Dear all
I am a noob XDA2 owner. I have tom tom installed and would like your opinions on the coolest software to add. Id like to watch DVDs and love playing games and usual pc stuuff.
Any sugestions welcome. 8)
pockettv and
and pocketMVP are the best movie viewers imho
about games then you are a bit too unspc i mean most people like playing games some pref chess some pref quake ....
Coolest App
On top of what has already been said...
After spending weeks on this forum and on Handango this is my hit parade:
DVD:
mMedia: to convert DVDs or any other videos in almost any format. (I haven't tryed yet as I am waiting to buy a large memory card, but from the specs seem the most complete programs while other limits you in term of input or output format)
Games:
Monopoly is gorgeous
Other interesting games are Chopper Alley, TombRider, when anyone finds a decent first person shooter please let me know
There is a C64 Emulator which should enable you to play old commodore 64 games (they where good) unfortunatly I didn't manage to get the app to work on my XDAII, but I haven't tried too hard... it should be possible
Usefull SW:
Ringtonez: to get personalized ringtones by caller
A profile manager: to change the phone settings according to your envirronment and much more... I am still trying to understand which one to choose between PocketZen and Phone Profiles... I have dedicated a post to it but with few responses... help anyone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=10168&highlight=
MS Reader: English or foreign language to english dictionaries
HP Mobile Printing
iMove Messanger: Universal Messanger
PocketLingo: if u need a specialized dictionary
ConverterCE (usefull and free)
Must have utilities (they are not cool, but they would make a difference):
-BT Tools: when you face yourself with the limits of the units BT app.
-SpriteBackup: must have back up utility... your device would hardreset, no matter how carefull you are, and even if your contact might be sync a lot of other info and settings are not, so u want to back up and xBackUp is just too slow to be used)
-PocketNav: Close bottons function that really closes apps (free or cheap; does just that and does it well)
-ScaryBear (fix a PPC2003 bug that slows your XDA after every reset, free)
-Wakeup Tweak: fix another bug with PPC2003
Have fun!
Chris
cchris
well there is doom 1&2 and quake 1 and 2 wolfenstien3d and the second version forget the name spear of destiny or something
and then there is heretic (really got a kick out of that back in the day in MP where you could hex your opponent into a chicken) and hexen (heretic2)
then there are some Fps rpg's around
suppose since counterstrike is based on ½life which is based on quake2 engien it could be portet and i have played it on my laptop in 320_240
it could be possbile to port it and even play online using wifi or gprs
Bf1942 or unreal though i dont think we'll se ports of untill they release windows CE 5 with a directx mobile and mobile mmx

I just got my X1, and the lag has got me down a bit :\
However, I'm still sure that its a great phone, and has tons of potential.
The thing is... before I got the phone, I had so many ideas of what I wanted to do with it. But now that I have it... I'm completely blank o_o
What have you guys been doing with your X1s?
How are you enjoying it?

The first thing is forget about the stock rom and try some cooked rom.
lol, well this is my first winmo phone, so I really dont know what I'm doing
No clue how to flash a new ROM and dont wanna risk bricking my phone by screwing up >.>
In addition to the regular texting and im'ing. I use it to listen to music watch movies, do quick editing on office suites, streaming with orb. Also used for taking photos and videos and uploading to facebook.
It all comes down to the apps I suppose.
Satnav
Podcasts (stupid word for audio streams)
RSS feeds
VNC
Minutes manager
Telemarketing blocker
C# IDE
It's like a little computer. There's not much it can't do. TV on demand would be nice.

Yep, and pRSSreader will do all your podcasts if you enable 'download enclosures' in the settings.

That is awesome!!! Being a .Net developer myself, i'm excited to try this one out...
the best thing i do is to unlock everything on my rom without flash them so i dont have to void my warrenty and got touch flo 3d pannel, coreplayer to watch high quality movies, i got a 16gb to store all of them!
I currently use on my X1:
-Subsembly FinPhone (real mobile banking from all over the connected world)
-TTQV Pathaway (Moving Map and GPS Tracking Software)
-Basic4ppc Version 5.80 (BASIC IDE for PPC)
-complex Pocket Excel sheets i.e. for forecasts, financial calculations,
budgeting, event planning
And: I'd really like to try vsNotepad (by VirtualSpaghetti) but it suffers from an uncalibrated UI

Wow, sounds like you guys are all doing such professional things with your X1s
Im still trying to get used to mine and finding the right programs..
Where do you guys find your programs? Ive only looked at places like handango and getjar.
I use the following
Online:
Orb
Logmein
Windows Live Mesh
Google Maps
Offline:
Tomtom
Coreplayer
Resco File Explorer
Worms (awesome game)

Well it's a C# IDE. Very nice too. Get it from here, and see what you think. It doesn't need to be installed: it just runs.
Speaking of cool apps for PocketPC, PocketBlender is a great idea, but I find it unfinished and unstable. Does anyone know of other free CAD viewers?
TrackMe is nice. Again, I'd be interested to hear of alternatives since Trackme depends on .net and an SQLserver.
Nicetrack looks to be brilliant, but it doesn't work on the X1. Apparently only a minor source-code tweak is needed to fix this.

