Strange Vodafone connection configuration problem - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Having done a hard reset (to fix my backlight problem [see earlier posting]), I'm going through a build process to get my x7500 "just right".
When setting up the GPRS configuration, I realised I'd forgotten the Vodaphone settings so I had to hunt them down on the Web. The problem was, nothing I tried actually worked. I kept getting a "no modem" message.
So I set up a (should be) "good configuration" to use the common settings, ie:
name: Vodafone GPRS
access point name: Internet
username: web
password: web
And then created another entry in the ISP list, so that I could mess around with other settings (like the *99***1# stuff).
Still, nothing I tried would work.
So I did a soft-reset... and lo and behold, my alternate entry in the ISP list had disappeared, and the good configuration, er, now worked.
Very strange.
(I really did do the hard reset)

really dislike Vodafone now because it lock and limit the potential of Athena. T-mobile is much better, but anyway, i can confirm the setting you have is what i had on my vodafone setting before.

Orange Connection Settings (SPV-M3100)

Okay, I updated my firmware on my PSV-M3100 to the one here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281146
And all works fine in terms of day to day usage of the PDA, but when trying to access WAP or the internet via 3G or GPRS I'm getting errors saying the connection needs editing.
Would someone running the default UK Orange firmware be kind enough to post the connection settings that come with the SPV-M3100 as standard.
I even called Orange to help but "the guy who knows the SPV-M3100 has gone home for the day" not that it is a M3100 issue, just any old Orange 3G settings I imagine?
Anyway, any help on this would be appreciated.
I have tried searching here and the net for what should be in the connections area but very little info is out there
maybe this can help:
http://www.pda-friendly.net/PDA_GPRS_Settings.htm
Thanks, but I was looking for something a bit more thorough...
Settings for Orange World, Orange Internet, Orange MMS
And then the connection settings for GPRS/3G under these
Plus proxies etc.
Still, I am meant to have Orange calling me back today to help me out here, so whatever they tell me I'll document here for the Wiki.
Cheers
ok, i don't know if there's any cab available with all the settings, but a quick search on the networking forum poped up this which also contains MMS settings:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=224183
Thanks for those...
Orange are baffled and now my phone number is not recognised by Orange World at all, and I can't see any website sites...
I'll give them 24 hours more to fix or I cancel my contract (it'll be my 3rd SPV M3100 in 10 days - must be a record).
...at least I can get a 3G connection without it bombing out, even though I can't do anything with it.
Sweet! Those settings worked perfectly on my Orange UK M3100, just as they have on all my other devices. Shame there isnt a cab that can do the same!
Cheers,
Fin
Are these of any help?
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
Hi There,
Just to let you know, you can get the settings straight from the Orange UK website. Just create a free account based on your billing and phone number, and there will be a section for them to either SMS you the settings to your M3100 or for you to stick them in yourself.
I recently put on WM6 onto my M3100, and just put the orange wap setting. Even though there are originally about 3 or 4 different gprs settings on the M3100, the only one that really ever is used is the orangewap access point settings. The orangeinternet access point settings are never touched when the M3100 3G access is taking place.
FYI from the orange site under 3G Setup for M3100:
Setting up the data account
1. On the PDA, tap on Start and then Settings.
2. Tap on the Connections tab.
3. Tap on the Connections icon.
4. Tap on the Advanced tab.
5. Tap on Select Networks.
6. Under the first drop down box, tap on New…
7. In the Enter a name for these settings: field, enter Orange GPRS WAP
8. Tap on the Modem tab.
9. Tap on New…
10. In the Enter a name for the connection: field, enter Orange GPRS WAP
11. Tap on the Select a modem drop-down list and select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G).
12. Tap on Next.
13. In the Access point name: field, enter orangewap
14. Tap on Next.
15. Tap on Finish.
16. Tap on the Proxy Settings tab.
17. Select the This network connects to the Internet option.
18. Select the This network uses a proxy sever to connect to the Internet option.
19. Tap on Advanced… Tap on WAP.
20. In the Server field, enter 192.168.071.035
21. In the Port field, enter 8080
22. Tap on ok five times
23. Tap on x to close the Settings screen.
24. Tap on Start, Programs and then Internet Explorer.
25. Tap on Menu.
26. Tap on Favorites...
27. Tap on the Add / Delete tab.
28. Tap on Add...
29. In the Name field, enter Orange GPRS WAP
30. In the Address field, enter http://wap.orange.co.uk
31. Tap on Add.
32. Tap on ok.
33. Tap on x.
The new WAP profile is now configured and ready for use.
I did everything apart from Step 21, whereby when I wrote my settings down, the port number remained at 9201, NOT 8080 as written in step 21.
Give this a go, and see if it works for you.
Good Luck!
if you're on contract, the accesspoint is orangeinternet no password, nothing.
for MMS settings; google for them, a site called filesaveas.com has them

