Hey guys,
I was wondering if there is a program or something that will automatically disconnect the 3g/gprs connection after a set time or once it has finished using the connection or something like that.
Any advice would be great.
Cheers
CommMgrPro and Bandwitch
try this:
http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_wm5pe_en.htm
It's working for me under WM6 (Black Majik) - you can set the disconnect after 1min idle.
http://www.modaco.com/New-FREE-Utility-t246171.html
great app to disable gprs works for me under black shadow

I'd gve Bandswitch a go. It's discussed in detail on this very site here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844&highlight=bandswitch. It does exactly what youi want and more!
Regards
...
you can edit the registry key ...
HKey_Local_Machine/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/CacheTime
Change from 600 to 60
it will disconnect after connection is idle for 60 seconds ...
hmm bandswitch did work but screwed up my connection lol I couldn't connect to anything afterwards...
Ah well now I have to try and fix those back up again lol
Cheers

There's also another key needed to be set. Otherwise, my x01ht still has always on 3G data connection.
HKey_Local_Machine/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/SuspendResume
Change from ~GPRS! - Always on
to GPRS_bye_if_device_off - switch off after timeout
see the following thread for other detail.

I've searched all over this site, and I'm not finding an answer that's helping.
From some responses I've read in multiple threads about auto disconnect of 3g, the suspendresume key is no longer an issue in WM5 or higher.
I hope that's correct, because I'm NOT seeing ~GPRS! in that registry key, only the following (using Total Commander)
7e 00 47 00 50 00 52 00 53 00 21 00 00 00 00 00
I've changed the value of HKey_Local_Machine/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/CacheTime from 600 to 10, but it doesn't shut off.
IS there a way to do this in a registry hack, so I don't have add yet another tweaking program, like Schap's, to the phone?
Okay, so I took a risk, and deleted the original suspendresume key, created a new one and made the value a string GPRS_bye_if_device_off
It works.
I feel dumb.

yep 2 ways - first is to install the device without the O2 crap software (in corporate mode) - you will need the code 0506 to get this to work.
The other is it change the following in the registery:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell Binary TBOpt="13 00 00 00"
Hi Guys,
for everyone who wants to set GPRS auto disconnect timeout without using 3rd parties' software...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
SuspendResume = GPRS_bye_if_device_off
CacheTime = xxx (where xxx are seconds before auto disconnect, for me the best value is 60)
Bye.
Marco, this is a very useful tip. But would you tell me where i can put the command lines??
Thx
Maggie
marco, i have found the hkey_local_machine. Thx.
However, I cannot find the directory ConnMgr\Planner\Settings under \Comm
Please help.
I am using 2003SE, O2
Thx

Sorry for not prompt reply... :S however i don't know how gprs management works under 2003SE...
Sorry...
Did you try to look for SuspendResume value anywhere in the registry?
ta-da!
great tip! i've been looking for this for a while.
so i decided i'll create a cab file, to use with my extended rom!
i've created two files: for 1 minute disconnect, and 5 minute disconnect.
here you go.
thanks shlomki for ur worked
excellent... thanks
This works fine for me !!
Very Happy now!!
I'm using WM6 (official one)
It works for me on WM6 too.
However, I am trying to integrate this to my own cooked ExtROM. I am new at the cooking process. So, I need someone's help to get this done.
Here is part of my oem.xml...
========================================================
<characteristic type="Registry">
<characteristic type="HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings">
<parm name="SuspendResume" value="GPRS_bye_if_device_off" datatype="????"/>
<parm name="CacheTime" value="60" datatype="integer"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
========================================================
This is what I have so far. However, because REG_MULTI_SZ is one of the less used key type. I am having problem figure out what to put as the "datatype".
Can someone please help me on filling in the "????" part?
Thanks.
Cab file changes the registry but device still does not disconnect
Any suggestions? It is 60 seconds and not 60 minutes - right?
I have installed the cab file and the registry has changed, however the GPRS still does not turn off - any suggestions?

