Mrvanx upgrade guide down? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have been trying to get to it all morning and it is down for some reason. Anyone know the deal?

Why don't you PM him and ask!
Far better than starting a whole new thread....

I beleive he is kind of tied up in non-xda related real world stuff for a week or two, and so may not be checking his pms as often as he would normally.

Can this forum limit the ability to create a new thread?.... Asking a dumb question on any thread without searching is bad... Opening a new thread for every new question is worse.

If it cannot be accessed, try some other time.... or maybe it is sign for you to read other things first, like the wiki...

It's a forum for crying out loud, and the topic is related to Hermes Mobile 6. You guys are surprisingly *****y.
Although I do admit the question is unnecessary.

I agree this is what forums are for. Just cos youve been here for a while and know the members doesnt mean everyone does.

I search that guide too, please provide a link.
(it's totally unnecessary to complain about this new topic, it doesn't add any valuable information. Help the topic starter or don't answer at all)

Because this is a development thread. Where people develope programs and provide assistance on them. Its not the yellow pages. No one here works for you. We are not your secrateries. New threads like this clog up the forum and make it difficult for those of us who use search. Take some time to read the forum rules.
Here is the hint. Top of this page to the right is a "Search" button. Its just below your name. Use it to search the contents of your original subject line of this thread. If you can copy/paste the http address of your search result to prove to me you did your due dilegents, but still cant find your answer, I will help you learn how to use search properly so you don't continue to post new threads. But at this point I don't think you have used more than 2 minutes of your time searching on your own.

Wow, never before have I seen such "jerk" behavior at xda deverlopers. I know the person should have searched and I'm not discounting that fact, but there is NO reason to jump down someone's throat with that tone. Sorry, I'm a Japanese and I ever saw how much loathing and hatred went into your post. Next time, please do more courteous behavior... if not, I hate to think of how people will treat you.

The reason people tell you to search is because this site, like any other activity has rules. One of them is to READ and SEARCH to find the answers yourself before you post a question that has been answered in numerous other locations. While some people may be overly aggressive in their suggestion that you use the search function, it does not make their point any less valid. There are a lot of people on this site, and all of them are volunteers. Nobody gets paid to be here. When you decide that you're gonna clutter the forum with threads and posts that have already been answered very thoroughly in easily searchable locations then it just makes it more difficult for people who actually do know how to use the site properly to find anything. So in the future, if you have an interesting idea (which you did) then do some looking to see if maybe somebody else had that same idea and post your thoughts there. That way everyone who is interested in that idea can go to one place to follow any development that happens there. Otherwise you are basically saying to all the people who put a lot of time in here, that you think your time is more valuable than their's. Which puts us in this perpetual cycle of people who don't know anything complaining because the people who do know the answers want them to learn how to find the answers rather than just giving them the answer.

Search the entire forum. In fact google the interenet for the question I posted in that thread. It is no where to be found. And it was a development idea posted in a development thread after all that searching had been done. Your not comparing apples to apples. In fact there is no comparable comparison.
Anybody got an answer to that thread let me know b/c it still hasn't been solved!!!! LMFAO!!

I was less of a dip**** and it continued to happen. At least this is getting some attention that may make a noticable difference of noob's continuing down the same old path of ask questions first, search as a last result.
It would be great if the Moderators would put a sticky at the bottom of the sticky posts for this forum titled "How to Use Search before you post a New Thread" since noob's aren't even taking the time to read the forum rules. While their at it make the title of the sticky thread alway stay BOLD even if no new posts are made in it.
Hey Mods!!!! What do you think of that idea???

NEW USERS!

