I want to develop an app that, when i receive or make a phone call , to be able to play some ambient sounds during the call. like trafic.. cinema .. etc..
i think it's interesting while for example you are in bed, and your boss calls you & anable the Traffic mp3 Lol.. this could be fun..
I believe the only way to do this it's with the WM6 SDK tools that give you some phone api tools.... i think!. any Ideas?

What level of experience do you have with this side of developing for the phone? Have you done much investigation into the nature of the Windows Mobile modem and com port?
V
BUMP, it is very interesting idea.
In Japan some downtown hotels offer channels on the TV you can play to make all sorts of 'background' noise. This plays a key role in business men maintaining their loyalty to these hotels that offer hourly rates. I too would be extremely interested in hearing about an application like this.
i like very much this idea. i was searching this application two months ago but i didn't find it
I, in fact, have a similar app for my Nokia 6680, and it's very useful when you want an excuse for being late
background sounds during calls
any progress here on app development?

hello there
yes, I'm sure its great
and I hope if its available currently.
the idea is developing API or at least a tool which let the pocket pc phone devices communicate and transfer data between each other.
For example, you have XDA and your away friend have XDA, you just call him and make a connection between your devices, now you can send him files, chat with him, play multiplayer game with him, all that over the gsm network
it seems hard to do, but I'm sure its not impossible.
In fact, it has been done for Sybmian OS , I have taken the idea from it
So please developers, develop API that make transfer data between two ppc phone easy.
if you did that, I'm going to make a video conference program for free, which let XDA II users use the camera to make video talk
Please discuss the possiblity here
And take a look at http://comobi.webgate.bg
the Symbian OS program is CoMobi
Regards
well a gsm can send in data mode and in voice mode
i'm not sure if it can recieve in data mode though
of cause one could send the data as sound over the voice mode
but the bandwidth would kinda suck
Hi,
there is no need to develop such an API! Windows CE.NET comes with an API that let's you send and receive data: TAPI (Telephony API).
You can just start developing your application ;-)
Wow this is fantastic.
Do you know a good site has tutorials for Telephony API ?
I don't know why xda developers don't just use this TAPI, and make games like chess playable multiplayer via phone.
If this is happened, we could play here against each other by just giving phone numbers
Regards
TAPI documentation is available from the Microsoft website.
We all can't wait for your free "video conference program"...
What have you always wanted programming for the PDA?
I still haven't got a final year project idea :?

Outstanding. I'll put the idea to my project supervisor tomorrow
animated icons, or animated today screen displays
a real time vioce converter
like in scream the movie
1. I'm hoping for a multitrack recorder. There are hardware devices as low as $200 - why can't our $800 devices do something similar - make something that will record one track and playback another simultaneously, then you can play it all back at the same time. Perfect for recording vocals, a capellas, voiceovers, you name it.
2. New interfaces or replacement apps with nice interfaces. If you watch in the movies, you'll see a guy holding a PDA with some cool, large fonts, black screen, art deco designs, scrolling or text incrementing one character at a time as if being transmitted. It's fun, flashy, animated, and turns heads. It could also be practical. What do we have now? An email, contacts, and/or phone app that's pretty bland. Tahoma at 8 or 10 point. White background, boring interface. Heck, make it a Star Trek LCARS pad.
3. An online trivia game. I'm waiting for a game that will allow a bunch of players online to be the first to answer each question and compare scores. Do a search for "Buzztime Trivia," a game for BREW and J2ME playforms.
Activesync that works on my thinkpad !!
a replacement caller id program that looks up area codes via a locally stored database and displays the caller's city if the phone number is not stored in contacts. or strip blackjack for those of us that suck at poker.
ActiveSync with something other than Outlook! Personally, I'm a die-hard Firefox / Thunderbird bloke. I resent (but understand) having to run Outlook on my lovely lappie just so I can keep an easy backup of contacts etc.
Being able to sync with standards based email client / calendar apps would be a blessing!
Heck, you could always put some smutty easter eggs in
Something that allows you to record your phone calls? Is this possible?
I think you can already do that with the note recorder... but thats not a bad idea. Automated phone call recording with cataloguing.
I dont think it would make the greatest final year project, though.
How do you record a call with the note application?
As you say, it would be nice if the last 10 calls showed up in a list somewhere, along with time/number and full recording .
program to give the winning lottery numbers.
or used to be a program on the palm that would allow you to have an image on the screen as a lock instead of the number pad, and you selected the points on the image that you had to touch to unlock the phone.
A program to get the cell id that the handset is connected too and work out roughly on a map where you are. Like a poor mans GPS.

