Hello!
I am interesting to be able to send FAX from my cell phone (HTC 8525). I want my cell phone to work as a FAX machine. I do not want to send FAX through Internet. Is it possible? What kind of software do I need?
Is it possible to use cell phone as a FAX? In here I mean if it is possible to connect laptop to phone and use some kind of software on laptop to send a fax?
Thank you!
P.S. I can not find if the phone supports the fax functionality...
Back in the day when cell phones really started to become popular, nearly all of them had some kind of "fax mode." I am nearly 100% sure this is still possible with modern cell phones, but how to do it is beyond me, I'm afraid.
Not that I would expect them to really have any idea, but have you tried getting in touch with Cingular about your question?
No... I prefer do not speak with xustomer support without good reason. They always want to add some kind of service to my plan!
fax from 8525
Have you found a way todo this yet?? I twould be a great feature.

Hy, I'm a new owner of a nice MdaPro/Jasjar, and for me is very important to send a fax to my customer or receiving a fax. It is possible with my young favourite.
Would you have a net connection?

Dear .
U hv to use KSE True Fax 2.09(d/l from FTP) and your SIM shd have the Data/Fax service activated from yr service provider...
Hi,
can you tell me how you did it. The TrueFax is ver. 2.09 is not recognizing the modem.
If you succeeded you let it running, plz. describe the procedure in detail.
thanx.
KSE's website explicitly stated that it doesn't support HTC Universal
HTC-Universal device without fax software - The already available "Universal" devices manufactured by HTC are not equipped with a fax software. That means, when you purchase one of these Pocket PC Phones, such as MDA Pro, XDA expert, VPA 4, etc. no version of our software KSE Truefax is included. Furthermore no version of our software is available for these devices. Previous versions of Truefax are not compatible with this device type. If you need a fax software please contact your respective net provider.

I haven't tried this, but maybe you can give it a go:
MFaxCE -- Don't know if it's WM5 compatible.
http://www.samtechnc.com/eng/introduction/mfax_intro.htm
Anyway I can use Winfax Pro 10 installed on my Windows XP computer to use the Jasjar as a fax modem so that I can fax from my pc connected to the Jasjar via bluetooth. I know I can do this with my Nokia 6600. I tried the same with the Jasjar but it appears that the Winfax Pro does not recognize the Jasjar as a fax modem. Maybe I am doing something wrong or maybe simply that the Jasjar modem is not fax compatible. Any view would be appreciated.
Kind Regards
I remember someone in the BA section posting a working KSE cab file for the BA with WM5.
Just don't have time to find it right now.
I have a big dilema...will it ever be possible to use fax on my qtek 9000? I have all the required fax services on my SIM and software on my phone (TrueFax 2.09), but it still not working to send or receive fax from my device...
And about the fax modem...is this an aditional software, or what because my phone is not detecting any fax modem?
We are the developer of MFaxCE
We are the developer of MFaxCE. Actually, we have already ported our MFaxCE to WM5.0 successfully, but we found that HTC have changed a lot or haven't open the port for fax on WM5.0 device, we still fail to send/receive fax on WM5.0 right now.
However we are working with some manufacturer who is willing to modify their driver to make our MFaxCE capable of fax on their WM5.0 device. And we are also looking forward that HTC can do some modification or disclose some information to us, so that we can make MFaxCE compatiable with all the HTC WM5 device.
We will keep you posted about any news in the future!
@samtech
Sounds great, i really miss Faxing on the Universal.
However, I seriuosly doubt that HTC vill release any info on the internal's of their device. They will more likely give you a datasheet on an upcoming device, and perhaps give you some limited access.
It's very clear that the whole WmMobile business market is centeret on one thing, pushing new devices out the door.
Rom Updates that actually makes our devices work the way they are marketed, are never released......just forget it!
And why should they, we are stupid enoughf to buy the new devices, hoping that it will solve our problems.
Luckily we have some brilliant guys working on the linux Port for the BA, Universal and other devices ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35972 )
Doo feel free to join or provide any info you might posses to the community, the more the merrier
On the negative side, it dossent excatly put food on the table, but hopefully it will help us by providing the tools we need to help us do other things that will, without having to constantly monitoring this board to get our devices working within resanoble boundries.

