i guess i need to return this for repair, now the problem more than that each time i turn on from sleep mode the contact flash in , then the menu. it seem that thebutton is locked up or something.
Try doing a hard reset before returning the unit..
I only tried doing ''Clear storage'' on system menu I don't know how to do the button trick.. done many time but always fail maybe the right button is still lock to press the reason why the hard rest goes to cancel.

Hi,
Since i bought my Universal as the xda exec ive had two problems.
1. The touch screen stopped working keyboard worked fine. This was solved after a rom upgrade.
2. The backlight button does nothing
Isbnt the backlight button suppose to turn backlight of? if so why doesnt mine?
dunno about q1 but as for q2, the backlight key only turns on the backlight whe n the screen times out. Astonishly useless by design! You can remap it to use it like any other hardware button tho (with a bit of registry tinkering). Search this forum for how to.
There are 2 type of backlight:
(1) the screen
(2) the keyboard
the backlight of the screen you can turn on and of via the on/off button at the left side with which you turn on/off the device. For turning on and off the backlight without turning on/off the device you must press and hold the button.
the backlight button at the front is only for the keyboard. But this only works, when you set in the settings, that it should not use the light sensor to regulate the light.
thanks guys, your help is very much appreciated.
I found this a bit strange.
On my Qtek 9000, the backlight button (on device side) does nothing (even if light sensor not used).
The one which does this, is the 'SYM' key on keyboard... :?:
Ok, now I try it out. I was wrong: the light button at the side does absolutely nothing
so for what is that? how can I put a function on it?
lol, this is totaly true, on my o2 exec i thought i try it by disabling the sensor and it didnt do nothing. Whats it for?
Maybe it will have a function in a newer rom?
Hi,
You can change the function of this useless backlight key. You can make it to launch any application you want. Just follow the instructions on the first post of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=34377&highlight=backlight
Enjoy!
Does anyone know how to put the Disconnect button back on GPRS? This button was available when I first got my O2 Mini but now gone with the ROM upgrade.
Can't you disconnect by keeping the red button pressed?
Try This it may help
Press and hold the Red button does the trick. Thanks.
VJVolubilis could be set up to provide a shortcut or hardware key to disconnect also. But there should be a registry hack - search the wiki or apply the above cab.

hello...
my on/off button is defect. so i cant switch it on. Only via reset
can i configure another button for reactivation from standby? because that does not work anymore too
thanks for help
not sure about hermes but my phone turn on at the press of any key unless i set it only to turn on by on button in buttons in settings
Go to the settings, then to system, then go to the keylock options in there and set it to not lock at any time.
Works with any key, but its not really a good idea to have that in your pocket.
I would say you should get the button repaired instead.
Thanks a lot guys...
does someone knows how i can switch off the phone? everytime i want to swithc it off i have to push the reset button or do a soft reset :/ i thin k a regular shutdown would be better...
i friggin have the same problem. My girl dropped my phone and the power button is messed up...
I press the camera button to turn on tho.. i cant turn off unless i let it sit and it does it itself.

Hi Guys,
I've come across a little bit of a problem...
The power button on the top of my iMate K-Jam is broken.
I've resorted to using a software alternative that turns off the screen and locks the device. But i can't get over not being able to turn it off via a button...
Would it be possible for some program to make the communication button on the top side left do what the power button used to??
Many Thanks,
Tim
