I don't know if anyone else has had or is having this problem, but i thought i would ask for help.
Sometimes I have to perform a hard reset. When I do, it runs through it's normal start up sequence, all the way through the windows mobile startup screen. As it begins to change from the startup to the today screen, the phone will begin to vibrate and ring on it's own. vibrate for a second or two, and then it's quiet for a second or two, and then ring. the ringer starts off soft, and then seems to work it's way up through to mid range, about 5 different levels of volume. The ringer then stops and the vibrate kicks back in again. It seems to last as long as it takes for my today screen to load. Please understand, The last thing that i want to do is a hard reset, and I'm sure that this would fix the problem, I just don't want to go through the headache of installing all my software. I can hear some people saying, "not a big issue if you have a system backup.." well, I'm thinking that the issue has got to be somewhere in the registry, and I'm thinking that by installing a backup, will only copy the issue back onto my device. I don't soft reset my phone that often, so I can live with the issue if I have to. I just thought I would throw this out there and see if someone might be able to help me out.
Sounds to me that you either pressed the volume button upwards while you phone were starting up or there is something wrong with your volume button in general (either hardware or software). If you have the possibility reflash the device with your shipped ROM version, then see if that persists!

Okay so I think I know at least A solution but I'm hoping that someone here will be able to suggest something besides a hard reset.
I've got a Cingular 8125 a couple of weeks ago. Flashed it to the latest imate rom. I kept it from installing the custom imate stuff but did install some of the Cingular cabs.
Now I'm having a few problems with the phone. It's quite a list.
A) I can't enable wifi at all. At one point I could but the phone locked up on me while I was trying to resetup my connection. I had no choice but to soft reset it. Now I can't enable wifi at all. If I click on it in the comm manager to turn it on it will sit there with the spinning wheel like it's enabling then go back to the same icon with the x on it. I've tried turning flight mode on and off, etc but nothing seems to help it.
B) the phone HAS been locking up. It will just sort of freeze and stop responding. Sometimes I'm able to get to the memory settings in control panel and still have available memory (it's usually been around 16 MB of program memory when this has occured) but even so closing everything will often not help. Even if it unfreezes then it will usually do so not much later and often it just won't unfreeze.
C) sometimes I can't close out the phone application. This seems to happen when Magic Button is running. I click to close it and it goes from the phone to my call history. Closing that goes back to the phone again. I can't get to the Today screen. Pressing the red hangup button would sometimes fix it but usually not.
D) voice command is REALLY wonky using my BT headset (Scala 500). Okay, I know it doesn't officially work with BT headsets and I could live with that. But why does it have to be so damned random?
1) Sometimes pressing the button once will get me the chime. Usually it just gets me a lower pitched tone. If the first press doesn't get it then typically a second within a short time will. Sometimes it takes three though.
2) At one point the phone would usually play my selected ringtone and announce the incoming call over the headset. Other times I would only get the default incoming call sound on the headset and the phone and voice command announcement are over the phone speakers instead. In the last couple of days I've ONLY been getting them from the phone.
3) While typically when I'm using the headset with voice command the feedback DOES come over the headset, sometimes it gives me the confirmations from the phone instead
I think there were a few other flaky issues too but this is the majority of them. Also many of them were present before the rom upgrade so I don't think it's responsible for most of it.
edit: oh, one other thing is that after the ROM upgrade I can't get the default input to stay on anything but keyboard. Even if I change it, I turn around and it's back to keyboard again. I'm thinking, though, that there's a reghack for this?
*bump*

I have the same problem with you. Can anybody help?
any solutions i have the same problem
Try this: back up your PIM, then flash phone back to OEM ROM (cingular, t-mobile, whatever it is for your model). Then unlock it again (if needed), and flash the ROM again. If it's still garbage, try reading the thread for the ROM you loaded (chances are you're not the first to experience this problem, and the other testers of that ROM may offer solutions). If it's still garbage after all that, consider using a different ROM altogether. CRacing's CR86 Touch HD and SVI's ANGEL are both quite nice, and VERY reliable for functionality.
