Hi Guys, Ii am sure I have read all I can find about this so I thought I'd post something!
The manual (and posts here) say that the TomTom program is to be found on the applications cd found with my Ameo - but on it are GPRS monitor, Sprite backup, Sprite backup windows setup and the manuals and virus protection... no sign of TomTom at all!
HHEEEELLLPP please - i tried google maps and its great - but TomTom is what i want then i can get rid of my sat nav unit!
Thanks in advance - Adam
TomTom doesn't come with the Ameo (You can of course buy it). I've heard from jmdrizen that T-Mobile have started shipping the Ameo with Copilot. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303789&highlight=copilot

It only comes as standard with the X7500 variant of the Athena.

All T-mobile Ameos around the world will NOT come with GPS software pre-installed...only HTC Advantage as far as I know.
Can you use the gps and use google maps to track your location in real time? Can someone try this and see if it works?
Thanks.
I'm jealous you guys have it already, I am goin to wait for the advantage.

Never tried google maps sorry, but when I get a chance I'll look into it...do you have a link to google maps info and application download? Don't really know how it works either.
As I resently found out: TomTom just check for the Athena String. So you can do following:
Grab a Friend who uses a licensed Version of TomTom Navigator 6
Copy his Card to e.g. Microdrive (I would recommend, to use a SD-Card, as bumbs on the road will stess the MD to much)
Remove those Map-Folders from your copy (Western Europe, or Country Name)
Push the card into your slot, or start via explorer on your Ameo the Start.exe.
This will install TomTom and on first startup, well, it will present you a voucher for a citymap of your choice. Here you go with your new licensed software of tomtom......
You may later on buy additional maps as you need. from single cities to western europe or other parts of this blue planet.
according to TomTom this is fine, and by intend, as long as you do not copy Maps licensed to a different device.
This possibly do not apply to all customized OEM-ware. But T-Mobile is registered Distributor of TOMTOM. That might be a reason .....
My HTC X7500 bought through Mobile Planet came with a software disc that includes TomTom Navigator 6 and a bunch of junks on it. I don't intend to use TomTom Navigator 6 so if any one wants to buy it, please let me know. TomTom Navigator 6 is sold for $149.99 but you can have it for half the price. The seal of the sotware disc is still unbroken so you know it's has not been activated on my HTC X7500.
I "believe" what you have is that standard DEMO disc. It will give you one local map with the option to "purchase" others...The "Full" version for $149.99 includes the Entire US and Canada!
OK... Good to know that the whole disc is full of junks. I'm glad I wasn't charged for TomTom Navigator 6 when I bought my HTC X7500. So they charge $100 more than the HTC X7501 just for the front camera? I can buy a good real camera for $100. On other note... why the hell does every body say HTC X7500 comes with TomTom Navigator 6? What a bunch of morons!!! A demo disc of TomTom Navigator 6 doesn't mean the HTC X7500 comes with it!!!!

Does it have over legal speed limit warning? If so,does it have facility for user to self enter legal speed limit of any portion of a road, where the map data is incomplete?

That would be asking for warez, in which case please see Guidelines, point 11
I second that, although I am not sure whether that counts for TomTom Navigator.
The software can be freely downloaded from their site (this free software is on the 7500 CD), it is the maps that must be bought (these are not on the CD)...

I doubt killershot20 wants to use the software with no maps - not much of a navigation system!!!
Both Spriteback and Tomtom Navigator on the cd are trial versions.
I already have full versions of both.
I just wanted to check them out, is all.
I'm starting to wonder about the X7501 - it's turning into hard work and the surprises are becoming a little (a lot) annoying.
The flaky Microdrive was the first surprise - still waiting on HTC (who have been responding to emails) to come up with a viable solution.
Now, I've just learnt from Tom Tom that my new X7501 will not run TomTom unless it is running the ROM that already has TomTom loaded:
Please note that only the Advantage X7500 running Windows Mobile 6 is compatible with Navigator 6. This PDA comes preinstalled with a special version of the Navigator 6 software on its Rom memory. Unless your HTC Advantage X7501 comes preinstalled with a special version of Navigator 6 it is not compatible with the software.
Perhaps I'm being a little ambitious, but I'd like the X7501 to use the TomTom software and maps loaded on the X7501 - not downloaded as you go. I'm happy to buy these (for Australia) from TomTom.
Do I box it up and return it or is there an alternative GPS/on board maps solution possible to bring this puppy back into the serious category?
Thanks
Bart
i dont see why you shouldnt be able to install tom tom and run it ... afterall it is a windows mobile program
have you tried?
I agree - it's only an app - so why do TomTom say it'll only work on a machine with the software preloaded?
BTW, Can't find a copy of TomTom 6 to try. Downloading the update from the site doesn't help. There's nothing on my HTC CD that may help.
works on Ameo
I manageded to get Navigator 5 working on the Ameo with WM6, can't see why you couldn't. TomToms tech support is very bad so don't take thier word for anything.
i have x7501 an TomTom 6 works great. pm me with you email an i can send you the cab file that you need.
pre-installed according to tomtom?
Bollocks.
Comes on the fricking CD to be added manually.
works fine as well, as does TT5 and Copilot 6 (apart from not natively being VGA, but seems to work for me anyway)
Maybe they mean the version of TomTom that is bundled on the CD?
When I got my x7500, it came with a bundled tomtom, sprite backup and a gprs monitor .. none of these work however if I'm using a custom ROM.
Downloading fresh, unrestricted versions of each however work fine .. looks like the cabs are rom specific
I have x7501 and x7500. i tried installing the cd that comes with x7500 and it doesnt work with x7501. it will tell you it is not the correct device. i have ttn 6 cab that works. pm me ...