We've got a lot of new users appear on here lately, it looks like in search of updated roms for the x1.
PLEASE IF YOU ARE NEW TO THIS THEN DO NOT FLASH A ROM
without
A) reading
B) reading some more
C) reading even more!
All the roms should come through the SE Update Service, please use that as it is a simpler method and if something goes wrong, then you can go to SE to complain..
Please use the search if you have a problem, if you don't find what you want the first time, then search again, maybe try searching around the subject.
There's a very very good chance that the question has already been answered several times!
If you can't find the answer then flick through the older pages on the thread, if it's something to do with the operation of the X1 then there's a good chance it's in the oldest pages of the forum.
Experienced members get upset by people starting new threads with the same moans or questions because it really clogs up the great search system with all manner of wasted threads. If there's an existing thread than use that please! If the questions already been asked don't ask it again!
This forum is not a SE support forum, no-one (that will admit to it anyway) is from SE so if you have issues with them why not raise it with them?
If you want to know how you X1 does various stuff try one of the operators online guides.
If you flash a custom rom or another rom obtained from here, despite being warned not too. DO NOT go running off to MS or SE complaining that it's all gone wrong, they
A) won't likely listen
B)won't like us very much
Ta.
You should keep this on the very first ROMS subforum page fards
I know It's already written everywhere... old problem... but many people falls in parachute here, landing directly inside the ROMs post from external links. XDA DEVS is da bomb
And no newbies seem to read anything but exclusively what they are looking for

Hmmm...a rather sweeping generalisation methinks...
I'm a noob here, I'll admit that. However, I'm a board Admin elsewhere in cyberspace so I know exactly where you're coming from. I've done my time reading, understanding, occasionally asking relevant questions in the relevant places, and trying to help out where I might have some answers.
Your advice is spot on, and anyone who is inexperienced should tread slowly and carefully. There is all the time in the world to learn how to get it right, but it takes very little time to totally stuff things up.
"Use the search, Luke"
Instead of telling new guys to read, you could've put the same effort into and making a nice thread for them instead.
Maybe a list on where to start reading and so on!
This thread has no meaning whatsoever. New guys will probably just read first lines skip it and ask a question.
And remember we have all been there, not knowing how to flash etc.
Also searching can be a very time consuming thing to do, and asking and getting an answer is often way faster.
this thread doesnt make sense without any links to where to read...
This forum is where you read. it is a development forum, not a help forum!
you read the first thread that the moderators try to get EVERY NEW USER to read, this was a gentle reminder to get people to do just that.
People are not here to act as customer service for people who are too lazy to use the search facility on this site.

Yea that is true. I was searching PIE6 and i ran across about 13-14 threads of the same question. i was on like page 3 or 4 of the search before i got the right hit.
maybe xda-newbies.com should be registered as a none development and referance site? lol

How about a period of not being able to post when registering ?, a day or three would give new members with their questions a little time to cool down and search/read for the answers which will usually be found here somewhere.
Just an idea.

I actually think that's not a bad idea, was just suggesting it to a couple of other members. Only drawback I think is that it couldn't be restricted to one sub forum such as the x1 from my experiences with vbulletin..
So it would restrict some of the truly amazing first posts that have come from some of the great genii?? on this site..
Alternatively we could have another Sub-forum, in the X1, with for newbies to ask the same questions of each other (like a creche) and anyone found straying outside of that forum until they've learnt to search and read would get electrocuted.. or something..
you mean, something like asking a question about an advanced feature, if you have it right then you're allowed to the real forums?
Well to be honest, the only thing a noob should read are the stickies. I learned to flash, edit, modify, type, behave, proof read, error correction, ask nicely, say please thank you cookie i love you, by reading those stickies.
Actually I think it's a good idea to have a sub-forum for the newbies, and then bomb them with the 'READ THE F-WORD STICKIES OR DIE' *going too far here...
Search ?? No thanks

But to search efficient you have to know what to search for, the keywords are important in a search engine. And when you're a newbie those terms might not be known to you. Or you might not understand a lot of them.
And beeing sarcastic about my comment is not helping anyone that is just pure immature.

Lets face it. Most people that come here with questions like "how can I flash my ROM?" just didn't bother to look. And trust me, there's plenty.
The bothersome thing is not that people ask questions, that's normal in a developer environment. What does bother me, and most - if not all - others is that they ask questions they can answer themselves by putting just a wee bit of time into it. Instead, they had rather have other people spend time doing everything for them. I can see where this attitude comes from - it's easier, but you get my point.

Not knowing or being too lazy to be independent enough to search is the real immaturity.

newbie alert!!!

