Hi, I am looking for a program that refreshes the GSM network automatically. I have a T-Mobile MDA III, but it has a problem: sometimes when I do not use the phone for a while (a day or so), I cannot be called, but when I call myself or refresh the GSM network, I can be called.
If someone could make a program (maybe something already exists?) that refreshes the GSM network each hour or so, that would be great.
or just upgrade to a newer radio rom and those problems are over...
That would be nice, but I'm already using the latest rom (02.98.90).
What do you mean by refresh? Going into flightmode and immediate return? There are already a lot of event driven software... most probably even one offers right that.
Yes, going to flightmode and back would probably be enough. The problem would be that I would have to reenter my pincode (or the program would have to do that too). Which program could do that (each hour or so)?
Hi everyone,
I ordered my Ozone the day it became available on VZW's site, and xda-dev has been the only place that I've been able to find any truly helpful info. This is my first smartphone, and the community here has been invaluable. Thank you all.
I have a couple of issues that I haven't been able to figure out yet. The one from the title - I use two apps; Pandora and WMtorrent, that time out - no matter what I've tried- when I start them and put the phone down. Especially frustrating in Pandora... I can only sing along with the first two minutes of any song now - very embarrassing at parties.
I am making an assumption about the source of the Pandora problem, I know it isn't supported on the Ozone. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
I've hunted around in the registry, but I haven't found anything to tweak connection settings yet. Any advice appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows how to set the phone to always use wifi when available, that would help too. I set Start> settings> connections >advanced to either automatic or wifi, and as soon as I get out of range it defaults to VZW as the preferred connection.
Lastly, the HTC ref name for my phone is 'Cedar'. Any difference worth noting? I'm looking forward to the cooked ROMs that are being developed for the Maple.
Thanks again for a great community.

When you into COMM Mgr to turn Wifi On, turn Data Connection off at the same time.
Reverse process when you turn Wifi Off.

I'm having an identical problem with Pandora except I find even if I'm surfing the web or making button presses within Pandora, the song still times out after about 2 minutes. That happens with each and very song but it will eventually switch to the next song if I let it sit. I'm on the Sprint HTC Snap.
With the HTC Dash 3G (T-Mobile version of the Snap) there is a couple registry edits you can do to keep the connection open.. perhaps there is something close for the other versions. Here are the reg keys foe the Dash 3G:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\
{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\
Connections\*your connection name*\AlwaysOn = 1
There will be two *your connection name* to look for one is Data the other Internet (Internet is usually assigned to WiFi connections or 3G)

Yup, that worked for me! I bet it'll kill battery life though. This must be a problem specific to pandora since none of my other streaming radio/youtube apps lose collection. Still... Many Thanks!
I tried this reg edit but it still cuts out. One time one song played all the way through, never before or after that though. I'm using a 3vo rom on the HTC OZONE for Verizon (CEDAR) any thoughts? I think I'll update to the latest rom by 3vo tomorrow.

I tried changing my power settings but it didn't seem to help, maybe I just need a clean start, time for an updated rom! Thanks for the help though!
I'm now running the latest rom from HTC tried the registry edit, rebooted my phone, and still my pandora cuts out after about 2 minutes. Any suggestions on what my power management settings or any other settings should be to make this work?
Thanks.
My home screen is not getting any weather display - when I run the weather app directly I can add locations and view the weather for them, but whenever it tries to update "My Location" it fails with a connection error. Any ideas? I'm using an O2 contract SIM card if that makes any difference (connected via WiFi also).

Pure guesswork here, but assuming you're indoors or have no GPS signal, your phone would try to use cell towers to locate you and give you the current weather. Using a WiFi connection probably means it can't locate you?
Try without WiFi on the first time so that it can get a location, and maybe subsequent updates via WiFi will assume that your "My Location" has stayed the same?
Just a guess but dose it need a GPS signal to get the location or does it take it off the cell towers.

