Hi
I noticed that there is this file named services_log in "My device" path its size is currently 21MB and it is thus using a considerable amount of my device storage space.
I have done a lot of searches on google and on this forum yet no one has ever mentioned this.
What is this file?
can it be deleted and free up all that space?
Or can it be moved to storage card?
Thanks in advance for your help
Ken
Is there anyone who can answer my questions?
It seems that i am the only one having such a file? Does anyone else have a similar issue?

Maybe some of us just don't know a good answer and are waiting for a knowlegable person to stroll past?
You are not the only one to have the file.
It will be difficult to delete as you will likely get a message that it's in use.
You will find it's size fluctuates up and down. But to reduce it's size to a minimum, perform a soft reset from time to time (which with the Hermes you will never forget to do )
My belief is that this is a system file that simply logs running services - stops/starts - but I'm sure somebody "out there" knows more than me.

Does anybody have any idea what this does? It really is taking up a large portion of my storage space and I cant actually work out what it is logging and why the file is so big. I notice everyday my storage space getting lower and this file getting bigger.
Thanks to anyone that can shed light on this.
No idea what this file is - but I have the same problem with mine reaching a size of 12mb before I noticed it. I copied the file to my storage card then deleted it. Everything continued to work fine but the system created another new log this time a few k in size. It seems to be writing to this log file every minute or so with something about a VoiceMailClient.cpp so I think it will grow again - no problem will delete every now and then.
Cheers

Hi Guys,
First time post, long time lurker
The company I work for uses Vodafone V1605 (hermes 200 tytn) devices. I've just received one in that is getting this same fault. The services_log.txt file was 33.5mb!. I did a soft reset and copied the file for investigation, sure enough CVoicemailClient.CPP is logging constantly. After removing I noticed it created a new one that is rapidly increasing in size again. Soft reset performed.
They have over 300 of these in service but this is the first time I've seen this. O/S is WM5 (Vodafone ROM). I have another that is on WM6 which I use for testing that has the Schapps ROM on and this one seems fine.
Wondered if there was a wizz out there that can help the clueless
Cheers,
Paul.
After a bit of digging I found a link mentioning the V1605.
Spoke with Vodafone who provided final update ROM (2.07.161.1). Will try this and see if it resolves it.
Cheers,
Paul.
I have been having the same issues, the only way I could stop the file growing was to delete it (it only appears to be a log file and will be created again shortly afterwards) when it is recreated set it to be read only using Resco Explorer (Or similar). this will stop the system from adding anythig to the log.
If anyone can locate the cause for the log entries that would be a better solution.
Hope this helps...
Hi, I have the same issue with a Vodafone VPA Compact (herm 200). I have found that the error numbers in the log file change if I change the voice mail settings. The voice mail service seems to be working fine so I don't know why this file is being created. I have done a hard reset and setup the phone from scratch but I'm still getting this file. I have changed the file to be a read only file but this has not fixed the problem as all this has done is stop it from adding to the file rather than stop the problem.
after I changed the voice mail settings I get this log:

Hi Guys,
I found a solution for GprsServiceLogFile.txt file.
You have to access windows mobile registry by any application like CeReEditor and follow this route: HKLM\Software\Apps\GPRS Monitor\Debug\DebugLogFlag and change value from 1 to 0
Then, soft reset the mobile and delete the file.
I hope this can help anyone.

Hello,
Just picked up an imate JAMin and i'm loving it!
I've noticed however, that it is creating massive log files, the first will get to 3mb, then it will index and get another one going to 3mb and so on.
Error reporting is disabled and I can't find anywhere else that has an option for debugging.
Searched through the forums as well, so apologies if this is a simple answer.
The file it creates is DbgToStorageLogX.txt where X is a number.
Any help appreciated. - Thanks, Craig.
Where exactly do these files reside?
I looked for them on my Jamin with the latest i-mate ROM, but did not find them anywhere. It's been a month since I hard reset the thing.
Maybe you got a debug ROM version by mistake?
They are sitting in the root directory "\"
Other than the large files - it's also logging gprs (called gprs_debug) and BG_debug - which is backgammon bug log.
So - somewhere there must be a toggle that is causing it to log these files.
Thanks for the reply.
Craig.
Hello,
i have a file called History in the main device memory and it keeps going larger and larger every day! it seems like it is a log file for every time i soft reset my JasJar. i can't delete it or rename it and the only way to open it is to copy and paste in other folder and then i can open the copy.
can anyone advise how can i delete it or disable logging events?
Regards.
Internet Explorer history perhaps? You periodically need to clear the history cache from IE if you don't want your memory to fill up. I haven't found a way to put a limit on it. It just keeps growing till the whole friggin memory is full.
hi,
thanks for your reply but this is not the case! it is stand alone file which keeps recordings a log file of each time the device reset.
i had all kinds of i-mates before but this is the first time i see this file!
Hi,
I have raised this question many months ago. I had it on my old ROM and since upgrading to the latest Orange ROM i still have it.
The answer to my old post was that it was a debugging flag that was left enabled by the ROM - so far I have been unable to find it in the registry.
The only option might be to backup your device, hard reset and when you restore from the backup see if there is an option to ignore restoring the history.txt file.
Its very annoying and before I upgraded my ROM the file was at about 750K - now its at 55k, and thats within about 2 months.
Let me know if you find anything else about it.
Matt
Hi,
i have also tried to find it in the reg but no luck! so what backup software are you using?

