Hi everyone. Hope you can help.
Set-up :
HTC Monet (Lovster 700TV)
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) 6.1
Issue :
I am trying to connect my phone to the internet when docked (connected via the USB cable) in order to download RSS feeds and surf the internet to install programs like Opera Mini.
When trying to open a page in Internet Explorer, I get the error message : The page you are looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x80072f78
Things that work : Syncing works OK.
GMobileSync - Works OK over USB connection (Sync Calendar with Google Calendar)
Fizz Traveller - Works OK over USB connection
Things I've tried : - Googling for error 0x80072f78 comes up with some fixes to an ActiveSync 4.2 problem which has something to do with Internet Pass-through and requires changing a registry entry. I've tried this but to no effect - see here
- I've opened ports on my firewall as described here
Any ideas?
Looks like I've answered my own question after playing around for a while.
In Windows Media Device Center 6.1
When phone is connected
Go to Mobile Device Settings -> Connection Settings
This computer is connected to : Automatic (or The Internet)
In Pocket Internet Explorer
Go to Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Connections
Tick : Automatically detect settings
Select Network : The Internet
In Phone Settings
Go to Start -> Settings -> 6 Connections
Menu -> Advanced
Internet Connection -> Automatic (or Passthrough Connection) - was set to Virgin GPRS
Its pretty handy to be able to do this, as within range of your PC (via Bluetooth) or connected via USB, you can :
1 - surf the web - check out opera.mini.com/beta
2 - Get google maps of your current location (with a Bluetooth GPS) on google mobile maps google.com/gmm
3 - Download RSS or newsfeeds (program like NewsCopier)

Good morning
Can someone please tell me how to synchronise XDA Exec via bluetooth using Activesync 4.1. I do not have Win XP SP2 installed and do not want to install it (If I can help it!!!!!!). I have spent sometime trying to work it out but have not had any luck.
A detailed post will be very much appreciated.[/b]
I take it no one knows or no one syncs their Exec via bluetooth!!!!!! Anyway, if I have worked it out, if someone would like to know please do not hesitate to ask.
Synchronising via bluetooth is a breeze, its beautiful. Cuz when u sync via cable your machine starts charging your device too and if I am not mistaken, keep on charging and taking it off witout full charge your battery gets damaged. Please correct me if I am wrong.
But when u sync via bluetooth u dont have to worry about the battery getting damaged and dont have to worry about those messy cable(s).
Setup Instructions
Step 1:
- Go to BT Settings on PC and enable "New Incoming Connection"
- On my PC it opens up "COM3"
Step 2:
- Open up Activesync in PC
- Go "File" -> "Connection Settings"
- Enable "Allow connection settings to one of the following:"
- Select same COM port as enabled in Step 1
Step 3:
- ON PPC, go "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Connections" -> "Bluetooth" -> "Devices"
- Select "New Partnership"
- Your PPC will start scanning for new devices...
Step 4
- On your PC a window will pop up asking you to input a PIN
- I find I have to click the BT icon in my PC taskbar to make the window appear, but that's just me
- Choose any 4-digit combination
Step 5
- On your PPC, you will then get a request to enter the PIN you used for the PC
- Once entered, the "Partnership Settings" window opens on your PPC
- It displays "Activesync" selected
- Choose "Save" (bottom right) and you're done!
To initiate a BT Activesync:
- On PPC, go to "Activesync" -> "Menu" -> "Connect via Bluetooth"
BT works at about 1Mb/sec, as opposed to USB at 11Mb/sec, so you lose on speed, but I haven't really noticed much difference, myself.
Also, I don't have BT Activesync set up at the mo, and haven't set it up in a while, so may have missed a thing or two - but with this guide and a little common sense (and Google) you should be right.
Many thanks for all your help. I managed it few days back. It was near enough the same procedure.
Anyway thanx for all your help.
Currently I am working on VPN and Terminal Service Client. I can do everything inside my local area network, but when I am using WiFi hotspot, Dial Up and GPRS I cannot connect to my work network. There is allot about it in this forum but very little seems to work.