I should post a bit quicker
It's not that unfortunately, I've tried it both with a GPS signal and with WiFi turned off. Google maps knows where I am also. Most odd.
i have the same problem today. Worked through Activesync this morning. Internet seems OK today but weather is showing a connection error!
Maybe the location service (or the weather service) is down?
I just disabled it from showing in weather tab by using duttys disable location cab. Couldn't get it to work either so its useless to me.
all ok here
It never worked correctly on the custom roms for HD - and everyone was putting it down to "pre-release" software lol. I either get a connection error or no weather for your location!!!
I wonder if it's related to your service provider - I'm with O2 UK, anybody else have the same and got this working please?
I found a semi-decent workaround at least - the location used on the home screen is the one you set as your own in the world clock tool. That can either be the dynamic "My Location" or a city of your choosing.
I'm with Vodafone, and it seems to be working fine for me. Did you make sure that the 'location' settings are set right? i.e. HTC location service is checked, and 'Improve location service by collecting data at any time when device is in use' is set to on?
also on vodafone and its working fine for me
Orange - not working
next time you're out and about, try to update the weather. I have a polaris with WM6.5 which refuses to update at my home location but drive 20m down the road and it finds my location and tells me the weather. unfortunately when i return home it won't update, it's stuck on the wrong place and time. very chuffing annoying. I'm on O2 contract. the "helpful" erk on the helpline advised that as my handset is not sold as WM6.5 they could not help, what a cop out - [email protected]
rivets
Still no joy here, tried as many different combinations and scenarios as I can think of. I guess it just won't work for me with my SIM card, for whatever reason.
I get that problem depending on where i am. I'm on o2 aswell.
I am on O2 and nver got it to work so disabled it.
I had to agree to use the Google location service to get the weather working.
First of all I'm using a Topaz with the standard 6.5 ROM. Everything worked fine.
Now I'm want to update my weather and it gives me another weather forecast. Overhere in Holland it's about 4 celsius and the forecast is saying it's 24 celsius. I've also notice that the time is about three hours later then mine local time. Is there a problem with the HTC Europe server? He's updating Bangkok, the clock flip backs to GMT+7 Bangkok, Hanoi. I'm Amsterdam GMT +1. Did several soft resets but that doesn't matter either.
Lately I've installed Gaz TD 2 tools.

Connect to WiFi and see if that fixes it.
WiFi sucks at my place so I've linked my device to my pc. Run active sync and tried. Still the same :S
Take a look in your phone settings, maybe you have checked the automatic change of hour zone and clock, when I have this activated Vodafone mess it up an give a strange location and hour.
I know about that and I've allready checked it out.

I appreciate your help, thanks
If I select a location nearbye it won't give any troubles. The time is right and the weahter prediction is correct.
A couple of days ago I went outside and tried to update the weahter forecast. Same problem, same time GMT +7. After that, I went to work some kilometers (10km) furhter then my place. Tried the samething and it update the time and weather forecast just the right way. After work I went to my girlfriends place, also updated the weather, still no problems.
Today back home I thougt lets update the weather forecast. And yes it was messed up again. GMT +7 again, etc, etc. Still no news from HTC. Thats strange because normally they reply verry quick.
Maybe is something related to the TD2 Tools, Have you asked in that thread?; try to uninstall, or, more radical, back up of your data and Hard Reset...
I met with similar problem, probably diamond recieved wrong information about position from gsm network (your provider has bad geographical data on bts). Try to use only gps to set your location at home.

sorry for my bad english...try this, change phone settings to off, phone will not take position from network, in the waether panel choose option my location. Of course diamond has to be connected to internet.
additional question, if you set your location manualy, weather is ok? I had in our network (vodafone) on my place some town from asia...

What do you mean by setting the location manualy.
So I have to turn off my phone in comm manager. Still link my phone to my pc?

yes, in comm manager and phone must be connected via wifi or pc to internet just to receive weather data from server. In this case phone will use gps to set your location.
manually...I mean, you can set your town in option "add new town" in weather panel, if you receive wrong data from gsm netwok there must be a difference between automatic location received via network and your manual entry.
Okay I've seen that. I'll try when I'm back home.
My city isn't in the list but I've added some city's nearbye and they updsted correctly.
Got some screen shots made with shake and save. First I had this only in my home town. Now I've got it some kilometers further at my girls place. Also have been e-mailing with htc. They told me it's about the gms not gps. It updates good with only gps when I turned the phone of in comm manager.