shlomki,
what can i say? I have been looking for such an approach since I have got my new Touch Cruise (2 weeks now) and finally I found your cabs...many, many thanks!
keep up with the good work!!!!
Great! TIP! HTC have these feature but I flash with cookrom..
thanks a lot
Nice. Does this also work with 3G connections? Specifically UMTS...
Great! It works on the lg ks20 for the 3G connections.
this doesnt work, any ideas? Registry has changed to:
CacheTime 0X3C (60)
CoeffBandwidth 0x10000 (65536)
CoeffCost 0x10000 (65536)
CoeffLatency 0x10000 (65536)
RetryCount 0x1 (1)
SuspendResume GPRS_bye_if_device_off
VPNCacheTime 0X3C (60)
Thanks
I was wondering... after changing this registry entry (the CacheTime one) what is the orginal value for this incase you ever wanted you ever wanted to change it back to default? I would have looked myself but I ran the .cab file before thinking to check the registry and see what it was... Thanks in advance!
I wanna say that it is set to "0" but I just wanted someone to confirm this for me before I tried to write a .cab file to get it back to default settings.
Warning!
These cabs work for "normal" sw running in Win Mobile, but it stops Java apps running under jebed.exe to connect and get data. A connection is established, but it is immediately closed down, re-opened - closed done, re-opened - closed down and it goes on like this. Had to uninstall.
does anyone have clear_notify.exe or equiv that will run on hermes? the version i run, when deleting duplicates says processing 67 of 66 and never completes. i'm hoping this will restore my alarm notifications but i'm not holding my breath

Hi all, on my previous P3600 I was used to use a small application that was able to disconnect GPRS/data connection after a few (settable) minutes of inactitvity (gprs autodisconnect from Ervius). Unluckly this program doesn't work on my new Diamond. Is there any working application or tweaking for Diamond?
Thanks in advance,
Ciao, Andrea
I would also like to second this request. It's useful for those times when we are interrupted and forget to disconnect our data connection.
Advanced Config and DiamondTweak does it.

Andrea,
Did you try phoneweaver from SBSH ?
It is a profile manager where you can set up (inside the profile) to change nothing except connect and disconnect data connections.
Every profile can be activated on a time basis (e.g. every day @ 7.00) , on a event basis (e.g every time you run Activesync) and manually with a predefined duration (e.g 1 hour)
Moreover it does many other things (it is a realy complete profile manager) ... and works great on my Diamond.

Hi Dave, I just downloaded and installed phoneweaver trial version, for my needing is too much, I spent a few minutes to study various options, but I wasn't able to find the specific option I'm looking for (disconnect after x inactivity minutes)
Thank for your suggestion.

I found that using Advanced Config it disconnects after x minutes (mines set to 1) but it disconnects faster exiting opera but doesn't disconnect at all after checking hotmail.

Hi, I need to disconnect the GPRS after a minute and I have installed this cab file on my device. I have checked in the registries and the values are the correct (SuspendResume = GPRS_bye_if_device_off and CacheTime = 60 ), but my device still stay connected one minute after I have stoped to transfer data. Could anyone told me why this trick does not work on my device. It is HTC Touch with Windows Mobile 6 ?
2. Miroslav Georgiev - September 2, 2008
I forgot to ask something… the value of the registry is “GPRS_bye_if_device_off” is this means that the device should disconnects only if I turn off the device from power button ?

Seems not work, perhaps they are the same reg value of advanced config.
Download NoData
NoData disables your data connections, it doesn't disconnect automatically after a set period.

Thank you for the link, i investigated a bit and discovered that in my registry is already set as per your suggestion, also I discovered that if the phone is NOT in sleep mode, so the display is ON, the auto disconnection works fine, but if the display is OFF the auto disconnection doesn't work at all, so, I think, seems something related to the sleep mode.
Could someone do the same test?
Thanks, Andrea

That's the location in the registry. You need software to get into the registry like Resco or Total Commander (I think). Just search for "Registry editor for windows mobile".
ya, i got total commader now what?
HKLM stands for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" or however it's denoted in the registry. I think this is all the person is looking for. now things should be clearer. Other acronyms stand for the other sections.

Absolutely correct. Use caution being a noob. Changes can seriously impact your usability of your device. If you're not careful, you could have a $1,000 paper weight. This board has a lot of talent, and a lot of people that are willing to offer a helping hand (even to the noobs). Ask before you do.
Registry changes don't come with backups!!!
Actually, your wrong. Messing with teh registry will NEVER brick your device, only force you to perform a hard reset

In Total Commander go to the root, the highest level. There you'll see a \\Plugins 'folder' with some Total Commander plugins. One of them is the registry plugin, which enables you to read and edit the registry, like the HKLM keys and values. Good luck!
Thank you
Thank you so much Mandragore, you have know idea how much you have helped me... My all your wants and dreams come true!

i'm having the same problem answering calls. i've downloaded total commander v2.0 so i could try and correct the registy issue as discribed above. when i go in to edit the registy file i get something that looks like this;
47 00 50 00 52 00 53 00
5F 00 62 00 79 00 65 00
5F 00 69 00 66 00 5F 00

63 00 65 00 5F 00 6F 00
66 00 66 00 00 00 00 00
i have no clue what i'm looking at there to be totally honest. i have no idea how to change registry and have never done anything like this before. i just want to be able to answer my calls! i see no place in that bit of code where i should change anything to #777. can someone please for god's sake help me?!?!