I have created a cab file that will install Orange UK internet, WAP and MMS settings to make things a little easier!
Hi,
I have upgraded to 20070320_RUU_Hermes_WWE_3.23.0.0_1.34.00.10 on my M3100 which works great except for the 3G connection. To configure the device I used the 'Orange Internet MMS Settings.cab'.
Once the Direct push is configured for my exchange server, the device downloads emails. The device then drops the 3G/GPRS connection and the activesync screen shows error with No connection for data.
Looking into the xml files saved from the original Orange ROM shows extra settings that do not appear in the 'Orange Internet MMS Settings.cab' file.
Has anyone else seen this issue or have more info on Orange 3G settings?
Many Thanks
Crammy
I've flashed my phone with this WM6 ROM as well. Has your SPV M3100 stopped receiving/sending MMS's ?? I've checked and re-checked my phones MMS settings a dozen times and also had orange send them to my phone cia SMS but no joy. I wonder if it is just me or a common problem with the new WM6 ROM's and the M3100?
Mine works fine.
As long as you set up the MMS data connection AND the mms server correctly, yours will as well.
There are hundreds of threads here and elsewhere with the correct way - but the key is to set up an ORANGEMMS connection in the "private" connection settings (with user Orange, password Multimedia and APN as orangemms, then set up Orange MMS server in MMS settings with Gateway IP (proxy) address: 192.168.224.10 , Port: 9201, MMS Message (Relay) Server URL http://mms.orange.co.uk/

Looks like we are having a double conversation here!! Anyway. I have deleted my original MMS settings as these were set up in the "internet" connection, not the "private" connection as you advise. I have used exactly the setting you show above but when I try to send an MMS I can't and I just get the timer symbol showing they cannot currently be sent. I'm really at a dead end hear unless you have any other ideas?? I really appreciate you taking the time out to help though.

The browser is probably not returning the correct user-agent string. Unfortunatly the operators decided to use autodetection via this string. Its a right pain because i cant access the o2 pda site either, i get the crappy wap text version
I believe the gurus are investigating it. What ROM are you currently running?

Wizard Faster than Hermes !!

For a still unknown reason to me, my Wizard has faster data connection than my Hermes, the connection speeds (as per www.dslreports.com/mspeed for the Wizard ranges from 86 to 101 kbit/sec, while the top speed for Hermes is
6 kbit/sec With same internet settings
I´ve tried different things found in diverse threads (Increasing the TCP Window Size, which by the way reducing it gives "better" results, Change the DNS addresses as per OpenDNS, the tweak to make PIE as IE6,etc. etc.)
See signature, any idea?
Thank you!
yep. and your 10,000$ car is faster than a porche! haha
Hard to believe it...
Good analogy! Saddly for me is true, perhaps the Porsche is great for highways (G3) and doesn´t like the dusty roads (Edge).....
For me also. I found the 8125 loaded pages faster in PIE than did my 8525
Lucky you!

that scares me now, I'm about to throw my Wizard for Hermes!!! Can this be confirmed? I want to know, since I have already ordered my Hermes and not found a buyer for the wizard . Besides all has nicely been messed/ juiced up for the wizard.

If you look at my postings you´ll find that the first post on the subject was placed back in December last year, I´ve tried a lot of things, have read in a lot forums (not only xda-devs) and NOBODY was able to give me a hand (check my signature, it´s been that way for weeks and I haven´t received a single comment from experts in this site . I´m almost sure that the problem is a combination of conditions on both the 8525´s and my network. If you know somebody subscribed to your network and owns a 8525 check twice that the internet connection is as fast as it´s supoused to be.

