Hello,
I have lots of ringtones in my miniSD, and I want to use those ringtones w/out copying to Windows/ringtone. Is there a way to do that? Thanks.
It seems like everything has to be in the Device storage, can't be in miniSD.
Some people have had success putting Ringtones in My Documents, either on the main memory or the SD card- may be worth a try?

I have a few ring tones that on my old PDA2K I kept on my SD card and yet was somehow (I cannot remember how) able to use them from my SD card as ring-tones.
On my bright and shiny new K-Jam I cannot find a way to use files on the SD card as ring-tones.
So to save space if I MUST have the files on the phone I want to use MP3's.
Well bugger me I cannot make this work either.
Any ideas out there please?
Cheers.
Robin

Interesting.
All the other comments I have heard say they will not work if they are on your SD card unless you make some registry changes?
Something I don't really want to do.
So where on your SD card did you copy them and how did you make the phone recognise them as ring tones?
Robin
Windows\Ring\ is the default location for tones. Mp3s work. Just copy them to the Windows\Ring\ folder [use activesync on pc or file explorer on ppc] and you should be able to select them as tones. The registry hack actually changes the default location to a folder of your choice [i.e. on a Storage Card] this is useful if you have a lot of tones. From experiene with WM2003se sometimes this doesn't work well something about the Storage Card taking too long to initialize and therefore the Phone doesn't find the tones folder and just reverts to default. The work around was to have them on Storage, but now with WM5.0 everything is Storage I haven't tried the hack on WM5.0 though.

Another thing is you could cut up your mp3 tones [30 secs is more than enough for a ringer] and re-encode them to a lower bitrate [I use 96kbps Stereo] it's around 360Kb per tone.

Hope this helps.
try to convert to mp4....its work too....
If you don't want to change the default location for ringtones via the registry you can add your wav, mp3, mid to a folder called "My Documents" on the storage card. If it doesn't exist just create it. Thus far it is the only folder I have found that will work without changing the registry. Cant be in a subdirectory. Files get all cluttered up, but you don't have to do anything.
I'm looking for an application that will allow me to use my storage card to store ringtones. I saw one before but it didn't work on my 8525. I'm on windows mobile 6 the regular at&t rom.
also would this or something else allow me to use mp3 tones as mms/alert/alarm tones? I'd really like a different alarm using mp3 since wav takes up so much space.
I tried searching but couldn't find what I was looking for
for ringtones, you can place mp3 files in the root of the storage card or create a my documents folder in the storage card and place it there. then you can use those files as ringtones. as for alerts, i think you can only use wav files......but dont take my word for it.
WOAH! it was that simple?
and now I'm not really tripping off the wav files since I can still store them on the storage card.
thanks!!!!
Can anyone help me??
As the internal memory on the handset is not huge i store all my sound files on my 16GB memory card.
Is there anyway i can set my ringtones to include the playing of files from my memory card??
The only way i can get them to play as a ringtone is by placing them in the ringtone folder on the handset but space is very limited.
Thanx
Andy.
yeah, its silly that they wont play from the card. i put photo contact pro on my x1. with this probram u can set ringtones and sms tones for each contact, even files on the sd card

You can put your ringtones in the Storage Card/My Documents/My Ringtones folder and they will be available in the sounds and notifications settings. However for sms you can only use wma files by default on storage card or you can put any mp3 files to /Application Data/Sounds, but that is the internal storage again.
Am I missing something or is it not possible to use ringtones on your SD card? I checked the HTC site for this and didn't see anything about this.

Try using ringdroid and see where it stores all it's mp3's on your sd card. Then that should be the folder you have to put all your mp3's into in order for them to be selectable.
You just need to create folders. Make folders called ringtones, alarms, notifications and place the sound files that you wish to use in it's folder (i.e. for a ring tone, place an mp3 in the ringtone folder).
Thanks so much for the help, worked like a charm (ringtones folder).
I recently had just bought a 32gb Sandisk micro SD card for my HTC Evo. When I hook my phone up to computer, change it to a disk drive and go to transfer music it say it goes on my phone. But when I go to play the songs, they just skip 1 after another after another. And non of them work. I dont know if I need to make a special folder or something on my phone. But then when I load up Astro to look through my files it shows it on my sd card, but that its not actually there. If that makes any sense.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance..
That's strange. I just bought the Wintec 32GB Class 10 and it works fine. I did notice, though, after I load up a bunch of music, that it takes Android a long time to catalog it all. It sits there, screen flashing, popping up the "Updating Media Files" notification for a long time. The songs don't show up in my music player until this process is complete. Does your phone do that as well?
Are the song from itunes? Do they have DRM?
Did you try formatting the SD card?
Sent from my Evo using XDA app
Device: HTC Evo 4G
Rom: Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5
Kernel: netarchy-toastmod-4.2.1 cfs
Recovery: Amon_RA-supersonic
what music player are you using? I suggest DoubleTwist.
im just using the default media player that came with it. And not from itunes. Im just linking my computer to it, and dragging and dropping into my sd card. normally ill make a folder and name it music. dunno if i need to do anything maybe to the folder?
Try searching for SD card spreed fix.....I had the same problem
HTC EVO
I use poweramp and I usually have to go into the settings and tell it to "rescan folders" and sometimes you can select what folders it looks in. Check for similar settings in your player.
You have been EVOfied.
Have you looked at how large the files are on the SD Card? Making sure they actually contain data (the music)?
Can you play the files from the SD Card when you have the phone mounted to the computer?

Well when the phone is mounted, it cant read anything off the card.. Theres something going wrong from it being on my computer to when it transfers to the SD card and then is un mounted. I just dont know what that is..
Create a folder on the sd card named music and drop them all in there. Then make sure in settings the sd card is mounted. home screen/settings/sd card and storage. I think it causes issues when you just drop them on the root of the sd card. Some don't have a problem but others do.
Do you have a SD card reader you could use to check out the contents of the card not through the phone?
Agree with the post to make a music folder, that's how mine is.