I just think what I want, then enter it into a search engine along with the words "for Windows Mobile" or "for PocketPC"

This seems like a good place to mention OBD II on the X1. Somewhat of a challenge since we need to use the MicroSDIO for a comm interface, and www.obd2cables.com have a minimum order of 250pc for custom cables. OBD II is the thing which mechanics use to look at what's gone wrong with your car. I've not had any luck starting topics on the subject.
Nice one Pyrojester
I didn't realise LogMeIn was available for windows mobile. Now I can work while i'm away from work/home.

- tweaking the system *lol*
- mass storage
- office docs
- writing longer docs
- ...
I use it to access VNC computers or remote desktops. It's quite useful for FTP access too.
You can do pretty much what you want with it.
Though WVGA is great for VNC, remote desktop, FTP browsing, Corecodec, Xnview, TomTom, MSN (IM), and of course mails.
nothing as i amm still trying hard to tweak it LOL
What's is your must haves for your elf/elfin?
Myself i love the youtube and facebook applications
And Warcraft II is my only game - maybe you got something to spice my elf up?
Check out the hacking and development threadm you can google that.
lots of stuff there.
I got Sims 3 here.
mmm.
I have a similar question. Which are some good websites from where we can download/buy applications and games for WM, esp ones utilizing touch?
Hahaha.
Google for Windows Mobile free Applicationsp
PM me and I can share with you a few sites.
I have iContact and ThumbCal for my fave apps.
I'll try iContact, the default one is really difficult to navigate with fingers
I was thinking, why not post some of our favourite apps here, so that everyone could enjoy them.
You may post one or more, preferably not well known ones. Everyone knows about SPB Online, CorePlayer and Skype, but not about Slick, HTC mp3 trimmer, etc. If you don't have a rare one to contribute post your favourite, no matter how popular it is, maybe someone here will find it useful. Post anything, the important thing is to share .
As usual, no warez are allowed. Links to developers' sites are welcome, but I don't see the point, you can find them with google in seconds.
Here is mine:
Kinoma Play - media centre app that scans your phone for all your pics, vids and music and plays them in the app itself. Catalog of online radio stations and access to many sites from the app itself - YouTube, Flickr, Picasa and more . All in one media app.
can you upload mp3-trimmer please, or someone else who has this programm. i dont really have somethin new, think there are not that much usefull apps anymore which i dont know... but would need mp3trimme. cya
l like this game ---worldofwarcraft

Well, why didn't you share one of those many apps tha you know of? That's the point of this thread . Just google the trimmer, but be sure to get the VGA version. The other one is too small.
I like how 100+ people have checked out the thread and didn't post anything, probably thinking "why is no one posting anything?" while NOT contributing themselves lol.
And you, yes YOU, will you post something after you read this, or will you choose not to be part of the community?
Here is another one to keep things rolling:
pPod - it's an iPod mp3 player. Same skin as the iPod classics. All the functions work, including the touchscreen scrollwheel and the backlight. Fully functional iPod for your WinMo ROFL .
WKTask - maybe this is well known to y'all, but it's an awesome task manager that tiles your running apps in the top menu bar so you can see them and open them or kill them, basically like XP or Vista.

2 - I can always show iTards that, I can have iPod on my X1, but they can't get WMP on their iCraps MUAHHAAHAHAH. Plus, I love having as much as possible on my phone.
3 - I didn't see you contributing to the thread, thus rendering your own post useless and hateful....

Lol, it turns out I have had those Facebook and Twitter "widgets" all the time (I haven't used the app in a long time ).They work perfectly. Unfortunatelly I use neither of those services on a regular basis...
I suggest Worldcard Mobile. It is a helpful app for businessman.
Manage contact with camera and save into address book directly.

Here is another one from me:
W.M.D. (Web Video Downloader) - Amazing soft that lets you download ANY video from YouTube and other video sites (including 18+ ones).
No apps or games but something I find usefull on SE phones and directed at those users who might not be aware of it: to mute incoming call ringtone, click volume rocker up once and to cancell incoming call just double click.
Hello,
it´s my first post I´m also looking everytime for new stuff for my x1. some good apps which i use are SpeeedReader (based on googlereader), nimbuzz (chatclient) and to blogging i use shozu.

Hi there, today I've recieved my tp2 But I saw you can run warcraft 2 on a htc diamond i believe is it possible for the tp2 to run this ?
THanks in Advance
yes its possible just search for it on the forum
maybe its an idea to go to http://wvga.pda4you.org/wvga-games-480x800/wvga-games.html
you have to register first but there you can find a lot of fun games for free and also warcraft
Thanks man this is so awsome !!!!!
Also do a search for Pocket UFO 1.26 - it's a Windows mobile remake of the classic UFO: Enemy Unknown. Great stuff if you like a bit of turn based action/strategy.
EDIT: Also, if you are familiar with DOS and can fiddle around with settings, you can download PocketDOS and/or DosBox for PPC. You need to tune the settings some, but that enables you to download original games for DOS and play them on the PPC. Personally I've been playing Eye of the Beholder 2 quite a bit the last few days, after that I'm playing Monkey Island I bet.
WOW wait dosbox on my phone FANTASTIC but does it support the qwerty keybord ? And Monkey Island great game my favourite only is there scummvm for windows mobile ??