Callyou.
nice one
Good, clear instructions. For some reason I couldn't get the activesync service available on the BT connection, but followed the above and it appeared.
Many thanks. This has solved my USB connection issue after a reflash...

I'd love to be able to sync via bluetooth, but activesync doesn't appear as an option. Only Hands free and dial up networking.
Have i missed something? Why is this such a complicated thing to achieve? It's ridiculous!!!
Thanks, Ash
I have different steps done but it's quite stable and high repeatability.
1: PC site, enable bluetooth and check "discoverable".
2: PPC site, open ActiveSync and click "Connect via bluetooth", if it's the first time to establish the connection, PPC will ask "there is no available Activesync port defined, would you like to define..." something like that.
3: Choose "Yes" of course, the the common bluetooth setting "partner" tab will appear, click "new devices".
4: Once found the PC, PC site will show the message to complete the pairing process.
5: Once paired, PC site will have another message showing that PPC is goting to connect through the Activesync port, then click on the pop-up message at the right-bottom corner, then choose "always allow the connection" in the newer pop-up menu.
6: Wait for PPC site to finish(taking quite long time like freeze), then there are few ports available, then check the "ActiveSyne" and complete the setup. If there is only "Serial" available instead of "ActiveSync", click "Refresh" button and repeat the step 5~6.
BTW. My PC is WinXP Professional SP2, unbranded BT sticker with Widcomm 1.4.2 Driver. PPC is Orange UK 1.30.90 WWE Version.
is this procedure the same with sharing the pc's internet connection via bluetooth to the xda exec?

I had summiter's rom on and for some odd reason my sync died on two toshiba laptops. One is as a guest the other for outlook and all. So I did a new ROM install of the new cingular ROM and still nothing. It goes throught the motions when installing 4.1 (even tried 4.2). It bypasses the setup screen says connected under guest and then a box comes up and say it cannot be completed, reconnect your device. I have read Chris De Herrera recommendations and have installed all ports and activesync managers AND TURNED ON ALL SERVICES.Connected to a usb port. I have been using PPC's for years and never had a problem like this.
PLEASE HELP ME I'M PATHETIC!
Have you tried disabling your firewalls and antiviral? - thats what worked for me = it was one of the firewalls.
I have a similar problem that I've narrowed down to Activesync not playing well with an integrity client.
I have the Cisco VPN client which works with an integrity client to check that my laptop is up-to-date with antivirus definitions etc. Uninstalling the integrity client allows Activesync to synchronise, but reinstall it and Activesync just stays in the 'connecting' phase.
Since I have to work quite a lot from out of the office, I need the VPN client working, so I just synchronise the Wizard via IR, which is a bit of a pain, but it gets the job done in the end. I hope in the future there's a fix for this.
I've had probs with Activesync. Try this, go into the connections tab in Windows and look for a new "local Area Connection" if you hover over them they will say which network card they belong to. The one you want is Windows Mobile Device.
Go into it, then properties. Once in properlies, make sure there is a tick in the TCP/IP box.
Then go into properties again and make sure Obtain IP Address and Obtain DNS Server automatically are both checked. The click OK, and OK again to come out of it.
With your device unplugged, go to the task manager and clear all running progs. Then in activesync on your laptop clear all the activesync devices with FILE > Delete partnership.
Then try connecting.
Hope This Helps
I've had the same problems with a O2 XDA Mini S and active sync 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2! I think I have found what was causing mine to fail - I had already disabled firewalls, AV etc with no sucess.
Check the network settings to ensure that the Windows Mobile Device adapter is set to obtain an address automatically.
THEN - you need to ensure that the DHCP service is running on your PC - My machine has a static IP on its LAN interface so the service was not running. Go to Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Services.
Look for the DHCP service - if it is set to Manual then right click > Properties and set Startup Type to Automatic.
Then right click on the service again and click on start - if your device is plugged in then you should hear it connect....
Hope this helps,
Andy.