what about an answer phone?
How about you modify the cell track code to show your location on the handset, instead of sending to a signature. In fact i think i might use this idea for my final year project.
THIS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26359&highlight=
Did anyone have or can develop the software that can put music or sound recorded to play while you 're talking on the phone, like the Background Music or Call Cheating in Symbian (Nokia).
I'm searching for this type of program for long long time still can't find it.
Any comments ,pleaseeeee
My question is very similar...
I've searched for a registry setting for my HTC Touch to disable the muting effect of an in-process phone call to enable Media Player to play sound.
I found only one instance of a registry setting... it was to change HKCU-Control Panel-SoundCategories-Attenuation
In this key, I have
0...0x0(0)
1...0x1(1)
2...0x2(2)
I've found one post where it says to change 0...0x0(0) to 0...0x0(1)
When I do this, I get
0...0x1(1)
1...0x1(1)
2...0x2(2)
and I am still unable to play a wav file during a phone call.
If we can get past these registry issues, you can play any music you want to just using media player.
This is because it's not possible to send sounds/music to the caller.
Thats also the reason why the "Answering Machine" uses the speaker to shout your message out loud, instead of sending the message directly.
Gigabyte can do
I heard that one model in the past of Gigabyte can do background sound while calling. The program named "Wise Talk" but only in this model. wonder whether can extract out to share other ppc or not.

It is a hardware issue - not a software problem.
Most Windows Mobile devices have the phone sound hardwired and not accessible via software.
Only possibility might be via the headset channel
I think it is possible.
How come iSecretary can play your recording out loud while the caller is listening to your recording.
yes it plays it out LOUD!
So it's not played directly to the caller, it's played through the rear speaker instead.
it d0 w0rK
Phone the Pers0n then 0pen TCMP 0r any0tha Playa W0rks 0n HP ipaq 514
Defcomg says we can play music while on call with TCPMP.
I have Himalaya.
I'm not optimistic about it but I'll try.
This is not a hardware issue or anything, & hopefully somebody can tweak this setting.
did it work?
I was doing this with my N73 from ages..
but my htc diamond is helpless in doing this..
almost all symbian devices has this features..then why not windows phones??
are you talking about replacing the *beep beep*-sound when calling someone? if so, that's an operator feature wich have to be set as a service in the operator network for your number seperately.. and then people will hear it while calling you, not the other way around. not all operators provide that service though..
..if that's not what you meant, sorry, then I have no clue.
The jews have better devices to allow mobile users to have an offline answering machine locally. Im sure it's a jumper wire hack switched or not but there is no reason to make it so difficult. Boycott the ask a not see bankers
Hi there! I'm looking for a good anti theft software for my X1. I have already tried several ones. I'd like to know your opinion, what you are using and what you can recommend and WHY. Here's what I've tried: Ultimate Theft Alert, SmartProtect and WIMP. I have also tried Smartphone Tracker which was the best IMO but it's not antitheft, just tracking. What I absolutely need to have is the following:
-Notify on SIM change
-Determine GPS Coordinates
-Not easy removable (Or it should be possible ot make it hard to remove manually)
Nice to have:
-Send Google Maps link with the location
-Live tracking
-Several commandos to lock phone etc...
-Remote control over internet instead of SMS
-Get image of the cam that captures you during videocalls, so you can see the thief if he looks at the phone in that very moment
I hope you have some suggestions to make. You can also suggest the software I've already tried, but tell me WHY. So far I didn't get Ultimate Theft Alert to work at all. WIMP works well but offers too little and it's quite slow. SmartProtect has a crappy interface. The last 2 can be uninstalled through "Remove Programs" and are fully unfunctional afterwards - bull****.
Thank you for your help!
that sounds like some crazy FBI stuff
lol i would be more then happy to get my hands on that
but for phones i duno if theres any good enough trackers

SmartProtect is for free. You can find it on XDA. This is nothing special nor has it anything to do with FBI. It's basically about catching incoming messages, recognizing SIM change and determining GPS Position. Basic stuff. There are a lot of these apps out there. The developers are just to bad to produce something very good, or I haven't found it yet, which is more likely. That's why I opened this thread.
Smartphone tracker
Sprite Terminator works well
WIMP is what you need. I have it installed on mine in stealth mode.

