Counter for text / MMS / Data / Call usage? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi guys, recently I picked up the O2 UK Trion aka Hermes. On the whole I am quite pleased, however I'm missing one very essential application (which I've got used to on my previous Sony Ericsson K800). Namely, the ability to monitor how many text and picture messages are sent, how much data is being trafficked, and how much outgoing call usage has been made. The beauty of my previous phone is that I could reset the counters each month, when my bill had come through and my monthly allowance was re-started.
Does anything like this exist for this phone? Is it built in or does it require separate software installed?
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated as at the moment trying to remain frugal in my use of this phone is going to be difficult if I can't monitor how much of each type of communication has been happening each month.

Anyone want to help me out here? Even just an opinion would be nice...

DKToday will sit on your home screen and show your call times for the month, the day and how many SMS you've sent, and reset automaticly each month.
SPB GPRS Monitor will monitor your data connection for you.

Ikarus's battery status will do just about everything you need it to, its a great app and its one of my personal favs that i cant live without..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751
and please be patient... most of us dont live here so it may take some time to get an answer..

Thanks guys, sorry if I seemed impatient, it was just really bugging me.
Gonna try out the Battery Status plugin, looks like it will do the job.

devloper and hacker app of the year.. chat style sms... from the treo 750v

This app will be for all wm devices.
This is an ongoing project that is in need of some of you guys expertise. The rom of the treo 750v has been dumped and is in need of hacker and developers. The treo 750v has features that NO OTHER wm device does. Like the threaded sms messaging, which is sms in a chat style form.
http://www.palm.com/sg/products/smar...messaging.html is a little more about how it works and what it does.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279758 is a thread in the xda-treo forum, but I feel need to be here due to the fact that it will be for all wm devices and is in need of developers and hackers.
Attached is the rom dump.
Thanks, Cody
in many countries you pay pr. sms much more then you'd pay to send text over grps so for most ppl msn, skype or other IM clients would do the same thing only much cheaper
I am really not sure what the hype is about. Haven't used SMS in a long time a with 100MB data package, I have to agree with Rudegar even the built in MSN messenger is better.
Any way I thought you should know that what you posted is not a ROM dump and cannot be used to extract the app.
Interesting you say that. If you have kids sms messaging is almost a requirement. It is extremely popular with the younger generation. I find myself using it more and more. I have friends that send over 3k sms messages in a month. A threaded sms app sure makes it a much better experience.
The rom dump thread was moved by someone over to the treo section for those wondering where it went. The dump is on the ftp server.
ftp.xda-developers.com
userid: xdaupload pw: xda
file: treo750vrompartial_bcaslis.zip (dump of Part00, Part01 and Part02 partitions)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279758
I played with the rom dump yesterday. The messaging app does load, just seems to be missing some resources and/or registry entries that I'm not prepared to import right now (test machines all being used already).
It also appears to be fixed at 240x240, although that can probably be fixed later.
The rest of the rom - doesn't contain many intersting .exes, but I know hannip is interested in a number of the other devices and drivers installed. They don't appear to be device specific (c.f. many eten files are).
In the UK, data contracts are very expensive, and you get loads of SMS bundled in your contracts, so SMS makes sense. I don't IM from my phones. But both have their uses.
But I still can't see the fascination with threaded SMS. It'd be quite straight forward to program even if the treo app can't be sucked out.
V
PS Whoever dumped the roms to begin with, many thanks!
However, we may need to get an overview of the databases on the device as well, in case there are any custom databases. The speed dial plugin that has thus far been elusive relies on a call db. Either a device backup (using sprite etc) or a database dump would be useful to check. Just a guess, might lead to nothing.
Thanks vijay for all of your assistance! Good to hear that the sms app loads. I've been trying to get the a2dp dll's to work on my treo 700wx and 700w devices just to get my feet wet. Having some issues getting the dll's to load, but with your help I might figure this out yet.
The excitement for the 750 sms app over the other threaded sms apps out there is the clean integration with the os and today screen. I've tried other sms threader apps and they are buggy, don't grab messages when the pda is suspended, and leave copies of sms messages in poutlook. The one from triangle powers is a .net app and loads extremely slow because of it. It is expected that the palm written app will solve all of these problems. Plus it handles mms pictues, audio etc.
i dont say i dont use sms i just say i use sms as sms's as in short message service msg's
not as chat because i dont see the point of using it as chat
of cause if you dont pay pr. each sms
and want to chat with somebody who dont have msn it's usefull i guess
but another issue is the delay if that person is on a different network then you heard that compeating phone companys are not always too snappy to route to eachother