I think its a software bug... Its really annoying if someone calls me and I cant accept the call My ringtone just keeps ringing and I just can stupidly look on the screen without answering :S I push the green "answer" button but the call doesnt accept. I neither can use the red "ignore" button. This problem gets solved with a reset but happends again after a short time.
Is there any solution for thisĀ“? Is there any possibility to accept the call trough the touchscreen?
Please help me I am really desperate!!!
Thanks in advanche.
Uhhmm.....i guess you know that you have to 'slide' the button to the green field if you wanna answer...not 'push' the green spot.
Anyways...you can also use the (physical) buttons of the phone to answer or disconnect.
I think you missunderstood me. I actually mean the physical buttons! They arent working anykind. Normally if I press the green "dial/answer" button the dialer application appears right? But it dont! After software resetting it does again somehow for short time. And if I get a call then I press the physical button but the call doesnt accept. It just keeps ringing further. There is no chance to accept the call. And there is no option to accept the call trough the touchscreen.
Indeed, i misunderstood..sorry!!
If the buttons didn't work at all, i would be thinking of a hardware problem, but since you can solve it for a short while with a soft reset.....i'm not so sure of that.
You still have the option of a hard reset, you could give it a shot, just to be sure(Remember to back up your stuff ).
Otherwise send it in for warranty...presuming you still have it.
Thanks for the reply!
I dont think its a hardware problem because the buttons are working again somehow after a software reset. But the problem happens again some time later
Sending it to warranty is no choice since I always got trouble with my warranty!
My old touch had an software problem and couldnt boot so i send it to the warranty and they just send it me back with no repairs claiming that the warranty gets lost if I connect my device with a computer :S
Anyway i hope there is a solution without hardware resetting
Just a thought....
Did you install any locking software which locks the device fully? It may be the one preventing you from answering calls...
HTH...
No I didnt install anything kinda like that. Is there a dialer replacement I could use instead?
I have also noticed this bug on my Jade running the official 2.32 update from HTC:
When a cal is received, the phone rings but it doesn't display who is calling (the device keeps showing the home screen). This is not happening at every call, but I can't find what is causing this behaviour (it happens even after hard reset, so no additional programs running in the background).
Any ideas how to overcome this?
I have had the Touch 3G for nearly a year now and for the last 3 months I have had this recurring problem which is fixed with a hard reset but will recur again after about 6 weeks. The symptoms are:
1. When turning on, the backlight dims just before the HTC flash screen and startup sound (when it says "Smart Mobility")
2. Touching the screen doesn't bring the backlight back on.
3. Pressing the power button doesn't turn the screen off from this dimmed state, but after pressing touching the screen will turn the backlight back on.
4. Pressing the power button again will now turn off the screen, but pressing it again won't turn the screen back on! If I call it from another phone, the vibrator goes on but it doesn't ring, the screen stays off and you can't answer the call. If you hang up on the other phone it keeps vibrating and you need to do a soft reset to stop it.
If I do a hard reset the symptoms are gone and reinstalling the exact same software doesn't cause the problems immediately but withing a month or so it happens again. All I did just prior to these problems was use TomTom a bit more than usual, but otherwise nothing different. I have used TaskManager to see if there is anything weird running in the background but it all looks fine. I have had a cursory look through the registry but also can't find anything?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like it's going all haywire. If you've had it less than a year, I'd send it in real quick. Sounds more like a hardware problem.
I don't think it is hardware as a hard reset fixes it...it just recurs down the track. I have done a hardrest and reinstalled all my apps and it is working great again but I was wondering if I should be checking somewhere in the registry for an aberrant setting. I am u using a backup image program so at least when it happen again I an restore my system more simply.
But then again, all the symptoms you mentioned point to a hardware defect. You could try to find a tweak, but like all electronic devices, it's the luck of the draw. Try emailing HTC and see what they say.
I've had a problem with my E900 since I got it with regards to the screen. I was hoping Mango might fix it but it doesn't seem to have.
Sometimes if I press the power button the screen backlight comes on (i.e. screen goes from off state to powered) but there is nothing on the screen. No amount of button pressing will cause the screen to show anything.
