Hi everyone,
Just got my Cingular 8525 the other day (upgrade from my Wizard). So far so good but I'm looking for a program that lets me see my local weather when connected with my WIFI. I've searched the web and forums but have only been able to find paid ones.
Are there are free ones out there?
Thanks in advance.

This is, in my opinion the best one out there, you can specify radar maps (.jpgs)
for your local area, many different icon sets, very customizable.
Thanks, I'll check it out!
i love this one

Doh! didn't check out you're link... looks like the OP has found a winner.
Hrmm.... I'm looking for something that's free if at all possible.
The second one only seems to support cities for the US. I live in Canada so that didn't help. Thanks for your efforts though
EDIT: Weather Watcher seems to be the winner!
weather apps
I don't know any freeware weather app, but for me the bests are from sbsh and spb
The first one lets you customize the weather sources,
The other has a nice graphical interface and lets you to download (and create anmations) images from webcams
greetings to all
Weather Watcher seems to be the only PPC Weather Forecast freeware, and it is really clean and usefull... But no today screen integratin.

FYI: Mike Singer, the developer, is extremely responsive to requests. WW PPC is not his first priority, but he does answer any and all email.

Does it exist?? Journal bar has become unreliable and I am searching for a replacement... :?: :?:
SBSH's Pocket Weather is superb.
WeatherPanel is fantastic...well worth the money and you get frequent updates and feedback from the developer.

I use a free software called WeatherInfo. The service is by Weather.com and the program is by Shane Church.

I agree.
I've tested many. So far this is the best IMO as a stand a lone and Today plugin. During tests, I found other programs reporting incorrect weather temperature way off than reality. SBSH's Pocket Weather is the best choice by far and well worth the few dollars.
Is there a trial version??
try
www.ajoliver.fs2.com/pocketpc/todayweather/
thats where i got mine
of cause it could be that you already knew from a google search
yeah, I did try that link but it doesnt work.
That program is no longer free, but here's an earlier version that was freeware. I use it and it works fine.
I go with the other recommendations of spsh pocket weather. Feature rich and very stable

Thanks very much for that, xda-rocks. Much appreciated.
Have a look at WeatherPanel by Marsware (www.marsware.net).
Having used both SBSH Pocket Weather and also WeatherPanel I much prefer the latter ...
Just personal preference I suppose !

I had lots of problems when I used WeatherPanel (marsware) on a long term trial, which made me glad I didn't buy it in the end. After a while it refused to update itself for a week (by which time I had a blank Today entry) and then would suddenly start working again.
However, it was a nice, usable program and looked good.
i had tons of issues with Journal Bar
so i just jumped on the first free weather panel i could find
today weather
seems that it's no longer free
which is why i dident bother to fixing my link
by reversing the fs2 to f2s
Can anyone recommend a good, simple, customizable weather plugin for the Today screen? I've been using HTC Home, but it takes up too much room on the screen.
There's always Spb Weather:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/weather/?en
I think it's been discussed a few times on the forum.
Yeah,
and also SPB MOBILE SHELL has the weather next to other good stuff for today screen ...
Damn, am I the only one liking it???

Thanks, mrlease! I had tried SBP Weather, but couldn't get it to work. Weather to Go does what I need it to do, and the price is certainly right. (Though I would have paid for SBP the other day if it had worked.)
Thanks again!
OK, maybe I spoke too soon. Weather to Go works fine, but it has limitations. It doesn't appear to update over a cellular connection (ActiveSync or WiFi only), and it doesn't show current conditions.
So, I guess I'm still searching. Again, SPB didn't work for me (couldn't get it to connect), so that's not an option.
You might try: http://www.sbsh.net/products/pocketweather/. It is cheaper than SPB by $5. I heard it has a smaller memory footprint than SPB, but I can not vouch for that. I tried it and liked it, but decided I could just use weather on mobile google.

I like SPB shell as well. I flash so much though that Ive gotten to where I dont even bother putting it back on. It's a pain to keep settting back up. The weather for my city though never seems to be even close to what it is. I have just found Marsware WeatherPanel. Seems decent enough. Still taking any other suggestions though.

I'm using WTG with WM6. I can update the weather through my data connection, wireless or ActiveSync. You might be confused when you look at the detailed weather drop-down for a city. The update date and time shown is the last time that NOAA updated the information for that city. BTW, most weather programs only give you a simple graphic with the high and low temperatures,
I really like WTG because I travel through connecting cities and it gives me a look-ahead for potential weather delays for multiple cities. Having to update manually is a small price to pay.

