Vz6700 - XV6700, PPC-6700 General

can verizon xv6700 work on gsm band?
is there some electronic changes to make into phone!?`
thanks

You would have to completely replace the radio (hoping it fits into the case), then somehow create a custom ROM that has the drivers for that radio, and also wire up a SIM reader correctly into the whole mix. If you really are in it for the challenge, *maybe* it could be done, but you'd be better off searching ebay for a used Wizard or such.

Sandisk Connectplus card w/ WM5 possible?

Anybody know a way to get a Sandisk Connectplus +128 wifi CF card to work with WM5 ? Drivers for WM2003 are available from Sandisk but that's all. Some of the Linux users have gotten theirs to work with Prism 3 drivers, but it didn't work for me. I've got an ipaq hx4700 with onboard wifi. I have the card leftover from an older ipaq and would like to try to make an external antenna for it rather than messing with the onboard wifi. Thanks for any help.

This forum is for HTC manufactured devices but have you tried the 2003 drivers maybe they will work
Sorry, I thought this device was made by HTC because there's alot of posts about it on another thread. Anyway, I wasn't able to get it to work with the 2003 Sandisk drivers or with some HTC customized Prism drivers from another site. The card doesn't show up at all, not even a message like "unrecognized card" (the 128MB of built in flash on the card are available however)
I may be doing something wrong, my knowledge of these things is very limited. I removed the ipaq wireless manager shortcut .lnk file from the startup folder and made sure the onboard wifi was not active but, maybe other registry changes need to be made as well.?
BTW, out of curiosity I thought I would take a peek at the onboard wifi internals. Fairly simple removing the 4 screws and popping off the plastic corner antenna cover. I noticed what looks like a connector of some kind in the wifi area: not on the wifi daughterboard but just next to it. I don't know what it is, testing connector? JTAG? or maybe antenna? I'm not about to mess with my internal wifi hardware without knowing what the hell I'm doing but maybe others would be interested. Googleing about external wifi connector hacks on PDAs I only find one guy that did it with his Axim.

can you post a pic maybe i can help you with this more then the drivers
I'll try to post a pic later.
Meanwhile I haven't totally given up on this old card. I tried installing the official Sandisk 2003 drivers again and managed to get the ipaq to "see it"' but it won't connect: the LED on the card blinks but there are no networks being detected where there should be.
BTW, for any HTC owners, here's the link to the custom Sandisk drivers I tried earlier. Probably ancient for most but might help someone.

maybe its a typo but its not HPC its HTC (High Tech Computer Corp. and is the name of the manufacture) but maybe he meant Handheld PC (came before pocket pc look at link). So the drivers are i think even before WM2002.(thats cool that they are still around maybe all these forums will still be around in ten years or more)
and he edited the drivers so that the would work on a old device, dont see that, that much

Help Neaded to Upgrade The PPC 6800 RAM

...............................
I'm not sure but I think it needs special tools... at least a lot of other PPCs do.
So it is possible??
I want to upgrade my 6700 to the 6800 but the lack of RAM has going for the Touch, I don't want to give up the keyboard and wifi but it seems worth the sacrifice. But if it is possible to upgrade the RAM on the 6800 well that changes everything.
Could someone with experience pls give some feedback on the matter.
Thanks
Yes it is posible everything is posible I'm not an expert means I'm not an ingenier but I'm IPC 610 Certified I Know A+ and Network + and more..I have work directly with ingeniers developing and designing all kinds of mother boards I kow the tools needed and I also know that may be we will need to buy a hi amount of chips to the fabric I am intereste in kowing if any one can tell me before boyding my waranty what it is the exact chip and who is the vendor so I can start working with some of my friends soldering and unpgrading the RAM...
you need to be able to reliably solder mBGA components and be able to modify the bootloader/kernel to use that amount of ram
I know How to soler SMT componets... that is not a problem I worked as QC inspector of SMT components....
how did you manage to transpose your accent in your post?
I think the possible destruction of your Device is not worth the hassle... but you're welcome to try.
Do tell if you manage to pull it off successfully
Yeah, it is possible. Since you seem to already know about SMT rework and have access to proper tools, there's a fair chance you actually succeed. To get the proper chip you would probably need to open up your device and see the part number of your current RAM chip and search for its datasheet. Based on that, you'll need to choose exactly the same kind (same memory type, same timings, same pinout, preferably the same manufacturer) of memory, but of bigger capacity.
There are even some companies offering PocketPC upgrade service (just run a google search for PocketPC RAM upgrade).
And as far as i know, WinMo will use the bigger ram chip without any bootloader/kernel modifications, just like your PC (at least a winCE 4 Simpad did) - but you'll need to do some more research here since i never tried it personally and can't guarantee anything.
Unfortunately, BGA chip type limits you to 128MB ram (as far as i know, it's the biggest capacity you'll get in a single chip). In case of SOT/TQFN memory it was possible to solder a second chip on top of the old one (however i don't remember the exact details), therefore doubling the RAM size. Obviously, it's not possible with BGA, and even if it was, there's simply no room for that inside a modern device