Hiho,
Somehow I dont manage to get into the internet thought my USB Cable and the Computers Inet Connection, allthought I have set the option in Active Sync (4.5 Beta)...
Do I have to do additional things?
Using Jesters 3.3 AKU ROM...
Greets
Oliver
Well my friend to tell the truth,I tried doing that for 2 days (since I bought my little machine) and still can't do it...When my brother had Qtek 7070 I just pluged in and Internet worked...But now...well,troubles...PLEASE GOOD PEOPLE IF SOMEONE CAN HELP US WE WOULD BE GREATFULL...Greetings!
I am not sure if there is something specific for the 3.3 ROM (or any other custom ROM) but here is what you normally do:
First, make sure that in Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Network selection->Programs that connect to the internet use...
you select 'My ISP'.
Then in PC side Activesync->Connection settings (right click the tray icon) select 'This computer connects to' -> 'The internet'.
Now make sure all firewalls are off or check MS site on how to allow ActiveSync for your firewall (this includes XP built in and 3rd party firewalls).
Hope this helps.
Sadly no success....
Prob with Internet connection
Hi everbody,
i've got a problem with my xda neo too. There is no way to use the pocket internet explorer or the wheater plugin from www.pocketnavigation.de, but icq works. There is no possibility to use the net via ActiveSync (4.5) or via W-LAN. But on both connections i could ping the device.
It seems that there's a problem with the device, but i don't know, where i should look to solve the problem.
Please Help!!!!
Karsten
I had the same problem with my O2 XDA Neo. It manifested as "error report NoXXXXXX" when I try to open the page in PIE.
Recently I find an Registry Add that solved my problem. Download to desktop and add it in PC registry (not PPC)
Hope that will help!
I've tried to get updates by being Connected to activesync and Via GPRS and it never downloads. What Could I be missing?

Activating WiFi -> launching QuickGPS -> Download...
I'm having the same problem and I am connected either by Wifi, Active Sync (WMDC6.1) or GPRS and still get the message "Connection Failed, Please try again later". I know ive got a web connection, cos i can access the web! I've raised call wiv HTC & will post back any reply I get from them but if anyone has any bright ideas. I know there is a manual workaround but would rather get to root cause.
If you're in WM5 you have to deactivate the advanced connexion functionnality (maybe not the exact name, I have a french rom). How to do it: go in settings --> tab "connexions" --> usb to PC --> deactivate the option shown
It worked for me, I couldn't access the net via activesync, now I can.
If WM6 I don't know, maybe the same.
Is it a matter of proxy settings ?
I have the same problem in my office. The web surf works but neither the weather update nor the QuickGPS update. Whereas at home everything is fine. The proxy settings made by the administrator filter the acces to the update.
quite some time ago i somewhere found this to help (seems to be win xp prob):
lsp value to be added to xp registry!
Hi all,
My device is IPAQ data messenger with WM 6.1, I tried to connect it to PC with windows 7 and latest WMDC, it connects and sync successfully.
Then I tried the following:
- Remote Desktop ( connecting over internet ) It works.
- Kinoma freeplay software, it connects to the internet and can download videos & pictures.
- Weather forecast it works.
but when I try to brows the internet using IE it gives me error message "Cannot connect with current connection settings, To change your connection settings tap settings"
I installed Opera 10 and same problem, could any one help me with this..
Thanks ....
Any help please...
As we dedicate here only to HTC devices, if yours is not listed here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
Probably is not build by HTC.
Good luck,
If you can sync you absolutely should be able to connect to the Internet. I have an older Ipaq 2415 with WM 6.5, but I don't have Windows 7...
Making that Device to PC connection is the most troublesome part and you did that, now you just need to search the "connections setting" issue. Sorry I can't be of more help, but since this IS for mainly HTC devices you may not get any more help
Ipaq Web browsing problem
Hi all,
Thanks for your replay, is it different between mobiles?? because I think it is related to the OS!!!!!
Any way, I did the following:
Settings-->Connections-->Connections-->Advance-->Exceptions
and I added the following string: */*, it works now but it did not worked with wireless connection, I don't know why