Well, I'm someone who wants the SMS chat program badly.
Understand, it's not so much that you use like an IM program, you don't.
This is just a method by which to organize your SMS conversations e.g. say you and your friend over the day send back and forth to each other 20 messages, all releated to the same thing. Now throw in 15 more random SMS from other peopel in the same day. Your inbox would be a mismash of 20 something messages (assuming you don't delete every single one, maybe there is important info you need).
This program would "group" your SMS into a single "chat style thread", like and IM history would. You can then just delete the entire thread at once when you are done with it. It's also nice to keep that previous information handy, especially if your discussing plans, information, phone numbers etc. You just scroll up to find it again.
If you're a heavy texter, this is a great way to organize your back-and-forth conversations. It's not an IM replacment, so don't think of it as that.
In my case I use it as a compliment to AIM. I have AIM forwarding all of my IM's to my cell phone when I am away. That way my friends and family can msgs me anytime anywhere. My phone/pda can remain in suspend mode conserving the battery and I still get my IM's. I can reply to them just like an IM session. No need for the AIM client on my phone.
The best thing about using sms over an IM client is that you can communicate with anyone that has a cell phone. You don't have to tell someone to register with an IM server to send them messages. It works in suspend mode. With a nice sms chat app the only advantage an IM client has over it is the messages are more instantaneous. But for phone use that is acceptable imo.
Of course this all assumes you don't have to pay on a per sms basis.
Hi! theloanranger said he extracted the 750v threaded app already. It's at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1035112&posted=1#post1035112
Can somebody try it and post the screenshots please? I'm so looking forward to using it with my Pocket Loox T830 (not arrived yet)

NOTE: Some of us are having issues. We CANNOT send an SMS to an email address. We get an error message:
"Could not send message. The message center number or the email center number is invalid. Please contact the wireless operator."
Now, in the SMS app, if you go to Menu --> Options --> Advanced tab
Network Configuration/Manual/Edit...
You'll see spots for "message center number" and "email center number" and both are blank. When you put in a number (such as found here: http://www.smsfre.com/SMS-Mesaging-Centers.htm ) they do not stick after hitting "OK".
Any help/ideas?

SMS Counter for Pocket PC?

Does anyone know of a simple sms counter for Pocket PC. I have been googling for a while an all I can find is Efficasoft SMS Counter for Smartphone. I just don't want to get caught going way over my texting plan limit. I'm not looking for a complicated sms app that has all kinds of bells and whistles, just a simple sms counter. Any help would be appreciated.
Will this do?
http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_iM_cs.htm
Please note that this program has many additional features, but will also keep track of your calls, SMS, data transfers, etc etc.
Pretty good in my opinion

Isn't LCMinutes good for you ?
Basically LCMinutes is an application that keeps track of phone calls and text messages (SMS), calculates their charge based on user defined rate plan, and thus keep user informed of the up-to-date balance information: like current charges, used free minutes, used free messages, expire date for prepaid plans, etc.

Sorry, I should have searched here first! Sorry to waste your time! Thanks for the quick replies!!!
Efficasoft smartphone sms counter works on pocket pc and seems to be the most accurate for recording every sms sent. I would like it to put an icon and total on the today screen, but it doesn't have that feature. I have assigned it to the 2nd press of my internet explorer button and this works well. You set how many free texts you get per month and it keeps a running total and % remaining
I found battery status didn't pick up every sent text, so the total was very inaccurate
LC minutes looked messy in my opinion
Hope this helps

newbie user - not impressed

Okay, so I've been lurking for ages and trying to make my mind up between the Xperia and the touch HD. I got fed up waiting and went for the Xperia (free with unlimited internet £35/month) from Carphonewarehouse.
My initial impressions were:
-lovely screen
-keyboard useable (better than on-screen versions on touch HD & iPhone)
-SLLLOOOWWWWW touchflo3D
BUT, since then I have noticed appalling reception at home (I used to have an XDA atom which had far superior reception)
I have also noticed that the sony ericsson writing on the front of the phone is falling off (I've had the phone 5 days)
I can't receive 3G - I'm probably doing something wrong here!
I can't send emails (I'm on O2 and trying to send emails using my lineone.net account, now part of tiscali) - I've tried every permutation I can think of but to no avail!
Sorry for the multiple groans/incompetences but if anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful as the phone has such potential, its just not as amazing as I'd hoped for..........
Oh, one positive note today, I installed the SPB mobile shell which is superb - super quick and really easy to use with fingers not stylus!!!
about reception of 3g then if you see a 3g or h in your reception bar you recieve it some
operators require special sim for devices to recieve it though
about mails there there seem to be a bug with imap in some versions of wm
and not all phohe companys have the correct ports open to alow normal imap and pop3 and smtp mail
and about touchflo3D being slow then if you use both panels and touchflo3D which is not native to the x1 the 2 compeating ui interfaces is bound to take it's toll on the power of the hardware and the memory in the phone
First, TF3d is not build for X1 and you should not expect much from it.
Second, you should try some cooked roms (e.g. mine or itje) in the rom sections and you should found they runs a LOT faster than stock.
Thanks
Rudegar,
Thanks for the prompt response. I got sent a new 3G sim today but it still doesnt work - I'll phone CPW again tomorrow when their O2 helpline opens.
Jack,
Yes, I've seen the cooked ROMs but was a little apprehensive to run them for fear of bricking my Xperia. For now I'm sticking with the mobile shell interface which suits my needs (near) perfectly.