Buying new phone thinking about the shift

i was wondering this phone takes tmobile sim cards can this be used as a phone or just a computer and what is the difference in this and the htc advantage how much bigger is this then the advantage and which do you guys think is better phone thanks
Don't buy a Shift if you are looking for a phone!. Whilst it is eminently possible (nay probable!) that voice telephony will be made possible in the future, it will be via a cooked rom and not an HTC "supported" option.
There's a lot of talk on the forum about getting this functionality working, and it looks like it is almost there, but my advice would be don't buy a Shift if you want to use it as a regular phone - it's a large device and at present you'd have to use a wired headset to use it properly because bluetooth is not available on the WM side of the device, and probably never will be.
The Shift is way bigger than the Advantage - it's a small laptop rather than a large phone. The Advantage is always going to be a better "phone", because it was designed with voice telephony in mind, whereas the Shift was only really designed with data telephony in mind.
I'm not trying to put you off buying a Shift - it does what it designed to do very well IMHO. However, there are plenty of people claiming the device is "crippled" when what they really mean is that it is currently not possible to access features that it was never actually advertised as having!
I love my Shift, and if I could change just two things about it, it would be:
1. More memory - Vista doesn't run too well in 1gb of memory
2. Double the battery life - from my perspective the battery life is just too short.
I know that others would want voice telephony and access to BT/Wifi/SD card from the SnapVue side, amongst other things, and if these things came along I'd be happy to see them, but they weren't really requirements for me when I bought my Shift. I'm firmly of the opinion though that BT/Wifi/SD access will never be natively accessible from SnapVue.
Regards,
Dave
Just to elabrate on the size...if you turn the advantage so you're looking at it from a portrait perspective, with the keyboard folded in and the case on, its almost exactly twice the width across, and depth and thickness are about the same
Only when/if bluetooth is available from SnapVue side with voice calling enabled will I consider selling my Advantage and Diamond and using it as my only device for everything, and even then I have some reservations that it is just too big be used as a phone. Still got some thinking to do on this.
At the moment though, for me it's predominantly a UMPC, connected to my Diamond via bluetooth with Network Sharing on for access to 3G/HSDPA via the Sim Card in the Diamond. Works for me! (For the time being)

[Q] Rom suggestions? bluetooth / USB host / etc

So, I've been playing with my Evo for the last month or two, and i've finally come to the conclusion that there are enough things that I'd have *occasional* use cases for that I can't do with the stock firmware. So, I'm thinking about rooting my phone and trying another rom.
I found the list of roms in the wiki, but as someone else pointed out, it doesn't really go into what makes the different roms different. and the pages for the individual roms don't always have the info I'm looking for.
The suggestion that was made to that user was CyanogenMod. If nobody comes up with a better suggestion, that's probably where I'll start.
So, here's what I'm looking for, in a roughly prioritized order:
1) A non-lobotomized bluetooth stack. Specifically, in addition to the profiles included in the stock rom, I'm looking for SPP and HID (for keyboards and real gamepads)
2) I know the USB controller is OTG capable. It would be really nice to be able to use it as a host port. Things I could reasonably see myself wanting to connect: HID devices, storage, and USB->serial cables.
3) Unlocked wifi tethering and wireless access point. It's not something I see a regular use case for, especially since I have a standalone USB cellmodem, but there have been times where it would have been nice. And it's bad enough that Sprint's milking me for an extra $10/month for the privilege of having a 4G capable phone. I'm not about to spend an extra $30 to pay them to unlock it for me.
4) 4G/WiMAX. Not that Sprint has any 4G towers up around me yet. *grumble* one of the store reps I talked to a while back said they'd been told by Sprint that *hopefully* we'll have some towers by the end of the year. But not to quote them on that.
5) HDMI out. This is one of those things I'd rarely use, but it'd be nice. The current firmware only supports HDMI for certain apps (slideshows, movies on the SD card, youtube) and that's okay. It'd be nice to just send all video to the HDMI port instead of (or in addition to) the LCD, but I'd be happy with what I've already got.
I know Cyanogen doesn't (yet) support 4G and HDMI and it doesn't have the Sense UI (which I'm not sure why I should care about) but if it's a good fit for the other three points, that might be a fair deal.
So, what do you all think? Is CyanogenMod a reasonable fit for me? Can you suggest anything that might fit better?
Thanks.
Personally I keep a known good nandroid backup of the stock firmware with all my applications and settings intact and a known good copy of Cyanogenmod with my stuff.
I can't bring myself to keep using the stock Evo firmware due to the bugs in the media layer (audio files restarting from the beginning whenever I pause them and leave the audio player application for an extent of time is a huge problem when most of the media you listen to are long format podcasts, oh and Last.fm can't play a song all the way through without jumping to the next one). On the other hand I do have decent 4G coverage here in the Twin Cities area which I can't utilize while using Cyanogenmod.
You may want to look into doing the same. When you need 4G or HDMI out you can load up a nandroid backup of the stock firmware and otherwise use something like Cyanogenmod. That way you have access to all the capabilities of the phone (although admittedly not in a convenient way).

[Q] No WWAN Antenna on some models?

Is it possible that not all Tablets have the internal UMTS Cables? I wanted to install a UMTS Card in my Tablet but i cant see any cables for the antennas.. I have the sim card slot and the pcie slot but no cabels... are they some kind of hidden under the board, so i have to remove it first?
thanks for help!
edit: i looked inside the FRU Part list and there is no WWAN Antenna set listed... i looked again inside my tablet and there is also no antenna. as the service manual tolds me, the antenna is sold with the core-board, so as i see this the antenna was removed from my tablet. the question is why? Does Lenovo remove the antennas from some models???
edit2: According to http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/3G-upgradable/m-p/683969#M11403 some models does not have the wwan installed -.-
edit3: called lenvo, who told me to contact local service partner, called them as well and explained, they told me that every model is upgradeable and they will send this issue to their techincans, may they can send me a replacement antenna.. really weird. anyone has information about that?
edit4: Got a response from the service team: They told me that every model is upgradeable, but that means for some models that the complete board need to replaced (in fact its only adding the missing antenna but as there is only one FRU for both you need to do that (and yes they ask lenovo about that too and got this answer!))
So if anyone with a tablet that misses the antenna, good look to find another board with antenne to replace