All time based so roll 2 or even better sell your wizzard for more thatn you have to pay for the hermes.
Don't foorget 9g is worthless on a device that can not handle it.
Make sure you tell att that you are goingto be in the 3g coverage zone so they give you the 2100 version

I´ve check over and over the configuration as the user interface allows it and ALL parameters are correct, the problem is hiden somewhere within the registry or the OS....!

Unable to connect to the internet on Vodafone

Hi
I bought a Generic unbranded X1. I put my Vodafone SIM in it and did a hard reset as Vodafone have suggested. When it has finished setting up and downloaded the settings from Vodafone I still cannot access the internet in either IE or Opera. I have searched the internet and tried changing the settings but still get nothing.
Can someone please give me a list of all the settings I need so that I can manually set up the connection.
By the way it's a Dutch Vodafone SIM but that makes no difference as internet was working on my P1 and the ANP and user name and password are the same.
Thanks
Ed
same problem, tried the given settings from the vodafone site (business contract).
no results. waiting for a sollution.
ps. my t-mobile SIM works okay.
groet, Steven
This is the daft thing. I put my UK O2 SIM in and everything works fine.
Why is it that Vodafone have to screw everything up. Surely it can't be that complicated.

The best thing to do is to delete the vf settings (there's a reg key that you change to enable them to be edited on this very forum) and then start again from Scratch.
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations\<Account> and then modify the ReadOnly key to 0.
One of the main problems is the stock setting of "my isp" by VF, this seems to screw up connect via "the internet" which is what quite a few progs are looking for.
Disable all proxies and check to see if the advanced network settings uses chap rather than pap.
Personally I got rid of all the PAYT stuff and the wap, I never bother with either microsoft or vodafone live services.
Other option is to flash to an unbranded rom..

Appreciate that, but he mentioned something about it doesn't matter that it is a Dutch Vodafone sim. Just trying to be helpful....
Also I suggest using (for VodaUK)
Access point name: internet
User Name Box: web
Password: web
Homepage: http://www.bbc.co.uk/
You get more applications running over the internet APN, only thing which won't work is the Vodafone Live homepage, which is pointless anyway.
Hi Guys,
Had the same problem - until I read something on this forum earlier.
Try this:
Go to: Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Advanced Networking
And change the band from HSUPA/HSDPA to GPRS. Then soft-reset.
The connection settings (as on the website unchanged) from vodafone should now work.. (did for me).
You can then change it back to HSDPA or HSUPA/HSDPA (and it should still work)..
YES at last, you are a star. That has at least got me getting a connection.
My panels update themselves so I know that the phone is receiving data.
My only problem now is that I cannot load any internet pages either in Opera or IE. Windows Live will not let me sign in and neither will MSN Messenger.
No worries - had the same issue on my Dutch X1i.
Do your panels run in the background? It seems mine terminate (i.e. if I activate FB, then switch to the fish, the FB panel terminates).
On your connecting, had that problem with my Kaiser - until I worked out that the Connections applet under Settings-->Connections-->Connections is fussy.
Make sure you have your GPRS settings in "My ISP", and that My ISP is selected under "Select Networks" for "prgrams that use internet".
If you are using a proxy, you'll notice that you can't get a proxy under "My ISP". Don't ask me why MS did this
Set the proxy settings under "My Work" (without a GPRS Modem connection under "My Work". I think it defaults to use the modem connection under "My ISP".
All other permutations (creating your own set of settings under "Select Networks", using a mix of own/My Work/My ISP, proved to be unreliable. Took me months to work that out.
Good luck, let me know the above needs clarification.
Thank you very much Calvin. That has got it all working perfectly.
By the way I have the same problem with the Facebook panel. If you navigate away from the Facebook panel by selecting another panel then it logs you out, however if you just start IE, Opera or Windows Live over the top of the panel then it keeps you logged in.

Nice - only a pleasure
Yeah, I noticed that too so it seems the panels API replaces the today screen with an overlay when you choose a "panel", which is probably why you can have either Today or Radio or Dashwire. Lol.
Ah well, still quite a functional interface I think.
Proxy server
To all of you: if you just switch of the proxy server of your Vodafone Live! connection then all problems are gone. Only thing is you cant't access the Vodafone Life! pages, but who cares about that.