You should set your outgoing mail server to smtp.o2.co.uk
yep, tried that first - no joy!
Thanks for advice though.
tflo3d works flawlessy, check what you have installed

Incoming SMS Msg Show wrong time stamp

I got my phone and am quite happy with it so far. I am on the Rogers network in Canada. Everything works great except that incoming msg are showing up 5 hours behind on the time stamp which throws off my sms threads as my msg time stamp correct on the way out.
So if I sent a msg at 9PM and they reply it shows there reply the same day but at 4PM of the same day? Any ideas why this is happening? It's happening from any number I get a txt from.
Thanks
Anyone having this issue or is it just me? I know this has been an issue in the past on various WM units but I'm not sure what the fix is with 6.5?
Anyone help please?
Hi.
Not sure how this connects to your problem, but usually (always) when i send text messages everything is datestamped correctly.
But when I use Phonelog to log my calls to calendar it is 5 hours off.
I have been bugging the developer for years now. But I am the only one who this happens too.
sad face.
My timestamps are exactly 5 hours behind. What developer are you trying to reach? What do you think the issue is? I think it must be a WM 6.5 issue or an network time issue? I've read about this before with other devices, just not 6.5 devices yet.
Anyone?
I'll do some more google research.
This app.
Every update he makes it still is 5 hours off.
Maybe u could give this app a try.
Great app. Barely works when it;s 5 hours off every time...
http://www.infinityball.com/phonelog
Somewhere there is a post on his site with me asking him to fix it.
It would be cool if there was a solution for all of us.
No other app does the funky time stamping...
Maybe this link will help you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=527587
i dont have timezone diff but i got this issue
1st sms (i send him) my time show 12.00
2nd sms (his replY) his time show 11.50 on my mobile
mea his sms is infront of my sms as i only can sort by time or by name
end up if i sort the thread by using "sort by time" the whole thread went message..
as u know which is my send sms with his sms reply
no fix for this?
Got a friend from Starhub who had this issue on his Treo Pro. I'm not certain if the fault lies with Starhub or WM!
cannot be network as this is very standard.....
sms time stamp should use mobile owner time as timestamp..
i dont have this issue when i use on htc diamond

Hey, I have the exact problem, I am also using Rogers, and I also got the 5 hrs off. That makes all the msg received on the top.
Hope someone could help.
try this
it may work
Usually...
More often than not, SMS time stamping issues are something to do with the network provider BUT sometimes, it can be how the phone's SMS software is talking to the network provider.
I had a Nokia N96 be +6hrs out while a Samsung with exactly the same SIM card in it and thus on exactly the same network/account setup etc, the time stamping was perfectly correct.
I updated the ROM on the Nokia to a newer version and the time stamping was perfect again.
I highly recommend anyone experiencing SMS time stamping issues to apply the HTC SMS hotfix that became available in the past few days.
i applied the latest HTC sms hotfix but it dont work for me..
already email HTC to see they have any suggestion a not.
my friend clock is faster/slower than my by few min but it euff to mass up the whole chat as u dunno which is your ans with his reply... (to what i know is basic on friend mobile clock not the network as i tested with 2 mobile)
but it actually shouldn't work in this way as it should basic on our clock to go
i had email to HTC and herre is their reply (i havent try yet.. later than try)
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With regards to your query, please be advised to try:
1) Go from settings->menu->all settings->connections->connection setup->select country and operator->ok to reconfigurate the SIM card service
2) press call key->menu->options->band->select the network connection type and GSM/UTMS mode according to the network provider's settings
If still no avail, we are quite sorry that you will have to backup all the personal data you have on your device though synchronisation or backup tool and perform a hard reset to re-install the whole system for your phone.
After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings-the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain
To perform hard reset,
setttings->menu->(all)settings->system tab->clear storage
Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
We look forward to be of service to you again.

im also on Rogers with the HD2 but i found a fix for this.
I was having my SMS come in with -5 hours on them as well, but after applying this registry change everything is working out (You also need to Soft Reset before the changes kick in)
Just edit the registry and set the value to 0
HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\TrustTimeZoneField = 0x00000000(0)
Sorry i cant find the original thread where I got this fix, so dont account me for the credit!

Talking to HTC support by e-mail is like talking to babies or monkeys. I recently tried to report 3 bugs, the answer I got back was ridiculous, the support person obviously was not able to read, only giving one-line answers, that were totally beside the point. Replying did not make it better. Maybe they are using children in the countryside in China posting random standardized answers.
I have since sold my HD2 because without reliable SMS I cannot conduct business, and a company that are so incompentent that you cannot even file bug reports is not worth any of your money.
Also, the description to the SMS "fix" that has been published on their website, completely ignoring to tell what problems it fixes, makes me think they have employed some pretty incompetent people. Any company with the slightest bit of self respect knows that when they issue a patch of fix, they must tell what was wrong and what it fixes.
i dont have -5hr but the timestamp which send by friend is not match with me.. it seen like all reply sms from frienz are using their mobile timestamp rather than my...