The first thing I would do if I want to steal an WM phone un-notice is flash it w/ any rom via SD method then render all those software useless

Yeah for sure, but we're not talking about thiefs who actually know what a ROM/Hardreset/Flash is. You should consider that out of 100 people maybe 1 person knows how to mess with a well-hidden Antitheft Software. So if the software is working properly you should stand a 99% chance to get your moible back, and that's quite worth the 2 MB of space it consumes.
THanks to the others for your suggestions. I'll try RemoteTracker then. BuddyLee, what do you like about WIMP? I don't really see any advantages, what can you do with it apart from locating your phone?
Any other suggestions are ALWAYS welcome!
i think gpsgate would be god.
It uses imei and (wifi or gprs) . log on the gpsgate page and see where is phone. if its cooked in for YOurself remember to turn off the service after reboot to save battery.
so if the phone will be stolen they will insert ovn card and as soon phone gets wifi or gprs it will send location .
cos if sim card is changed YOu cant send sms to phone

SW that needs a portal to see your location sucks. If they're bankrupt, your phone is lost. Good anti-theft SW detects SIM change and notifies you - you will find this in my 1st post in necessary features. It means that the SW checks the SIM on boot and if it'a different, it sends an SMS to a predefined number. Obviously, the SMS will be sent over the thief's number and as the receiver you will see his number then. That's the main point of anti-theft-SW.

Well for me all i wanted it for was incase I lose my xperia i can find it back.
Its installed and all program links, remove programs from the list and other detection are gone (stealth mode only way you notice it is if you go into the windows directory when you hook it up to the computer ... meanwhile its some funny name that you would never think its that)
It texts you everytime the sim is changed to give your their new number + gps cordinates
Thats basically it for me with my needs for lojack
I'm using RemoteTracker. Best about it, that you can make it Hardreset safe if you cook it into your ROM.
I have Ultimate Theft Alert, it has few glitches, most notably the GPS not sending the longitude (therefore useless).
But it takes remote commands, can be cooked in rom, sends phones and sms's from the thief and stuff. Pretty powerful and at discount is very cheap.
If they fix the gps glitch (which they said are working on), it'll be perfect.

Don't get it , why not using a free open source program, when it works just fine and is very very smart? there you can make changes if you need, can or have money to make some one do it for you!
I see your suggestions vary. I have installed Sprite Terminator meanwhile and so far it seems to be the best one among all that were mentioned - if it works the way it should. I have been abroad, so I didn't want to test the features because I don't have unlimited money cheat enabled in my life But I will test it tomorrow. UI and features look great though, uninstallation is password-protected and configuration is simple and effective. I will post my experiences as soon as I've tested it regarding GPS performance and command processing.
why not try smart phone tracker?
it does fine...and its free too
I've tried the GPS of Sprite Terminator now and I'm very pleased but there is one disadvantage, the link provided in the message uses a Website of the manufacturer to display the location (using Google Maps). Direct link to Google Maps would be far better... But apart from that, it's just perfect!
Hi, I am new to android dev, but know java and other languages fairly well from before.
I have a simple question: is it possible to capture the audio from not only the mic or voice calls as defined in MediaRecorder.AudioSource, but instead from another app?

Like what kind of sounds. You could unpack the app and look for the audio files.
Suppose I want to build an application that broadcasts my telephone conversations on the net in real time. The infrastructure of such an app seems like a fairly straight-forward thing: use MediaRecorder to record the voice, throw it onto the net (ok, this is the opposite of simple, but you get the idea).
Now, suppose I'd like to broadcast the sound from an mp3 application instead. As I'd like to do it in real time, looking for it on disk is not the solution.
