Hello-
After dropping my 8525 and cracking the screen, I was able to replace the screen.
I am afraid I also damaged something that may have to do with the internal antenna. After putting the unit back together everything works except that it will not hold a GSM or DATA connection.
It will establish a GSM/DATA connection for a few minutes, drop and then start searching again. Eventually, I get a "No Service" exclamation mark. I have tried setting to GSM only and no 3G, but I get the same issue.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

try changing the radio to 1.40 1.41 or 1.43 and see if that helps.. do u hear anything rattling in the phone? did u do the replacement urself or send it out?
Thanks! I will give that a shot and post the outcome. No unusual rattling.
JP
Well...thanks for the tip...unfortunately...same issue. Changed radio to 1.43. Connects for one second and then starts searching all over again.
When I looked at the internal antenna, it "seemed" to be "all together". Anyone know where to get the hermes service manual?
Thanks again! Still open to additional suggestions...
Cheers,
JP
One other interesting tid-bit. I can see the antenna signal strength go from 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 bars before it drops the connection. Don't know if that is relevant?

A bit of a guess this but. In the following two pictures you see the aerial first connected and then disconnected. Note the short brass rod that locates into a brass clip on the m/board. I am just wondering whether this is not making a good contact. If the aerial circuit adjusts signal strength in relation to the connected aerial it is conceivable that it sends a strong but reducing signal due to the aerial not be attached/good contact at that clip.

Hi Mike,
My antenna looks like the first picture. However, I can dismantle and double check the connection. I have become quite agile at taking this thing apart.
Thanks for the insight!

Hi,
I've got a serious problem with my Magician.
I used the antenna cable connector to get better reception yesterday when I had to drive a longer distance, but when I took out the connector it seems that the MDAc didn't switch back to internal antenna. I've got nearly no reception (~10% as usual). Driving back (without external antenna) I only have signal directly in front of a antenna tower. Normal phone use was not possible. Normally I have 1 -2 reception holes during the hole way.
What have I done to solve the problem:
1. Soft-Reset: nothing changed
2. Hardreset:
3. reinstallation of Radiostack 1.05.00 and Hardreset
nothing brought a difference.
Hope the external antenna didn't damaged my Magician phisycally.
Hope someone can help
P.S.: Is the german T-Mobile Radio stack 1.00.10 somewhere available, so that I can try it with this stack? But I'm pretty shure that the radio stack isn't the problem, because it worked perfect for more than 2 weeks.
did you get this to work ? i now have a similar problem - very low signal. the difference is that i never used an external antenna....
@Saege: you can try to remove the cover of the antena-plug on the back side to check out if everything flipped back where it should be. i don't think it has anything to do with the phone stack itself.
cheers, lutz
Hi,
I had also reception problems....
I have found the the internal antenna is a metal plate you can see when you take the upper back cover off. The metal plate has 2 lips that go to the mainboard (you can see them at the top). you have to take a look if the lips are pressed good against the mainboard.
To open the upper back cover put a very thin and pointy object into the holes marked by the red arrow's.
The second picture show the antenna connection to the mainboard, the lips have to be on the golden squares on the mainboard.
Cheers

That's a good digital camera you are using, what is it? I need a new one.
i think it's an HP Photosmart R707
Damn,
he is right... r707 from HP ... hehe
Cheers...
I have problem too with the signal.
If the XDAmini just came from a no-signal location, the signal comes back very slow. Sometimes you need to soft reset to get it back the soonest.
Please help.
Have been trying everything that has been said in this post about the non-reception on my magician.
In the last 2 days, I only had reception (1 bar) for like 2 minutes, and then nothing...
Is there anything else I can try or test or do to get it running?
Separate/replacement/external antenna to check if the gsm module is still ok and that it's an antenna-issue...?
any help is very welcome!
thanks
The Wifi of my HD2 is all of the sudden barely working. It only gets a signal if it's about an inch away from a router, so in practice it's not really working.
I tried several roms and radios, run task 29, but nothing has had any effect.
Do you have any ideas what has happened? Do you think it is hardware-related?
Have you checked in the WIFI settings, there is an option for best performance or best battery.
Yeah, it doesn't seem to change anything.
maybe uve bent the phone and the antennas/antennas solder pad disconnected
Interesting.. I have been pushing the sides of the (somewhat recently replaced) digitizer pretty hard in an attempt to make it fit perfectly, because the service-people apparently didn't do so. Could this have loosened or disconnected something?
Another possibility is of course that the service-people did something, but they claim that's not possible.
Anyone?
(yea, this is a bump of sorts)
WiFi signal extremely weak
I have the same problem with my HD2. I tried changing ROM and/or Radio but nothing happens. This is not my first HD2, i buy them and then sell them here in my country so it is probably a hardware issue. However this is the first HD2 i got that is apparently manufactured after June of this year, which I think is a new model.
Here is a comparison between the HD2 and a Pure, side by side in the same room. (The router is about 3 meters from the devices)