AFAIK Universal does not support V2.0, which will
make it a PITA to support. I don't know if it a hardware
limitation or a phone radio ROM (mis)feature.
Edit:
sorry, it was mgetty+sendfax that does not support v1,
but hylafax does.

HELP! Dash or MDA? Pocket Office on Dash? (for editing capabilities) Hack or Download (or Doea the Hermes also work with T-Mobile???)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've talked to everyone when considering choosing between the MDA and the newer Dash?
Is it possible to get a free version of Pocket Office to put on the Dash so I can have the editing option for Microsoft Documents?
MDA or Dash? Which is more versitile, faster, and good for work & networking on the fly?
Does the MDA have WiFi like the Dash? for free wifi connections.
After too many T-Mobile reps, HTC reps, and other users...I'm exhausted with beating around the bush form the simple, and exact answers I'm looking for. You advice and expertise would truly be appreciated. Help! Thanks.
Ryan
Tough call, Ryan... both are great devices in their own rights. However, Dash is Smartphone platform and MDA is Pocket PC platform. Pocket PC is going to give you more functionality and customization. Smartphone is going to give you more convenience and smoother performance (assuming the ROM is stable and current).
Both MDA and Dash have Wi-Fi.
Based on your other questions and desires, I think Pocket PC platform is probably more what you're looking for.
Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback.
I have been leaning towards the MDA, but didn't want to take a step back in technology advantage, given that I'll have this phone for a while and I'll want to get the most from the device. OR Should I go with DASH in hope of getting an app to edit documents? Is there anytihng coming out soon, or where should i go to find out where to get it? Can I use either device with google's new word and excel editting, without being connected to a free wifi?
Are both devices able to use Skype?
The MDA glitches and complaints do worry me about dependability. Do you believe the MDA is stable, and is the HTC Hermes able to be used with T-Mobile?
The phone I have (Nokia 3660) just died (only shows Nokia when booting up, in a continuous loop). Therefore i have just lost 600 numbers which weren't sync to the new laptop i had ot buy because my old one was stolen 2 months ago. If you have any advice on retreaving these numbers let me know.
Also, do you recommend getting the MDA from T-Mobile for $250 or from eBay? or other cell phone sites you recommend for purchases?
Ryan
I am unsure of the Dash's abilities to edit documents. I believe that there are apps out there for the Smartphone platform that allow you to do it.
As far as Skype goes... minimum requirements to run Skype on a mobile device are 400mhz or higher processor and Wifi or 3G network. That pretty much leaves you with Hermes if you are wanting to go the route of the MDA line of devices. Yes the HTC Hermes can be used on T-Mobile.
The only advice I could offer for extracting your contacts from your old phone is to get it to an authorized Nokia repairman and have them get it out. If your phone can go into bootloader mode, you should be able to rescue the data.
I can't recommend one way or the other on where to buy your phone from other than saying that if you don't buy it from T-Mobile, check around on Ebay.
Savior Pete
Thanks again.
I'm glad your active on here today.
So are you saying the Dash is the only T-mobile provided phone that will work with Skype? I don't believe you can buy the Hermes from T-mobile (just the wizard) Unless you know otherwise.
I don't see a tremendous savings on eBay (maybe $50) which leads me to buy from T-mobile simply for the support and warrantees.
I will be checking back frequently. [email protected] if you like Thanks again.
No the Dash will NOT work with Skype, and neither will the MDA II aka Wizard. Sorry, I was thinking before that maybe you were in the UK where the MDA Vario II is available on T-Mobile... that is the Hermes. I think your only choice if you are definitely wanting to run Skype is to get a Hermes, probably off of E-bay. Just make sure you get it unlocked... most of them will be. Do searches for Tytn and Jasjam. The Jasjam will on average run you $100-200 more than the Tytn.
I have fax machines, it's all set up for use on a landline. I want to be able to fax through my cell line instead of my landline. I really want to cancel the landline.
I know how to tether via USB - EDGE, I'm thinking it's basically the same steps. Set up a dial up conn, but instead of putting in the tether number (*99#) put in the number that u are faxing to. And for incoming have the fax come in your cell phone then reverse the process (cell>pc>fax machine.)

