I didnt know how 2 name this thread, I need an app. for pc that wil check (once a hour)my IP adress on desktop and when it changes it sends email thru outlook for example with new IP. Problem is i use remote desktop on my Universal to connect to home computer (to start some downloads...). but my IP addres changes from time to time. I know thats litle bit of topic, but if anyone knows somethink like described above, thanks

I just wondered, and the other thing is that it looks like you need to be logged off to then login to xp with t.s.c. Is this the case?

if you've got a dynamic ip, you just type it into the server box don't you?
Re logging in/out, check out the concurrent user patch discussed somewhere, might be on my webpage. Negates the need to do that on compatible software.

Yes you can connect to and from a dynamic IP, I've used dyndns.org in the past to get a dns name that automatically updates when your IP changes.
No, you don't need to log off if you are logging on with the same user name. Also, your user account has to have a password and in the list of users allowed to connect using TSC

Background to my problem
At our office, we have Small Bus Server 2003 with the new Exchange SP installed. Our web site domain name is not mapped to our local server, but hosted on a external commercial one.
Our router/firewall has one fixed IP address that is connected to the web, while all the workstations have local address like 192.168.10.xxx, etc.. To configure Activesnc to work from outside our network, all I had to do is enter the fixed IP address into the server settings in Active sync and it connects.
The problem occurs if the Wizard is connected to a PC via USB in the network. At this point, active sync is looking for an external IP address instead of the real address of the server which is 192.168.10.xxx.
So, I configured a custom DNS with our domain hosting provider to have "mail.domain.name" redirected to our fixed IP address. With a little tweaking on the router, this works! In ActiveSync I can enter just "mail.domain.name" instead of the external IP and it works from the outside.
Now, to sync while connected to the network, I have to manually change the server address every time to reflect 192.168.10.100. Ideally, i would like to somehow tell my local server that any request inernally sent to "mail.domain.name" gets redirected to 192.168.10.100 instead of going out on the web. This would solve my problem of changing the server address everytime I'm in the office.
Does anyone know how to do this in Small Business Server 2003? Is there another way to keep the same server settings in/out of our network?

Yet another way that your device can be protected is whenever it's able to hit the internet. It would update a dynamic DNS entry on your account at DynDNS.org with hopefully a public IP address it gets and from there, if you have a program like SOTI Pocket Controller Professional, you can instantly gain remote access to the device. That's just one program of many that could benefit from this.
Is there any program for the Pocket PC that updates a dynamic DNS name there?

If you look up posts by OdeeanRDeathshead you will find a discussion somewhere (sorry, don't remember the exact link) that you can't get a public IP over GPRS connection, so unless the phone it self initiates a connection you can not reach it.
This means that unless you device is connected via WIFI a program like this would be useless.

I found an IP using www.whatsmyip.org. For example 123.123.123.123
I'm using my phone to connect to an Exchange Server. But I only want my phone to reach te server, so I have set up my firewall to forward (NAT) certain ports from source 123.123.123.123 to the Exchange Server. The rest of the IP's are going somewhere else.
But the IP changes of course, guess T-Mobile has more gateways in use. Maybe to another everytime you connect.
Is there a program that sends a query to whatsmyip.org (or another site like this) and then updates the IP address in a DNS record (like dyndns.org). Any help would be appreciated.
I can connect my device to the in-house Wlan and I get assigned an IP address like it should. I am able to browse the net (IE) using the Wlan and I can even go to the HTTP webmail site but when I set up a POP3 e-mail account I get the error message that I cannot connect with the current settings. Suggestions?
The other strange thing is that I am able to login on a local server using Terminal Services, but I can only connect to the IP address, not the hostname.
Perhaps I should mention that I have an own domain so the mailbox I'm trying to connect is a completely seperate mailbox and should work 'native' with POP3 port 25 settings. This shouldn't be a problem as far as I can see, but it still doesn't work...
I did some more testing, the weird thing is that I can send e-mails using the WLAN connection, but cannot receive them. The connection towards the server seems to be good (I didn't use seperate settings for SMTP) so DNS seems to be correct as well.
Right, I'm not under the impression a terribly large population of users are dying just to solve my problem, but since I located the source of the problem I thought I'd post it here for other users to find.
The problem I was faced with had actually nothing to do with the WiFi at all, it was the POP3 server that was the problem. The connection was fine, sending the mails was fine it's just that the POP3 daemon of the Direct Admin hosting control panel (vmpop3d-e) is unable to work with Windows Mobile 5 due to some kind of problem I don't even begin to understand (nor would I want to).
If you have your own domain and your hoster is running the Direct Admin control panel you won't be able to use the e-mail POP3 function. Instead, use the IMAP4 function which does work.

when you set up your mailbox (menu - tools - options) go to the 3rd screen and click options. There you tell it what connection you want. I'd be willing to bet thats where your problem is.
E-mail client doesnt work on my wizard eather. I can receive mail, but sending it is impossibl. I think I tried everything.
If anyone have any suggestions what can I do please tell me.

You need to first install the client software provided by your're ISP. So if you use T-mobile you can let T-mobile send the parameters via SMS to yor're cellphone. Just login to your're ISP provider for that on the WWW.

hello all,
gots me a problem . im going to japan november, want to remote desktop back to here when necessary and be able to access a hdd here for dumping pictures. i have a lan here, wifi, it has a connection surfs the net etc.
it has an ip address from my router. is there a program or command that will get me the kind of command functionality of a dos/command prompt? ping, ipconfig, etc?
then if i can get them to talk, what steps do i need to take to remote in. do i need software? i enabled remote here, setup a user (vista BTW).
i cant access here from the laptop with xp either that one can ping. its also wifi currently. im obviously missing something and would appreciate any help, or web site links etc to show me what ive missed.

so this was for PDA, and this is for full connection via SSH VPN encrypted connection. I work for Infineon/Qimonda company, and there is strict security policy in here. So we have not permitted to ping, or created FTP connection with outside and many other services (like sending files through ICQ and etc.). There is one way, use your own SSH tunell ;-) on my home PC I have installed WinSSHD Bitvise server liseninng on port 443 (which cannot be blocked, because all our lotus notes databases is secured with HTPPS) and from work I can connect easily to home. Then is easy to create FTP connection, or terminal, or full GUI terminal (mstsc.exe e.g.) Link to this server (not free) and also to very good client (free) is HERE
I also have few routers connected to stable IP´s adress, which also have VPN features. Then is easy for me to connect to my home lan from everywhere.
