Brand new dopod d810, wifi connection to home network, directory on main computer shared to the network, mapped network drive with Resco Explorer, and GSFinder, open mp3 file and get this...

"The parameter is incorrect"? What parameter? I can open mp3 files on the storage card no problems. Any ideas anyone? Is this a problem with the mapped drive, a problem with WMP?
What a crappy error message. How vague can you get Microsoft?

error msg
try adding /* after the IP or network share you have should work for you i had the same problem with media encoder connections cant remember if it was a foward slash or back slash

can u be more specific....
sowwwyy

ok open windows media player click menu >open url then type the ip addy followed by /* its a wildcard character that will allow you to stream from the remote host. give me exactly step by step what you are doing and i will see where you are going wrong

umm i dont really want to have to open the media player everytime i see a mp3 file.. i just want to click on the mp3 and then it should open the media player with it..
im using GSFind 1.4 as a network tool, when i click on a mp3 file then it tries to open up in media player then it shows the above error..
now in GSfinder.. theres an option in there when i right click on it select open then uder there its got open with parameters..
now what do i do to that ?? maybe theres an option i put in ??

ok i gotcha im not too famialiar with gsfinder but i did download it and play with it for a few min. but wmp needs that /* to play the mp3 or whatever file you want. whatever the path is for the file you need to add that slash asteric to the end b4 it gets to wmp. this wasnt required on the wm2003 devices because wmp assumed /* anyway but they took it out for some reason when wmp 10 was out for wm5. if you copy the path in gsfinder then paste it into open url in wmp followed by the /* you will see it will open. i dont know of a way you can just click on a file in gsfinder and force it to add that to the end. what i used to do is save a playlist on my desktop and browse to it on my phone and when i selected it i would open path followed by /* then it would work play all songs in playlist no prob

Can you view your computers files on your phone using AS

Activesync? How would you do it? Through file explorer or something?
I'm doing it by standard means of Windows.
Yeah, just enter your share's name on your device. The built in file explorer will do it, but I prefer Resco.

Can you not Active Sync via wifi then??
I have wifi but never tried it
I don't think so.
I don't know for sure as I don't use Activestink. (It will not run on my computer)
When I was using AS and the built in file explorer I didnt see an option to look in My Network? Do I need to configure anything? The furthest "Up" I could get to was My Device
I dont understand how to get to My Network? Anyone?
How do you connect to your networked PCs?
Hey how did you connect to your networked PC? I have Total Commander and have tried setting up the network neighborhood through that to no avail Can you access the network neighborhood via the built in file viewer?! If so how?
Thanks, Jess
BTW, Microsoft disabled ActiveSync via wifi in version 4 due to complaints of security, etc. Try 3.8 I believe that was the last version that supported sync over wifi. (Although I have not tried it)
Im not sure how to setup a network with my phone? Anyone know how to do this? Please?! Thanks!
Sorry to go on but... Anyone?
I think I need to set up a network on my computer so the phone can connect to it? Yes? No?
This works for me:
My Computer
Computer name: pchome
Create a folder on you PC for example "PocketPC" and share this folder!
PocketPC
Using TotalCommander in this example.
- Open TotalCommander
- Double click "\\" It should be above "Application Data".
- Double click "LAN"
- Double click "< new server >
- Enter "pchome" -> "OK"
- Press "OK" again
Now it should show pchome on your screen.
When you double click it it should show you your shared folders
Hmmm, that looks good I will have to try this when I get home.
To share a folder you just right click it and tick the share box or something dont you?
Correct
I cant get it to work ?
I followed all those steps... Hmmmmmmmmm, just coming up no files in the folder
I followed the same steps, even have other folders that are shared... still not working... hmm
Thanks, Jess

CEProp v1.0 File Explorer (properties add-in)

This little app gives the standaard explorer some extras like:
* View file and folder properties: Type, size, and time of last modification
* View and change file attributes: Read only, hidden, archive.
* Rename files and folders, including the filename extension.
* Edit shortcuts.
* View version information for program files.
* Open files with other applications, such as Pocket Word.
Requirements:
* Supports Windows Mobile 2003 through Windows Mobile 6 Professional/Classic, and works with landscape, square, VGA and 320x320 screens.
Kind of similar to File Explorer Extention or the other way around

It is free. You can get it here (installer and .cab)
The .cab I could install. Using the installer I got a problem "not trusted certificate"
Tested on my TD I.

Just downloaded and tested it ... it does! Really useful. BTW, anyone knows how to 'open with' other apps other than the default app and the 2 std alternatives provided (ie internet explorer and word)? I went to settings but was not able to select other applications - was asked to enter 'Name', and 'Command'.

Give the name and the full path to the program. There isn't any browse option(yet)
Thanks! Will try that ... not absolutely critical yet. The main use for this app is very useful and works as expected.
Yes it works with File Explorer Extention installed you end up with property and properties also adds exta options like attributes of the file Nice find thanks

In addition to the files supported by ZUNE, what other file types can be transferred from PC to WP7 device?

The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected.
Zune is closed.
Cables are tight.

No, only things exposed by the phone like photos and videos.

loading videos

How did you guys load videos onto your xoom? I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit and whnen i try to copy movies from my PC to my Xoom, it simply fails to copy to the Xoom.
When I first drag the file to the Movies folder on the Xoom, I get a notification that the file is not compatible and might not play. I then hit copy anyway, and simply doesn't copy. The progress indicator doesnt budge.
Any ideas?

I get the same popup, but they copy once i hit do it anyway. Maybe try renaming them zip and once its down rename back?
I'll try rebooting the xoom later when I get home.
I have the same question! My Xoom doesn't load as a drive, it loads as a Portable Media Device.
I open it and browse to 'Movies' and I try to copy this mp4 video and it says its an invalid format [Skip, Skip All, Cancel]. I'm using WinXP. If I use my Win7 Pc, i can choose skip or continue anyway. What gives?
I tried an avi too.
edit: Ok, and to add to the confusion, I made a video on the Xoom (.3gp) copied off to my WinXP box then deleted the file from the Xoom. I THEN tried to copy it back to the Xoom and it gives the same error....

Place all music files in a folder and choose only that folder as directory on your music player...
=========HOLO-UBUNTU========theme
You can do as above or place a .nomedia file in the folder you don't want to be scanned for media
I think you just create a text document and call it .nomedia (don't forget the dot prefix)
note the file will disappear unless you have show hidden files ticked in your file browser
or copy a .nomedia file from another folder - you are bound to have one somewhere - search your phone with a file browser - you must include hidden files & folders in search & have show hidden files ticked in your file browser
I think gameloft games does not open if there is any different file in data folder
Try another music player which have option to filter music files, like walkman music player which filter music file more than 800 kb....:fingers-crossed:
( Google music player not have this, i think ! )
using root explorer
- create a new file not a folder
- rename it to ".nomedia"
- place it in the games directory
- clear music apps data or media scan again
In power amp there is a option in setting where u can select from where u want d music files to be visible. deselect the game files
