I havetried to play games on my phone that use the hardware buttons and found the experience to be somewhat frustrating.
It seems that the hardware buttons are restricted in their responsiveness. By this I mean that two keys cannot be pressed at once. Also, if a second key is pressed too soon after the first key is released, the the phone thinks the first key is still pressed.
This makes playing games like pinball hopeless.
Is this a hardware limitation of the phone, or could a software 'tweak' help?
Cheers
just now I bought bluetooth keyboard for PC and I want to try it on this PDA if it is better as standard HW keyboard on PDA. e.g. doom is terrible to play with keyboard on tytn...

A software option to improve things was looked at a long time ago but the hardware does not support what you are looking for on the built in keys.

Cheers fellas. Such a shame really as a large number of pda games will be unplayable because of this.

Now this might be a little different as I have a Hermes 100 (8525) in the US but I can get two button presses using my keyboard instead of the d-pad.
It took a minute to figure out, as morphgear does not support landscape mode, but I open it halfway up so that the magnet is not tripped to rotate the screen. But if you do this remember that UDLR are still oriented to the portrait mode, even though you changed the screen orientation to west to view in landscape....This was like a rubics cube for me, it took me over an hour to figure out what was going on.
So left becomes up, right becomes down, down becomes left, and up becomes right... weird huh?
But I do play all sorts of NES and SNES, Sega, GG, GameBoy, etc. on morphgear and can run holding down right and fire a gun at the same time with another keyboard button...
Of course I've got an Herm100 (8525).....

Hi, newb here. I just got an snes emulator for my new toy, and everyting's fine, except for the fact that i cant seem to use the "end" phone button or map its use. The "call" button works during emulations, as do all the other buttons, but the one button thats most convenient, the end button, doesnt seem to work or can be mapped. Is this normal? Or do i have a lemon? If its normal, is there a hack around this? Thanks in advance
i'm surpprised that you can even map the pickup phone button
from what i've been able to understand they were outside of windows mapping scope and had a much more direct connection to the gsm part itself seing that you can lock them like you can the other buttons
guess one can learn everything any day
NES Emulator
I have PocketNester and, yes, I haven't been able to map the end call button. Haven't tried other NES emulators, though.
Thnaks for the response guys. Well, thats somewhat of a relief, at least its an inherent shortcoming of the unit and i didnt get a lemon.
I hope this can be addressed by some hack or program in the future. That, or someone finally develops buetooth gamepads for the xda II, hehe
A bluetooth gamepad ... now, that would really be the mother of AWESOME.
A bluetooth gamepad ... now, that would really be the mother of AWESOME.
but i doubt that ms would have profile for it in their bluetooth stack :/
Morphgear is the one you want! Plays Mario on SNES like a dream!
can't
use the pad if i rotate the screen
i tried to remap the key but they stay the same wierd
Hi there,
I just tried to play Motocross Stunt Racer on my MDA Pro, but I was unable to press multiple keys at once e.g. unable to accelerate and steer at the same time.
Is this a known problem, and if so, is there a workaround or a fix?
:?:
I open the MDA and play in portai modus.
Use left hand to jumpt, drive and the right hand at the cross/enter button. looks stupid but works.
Is there any possibility to fix this issue?
i read a long time ago someone was working on a new driver for the keyboard allowing for multiple inputs... but i don't think it's doable
Hi Guys,
I am having a couple of issues with my M3100 Hermes100 device. I searched the forum but didn't find anything on these two:
1. When pressing the D-pad (left, right) in games, any other key won't be read as still being pressed.
Ex: I start K-Rally, push hardware1 button for acceleration, and at the first press of D-pad left or right, the car stops (as the acceleration would have been released) and I have to release and press HW1 again to accelerate. It's like after I press D-pad the HW1 is not pressed any more.
I tried the default configuration first, and then I reconfigured the acceleration to each button, one at a time. Combined with D-pad for steering, it always happens like above .
- this happens in other games too (GTS Racing, Hellfire)
- this does not happen if I use the directional keys on the hardware keyboard (which are also read as 'left' and 'right' by the games).
- this does not happen if, in K-Rally for example, I use the 'auto acceleration' option (so the car accelerates by itself, no keypress needed).
2. Rarely (let's say, once per week) the screen suddenly becomes washed out (almost white), with a few garbled lines over its normal content, which is barely visible.
I tried to take a few pics of the screen but the contrast is so low that I've got just a white / grey screen in the pics.
The phone continues to react normally to keypresses.
The issue does not disappear if I extend/fold the keyboard. But it is solved by a suspend/wake up cycle, so there's no need for even a soft reset.
As the issue rarely appears, I couldn't figure out (yet) if it could be caused by any software operation or by a keyboard flip or other movement.
Device details:
S/N HT646
WM 5.1.195 Build 14955.2.3.0 (AKU 2.3)
Operator version: 14.123.10.702
ROM version: 1.23.70.2
Radio version: 1.06.04.00
I had PQZii and AEButton 2.5 installed and then uninstalled, still having same issues.
Please let me know if you experienced something like above, and how / if you solved these.