Low Tech Solution?

You might build a converter to plug the fax line out into the headpiece jack of the cell for a low (medium?) tech solution... Even that would be a project, and it wouldn't automate the process...

After a year have pass, anything new on this?
fax machine plugged into the PC via USB, WM phone connected to PC, then fax it instead of using data with internet sharing, maybe a diff prog that does voice to dial out
if that dont work i guess i have to settle for scan it then send it to PC, then fax it with internet...what are some programs or services to send fax?
Please don't laugh but is it anyway possible to use the X1 as a old style fax modem then its connected to my laptop running vista business?
I can see that there is a 9600 baud modem inside the phone, but how do I make Vista recognize this ??
Xperia doesn't contain an duuuud du duuu modem???

If you go thru the posts, you'll find this:

Funny how a search on google turned up more than a search on our own damn forum...Search function sucks!
The SE Xperia X1 has a inbuild FAX Modem.
Sending a Fax with the X1 is from the Hardwareside possible.
I have searched the last week nearly two days
for a software that i can install on the X1
for fax handling.
The only programm that was prommissing was
"True Fax". True Fax make the Phone to a Fax macine.
It allow sending and receiving of Fax with
the Mobilephone.
This programm however is outdated and
works only for older HTC Phones.
I have solved my problem by replacing the need of a fax with the mail functionality of the phone.
You should have however have the possibility to connect
the X1 Modem with Vista over BT. Afterthis select as outgoing connection in Vista the new Modem. With a good Faxprogramm your Fax should be send by the SE X1.

I read your post and like the idea, so I tried to set up a remote connection to the phone, in Vista, but the wizard will not display the phone modem (assuming there is one). The remote connection utilty in Vista looks like it always did in Windows (I see it sometimes because it pops up when I launch my wifi modem's connection). If the modem is found, any fax program should find it.
I should think there is a way because it's not too long ago since the gsm operators were actively marketing their business packages with the big thing then - fax from the mobile. I know I can still get an extra number to the mobile phone, that will only handle fax calls.
If it cannot be done, you an always let Vista use X1s internet connection, then send the document with something like PamFax for Skype (works great and the pennies for sending can be deducted from the Skype account so there's no extra business of filling up credits).
-------------
Reclaim the fax! I don't call customer service or the government or the bank or whatever any longer - it's just holding lines and a lot of options that take you to an automated voice that says something stupid. If you send an email, you don't know if they'll answer. If they get a fax, for sure it WILL land on someones desk and they will treat it as a formal letter.
--------------
Actually in bigger companies, their fax machines are inside their COMPUTERS. So there is nothing landing on anyones desk
And probably smaller companies can't afford a 'real' fax machine and will just use their computers.... same result
I'm in Europe. We're different.
You can try install BT dialup networking profile and then connect phone from vista as COM port modem.
Can i set it up with my computer so that i can use my phone as a fax modem? No one really has regular modems in their computers anymore.
you need a program like rightfax installed on your computer. the phone is unnecessary unless you dont have an internet connection...
Looking for something free. My old sony dumbphone could connect to my computer as a fax modem so i could use it to send out. Cannot find an answer to do it with Android phones.

there you go dude. you dont need your phone for anything.
But to answer your question, no, the phone cannot be used as a traditional fax. There are no drivers to support dial up networking over a virtual com port like in the old days.
