TrueVGA (Ozvga, and others). Themes, phonepad skins, partial success. - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

After searching high and low, and less than honest websites, forums, et al I have finally managed to create proper themes for 640x480 (and by default, 480x640). Apparently it is as easy as taking your favorite VGA theme and changing the DPI from 192 to 96. Brilliant.
So searching further, and now really entering shady sites, there does not seem to be any WM5 (nor 6) proper VGA skins for the phone dialer.
VJbigphone is ok and all, but leaves a lot to be desired. Basilings Dopod 900 hack (the black one with the apple logo) doesnt improve on anything.
Installing a QVGA skin works, but you only cover 25% of the screen with the rest imaging the previous screen.
I have resorted to voice dialling until something shows up and allows a 640x480 skin to be applied.
Is there anyway to get a truevga phoneskin?

Hi Calavaro,
I am switching from M600 - QVGA device to X7500 - VGA and looking for all info I can get... What TrueVGA programm exactly you would recomend. Where to download?
For Dialer Pad check http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=4832
it is in Russian, but you can see screens and links. There are many QVGA, but also VGA nice theams.
Any other ideas on VGA stuff?
Regards,
Di

I use OzVGA (http://oz.sciox.org/) with great success. Its very easy to switch rom 640x480 back to defaut. Im sure that is true for TrueVGA as well, but I found Oz to fit my taste more.
I also use WA2 default skin, it helps with the top bar status icons. The default skin is perfect for my needs.
I also use Pocket Informant 2007. I absolutely dislike the built in contact list. Horrible, and a step back to before WM2002...
I also use Pocketbreeze 5 to fill up the extra today screen space. All thanks to one helpful soul here at the forums. The name eludes me right now.
Other than that I dont use any more specific things for VGA mode.
Thanks for the link, Ill be sure to study it in detail.

Thanks a lot!
On Eten M600 (QVGA) I am using:
Spb pocket plus
Spb Time
Spb Weather
Spb Keyboard
AE Buttons plus
Skype...
Smart Dial (Eten)
Pocket Music Player with custom skin
looks like Spb shell is not working on x7500... You like WA2 better?
This is the thread on WA2 theams:

Not totally not working, only the spb menu on landscape is didn't work.

Soft Keyboard for Athena?

Has anyone played around with SPB's FullScreen Keyboard and the Athena instead of using the hardware keyboard that it comes with?
Would be nice to reduce the "size" of what fits in my pocket....
Thanks in advance.

I played with that on my old PDA which was only 3.5". It did not work very well because the screen is too small for two hand typing. I don't yet have a HTC Anthena/Dopod U1000, but my guess is that it would work perfectly given the larger screen size.

Well I'm using Fitaly and I find that it's a little bit too big for Athena. I need to find a way to reduce the size of Fitaly just by 30%.
Look for Happy tapping keyboard
Happy tapping key board works great. Select the vga bmp's. I find the tiger skin quite nice.
If you're going to install ozVGA or MvRTrueVGA, then as far as I know your only choice is Resco Keyboard. ( edit: tengo does vga too)
If you're going to stay with QVGA, and are looking for full screen keybaord, then apart from SPb, you might want to try Hikeyboard. I like Hikeyboard instead of Spb more. The reasons are:
1) Hikeyboard gives you the solution as non-full screen as well as full screen input.
2) In the full screen mode, you have the ability to see the whole page of what you're typing, whereas with Spb you have to get out of it to reveal the document.
It's just unfortunate that they don't have a VGA version.
I think you may also want to consider Ten-go. I dismissed this initially, but now I think I'm going to look at it seriously. Even if it does not support VGA mode it will still be very useable ( edit: it supports vga mode!) because there are only 6 keys to press. It works very much like the predictive text of your mobile phone when you do SMS. Very fast and very few keystroke.
Anyone have screenshots of a sof tkeyboard on the actual device?

ha ha.. how shall I put it? Lets just say that i'm still using both modes depending in situation. I hve quite bad eyesight so I can't see some icons and fonts.
If u hve 20/20 eyesight, go for the tiny icons and fonts. If i'm reading a large document at home, I put it in front of my face without glasses and use true vga. web browsing is done always with true vga. But if i'm recording golf score the icon in qvga works better for me. In summary, I use both, with the mode toggle program from Mark Vale.
after extensive evaluation, i've found the best soft keyboard - the tengo keyboard. It supports both qvga and vga mode.
Very briefly, you may think of it as a qwert keyboard which does not expect you to be a sharp shooter. you can type in exactly the same way as the default keyboard, but if you miss-type it will stillgive you the word you want.
Check it out at www.free.tengo.net. They have a free version for personal use. I'm using it with mvrtruevga and you can even type with your finger without the stylus fast speed!
There is very very very very low learning curve.