I have only used Sprite Backup and this does now allow selective file restoration in the root directory.
Might be worth seeing if SPB backup will give the option to be more selective.

Well, after I installed it, it doesnt default to Xt9 any more when I go to new messages
Sweet!
can't find this, can you send the link?
this is fantastic!
what ROM are you using ? will this work with any ROM (and ROM language) ?
i would appreciate the link also!
here is the cab file, it's actually just a registry setting fix.
HTC-DUAL-TOUCH-XT9-TO-ABC-FIX
The registry concerned is:
Code:
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\IME]
CarrierDefaultTextMode=dword:0
(0 for ABC / 1 for XT9)
A friend gave me this link as I am also having a problem with the HTC site.
Enjoy!
oh my god it works !!!!
i cant believe how simple that was !!! thank you so much for the registry entry, i can use my phone to text again !!!
it's great!
this was the most anoying thing on my new dual.
tx a lot,
pirlone
Doesn't work for me
in fact it screws my device up!.. it shows the ABC being as the default input, but I can only type the first letter in each key, multiple presses just repeats the same letter
I guess I will have to reflash the OS.. otherwise I now cant use the text input on the keypad anymore!
works on mine. thanks, dtm for letting me know about this.
Maybe doesnt work on mine becos Im running the WM6.1 Nikki project OS ??
Anyone else that has installed this using this Version?

Hi, just copy the cab to the phone and install it. Maybe you need to softreset your Niki. (open the battery case, the reset button is left to the USB connector).
Cheers

I love this and it is working well for me. My only issue is when using the touch keypad software, when you type it highlights the letters and take a few micro seconds to move to the next so if I am typing a sentence, and press space,it deletes that entire word or atleast the last few letters that I typed :-( So the only way to solve this is not text that fast or use the hardware keypad.
Wow I noticed so many people reposting this when this was posted a long time ago.
Anyway, just wanted to confirm this is working on my wifes elf also
Finally there's something to kill XT9
Change Mode from ABC to XT9 or XT9 to ABC.
Hey everyone!
First, I wanted to start out thanking muzikfreakah for the link to the .cab file and the posting the Registry path that needs to be modified. I used these as a base reference for the work I completed on my phone. Instead of wanting to go from XT9 to ABC, I wanted to change my phone from ABC to XT9.
Initially I used PHM Registry Editor to make the necessary change to the Registry value you noted. Shortly thereafter, I updated my ROM to WM 6.1 so I had to reapply the settings manually. This got me thinking. Why not just create a quick .cab file for myself, saving me time in the future. This is exactly what I did!
Attached are two .cab's I created a while back (just never got around to uploading them). The first .cab (SP_Default_ABC_To_XT9.cab) modifies the appropriate Registry Key, setting it to 1 (defaulting to XT9). The second .cab (SP_Default_XT9_To_ABC.cab) does just the opposite, changing the value to 0 (defaulting to ABC).
Final notes before I part -
File Sizes: The file size of each of my .cab's is 1.07 KB, as it only contains the necessary Registry Key change. The link muzikfreakah provided brings you to "HTC+Touch+Dual-default-ABC.cab". This file size is 20.76 KB, as it appears to use a more complex method of making the necessary Registry changes.Company and Application Name: After my .cab is installed, it will display in the Installed Programs list as "Seth_Polley Default_XT9_To_ABC" (or vice versa depending on .cab used). After installing the other .cab (HTC+Touch+Dual-default-ABC.cab), the following is displayed in the Programs list: "Customization Customize_Tool".
In summary, either file will work for changing from XT9 to ABC. While 20.76 KB is nothing by today's standards, you can go smaller yet by using my .cab's (about 1/20th of the file size). Additionally, my .cab's provide a more descriptive name in the Programs list. Pick your poison! To 'install' the Registry modification, simply move the .cab to your phone, execute it, and follow the prompts.
Feel free to PM me if you have difficulties accessing/downloading the files. If you are concerned about using my files, feel free to open the .cab (can use an application like WinRAR) and review the contained "_setup.xml" file to verify this .cab will only make the changes I noted above.
Best Regards,
Seth