Sorry if this is a stupid question guys, but I've just bought a HD2 with the energy rom already on it, what is this and why is it better than the standard rom?
Hi,
You have 100% right - it is stupid question.
ROM - It's another name for operating system with drivers and settings, its a compilation.
Why You use Win XP on Your desktop instead of Windows 3.11 ?
! Because it's better, it's faster, more intuitive, more stable, it's.....
Each ROM is developed for some reason - somebody fix something or change few things.
In my case HTC gives a sh_ _ on me with ROM updates for my region / country - Only thing to do was to flash unofficial ROM.
Read, then ask question.
wow, thats the way to make a neebie welcome. I know you guys want people to read and search more before posting but come on... Im glad not everone is like that.
I also have a couple of newbie questions but ill post in about 6 months after ive read every single post on the site to make sure no one hs asked the question before.

Don't make a evil daemon from me , I start with joke , then gently tell what is what and why with ROM, and on the end give a good advice to search and read before asking.

dont worry bout him mate u always get some gimp know it all like him on here theres lots of helpful people on here 2
perhaps I should've worded it better, I've haven't had a standard hd2 as it was like this when I bought it, but I meant what is different on the energy rom to standard? also is there asetting to lock the keypad when I press the bottom left phone button? mine just turns the screen off but all you have to do is repress it and your back on, I've already called someone in my pocket

The reason regulars are like that is it wastes everyone's time when you ask the same questions over and over.
It wastes the noob's time typing the message when a simple search up the top can answer it in a few clicks.
It wastes the noob's and the regular's time by making them sift through pages of redundant threads rather than having new original issues - if a noob has an original issue, it may take ages for someone to find it to answer, thats if they manage to find it at all.
A lot of noobs tend to ask the redundant question without searching, then when the thread moves through several pages, they bump it with a "no one going to help!?!" reply. This would move it above an issue that may well have a higher importance, yet it would have been quicker for them to search than to trawl through and find their thread to reply to.
If noobs did more searching, we wouldn't have to keep explaining the reasons why we ask noobs to search every time they don't.

Having said the above, let's pretend a newbie have joined the forum today and have asked a question that may have been asked and solved already or better yet asked something that a no brainer can do.
Does that make it annoying for "regulars" already? Your explanation sounds more like you are saying that "regulars" are obligated to answer questions from a noob, yet it is not.

That sticky serves as guide to a do a search, because not all users know how to use search.
My point is, you and the rest of the so called "regulars" act like they have the right to harass or treat newbies like they did have no education at all.
It doesn't mean you see "newbie or junior member" then they should be treated this way.
There's another way of saying things like "Hey man, try searching the forum by using this" instead of "make sure you DO its extremely annoying for the regulars on this site to keep seeing the same noob questions asked over and over again."

The reason it takes a long time to search is because noobs DONT search and post the same questions over and over. Its an endless circle of death.

you see... that is my point
im not insulting you intentionally... just telling you how you come across to me... but you have taken it as an insult :-(
Just to re-iterate... my original post here (ie/ telling the noobs to use search) was not intended as any kind of harassment... just a solid nudge in the direction of the search function.

"Great to see that there is another side of yourself".. after all.
and oh yeah, there is a nicer way to put it instead of the "a solid nudge in the direction of the search function". In case you do not know, feel free to ask me.

3G and H signal not as good since updating to VillainROM 3.4!

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone else is having this problem.
But i can not seem to keep a H Signal for very long before it keeps going back to 3G.
and it has only started happening since installing VillainROM 3.4!.
When i am on the net it works fine, but when i am not active for about 10seconds is drops connection..
and this is a real problem when i am using Soccer Centre and i have to come out the program and back in for it to active H again..
Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks
Marc