And if you set the proxy server as part of the Work Network, then everything works.. Problem originates (*I think*) where Windows Mobile wants to use "My ISP" regardless of what you set in Connections-->Select Networks. So unless you know the relevant Reg Hack(s), ur effectively stuffed. This might be especially true for things like Messenger.
Drove me nuts for MONTHS. I'm happy to say that mine works now (vodafone live, internet, all applications, everything etc).
Anyhoo, just thinking out the box, setting the proxy server together with your ISP settings (e.g. settings bundle "Vodafone Live!" together with Proxy IP) might very well route all your internet traffic through the Vodafone Network (and presumably firewall, thus protecting your device from e.g. Malware on the 'net.
Ah well, since that doesn't work cause WinMo is fussy, I run Trend Micro as well - Windows Mobile.
hello,
I attempted to use the GPRS cab fix (which turns out to be german settings) and consequently screwed my gprs/3g/hsdpa settings.
Im a vodafone UK customer, wondering if any other Voda UK customers could share all their settings (MMS, gprs/3g/hsdpa) so any other fools like me could attempt to reset the settings!

Have a look at the settings I posted earlier if that will help, if not log onto the Vodafone forum and ask there as they seem to be quite helpful...

You would think they would be easy 2 find on Vodafone.co.uk... but check kirkie's post (#3).
My suggestion is delete all settings you can find in "Connections", and start again with My ISP, using the settings (e.g. connection name, Proxy IP address etc).
Keep in mind though, that there is a low chance that hidden settings were changed (which are only accesible through the Reg). In short trying to find what it changed might be a mission and a hard reset might be your easiest option (the fix cab may have altered settings in ur Reg like hidden proxy switch etc etc). The time spent re-installing is peanuts compared to trying to work out what it changed
I know I know - but it happened to me as I tried the same with AT&T fix cabs and sat screwed for a week or so.
yeah i followed what kirkie listed, although it still seems to attempt to dial a VFDE connection (german), and the connections list i can access doesnt seem to be the full list (theres still some german connections somewhere else i cant access)
might just have todo a reset. pain in the arse tbh, got it all setup how i like lol.
anyone know how to go about a hard reset?
else anyone figured out how to edit the registry connection entries?
i rang vodafone requesting the settings to be sent to me, although when trying to install them i just get an error.
well, no thanks to activesync, but lots of thanks to dashwire ...
hard reset and restore using dashwire made my life nice and easy.. only took 5 mins to reinstall all the little apps/panel's i'd aquired.
thanks for the help anyway guys