How would you get your Athena to show QVGA?

The Athenas true resolution is QVGA 320x240 stretched to 640x480. This is why everything looks the same (sizewise) on a smaller QVGA device like say the HTC Hermes or HTC Wizrd.
It's not until you use a 3rd party application that you get the True VGA dimensions on your 'so called' VGA device and you get to appreciate all the screen real-estate (if you're the type to have lots of info on your screen, you'll soon see the benefits).
Personally I'm happy now with the Athena's default resolution with WA3 giving me 15 shortcut icons in the bottom system tray.
It's about choice. With a VGA device you have these options, but with smaller QVGA devices, icons would be too small to be useful if one applied the TrueVGA software to it (that's if the app would even work on a small QVGA PPC).
Hope that helps a bit.

- Fix all trueVGA graphical problems. Icons, screens, etc. I would like to run in trueVGA full time without having these types of issues.
- Unlock Extended ROM so people can put their own apps in for the next hard reset. ;-)
- Put the "Tray Display" utility into the ROM so people can show or hide their trays. File name "traydisplayinstall_196.CAB".
- Setup the "BlueTooth Tray Status & BT Audio Util" on the ROM. File name "btIO-0.5.CAB".
- Maybe the functionality to add/remove program icons from the tray without having to modify the registry? ;-)
- All black VGA theme. Similar to the default WM6 theme but all black.
- If possible, maybe an updated version of Pirazu so we can control a mouse cursor with the joystick?
- Alternative to BlueMouse so we can use a BT mouse cursor on the device. BlueMouse is nice but it costs.
Make it work like "Touch" may be the looks....

Yes...how did I forget this. For sure trying to tie the vueFlo into other apps and possibly games, etc.

For me, these first five would be a darn good start.
- With #1 - Usable dialer in TrueVGA would be #1 on my list.
Couple more (may already be fixed in WM6, but have yet to plunge):
- WiFi On/Off is flaky unless you actually go into the Comm Manager (e.g., PhoneAlarm and other programs are not effective)
- I still have problems doing multiple mappings to Win and OK buttons. AEBPlus does this kinda, but then other buttons get mucked up. Given few number of buttons, this is really limiting.
Wish list:
- USB-powered Beer Tap. I know the low-power port might be an issue, but I'm sure this should be doable. Integration with MS VC would also be great, "Computer, pour beer." (All I can say is, it's been a long day!)
Actually I should have just put mapping of the vueFlo API. That should open up the rest of the developers to building cool widgets also.

widcomm bluetooth stack =) for dun
also a way to use another windows phone as a bt headset like the touch (if possible)
Solid & Fast ROM compatible with previous backups
Damn guys...you're not asking for much are you...hehe. Actually I quite like the sound of the all Black VGA ROM with Touch like interface.
But hey, I'll settle for a an all black super reliable and damn fast ROM in vanilla favour.
You guys have made some great suggestions, that I can't argue with. All I can say..is I'd love a ROM that I can use my Spb Backup files with...without corrupting any software, so when you release version 0.1, 0.2 etc...it will still be compatible with my backup files, making the switching of ROM's a quick thing to do.
I hate my phone being out of action. and having to re-install everything again.
I third the black vga theme. Also in vga mode is it possible to make the start bar a little bigger so it is more finger friendly. Something the size of when it it is in qvga mode would be great. Also when you push the start bar and the drop down list pops up it would be great if that was larger with larger text. Also at least for me in vga mode in wm6 none of the 3g, signal strength icons show up in the start bar only the time does.
The only thing i'm against is the vueFlo. Except the part about using vueFlo to sense when to rotate the screen.

here try this
WARNING...THIS IS NOT REVERSIBLE....NOT WITHOUT CHANGING SOME REG. ENTRIES... AT LEAST (and i don't know which one's need to change!!)
works well with se VGA too esp. if you have fading eyesight!!!
How about an icon on the task bar that rotates screen.
Also, when using the device in QVGA mode, smaller icons on today screen, start/program screen, start/setting screens.
When in VGA mode, but running a QVGA program , show a matching size bigger soft key buttons.
Show connection icons (H, 3G, G) correctly when in true vga mode.