I felt it did - cause i did not want it getting lost in the
7,417 Post and 792,965 Views of the other topic...
Works perfect for me
Flash the latest radio (my sig) if you have not already got it.
If you do then reflash it
@Redpizzi
Please do NOT start new threads with Villain issues. PLEASE use the Villain thread.
Regarding to your issue, flash the latest radio again like Lenny said.
Thanks Lennyuk, will try that...i have the latest rom, but will re-install it..
Like i am sat here and the icon is 3G - but when i load up internet or market then it changes to H, then if i leave it for a few mins it goes back to 3g....i thought i might have been a battery saving thing in the rom or in the 2.1 FW....
Thanks again
And Phanes / ermacwins. i got that answer i needed, and now other people dont have to look though 700 pages of posts to find the same answer if they have that problem.
So sorry if you dont like it but it is how i have done thing in forums for 20 years...
@Redpizzi
... didn´t know that there where forums and INTERNET in 1990 ...
I don´t think I want to give you a hand in the future ...

awesome, continue like that and ppl who are actually interested in DEVELOPING will have to go through 700 threads of noob mistakes before they find something interesting. and no, there was no internet 20 years ago. if you had at least 20 days of forum experience you might have learned to post in the correct section...
Forums - are not just related to the internet -forums have been around for a long time people.
Phanes you never gave me a hand anyway...
I asked for some help and i got the help i asked for. Fine i should not have but VillainROM in the Thread - but when i posted in the Villain thread before about another problem it never got answered.
Job is a good one, just dont need people ermacwins/Phanes and the **** kendong2 trying to noob bash.
I dont give a **** how many posts you have done, i have been here since 2005 and help when i can no matter where the ****ing post is....
The main man Lennyuk gave me am answer and i will try that. if that does not work, then please just direct me to the right place, DONT start giving me **** for it.
END OF CURRENT THREAD - DELETE IF YOU WANT...
****ing hate people trying to noob bash.....
so if you are that know-it-all guy that has done it all forever and before everybody else, why is it asked too much that you stick to the rules like everybody else does?
and for the record: you are the only one flaming around here, i for example never called anyone a **** around here.
Yer i was flaming cause i asked for help and instead i got noob bashes trying it on..so dont piss me off again, and drop it.....no more slagging off the topic, will ask for help elsewhere
Now the problem has not been solved, so i am gonna try another rom to see if that has the same problem. i have even parked right next to my local Antenna.....
Thanks again Lennyuk
Well not familiar with forum rules but agree with OP that it's nightmare to browse through all the posts when there are 50+ (most of them repetitive and useless) replies on single day.
and just realised that i added one now.........

well this topic is not repetitive not useless and if it was against the forum rules then i cannot see why..
260 views mean people are interested untill they find out omeone needs help.
tell me about it. Asked something earlier and the same two were right on queue, no help at all, complaining like I just shat in their cereal. There really is no need for that.
Obviously I'm new to these forums, but been around many other forums for years and years, when I read their response I was literally like oh here we go, I guess this is just another one of those elitist forums, full of mod wannabes and keyboard warriors. Thats until helpful people like lenny weighs in and restores some faith.
Let us know how you get on with reflashing the radio Redpizzi, I have this same "problem", I thought thats just how it was since I got the hero not long ago, and the internet was like that before I flashed it with a custom rom as well. Its minor though but would be good to get the best out of the phone.
your thread was moved by a mod and you still don't get it? so you are also resistant to learning?
well, i guess we have to blame your parents, for not raising you right. other kids have learned not to talk in between while adults are talking.
you guys are so annoying, ive never seen such ganging on someone for simply a post, so cut the crap and either tell him wat he wants or not.
I've also had this issue and the latest radio hasnt resolved it either, I'm also having trouble with slow internet and reception cutting and coming back, ive tried all the 2.1 eris and legend roms and found that behero is the one with the least issues but still isnt all that perfect, i still get cut off sometimes and find no reception, so for the wifi aswell.
kendong2 fair enough if its was in the wrong forum, as im new here I thought something customrom related goes here in the development forum.
the mod moved the thread I thought nothing of it, you on the other hand must've thought it was a personal victory for you and thought it was the equivalent of a public spanking lol. Did you somehow think you were secretly pulling the strings by pointing it out?
Is your whole ambition to be a mod on here or something? just to point out where people are posting wrong and try to insult them lol. Just from a few posts I find it hard to believe that you have any friends. I wont be surprised if you're actually some 13 year old who gets bullied everyday at school and trying to get your power trip on the internet. Next thing you know you'll be pointing out spelling mistakes and missed capital letters. Get a life you loser cos this forum is obviously all you have. You really give this forum a bad name. you're on a phone forum but I doubt anyone ever rings your phone.
Just knock it off. It´s really enough now.
Why don´t you accept that WE how we care about those issues want to see the issues posted IN THE THREAD not somewhere else.
It is done for you guys, for those who have issues and not being able to help themselves.
And stop this passive/aggressive game.
fair enough phanes. he started getting personal first so could only return like for like.
but you do have to concede for new users some things on here are not just there in plain sight to be found out. Not just a simple search away. There's a 700 page thread and everything else is in technobabble. Its simple and intuitive for you cos you already know it. Its like telling someone to learn how to do keyhole surgery by just telling them to read a book. Not even a specific book, just "a" book.