Email Setup/Connection Problem

Hi guys, I been browsing the forum for a while - decided to sign up now due to getting hold of my first smart phone.
I've set up my email account (pop3) it worked the first time yesterday, received and sent emails.
Now today, when I receive I get nothing, no messages, and when I send one i get this message:
"cannot connect with current connection settings. the change your connection setting, tap settings."
clicking on settings brings up the t-mobile settings tab etc, but I'm not sure what to change here as I'm pretty new to all this!
and I'm just wondering if I need to change anything - as it worked yesterday but not now even though i haven't changed anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
I used to get all kinds of hassle like this with my HTC Advantage. It would work perfectly for a while, then it would not allow access, so I'd have to re-input the SAME settings all over and it would seem to work again (fortunately, it seems to be pretty well behaved nowadays!)
So long as your pop3/send/recieve/SMTP settings are all good [make sure that login names etc are all as your email provider states, usually full email address and password and smtp/outgoing *DOES* require authentication]- sounds like you might want to check on your connection settings (I assume that the internet is not working either? Or MSN messenger?) B4 going into settings you will need to find out EXACTLY what your APN (access point name) address is for your specific carrier (there are typically several ones per carrier - usually one for contract and one for PAYG) and the user name and password.
Then check/update your connection settings. You can go and edit the existing setting - you will need to choose a name for it (there should be a default) and then you may have to 'select a modem' - typically I select 'Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)', as it works best for me [on another device however, I select GPRS only, as there is poor 3G reception here in the office and it causes the connection to find a 3G signal and try to connect to it, to no avail though and thus it drops the connection - but hopefully you wont experience this!]
Next update your: 'APN' and the 'User Name' and 'password' (those 3 things will be supplied by your carrier) and save it. And HOPEFULLY that should do it - it can get a little more complicated than that, but I'm hoping that you dont have to get into setting up work networks/proxy servers etc - I can do that and have some data for it, but I'm not very good at exaplaining it I'm afraid it's something I've learnt on a trial and error basis, as I'm not a techy/network specialist AT ALL
HTH
double post*
thanks for your reply!
as far i know all my email info is fine, but I shall try again after work. only details I might have to get is t mobiles. might have to look on the net. but i'll try what you've suggested.
but the net is working fine! I'm using it now...will give it some trail and error.
thanks, and till later!
In which network are you? And which country?
Hello - I'm on t-mobile in the UK
I'm thinking of doing a total hard reset - now my googlemail isn't working ! and that was yesterday.
Just for good orders sake:
T-Mobile APN Configuration
For both contract and pay-as-you-go T-Mobile customers in UK the following APN settings are used:
Name: TMobile GPRS
GPRS APN address: general.t-mobile.uk
Username : user
Password: wap
- other settings can be left blank.
Apologies if you already know how to do this, but I just checked on the HD2 and you do the following;
GOTO the Settings tab (last one).
Hit MENU (bottom right)
Hit CONNECTIONS icon
Hit CONNECTIONS
Select (if you're accurate enough.... ) 'Manage Existing Connections' and follow the path - you may want to just re-input the above to make sure you know all is well then save it (finish)
Just a thought.
Thanks alot for that blackblade, i can use that as reference, will try again in abit - I've done a phone reset for now.
cheers fella. very helpful.
well guys, I've tried checking and changing those details - still no joy. Not sure what to do with this now to be honest!
Not sure if you've resolved this, but I had the same problem with t-mobile.
You need to deselect "use proxy server to connect to the internet" in the t-mobile internet settings, for some reason this gets selected on set up. Once you've done this you should be away!

SOS!! My HD2 cannot connect to web on O2 "Problem Solved"

Hi all,
I've got my sim-free HD2 from superetrader uk. But after inserting my o2 sim, I got a really big problem that I can't get to web!!
I used "O2" network settings found by HD2 automatically. But it always said
"Cannot Connect
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection...blahblah"
when I tried to access 3G.
I've tried many ways suggested on the internet, including removing username and password in the connection settings, adding DNS ip, and even using hard reset. But thay can't work at all.
But my sim does work well(accessing 3G) in my HTC HD(that rom supports 3G and connection settings are with blank username, password and DNS).
I nearly suspect there is a manufacturing problem with my phone.
Plz help me! I've struggled for 2 days and gonna explode!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
To find a solution, please go to #6. Thanks!
can you try to go on the o2 site using your pc and download the settings to your phone via mms/sms
are you a payg customer
are you using pay as you go?
if so on my mates phone on O2 it downloads the wrong connection settings when it does the automatic setup and you need to edit them to get it to work
Find and edit the right name for your accesspoint.
At german o2 it is APN (Zugriffspunkt) : webmobil1
Thank you all!!
You helpful guys all hit the point!!
Exactly I am a pay & go user.
After I got your replys, I asked my friend who also uses O2 pay&go with S1. He told me a different APN. Then I tried and it worked!!
So it's right a wrong access point name setting problem.
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH AGAIN!!
Here are my correct connection settings for UK O2 PAY & GO USER WITH A SIM FREE HD2 if you undergo a pain with accessing internet:
Settings - Wireless controls - Menu - Connections - Add a new modem connection
[you can delete all other connections first if you only use o2 mobile internet]
Enter a name for the connection: mobile web (whatever you like)
Select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Next.
Access point name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Next.
User name:
Password:
Domain:
(These three items are all left BLANK)
Advanced...
(Just use the default settings)
Finish.
OK.
OK.
Close.
Now it works.
Alternatively, you can use automatic config by choosing O2 from network database of HD2. Then you can just manage the connection "moblie web" by changing access poing name to payandgo.o2.co.uk and deleting both username and password.
Hope that's clear!
Thank you loads! I was having the same problem and thanks to this post I managed to sort it! Nice to know the automatic O2 settings thing works about as well as a chocolate teapot!
Again thanks