I just found a few reports on the D-pad issue, no solution though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=275710 (not exactly, but close)
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2006/08/27/orange_spv_m3100_bug_identified
I can see now that the TyTN D-pad issue is quite old and was previously reported in a couple of different bug lists.
This is a pity as some games would be unplayable .
If anyone finds a solution / fix for this, please post it here too. Thanks!
Every CLICK on the D-Pad will "freeze" my device for a fraction of a second.
This problem is not apparent unless you play a D-Pad intensive game.
If I keep HOLDING down the D-Pad, the directional command will persist (as normal) and the lag will NOT last any longer than the initial fraction of a second.
The problem IS NOT present if I use OTHER keys (such as the soft keys above the D-Pad or the QWERTY keyboard keys).
For example, SkyForce is a 2d airplane fighter game with a scrolling background for the terrain. Every time i use the d-pad to move my plane, the background and all other animations will freeze for a tiny fraction of a second. As mentioned above, if I keep holding down the D-Pad, my plane will continue moving in that direction and the lag will NOT go past the initial fraction of a second from when I first press down on the D-Pad.
Another example is tetris, certain D-Pad clicks will not register in the game because the phone was still frozen from a PREVIOUS click. (Remember that in Tetris you might have to click very very very quickly, so a few of those clicks are done while the phone is still lagged).
Again I repeat, there is no lag if I use OTHER keys such as the soft keys or QWERTY keyboard.
I've been without a TyTN for over 2 months (sold mine, changed my mind after 2 months and re-bought a TyTN). So I dont know if it's this NEW phone I bought, or if it's because in the NEW customs roms released, they added some sort of D-Pad process prioritizing tweak to make it TOP priority on the CPU process scheduling.
I'm still doing tests on the matter (different custom ROMs, testing before and after installing certain applications), but so fast things are inconclusive.
Anyone experienced/experiences this problem?
Is there a fix?
thanks!
the keyboard buttons have become very unresponsive..and i have to press really hard.
is anyone else having same problem?
even chinese generic keyboards have a longer lifespan.
either too responsive or unresponsive...this is really a ****ty keyboard..
I am facing the same problem too. But its soem keys that are "problematic" for me, namely, "c" "x" "," and sometimes, the backspace key does double when i only press it once.
Definitely will send in for warranty before its up end of the year.
My X1 keyboard definitely seems a lot more sluggish than when I bought it. But, I don't think it is a hardware problem, but rather something not right with the software. I even turned off auto-complete to no avail. If you are a quick typer, you can actually keep typing and the X1 will eventually catch up because it is buffering all the keystrokes.
I asume too that this problem is releated to windows mobile.
In some Programms i have to wait till i see what i am writing.
In other programms i have double writing of the buttons that i press.
I asume that the Keyboard driver is maybe broken.
Windows Mobile too is not really stable.
If the Phone is more than tree days without any reboot it becomes heavy instable.
Paintings of the Windows and startup of Programms is heavy Slow.
Only a reboot resolves the Problems for a while.
What makes me also thinking is if windows mobile has some memory leaks.
The Memory usage growth with the time even if nothing is running.
I am experiencing the same problem. When I write I either get a double space or no space from pressing the space bar...
I am experiencing the same problem... and I don't believe it's a software issue... I thought my xperia was flawless.. it's not!
I have the same problem, just recently but it with only my space bar - i have to press it a few times for it to work.... Very Annoying!
i only get it with the space bar. either it does not make a space when pressed of it makes 2 spaces.
all the other buttons seem ok
Same with me. Most noticeably is the spacebar's slow responsiveness. My x1 is ill.
I have been having the same problem. Its very very irritating. Sometimes i have to press the key very hard or sometimes its just one press and the alphabet comes 2-5 times. Its really irritating.
I thought it was a software issue and i have got R3A installed 2 days ago but the problem still exist.
The experia keyboard is useless.
testing testing testing testing.
works fine for my x1i.

take out your battery and clean the keyboard using a air canister try running something sharp around the buttons you having problems with and blow some air to the back open area that should help out
Hey, I have the same Problems with my Keyboard. Very irritating. My X1 was once at the repair service but the Problem is still there. Now I will send my X1 to the repair service again. I hope my X1 will work fine after that.
Does anyone know whats the Problem here ? Is it the Keyboard inlay ( hardware ) or dust ?!
same problem with the keyboard.
when i press some letters (n, a, l), the comma, and space bar, i get double letters or double spaces.
more persons with this problem....hmm.... does anyone know what´s SE saying about this ? .....
