After starting a GPRS session with Iexplorer or Messaging I supposed the session should be closed automatically after exiting Iexplorer or Messaging but if I go to the Comm Manager I can see the Data Link is still active (green).
Is that correct?
Thanks in advance
Yes, that's normal.

Hi all,
I have a time contract with my provider. It is based upon usage of 15 minutes time-slots of connection. However, if I open Outlook to check for new messages, the program automatically disconnets the UMTS session upon receiveng incoming mails. This means that if it takes , say, 40 seconds, I loose the whole time slots left. If I want to reply to a message, I have to reconnect opening a new session and wasting a second time lot.
Is there any setting or hack to the registry that can be made to fix this issue? I would like to manually disconnets when I am finished. And since I have a time contract, not a volume-based contract, I can't afford a GPRS/UMTS always on hack.
Thank you
alex
Set your mailbox to be on internet settings, not work settings. Both settings cannot coexist, and you will be disconnected as soon as outlook request the work connection.
work/internet connection
Thank you, but...HOW?
go in your mailbox, select menu - tools - options
Click on your mail account then next, next, next, next then options.
In connction, choose Internet then next, next and finish . Close the window
You are set.

I did it. Thank you. Problem is:
if I manually connect to GPRS/UMTS (I have to go to the connection settings, look up the profile and tap and hold on it to open the menu. QUite tricky!) and then open the mail client everything works fine. It connects, check, receives and sends, disconnects BUT ACTUALLY doesn't. OK.
If I open the client and let it automatically connect by tapping the send/receive option, it checks, etc, AND ACTUALLY disconnects from the UMTS.
It's kind of weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can it be possible not to have an option in the settings????
Please help me.
thank you all!
Hi Folks,
Hoping someone can answer these?
On the connection manager window on the new imate rom I have a couple of icons which appear to do nothing. The first one is on the bottom left under the phone icon and looks like a pda with left & right arrows. It is greyed out and i'm wondering what it's for?
The second is the pushmail icon at the very bottom. This is also greyed out. Under settings the only options I have are bluetooth or wifi settings - is this normal?
Though not a user of pushmail, how do you set it up? When I add an email account i only get options for pop or imap. Is pushmail setup something i only get when i add a new server source?
Thanks
"looks like a pda with left & right arrows"
is data on or off, ie gprs is connected or not,
push mail you need to add a server source, an exchange server,
4smartphone.net has a 14 day trial you can mess with. just remember you dont need to do the sms address bit when setting up.

Thanks for the info. I figured that might be the case with pushmail.
Regarding the gprs icon - i can only use it to turn off gprs. If gprs is off the icon is greyed out. Any ideas? It's not a huge issue because i use gprs monitor to turn on/off gprs from the today screen anyway...
rather than try and connect, i just directly use the app and gprs will connect itself as and when its required.
intresting point about not being able to turn it on from that icon tho, the app isnt really that clear when it comes to whats just an icon and whats a button, the active sync icon is the same.

As do I generally... Interesting comment about the activesync icon. Makes you wonder why they call it connection manager if it manages but a few things...

Do you close the browser with the X in the top right or do you use EXIT from the menu?
Check this post!
This happens randomly while checking mails. After a manual send/receive I see in the Comm Manager that the Data Connection is up. When I use IE and closing with the X the connection goes down. I didn't have this problem with the 6.1 stock rom.
Bye
Alex
This seems a dumb question, but cant find the answer...
I go on the internet for a few mins, cose down the internet, then (discovered this by accident) if i cick on the top task bar (notification) it says i am connected to orange internet for xx time (and increasing) why doesnt the internet connection stop when i shut down the application....????
thanks
Once your device connects to GPRS/3G, it stays connected, that's normal. If you want to disconnect manually just go to the settings tab in TouchFlo, go to Communications and toggle the 'Data Connection' slider to 'Off'.

How to stop Facebook app to automatically open a 3G connection even when the WiFi connection is also ON?
Thanks in advance.
Anybody has a tweak or program to disable it or know how to modify the registry?

you don't need anything. just read the manual
You could use the application "Data Controller", i have it installed cause this annoyed me aswell.
Data controller allows you to shut down any non-wifi signal your phone is currently transmitting (like the data link & wap etc.)

Thank you for the hint, but searching for it I found a new 'version' updated to work with Manila Windows Phone, called Manila Dial-up Enabler/Disabler.
Now what I do need, it is to find a way to use facebook through wifi/wlan ..
Has anybody already discovered how to have facebook using only wifi or activesync connections?
I will Copy/Paste the steps since new users cant post links
Prevent your phone from using the data connection when you want to ensure that it will never connect to the Internet via GPRS/3G.
On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap Wireless controls.
1-Tap Menu > Connections and then tap Add a new modem connection.
2-Enter Offline as the name of the connection.
3-In the Select a modem list, select Cellular Line (GPRS), and then tap Next.
4-Enter Offline as the access point and then tap Next.
5-Tap Finish.
6-Tap Manage existing connections and then select Offline.
7-Press BACK and then tap Done.
Restoring the data connection:
1-On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap Wireless controls.
2-Tap Menu > Connections and then tap Manage existing connections.
3-Tap the name of your mobile operator's data connection.
4-Press BACK and then tap Done.
Hope this will help
