Hi all,
I had the alarm issue when it would not switch off so I deleted all notifications in the notifications list. I've since learned this was a bad thing to do! My only real problem at the moment is being unable to connect to ActiveSync. I get assigned the correct IP address and activesync goes green but it doesn't connect and I get an error message. I've check all settings/fixes listed in about 4 seperate threads but none have helped.
If someone has Buzz's TaskManger v2.7 installed can you list which notifications you have listed, especially any which look AticveSync related?
TaskManager is available here: http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_phorum&Itemid=125&phorum_query=read,27,15027
Edit: Connecting to ActiveSync via Bluetooth is fine. It's only the USB connection which appears broke.
Thanks!
Gavin.

marisa4755 that is a particularly useful link you give to cure the lost Active Sync connection. So good in fact I think it should be re-written (perhaps tailored) and credited to Aficionado + fattyfattybombom, might put my mind to this for the wiki.
It also serves as a reminder that although scarybear is free it does allow you to easily delete key entries in notifications. The other tools memmaid and SKtools etc at least make it more troublesome though still possible to delete replog.exe.
Mike
I agree with you. I found it by accident when wondering what a lot of the 'stuff' in my notifications queue was, with a view to - should it be there. So I googled this one and that link came up.
When we look into the queue, some things are easily identifiable, others are guessable, and some are a bit of a mystery. It's sometimes a bit trial and error deciding what stays and what goes. Anyone producing a guide to this would have to be at least up for sainthood in my book.

Yes indeed, in fact I'll put some work into that, although I recently cleared a lot of mine out so getting a full list of items that show up may be a problem.
Meantime I have adapted the info in the link you gave and posted as a thread - not on wiki yet:

Mike
That's really good, makes it very clear. I'm sure this happens to lots of people and the only thing they know will fix it is a hard reset.
If it helps, these seem to be the non clock/calendar or application specific notifications in my queue (original ROM):
Windows\calupd.exe
AppRunAtTime
repllog.exe
/sched /remote /h
repllog.exe
AppRunAfterRndisFnDetected
repllog.exe
AppRunAfterTimeChange
repllog.exe
AppRunAtRs232Detect
clocknot.exe
AppRunAtTime
clocknot.exe
AppRunAfterTimeChange
clocknot.exe
AppRunAfterRestore
CALNOT.EXE
\Windows\TimeWizard.exe
AppRunAtTime
\\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\TimeWizardTimeChange
\\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\TimeWizardWakeUp
CALNOT.EXE
AppRunatTime
CALNOT.EXE
AppRunAfterRestore
CALNOT.EXE
AppRunAfterTimeChange
I haven't yet done my 'fake server' trick so some of the repllogs may change after that.
Hope this helps
@Marisa
Thanks for the info. Like you said some are guessable others will take some investigation - see you in a few weeks!!!
Mike
Hi all,
Thanks very much for taking time to give all the info, including creating a new thread to help others. Unfortunately nothing has helped here. I've created all the notifications using either TaskManger or MemMaid, resetting the device each time but I'm still getting the same behaviour. Even when I manually run repllog.exe.
The only thing I can think of which I have not tried is that the repllog.exe entries for AppRunAfterRndisFnDetected and AppRunAtRs232Detect have aguments also but this isn't mentioned in any post here so I guess I'm clutching at straws.
I'll see what I can do before Monday then I think it's a hard reset.
Gavin.
You mention in your first post that you get an error message, what is that message. Sorry, should have asked this first instead of making assumptions. That might give an extra clue.
Hi Marisa,
Good point.
On the mobile I get "Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter and IP address in Network settings" although if I goto Settings > Connections > Network Cards and check I've been assigned 169.254.2.1 and I've tried assigning a fixed address in Remote-NDIS Host but it still doesn't work. Activesync spends ages at 'connecting'. I did get an error message on my laptop (testing now with my desktop) from activesync along the lines of "can not connect to mobile device. click OK to troubleshoot or cancel to end".

Have heard of folks with this kind of problem who got it working by uninstalling ActiveSync and re-installing latest version of thee net. You see in your case it looks like repllog is opening active sync so it's not the repllog being missing problem. One other thought is to go to the active sync setting that says delete mobile device and then reconnect the mobile and see if setting up a new connection works. (Only thoughts of things to try before a hard reset!!)

Gavin,
Try this. I copied it from a posting on this site a long time ago and put it into an Outlook Note, so I can't acknowledge the original poster (my apologies to whomever you are).
(Title bar) Pocket PC Networking
(Exclamation point yield sign warning icon)
(Error body) Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings.
Solution:
1. Remove the PPC from the cradle.
2. Edit the PPC registry. I used PHM Registry Editor Version 0.7.
3. Look for the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\RNDISFN1\Parms\TcpIp
Change
EnableDHCP=1
to
EnableDHCP=0
4. Quit the registry editor using Tools > Exit. I did not soft reset the PPC.
5. After making the above registry change, dock the PPC. I waited more than 30 minutes and still no error. Before the registry change, the error appeared between 1 to 3 minutes after docking the PPC.

I'm sure the info here will help others though.

I suppose you have tried unticking the advanced functionality box?
Start/settings/Connections/USB to PC
Update:
I forgot about my HTC Universal. I loaded TaskManager onto the Universal and copied the repllog.exe notifications one by one and it now works...
These are as follows:
Notification > Task > Arguments > Type > Event
Application repllog.exe /sched /remote /h CNT_TIME None - (date and time)
Application repllog.exe AppRunAfterRndisFnDetected CNT_EVENT RNDISFN interface instantiated.
Application repllog.exe AppRunAfterTimeChange CNT_EVENT The system time has changed.
Application repllog.exe AppRunAtRs232Detect CNT_EVENT An RS232 connection is made.