If this happens I have to turn the device off again (backlight then goes off) and try again. Sometimes it can take 2-3 times before it turns on successfully with the lock screen.
I also have this if an incoming call attempts to wake the phone and also alarms too.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I confirm this one popping sometimes. Not that often that it becomes annoying, but nevertheless.
Did you find a solution to this problem? I am experiencing it too and it is very annoying!
I've recently inherited one as well (E900 that is).
The one I have has been dropped, the backlight powers, but no drawing on the screen.
I've disassembled and re plugged everything (bugger stripping down!) but still no luck. I've done a VolUp+Down+Cam+power hard reset, and when I plug into PC Zune says setup needs completing (so it has reformatted) but still no luck.
I cant see anything fried, and no damaged ribbons as far as I can see, any ideas?
I sold the phone a while ago, and never solved the problem. I think it's a firmware issue.

hi.
What do you mean "somethimes if I press power button"?
Is it pressed with purpose to lock the phone, press it to turn off phone (background slider shows to power off - on Mango and beyond version) or press it accidentally?
Cheers.
So, I did a phone reset. Unfortunately the issue is still present!
Sometimes when I press the power button to unlock the phone the screen is lit, but stays blank i.e. no lockscreen wallpaper, no nothing. The same happens sometimes when I get a phone call - the phone rings and vibrates, the screen is lit but stays blank.
When this happens I have to press the power button to put the phone into sleep mode and press it again to wake it up.
What I found is, when the issue occurs the screen is actually responsive. For example I can slid up and unlock the phone then I hear the unlock "pop" sound. It's just that nothing is drawn on it!
I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same behavior and found a resolution. Also I am not sure if this is a software or a hardware problem. If I could confirm it was a hardware problem I would call LG and have the phone repaired or replaced.
i have exactly the same issue as you, it gets really annoying.
i heard from someone online that the only way to resolve it is to replace the motherboard

I am pretty certain this is a hardware issue. I am calling LG tomorrow and hopefully they'll take the phone for repair/replacement.
I sent my phone for repair. Today I got it back, and guess what?!
The issue is still present! It seems, they "couldn't reproduce" or something.
What should I do now?
EDIT: If anyone is interested, here is a video I just captured which clearly demonstrates the problem. http://youtu.be/38kF9RYs_bU
I'm sending the phone back for repair tomorrow with this video attached.
Hey, might not be an issue at all, but in the video, I saw that the two times you were able to get it to go blank you had your finger on or near the proximity sensor. I wonder if there is something that could be the trigger.
Just wondering if you can duplicated it or cause it only when you have the proximity sensor blocked, or if it truely is random.
You are right, it might has something to do with the proximity/light sensor.
On the other hand, this issue occurs even on incoming calls when the phone is placed on a table, screen up and nothing around the sensor.
Today, I visited my local carrier shop and left the phone for repair again. They told me, since this is a second claim they'll run it through the process faster, so I expect to get it back next week.
Will post an update.
UPDATE: My phone was replaced. Yesterday I got a brand new unit, yeah! It was stock wp 7.0. I plugged in my sim and used the phone the whole day, no sign of blank screen issues. Last nigh I installed all the updates (total 5 I think) up to OS 7.10.8107.79, FW 1.0.16.10. Guess what?! Same issue!
I am crushed
I use my phone a ton for calls , imagine that .
Lately when I put a call on speaker, the screen will not turn off. It will not time out and even if I press the power button to shut the screen off manually, it just comes right back on.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so have you been able to correct it?
p.s. this has only been happening in the past week or so and I can't think of anything I did or any updates that would have caused this.
Thanks
I'm experiencing this same thing. Tried multiple things and even did a hard reset and the issue still persists. Very annoying.
I found a workaround where if I come out of the phone app, then I can lock the screen.
got the same thing. i read something on AC( think it was) regarding the calendar notifications not allowing the screen to go dark too. i wake up, my phone is super hot if i have an all day appt with a notification. did yall find a fix to this? the other forum mentioned possible connection to samsung pay.
Having the same issue. The screen does not turn off when holding the phone to my ear or when I'm using bluetooth headset.