yeah right, because it was me calling ppl a "****" around here. read my posts, i point people out where they are wrong, and usually offer help in the very same post. you are complaining that you can not learn if nobody explains it to you, yet when i explain what you did wrong you still complain. seriously dude, it is not that bad to make mistakes, and i never blamed anyone for that (prove me wrong otherwise!), but it is bad if you don't accept that you made a mistake and learn from it. the fact that about ten threads got moved from the dev section to general or q&a in the last week alone is proof enough that everybody is just posting whatever he wants whereever he wants. i don't think i am secretly pulling any strings (actually i don't even know what you are trying to say...?), and it was for sure not a personal victory, all i did was one neutral post about the thread being in the wrong forum. if you can not deal with critics about your behaviour then you shouldn't come to the internet. go to your gazillions of friends, if they support that behaviour. this is a community, and if it is asked too much from you to stick to the most simple, general rules (that apply to ALL forums on the internet btw!) you won't find people to be that helpful. and obviously you need help.
you have contributed absolutely zero so far, except spamming the dev forum and flaming around here, you think you make friends like that? if it wasn't for lenny and his endless patience you'd still be crying like a little baby whose toy is broken...

So i just got my replacement device

The battery was draining really quick in my old one. And i dont wanna make the same mistakes i did. So should i root this one? And whats the best lag fix out there?
Why do you post new threads for every update instead of using your original thread? It clutters up the forum and it's impossible for us to see the history or your problem.

Yeah, not really. Just giving you a tip on getting better help from people by helping them to help you. It doesn't help anybody (you included) when the forum is a cluttered mess. It runs contrary to forum etiquette and, to a lesser degree, forum rules.
Hey, I'm not a mod, though, so do what you want.
Dude. You seriously create a new thread every time you have a thought...
Do you really want to annoy those who you seek help from?
EDIT: Please note I did not try and help... get it?

LOL, I think the point here is well made.
But anyways, I can tell you rooting your phone did not destroy your battery life. Skip the lag fix if your not having any major issues. Or if you feel like you just have to have more speed, flash one of Eugenes great roms he has out.

whos said i needed your help? and i don't annoy anyone. Did i force you to come in my thread? NO! so mind your business and keep it moving
O my God.... you did not create a thread to reply to me?
OP should get an old school flip phone and never touch a computer again.
forum topics shouldnt be treated like twitter posts...
When you do this, it gives the forum a lesser appearance, especially when people come in these to tell you how stupid/ignorant you are for all the needless threads.
How does telling the world you got a new vibrant to fix your battery problems make this forum a better place? Especially when you dont even state what you did to cause said battery problems.
Please consider this before starting a thread. If not, before you know it mods might start restricting rights who gets to open threads which in effect world kill this forum.
Might I also add this is why we have the Search function as well to reduce the amount of topics posted. This allows us to consolidate all of the information into one post rather than having to hunt and peck for information. Please be more considerate to those around you and if you have an added question then request it on the same thread or people will ignore your request for help (i haven't seen anyone with any real help for you here)

Yeah, people that are willfully uncooperative tend to see that reciprocated at some point...

And how are we to help him without any reference points "my battery drains fast" and what is fast? 4 hours - 6 hours 8 hours? What are you doing during this time, is your phone off , are you on a phone call, games? You just cant come onto XDA and scream MOMMY HELP ME with your hand out without giving more information.