As I tried to explain...I think the problem is because phone updates its position from positioning system in gsm network (LBS=Location-based-Service). Bts could have wrong location information or there could be some problem with compatibility with phone and network etc. Some other services provided by your operator are based on LBS usually on wap portal (place of nearest ATM, petrol station. etc.), try to use some and see the result.

Still e-mailing with HTC. I've also e-mailed Vodafone NL because they are about the GSM-pole.
When you hold down the search sensor button you get in-app-wifi toggle, It's really hot, because if your online and you decide to turn on your wifi, no more going to home screen to use your power widget, you just hold down that button and it automatically toggles your wifi. Every day I'm learning something new about this beautiful phone. Also, they have fixed the issue with the 3D gallery, all the pictures load lighting quick and at the same time, wifi seems to be enhanced, and phone reception to, I was on the train earlier and I went into a tunnel and I was able to talk until I reached the station, which is a bit of a way underground. I'm using the prioritizer app, and I used to get reception like that on my G1 when I used it, people didn't believe me until I got a phone call in the subway one day, I heard a kid say who gets phone calls in the subway, lol, and whenever I pass one of those grates that lead to outside, text messages come through sometimes. Mine is set to always use voice search. Anyone know who to change this?
I use QuickDesk Beta with a Power Control Widget as well as some other nifty shortcuts. If you download it from the market, the next time long press search there will be and option for the QuickDesk.
If you want to change yours going to search you have to go to settings>application>search(or the program being opened) and undo the defaults for that program.
Is that a stock option, on-app wifi? Or is it a piece of a wifi toggle app, why don't i have it.
You actually need an app to do that, try search in the market 'In App Wifi Toogle'
it's by Oliver Pearmain
A few ROMs have this in as standard (it's pretty useful) but it's not a FroYo thing. It's not in the CM ROMs and possibly won't be.
Just downloaded the in-app wifi toggle from the market. What an extremely handy app!!!
(need to toggle 3g - Wifi a lot since the froyo radio...3g reception in house has worsened quite a bit)
Thanks for the info!
My vote goes to QuickDesk Pro + Power widget as well... much more useful IMHO
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/in-app-wifi-toggle-for-android/
Best thing to use on the search long press is Quick Settings.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.bwx.bequick
You can customize which settings appear on that list, it's awesome. I use it to toggle wifi, sound, brightness (including an auto-brightness toggle), auto-rotate, and a few more.
Play with the settings and configure it to exactly what you want and then every setting is one click away wherever you are.
A little help

Go into application setting, then manage applications, scroll until you find voice search, click on it and there should be a option to clear defaults, clear it. next time you use this function you'll be prompted to choose default action, just don't check the box and the prompt will always come up.

You can change your network type for improved reception, go to phone press *#*#4636#*#* and wait for the hidden testing area. Click on phone information, scroll down until you see your set network. Try them all to see which one gives you the best reception. Once you choose one it will reset your network so let it do its thing, your bars and 3G icon should reappear.

Er, not really...it may improve network selection, but it won't improve signal.
WCDMA preferred - Use 3G but when signal is weak prefer 3G over GSM.
GSM only - obvious.
WCDMA only - Use only 3G, has no signal then when only GSM present.
GSM auto PRL - Use 3G but when signal is weak, prefer GSM over 3G
All the CDMA/EvDO stuff does apply to our phones...its the same stuff for, but for those networks and GSM/CDMA auto is for combination phones... (ie - "world" phones from Verizon, etc)
Easiest way to improve Nexus One reception - hold it in your left hand.

Google with the FRF91 update. Why do you think updates kept coming out so quickly. Google has a ear to the ground, they put the Nexus out there as a test of Android OS, and they want feedback to improve it. It's all about feedback and improvement.