VGA compatible "IContact" like app?

lately, ive tried just about every Icontact edition/app that is available on this forum...some look totally awesome from the screenshots..but I have yet to get one that work and display properly on my athena. I do not use REALvga to change my dpi at all, and I always use my athena in landscape mode. Anyone got a working contact app with smooth finger scrolling for their athena yet? Most of the ones ive tried either have displays that are overlaying other buttons...or the app just starts completely black and graphics begin to glitch.
pocketCM works in any realvga resolution.
Just avoid non vga skin, or install just the .exe file
freeware (donate if you like)
I use Icontact, works fine but I'm in realvga, PocketCM hasn't palyed well since 0.21 on my athena, not certain why.
iContacts has not worked at all on mu x7510. The alpha selection that appears on my TyTN does not appear on my x7510 and contacts themselves do not scroll without theuse of page down and page up i.e. not with finger or stylus gestures. Has anyone had better response than this?
I have tried Icontact with no avail, it just wont display properly in landscape on my advantage. PocketCM works with the standard orange skin, however it seems kinda laggy and some of the overlays like the keypad when it pops up is translucent. I have tried the mmchtc skin, as well as another one, and the black style one works...but I really dont like all the black buttons heh. Since im running a 6.1 rom, ive already got threaded messaging, so no real need for the fancy pocketcm style either.
I've decided to start using Vito FunContact. it loads quickly, and has a great gui....very eye pleasing, and it scrolls pretty decent as well. I am trying to use Vito SMS, however it seems to take F O R E V E R to load...only thing I can think of is vito sms threading actually shows ALL txt history, where the base win mob 6.1 threaded sms app only displays recent txts, then you must click on "older" to display previous messages.

HTC PhonePad Diamondish style *Call for VGA skinner*

None of the new keyboards from the diamond or opal grew on me, I always had the best experience with the phonepad so I updated the look by reversing the images in the dll files to go along better with the diamond/manila look that I currently have on my phone figured I'd post and share here for anyone else interested.
**Edit**
Not being good with art Ive made a couple attempts to try and replicate the dotted background and manila button style, its not coming out as nicely as I would like it to so Im posting these images. If someone can skin them manila style i can finish the VGA version. All that need be done is the background and buttons, they can be left blank as Ill have to edit them anyway. I need a set of each. One normal style like the diamond dialer, dotted background and white buttons and a dotted background black buttons for when the buttons are pressed.
Great idea!
I have missed using phonepad-thanks for your work!

Ahhh...where were you a month ago? I was missing my phone pad for T9 when I flashed a Manilla 2D Rom, and now the compact QWERTY has gotten comfy. Now I have to try your new phone pad!
Thanks mate. Looks great.
Thx,will try it out
also forgot, anyone having trouble installing or getting it to work it requires the sdkcerts since I had to resign all the dll files.
I want it at VGA... :-(
Actually there is a PhonePad in VGA. It works great but the skin is a little boring.
Still the fastest input method IMO.
Is it possible to get this diamond skin in VGA ?
If you guys get me the vga cab or oem I'll rework the dll files, might as well do something to contribute around here as much as I benefit from xda lol. Shouldn't be much quality loss upsizing these images as they're pretty basic but if there is any quality loss, I'll just redo the images will just need more time, find what you can and post it.
This is wonderful! Thank you so much.
Is it possible you resize the phonepad in landscape for 400*240?
post 1 updated with skin request

Sound profile change software

The HD is great! I am at a loss for one thing: How to change a sound profile.
I have used PhoneAlarm in the past and tried installing it but since it runs from the WM Today screen, it is pretty much useless with the TouchFlo interface.
Has anyone found an app that would work to create say, Meeting, Loud, Night profiles like PhoneAlarm can?
BTW, the Gsen app works fantastic for rotating the screen!
You should also try the new SPB 4.0 Keyboard, it is just like the iPhone keyboard with the letters visible above your fingers. Increases accuracy and you can choose from three different sizes. Very nice!
Thanks,
Gordo
If you plan to use SPB mobile shell, it has this facility.
Otherwise, you could also try SPB Phone Suite.