I tend to agree here. SPB weather was very inaccurate for me. Sometimes it would be as much as 10 degrees off. They use some weather source that is based in germany by default I believe I heard. There are user made weather sources that seemed to work better, but they were a pain in the neck to weed through, install, and configure in my opinion. SBSH's pocketweather worked great for me. But I ended up just using either the web or googlesms for weather. I'm in Dunbar, WV USA.
try weatherpanel 2.5
www.marsware.net.
The software is now free so you don't need to purchase. Its customisable and can have animated icons. I used with no problems but now use htc home.
I went back to SPB Weather, because I don't like how SBSH weather shows the detailed information, besides, for unknown reasons made my virtual page (I use WAD) really slow, changed to SPB again and everything works ok now.
PS: Nothing against SBSH, I moved from SPB Diary to PocketBreeze.

I'm looking for a weather program for my XV-6800. I don't want something that adds weather to the today screen, but something that shows it seperately.
Any ideas?

think we can make enough noise to get xbmc ported to mobile? get them to make the weather appear on the today screen....
Does anyone know of a good animated doppler radar app that i can zoom in close enough to see a few big streets for ppc? Its been raining here alot and using skyfire to look at an interactive doppler map is really a pain.
Ive tried
RadarWatch2 -only one level of zoom.
weatherpanel by mars - radar broken.
memory map radar - cannot install "device incompatible"
dopplermobile - i have no idea whats going on with this app. I was told it was a weather app but you open it and it seems more like a blog reader.
Im running wm6 on a htc touch. All i want is radar thats animated so i can see what direction the rain is moving in. And to be able to zoom close enought to see some major roads. Ive used the search function and havent found anything.
WeatherPanel is the best, I'm sure many will agree. But why do you want to zoom in to see streets with your weather radar? Seems pointless honestly, anyways, when you say it's broken, are you referring to some of the preset maps not working? If your in the US, use the map marked "2", that one works.

Sounds like you must be here where im at...
Weatherpanel works with the radar, but only the 2nd one for the US. I really don't know why. BUT I do wish there was a program like google maps with a radar overlay. aka whats on weather.com
Marsware WeatherPanel radar images DO work...probably just the default URLs that the program uses are now dead links. I have posted a short tutorial (generated by Storyr on WeatherPanel.net) in my Diamond WeatherPanel Theme thread. See post #95 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401781
Using the tutorial you can add any number of radar images to WeatherPanel and auto-update them to your heart's content. Any image that you can link to via a URL can be used by WeatherPanel.

Thank you i will try using weatherpanel again, that was my problem was the weather data could be seen but no image to go with it. Can you zoom in close enough to see a major street?
The reason why i want the zoom function is so i can see exactly where the rain is and which way it is headed. When its zoomed out you really have to just guess weather a certain area like a park is wet or not.

Every radar image is different, so it is possible, you just need the right one. If your looking for a major street, check to see if there is a traffic cam posted, then you can use that. But radar will update as fast as every 30 min.

im confused. how will the weather app know what image im using so it can put the weather in the right places? or did you mean id have to swap the image with a working one that has the radar already on it?
Also i didnt mean zoom to an actual street level view. I meant to be able to zoom in and out as much as google maps... or close to the level of zoom.
this is what im using now with skyfire http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/?animation=true .. but its a real pain. i dont see a reason why it couldnt be made as an app for ppc. Wishful thinking, i guess.
thanks for the suggestions.

You just select the images per city, 8 max. The first will be displayed as default. The image itself, at least the default, is just the image, nothing interactive, so zooming too much will just blur it. But, you can use any custom image URL, try using that image from that site, it may work.

Hi,
I'm a really newbie and I'm writing my own weather-app for the pocketpc in C#. But I've got a little problem:
How do I get the forecast for the next 6 days out of the yahoo-weather feed? For example: http://xml.weather.yahoo.com/forecastrss?p=94704
Is it possible, cause I only see the next 2 days in it?
Take a look at the screenshot. That's what it's all about till now ;D
Thx.

i canĀ“t help you, sorry, but just want to say: nice graphics and a free, small standalone fullscreen weather app is a good Idea. All other good apps are to fat for me and today plugins. So let me test it.
And if possible think about different languages (High/Low) and maybe little animation. But be carefull at the momen i use rumballs manilla weather and it uses rwhen unning 10 MB ! (because of the big animated weather pictures)
Your app looks nice.
The reason your app receives only 2 days is because...the link you're using only provides 2 days:
Code:
Yahoo! Weather - Berkeley, CA
Yahoo! Weather for Berkeley, CA
Conditions for Berkeley, CA at 7:53 am PDT
Current Conditions:
Partly Cloudy, 50 F
Forecast:
Sun - Sunny. High: 77 Low: 50
Mon - Partly Cloudy. High: 76 Low: 50
Full Forecast at Yahoo! Weather
(provided by The Weather Channel)
Looking at the available parameters for the RSS feed here: http://developer.yahoo.com/weather/#params I don't see any way of getting more then 2 days.
EDIT: Funny thing, playing with some random default parameters I got a way of listing 5 days, see:
http://xml.weather.yahoo.com/forecastrss?p=94704&d
Nice!
Keep up your good work!
