i am recently deciding whether to part with my cash and buy a xda 2. First of all are they worth it? Also would i be able to use a pay as you go sim card from a samsung v200? which does have gprs as it has o2 active i was just wondering as i do not really want to go to a pay monthly plan
thnaks in advance
How much you paying for it? It will work with the sim you have as long as its an O2 phone, if not you can unlock it for free.
it will probably be £270 unlocked and yes i have a o2 sim card
You won't be able to take advantage of the full internet GPRS, I had no end of trouble trying to connect to MSN and websites outside of 02 active, even after numerous phone calls to 02, they never got this sorted out.
As far as I know, on a pay as you go simcard, you cannot benefit from full internet access with o2.
ye but is'nt there a way of changing the setting or something i heard you can do that to make it go on the internet
well can you plzz tell me so i can decide whether to get one
I have a PAYG vodafone in my xda2. Ive only just got the phone and still havent worked out how to get internet access on it. I downloaded vodafone's 'connect me' software and that buggered my actviesync connection so i had to uninstall it....
I would like to say that yes this is very possible.
I had my old XDA I and XDA II on pay and go with O2 I had full internet and full GPRS though it took alot of time to get the settings but I managed it. the only annoying this is when you send a text it tells you your credit about 5 times. I have now got the XDA IIi and the sim also works with this.
conclusion is that yes it can be done and its not hard either. just change the ISP and work connection
cheers can to share the setting for the xda 2 if you know them as if i get one i might need them trying to get my parents to pay half for my birthday present lol
I paid USD $600 for O2 XDA II 2 months ago.
But it's worth.
I'm using it in programming Pocketpc application, capture Discovery from my PC then copy it to my SD 512 MB and view in PocketPC when go to sleep, listen MP3s, use softwares...
It's a nice XDA man !

There used to be a way, by changing the Proxy settings, but this does not work for newer SIM's.
O2 PAYG SIM's less than 18 months old (I think) can only access WAP via GPRS.
Cost: Expect to pay £200-£250 for a good condition XDA II on Ebay (just got £235 for mine, but some have gone for as little as £180)
well my sim card is from a samsung v200 which was brought new about november 2003 which has gprs on it, but now am not sure although i suppose if it does not work i should be able to pick on up easily from a store somewhere
Anyone have the Voda settings for GPRS/MMS? I'm on O2 and the reception around here is hit and miss, but Voda is always spot-on. I've a PAYG card that's data-enabled, I just need the settings for the XDAII.
I have a brand new XDSA 2i, but I am unfortunetly having to sell it on ebay, to pay off the rest of my outstanding contract. I am planning to sell the phone with a brand new 300 free texts sim card, but i want to make sure that it will be conpatible! anyone here in the UK, can you help!
thanks, Cameron
(I hope this is in the right section)
I recommend you unlock the phone to any network if you haven't already, and yes it'll work with it, but the connections settings for GPRS and MMS will most probably need adjusting
Guys
Firstly this is my first PDA so bear with me
I have just got a O2 XDA Atom
I have a prepaid Vodaphone sim which i use
I connected them up and got onto vodaphone to get it setup for GPRS
After an hour or so on the phone, we can seem to connect to them via GPRS but it will not load any web pages. They then informed me that the phone doesnt supposed WAP and so i cannot use it with there GPRS?
Is this true ? what are my options ? Its a lot of money to spend so i can use excel etc
Thanks for any help
Jason
Can anyone help me?
ive had the same problem with vodafone, have you tried a diffrent sim card in it? with mine think theres something up with my sim because any other vodafone sim works fine!
I am in a different country but I have had this problem with my local vodafone before. The sales people know nothing about gprs and other data services. I have been very clear to them an stated what I want to use a service for and after being assured everything is fine still nothing works. In the end for me the solution with vodafone was to move to a billed account. After that (and a phone call to activate it) all wap and gprs worked fine.
Hi
I have an o2 XDAII that was bought from o2 on a contract.
The contract has ended. I want to use the XDA on PAY AS YOU GO for Internet Access only.
I've bought an o2 PAYG SIM card and they have confirmed that the SIM is GPRS enabled.
However, having followed all the correct connection settings, I can't get it to connect to the internet.
I have tried xdaunlock and it says that the phone appears to be unlocked already so that was no help.
I spoke to o2 and they said that the phone was 'designed' for contract only and there is no guarantee it will work on PAYG as it is 'locked' to a contract only setting.
If I check in MY XDA there is a box to tick for pre paid or post paid. PRE is what I want but I am unable to tick it. Only POST (ie contract) is available.
Anyone got any ideas how I can get around this or have I got a redundant XDA that won't work unless I keep my contract?
Cheers
Yes it works!
I have a Himalaya that's just been retired as I put my O2 contract SIM into a new Artemis.
I followed the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341203 and have got GPRS working happily on my Himalaya using an O2 Pay and Go SIM.
Hi, I bought an O2 exec and have loaded on WM6 Crossbow..I am using an O2 pay and go sim, despite putting in the settings for O2 found on the forum..i am still unable to connect to the internet. I called O2 customer services who advised me that the Exec will only work on contract. Does anyone else use O2 pay and go? If so please can you let me know the settings. Or should i get it unlocked and change providers.
no can do
There no way you can get full O2 internet without a contract .....I think you require a different (3g) sim card