Any other one with a problem like this?
yeah, my HD2 has always got weak WiFi signals, while my laptop shows 4 bars, the HD2 only shows 2 bars. But back then, the WiFi is still usable.
but since last week, I kept getting disconnected from the WiFi router when i try to access the internet. No matter how many different ROMs and Radio i try, they are all the same.
I'm starting to wonder if HTC hardware fails after a certain period of usage... hmm...
Phone was prolly damaged during the repair process, take it back and have them replace it
I'm on my second X8 in two weeks, the first kept losing signal and dropping calls in places where my cheap work phone would show good signal. O2 my provider were very good and swapped it but the new one is exactly the same!
I've done a bit of net searching and found a few folk with similar issues on the X8 but not huge numbers. Anybody here have this problem? found a cure for it?
I think those magnetic things you put under the battery to improve signal are pure snake oil so won't go that route but without a solution I'm going to have to send back the X8 and go for another make. No point having a phone that can't make phone calls.
that is the weird problem..
it's diffence for me, my phone is better signal if compare with other's phone.
in my experience, have you used the battery/energy saver? it could impact the signal i think. more u reduce the signal/battery, more poor the signal u would received..
When I first got this phone, it was fine, reception wasn't a problem. But a month later, my reception is terrible and it's really hard to connect to the internet, I can only do it in certain places. Where as before I could do it anywhere.
I'm worried I might have damaged the 3G aerial when I dropped it that one time.

I have the same experince like 2 above. The signal is better than on my other phones
So the problem is unique, not common in all X8
It's not a battery issue, I keep the phone well topped up and it even happens when the phone is vehicle mounted on charge. I drive a lot and use the phone a lot, there's an area on one of the routes I take about a mile long where there is no signal at all, the X8 loses reception much sooner and gets it back much later than any other phone I've used (i.e. 2-3 mile area). This makes me think the antenna is not very good or is blocked somehow by the phone body.
It's a shame, I like the phone, I know it's cheap and I was happy to accept slow performance / lack of features but in every respect it works well, it's well built and looks good. I just can't trust it not to cut me off mid call.
Hi,
Nobody knows me here but I've been on the HTC TyTN II forums but recently changed to a HD2.
Some dude I know had the HD2 and after some water damage (Water indicator is still white though) the reception stopped working. I started messing around with the phone and accidentally cut the keyboard flex while opening (doesn't matter, ordered a new one) and started flashing a new radio, MagLDR and WP7 builds by opening the phone and touching the flex cable connector with a screwdriver to get the correct key (hard as f*&%). {<<mod edit - ahem}
Now, on Windows Mobile (Original ROM, when I first got it) the reception didn't work. There was no signal and it couldn't detect any networks. But the Wi-Fi worked great. Sitting downstairs while router is 2 floors up with some thick walls worked. It kept connected to the Wi-Fi network.
After flashing the newest radio (2.15... or something) & flashing MagLDR 1.13 & a couple of WP7 ROMs, when I turn on my Wi-Fi, it shows my home network like this picture:

}
but with just 1 "bar/dot" signal strength even though the router is like 1 meter from me.
When connecting to it, it's a bit slow and in my status bar it shows a FULL signal strength sign (the opposite of what it showed in my Wi-Fi list).
I'm not sure how WP7 works when using the signal strength icons which is why I mention it.
I'm using the "I love DFT (7392 ROOTED) [YukiXDA]" ROM.
I'm hoping someone could help me with it.
I think that the radio only affects the reception & not the Wi-Fi?
Thanks!!!

Nobody's got any ideas? Getting a new Kingston 8GB Class 10 MicroSD card soon. I hope it works.
from my point of view, its pretty stop im picking up wifi from a block down.
what do you mean with pretty stop?
Lol, solved. Sorry.
Seemed like I forgot to attach the Wi-Fi antenna onto the board.

Issiue:
My phone gets H/H+/3G mobile data so hardly.
Even if I inside a building it only gets "Edge" signal or non!
In a building with same phone and gsm op. others get 3G etc. but mine phone gets Edge.
I set APN, wipe cache, reboot etc.. Nothing changed.
PS: If I change WCDMA/GSM(auto) to Just WCDMA, I get H+,3G sometimes in a building but it turns to no service or no data at frequent intervals. Not stable to use..
Reads like you have damaged a component .

Which component you think?
I have seen reports where people used a cheap third-party USB replacement and the phone started to suffer charging, sync, and/or signal issues.
If the phone connects at 3g before the part change, install the old part and see what happens.

I don't have the old damaged part.
Otherwise phone connect the 3G but not everywhere. It doesn't connect in a building but connects out of the building or connects very normally at popular squares.
Is the signal worse with the new part? If it is, maybe buy another one and try? I got cheap one from Aliexpress and it worked very well for a Note 3 n900w8.

Signal is the same like first time no problem.
Simply it doesn't connect 3G or H/H+ in a building connect EDGE.
I guess the only way to know for sure would be to buy another replacement.
Anyone thinkin something else?
Thinking aerial .
