Hi, is it possible to use the wifi connection on the phone to provide internet for a laptop or pc through the USB cable? Or does it have to be through bluetooth?
I don't get you... You wanna use "wifi connection on the phone to provide internet for a laptop or PC through USB cable?"
I think what you mean is whether it is possible to use the PDA as a modem to connect to the internet?
Yes it is. Please do a search for this as it has been asked over and over again.
1 + 2 = next question please
@benjdc
Yo, skip the WIKI, the SEARCH, the internet, ...freakin skipp it all and read your flippin MANUAL!
I think the question is, how to share an existing gprs/edge/3G connection on the pda with the pc and be able to browse simultaneously. Both on the pda and pc

Yes you can.
what i mean is, and i have searched multiple times, connect to a LAN using the wifi on the pda, to then share this connection down a usb cable to my non-wifi pc. I can use my gprs/3g, but this can costly/slow. seeing as im already paying for my broadband, i may as well use it. any polite responses greatly recieved...
whattayouknow??
this is exactly what i searched for and was the first post to browse..
i have a nice laptop but no wireless card
i can pick up my wifi connection through my hermes, but can i internet share via usb so my laptop can pick up the wifi connection?
if anyone wants to chime in, cool!
ill keep lookin an check back to see

please help kind sirs. I am at a hotel in atlantic city and they have cable modems in the rooms but no wifi. I need to connect to the internet very badly with my laptop but I do not have an ethernet cord. I only have my laptop which has bluetooth and my 8125. is there any way to use my phone's connectivity to get on the internet? I have a usb cable as well. concierge does not have a ethernet cable downstairs.
yes, it is possible. USB is easier than bluetooth. Simply connect the computer and phone via usb and run the program "Modem Link" on the phone ( I am assuming you have this, it came standard on my phone, if you don't still have it let me know and I can tell you how to do bluetooth) Once the program is active, enter the server you connect to for GPRS (on t-mobile, I use internet2.voicestream.com), click activate, and you should hopefully be online... Let me know if it works or you need more help!
hi and thank u so much for the reply. I did as u said but when I connect and activate the modem link... it asks for a serial modem driver on my laptop. please help.
can u please tell me how to do it via bluetooth. thank you.
To do it via bluetooth you need to pair the phone with the laptop. you then need to use the dialup networking (DUN) service. This sets the phone up as a modem. you should get a dialogue on the computer that asks for the phone number to enter. Use *99# to access the internet via the phones GPRS. Sorry that this is rather vague, but I have only done this onece and it was a while ago. I believe that using the USB, if you simply keep hitting next windows will install it as a default generic serial modem, the driver for which should be included with windows, and this should work fine. If you have any more questions please let me know, I hope this helps...
holy smokes it worked!!! thank u so much. though the connection is slow... it works for sure with bluetooth. thank u again truly!
Hi,
This might be a silly question, but I was just wondering if it is possible to use the internet connection on a PC if the hermes was connected to it via USB?
I dont have wifi and my PC connects directly to the internet, is there anyway the Hermes can access this connection?
J'
Right now I am using my ATT8525 as my modem.
It took me a long time to get it but I'm still not sure how I excatly what settings I did.
One thing is ""Internet Sharing"
Find that and setup for USB and then connect. Your computer might see the connection and go from there.
Wish I could help more...
It should work automatically when your Tytn is connected via ActiveSync and your desktop computer has internet. No further configuration should be necessary on default. Just open the Tytn's IE and try it out ...
Oh my bad... I got the question backwards

First of all you haven't mentioned clearly how ADSL is connected to your PC, so it will be difficult to precisely give you the answer. Anyway following is a general outline which may help you.
You can, if
your PC's ADSL has inbuilt WiFi & is configured accordingly or ADSL connected to WiFi & then to PC through cable or WiFi ...and on Trinity you simply have to turn on the WiFi from CommManager & it will be connected ( not to forget that if there is security key on PC's end then you'll have to enter on your trinity side as well)
Dear all,
I have a HTC Hero and recently installed Android 2.1 ROM by Paul. In the USB connection type settings, There are 4 choices: charge only, HTC sync, disk drive, Internet sharing.
I want to connect my phone to my PC by a USB cable to surf the Internet. However, I found it only works when I connect using the Internet sharing mode. Only in this mode can I find a device usb0 on my PC(ArchLinux). By lsusb -v, I found the phone is regarded as a storage device in charge and sync mode, and an Ethernet sharing device in Internet sharing mode.
So my question is, what does Internet sharing do? Is there a method to similar work based on the charge mode so it doesn't bother opening up the mobile network? Because I don't need a mobile network at all. I just want the device usb0 appear on my PC.
Thanks a lot~
Im a bit confused here..
Do you want to use your phones 3g connected by usb to surf the internet on your computer?
Or as your post suggests do you actually want to surf the internet on your phone using a usb connection to your computers connection?
Oh, I don't have 3G at all...I want to surf the Internet on my phone through my computer via USB.
Actually after a night's work the problem has been solved. The main part of it is to do a usb_function_switch to wake up usb0. However, I still don't quite know the inner mechanism of it. If who'd explain a little more detailedly, I'd rather appreciate that.

Hello
I have some problem and I need your help.
PC WinXp is connected to Internet via cable modem.
Now I want to make access to Internet via Wi-Fi (AD-HOC) from PC for HD2 device.
I manage to connect and browse Internet with other laptop via PC connected to cable modem – internet. HD2 is showing connected to SSID but Internet doesn’t work.
Internet access via ActiveSync and USB cable is working perfectly but via Wi-Fi doesn’t
Further is for HD2 Android..I really want to access internet via AD-HOC.
After many hours browsing various forums I couldn’t find any good working solution.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Regards and Best wishes!

Well wireless adapters have to both send and receive so pretty much all computers with a wireless adapter can transmit.
Don't quite understand the question though, are you trying to set up your pc as an access point so you can access the internet on your hd2 by it going through your pc?