Really? Damn...
I had to use SPB GPRS Monitor and 'find' a key
Oh well .. nevermind, I don't use TomTom that much as I dont have a car yet and I've jst got an unlimited data plan, so I dont really need the gPRS monitor anymore. Thanks for the input though .. can I ask which ROM you're using?
Hi,
I just bought an Ameo from ebay, unfortunately I was not careful enough to realize that it did not come with TomTom installed on it, and the cds and minisd card. Now, I started looking for where I could download TomTom but actually could not which one to download...what is the required version for WM6 Ameo? And, how is it installed on the Ameo?
Thanks and Regards,
niits84
look for a cab file in the kaiser forum. I used that one on my advantage and works fine, just added a different voice you get one free map
Hi, did a search and nothing came up.
But just wondering where can i get the TOMTOM navigation software that works with the TP2 please??
also are there any sites specially for TP2/windows mobile apps??
thanks
AFAIK the Tomtom software is free, you only pay for the maps, but I could be wrong. I'm using 7.915.9196 which is VGA and works fine
I don't think there is any TP2 specific software on the market but there is loads of WM6 stuff
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php is a place to start and handango

same here, no problems at all. already tookm a trip, relied on it, and trip went perfect
TomTom is shipped with some devices. But it's not freeware!
Beware you don't start talking warez here
TomTom just made TomTom 7 available on their website for PocketPC's.
TomTom works just fine on the Rhodium probably.
no GPS LAG?
TOM TOM software is not free. and will not currently work with TP2. well the home software dont work. So i cant get the map i purchased. And they wont refund as i was not using a licensed version of software so definitely not free and not officially working

tom tom navigator works purfect on the TP2, have it on mine
Hi
I Have tomtom 7.450 installed on my tp2 and its working well for me.
yes but are they legal versions and work with the TOMTOm home
I had version 7.910.9185 which didn't install.
I have now installed 7.915.9196 but it is asking to activate the map and wants an activation code.
So I went to ttcode.com to get one and it needs the product code. I can't find the product code anywhere, tomtom.com myorders doesn't mention one and tomtom home just shows the map version.
As far as I can make out from tomtom's help version ttn7 onwards don't use product codes.
So how do I get the activation code?
Contact TomTom about that
tomtom again
Hey guys,
iam new here and from germany.
Last week i got my new TP2 (branded by T-Mobile, now called "MDA Vario V")
i tried to install following versions:
Mod Edit: NO MENTION OF WAREZ PERMITTED
so,
if i install the programm on my "phone-storage" i got the warning "BTTrayCE is not a valiued application..."
if i install it on my sd-card i got NO warnings.
but in every versions i got the problem that the software do not find my extractet maps. I searched for a long time and tried different folders, and now its 11:00PM and i dont have any nerves left
i hope somebody can help me and gimme a detailed instructure how to get my tomtom running.
so far,
mypTx
TomTom questions always walk a thin line with regards to legality. No discussion of maps will be permitted.
Opps sorry never mind
There should be a ttnavigator.bif file on the root of the storage card which you can open up in notepad and find the code in there...I think.
if you have live services like traffic and speed cameras then 7.915 is useless as you cannot enable traffic (bug). There is also a definate lag on the GPS side of things compared to my TYTNII. Tomtom at present do not officially support the TP2, although when i phoned them they were more than happy to assist. TTHome is not worth bothering with till they release a version that is compatible with it. I kept on getting errors about device id not matching even though you select to change it and TomTom had reset my account. Gave up in the end and have copied speed cameras manually and traffic is now working.
Managed to get Tomtom 6 working!
Hi,
Having just bought a Touch Pro 2 sim free - loving the device and just about got it set up the way I like it.
You can indeed install Tomtom 6 on it, but BEFORE you do I highly recommend you install a utility called WVGAFIX3. What it does is allow you to change the resolution on your TP2.
Change it to VGA (640x480), then install and run TomTom. It's a bit of a pain toggling between resolutions at the moment, but once a WVGA version of tomtom is released then problem solved.
Got the radio working thanks to the CAB on here, and the 1% batt driver!

Why TT6? TT7.915.916 runs great on my Rhodium. No hassle with resolutions or anything.
Hi,
I tried to install TT Nav. 7 on my TP2, but it doesn't seem to work. I get a message dat TT7 is not compatible with my device. How did you guys got it to work?
Dear all,
It is posible to route Tomtom sounds to bluetooth headset or radio cd bt enabled as handsfree (as a phone call, only hear Tomtom when needed and till then carry on listening music)?
Thanks.