Hello expert,
on my Touch Diamond (Orig. O2 ROM 1.93) I have the following reproducible phenomenon, why I would like to please you for assistance. Can someone please check, if this is a general issue or somethin on my phone ? Or explain me, what's goin' on ?
o Start Pocket Internet Explorer and visit f.e. www.google.com
o Longclick on f.e. the Googlelogo or any another picture, until the context menu comes up
o Select ' Save picture', whereupon the following window appears:
Download
Download 2.58 KB file "logo_large_noshade.gif" to ' … icher\My document\Own Pictures\' ?
Yes / Save as / Cancel
o click on 'Yes' to store the file
And it disappeared without a trace ( I can't find it, neither in main storage, nor in internal memory, still with the search function of Total Commander and also not in 'My Documents', where I expected it.
(BTW: If I select 'Save As' and store it in root directory, it's there. Also it can be found in 'Temporary Internetfiles', where it disappeares after cleaning PIE's cache).
If I call the PIE again after Cache and other deletion of all temporary PIE data and would drive the above mentioned points out again, after clicking 'Yes' as above mentioned, there is an additional message:
Download
A file of this name already exists. Qould you like to replace it ?
So it's obviously there, but I can't find it.
Any advice, tips, hints ? Does your Diamond act as mine ?
I'm looking forward to reading from you )
Best regards from germany (so that's also the reason, why my english isn't good and all above mentioned HTC-messages are translated by myself, so perhaps they differ a bit from the english ROM) ;o)
Lars
I just tried it and got the same behaviour you mention. It is strange, but not exactly a serious issue when you can just over ride the default save location and retrieve the image from there.
Hi,
thanks Medulla for your confirmation. You're right, I can override the default save location (and will do this in the future).
But my problem is: I already saved alot and my datamemory is already nearly zero so I have to delete these files. Or completely hardreset the device *yiek*
Any further idea ? Regards: Lars )
Hi Guys,
I was playing with my HD2 last night when I received SMS, I tapped it to view it but the font size became so large that the writing overlaps.
When I type SMS the font size is ok and when looking at emails the size is fine, its just when u tap an incoming sms the size goes huge, and adivice or help?
I tried searching the forum or htc website but cant seem to see anything..
Thanks
Have you tried adjusting the font size? When viewing messages you can change the font size by clicking on Menu>Text Size.
Hello,
I have the same problem.
When I go to the SMS menu (where you can switch between directories : incoming, sent, trash) : the font is huge.
Except this problem all other font sizes are OK.
I've tried to search in the registry, but no lukc.
I've tried to change the font size in the parameters, even a soft reset : no effect on this huge SMS font.
I can try to send a picture to show the problem.
Thanks for any help !
Hello,
here is a picture of the problem.
On every other else apps, the fonts are OK...
It happened to me too lately, but reinstalling one of the SMS patches repaired it. Unfortunately, I can't remember, which one (07567 or 8007).
Pls. note that patches can be reinstalled only if you set the appropriate values under "HKLM\drivers\builtin\hotfix" to and earlier date. I set all of them to "20091119-00" before reinstall and it worked fine. Checking my registry afterwards shows that the value called "Messaging_Client_Version" is updated to "20100112-00" so you should run the patch that is related to that one.
Good luck! Z
Hello zoltansz,
thanks a lot for your help !
I tried to reinstall the 8007 patch and it works !
I didn't know waht values to change in registry in order to be able to reinstall this patch.
Thanks again for your help !
Do you think that it would be safer to reinstall the other patch 7567 or I don't need to do that ?
Hi !
I can't seem to find the path you indicated... looks like there's no "hotfix" in "built in" registry...
can you help me please ???
Thx
up ???
No one has any news ???
I'm desperate here....
Hi again !!!
I can't believe that no one has an answer on that issue..... i'm on rom 1.66 and i can't reload previous hotfix on sms, but can't find the path to HKLM/drivers/builtin/hotfix...
What should i do ??? how can i read my sms again ???
UP please help !!!!
Do a hard reset, that should fix it.
Just did a hard reset to install the rom 1.66... and that caused the trouble... not sure it will help...
Well, I have the same problem, but have the 1.66 official ROM, and the 8007 patch won't install because it says the version is incompatible (the 1.66 ROM supposedly has all the previous patches included).
I tried searching the registry for the specified "HKLM\....\hotfix" key, and it's not there either.
So, any additional ideas to overcome this problem ?