My company runs an exchange server that i can connect to via SLL on the web. However, I always got an invalid certificate message. On 2003 devices on ran certchk and i could synschronize my mail, calender and contacts.
Now - with my JJ - i can not get to my mail anymore because of this invalid certificate. I does not help to download the certificate to my device, since it is invalid.
Is there any reg hack, apps or whatever i can use to overcome this?
Thx
Ronaldovic,
Try exporting the root certificate from the Certificate Authority in "DER" format, copy it to the JJ and run it. This should work as the JJ is not certificate locked.
Ferg.
I did - and when i look in settings-certificates - it shows in the list of certificate but with an enddate of somewhere in 2003 (so it is not valid).
Again, with certchk in 2003 devices it all worked flawlessly.
Are the certificates still be the problem now? Or is it something else?
When i sync, i get an error: 0x80072F17
Ah sorry, I read your mail but didn't really read it and assumed I knew what you were saying.
If you can get a reg editor for the JJ (I use something called "Mobile Registry Editor" which is a PC-based app and works through ActiveSync), change DWORD Value under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Activesync\Partners\[Secure] to 0 I gather this will do it.
On the point of the certi though, can you not get the CA to issue a new certificate to the Exch box? When connecting through SSL, ActiveSync doesn;t give you a "Yeah connect, I don't care!" dialog box as OWA does.
Ferg.
got a good reg editor, but can not find the last [secure] part...what do u mean by that? For example below ..\partners i see two entries(default) and (ServerNameChanged). and two directories with strange numbers.
About the certificate thing...if i understand u correctly i will never connect if i do not have a valid certificate?
I appreciate the help!!
YEAH!!! Great, got it working, thx to u!
I just love this forum.
Glad to hear it!
I am back....
The sync goes ok now, but every time i send a new mail, it gets send twice. In my outbox on the JJ there is one email, when i receive i see two coming in (exactly the same)
Any1?
i can get it to look like its working by turning off ssl. e.g. it says sycing 20/20 emails. However when i go to messages there are none there! Similarily contacts, tasks and calendar items appear to be syncing in active sync, but they just dont show up!
Hi,
I have run into the same problem.
Used the tips on changing the registry (for which I really thank you!!!).
However, it seemed working until I realize that my Treo 700w keeps asking for the password. No matter how many times I enter my password correctly, it just keeps asking the password over and over again. It does not save my password even if I select "save password" option.
Have you run into this problem and found any workaround?
Thanks in advance. Bo.
Boryu,
Remove and re-add the server source.
I've had this a few times and it's well annoying! This seems to do the trick though.
Ferg.
same issue
i have the same issue,
i used registry editor but its not allowing me to add the reg key!!
am i doing something wrong,, and were do i add the Secure Dword?
Why don't you just renew the certificate? Just right click the website folder within IIS 6.0 and select Properties. There is a security tab (Directory Security?) within which you can renew an existing certificate.
I had the same problem getting push email to work, and renewing the certificate fixed the problem.

Hi, I am looking for some help regarding a sync problem I am having with my XDA Mini S. I have recently re-installed my copy of Windows XP Home. Prior to this re-install I was able to sycn with my XDA using activesync 4.1. Since the re-install however when trying to sync I am presented with an error on the desktop machine.
Support Code:86000107
I have trawled the internet to find a solution, but to no avail. I have tried the new 4.2 beta of active sync and tried un-installing the software several times aswell as removing sync profiles form the unit.
Any help would be apreciated. I am using ROM version 2.21.4.1 WWE and Windows Mobile Version 5.0 (Build 14847.2.0.0)
Thanks

Thanks for the reply! I had tried searching the forum first, but my choice of keywords obviously let me down.
I have tried both disabling the firewall and ensuring DHCP is enabled. I am using the windows firewall controlled by Microsoft's Windows OncCare Live, and within which all processes associated with active sync have been granted permission to access the network.
The phone appears to be able to send data to the desktop pc, but the desktop fails for some reason. Any further advice?
thanks
Do you hear the usual "bing bong" type noise that Windows makes when a USB device is plugged in?
Does ActiveSync on the desktop even start up?
If so, on your PC goto Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections. When you plug the PDA in, does a new connection profile eventually show up in the Network Connections window? It will be called something like Local Connection #6 or something similar, I've renamed mine.
Yes everything connects and establishes a connection. I can browse the device and even upload to and from it. Active sync even tries to sync with the device, but then shows the error detailed above. The XDA was able to upload my contacts to outlook for example after the re-install of windows, but nothing is synced from the desktop pc to the xda.

See the Microsoft Knowledge base..........
............there's something I remember when I had this prob.
For me, it was ZoneAlarm firewall [free edition] which doesn't allow individual ports to be configured, just application rules [you can in Pro version] but in my research, I remember seeing something about Activesync not working even though the exception was set in Windows Firewall.
Try with NO firewall at all - probably best to pull your network cable if you're worried whilst you test ActiveSync with no firewall at all.
I'm sorry I can't post the reference but you should be able to find it again.
I now don't use any s/w firewall - I have a switch router with hardware router built in which shows as 'stealthed' to the outside world on all ports @ www.grc.com [ShieldsUp] and all my WM5 stuff works - ActiveSync and WiFi
I didn't get the error you did, mine just connected then hung whilst showing 'Syncronising'............'cept it never did !!! LOL but I could do all the other things as you describe....just no syncing.
Thanks for the reply. I have already tried without a firewall enabled at all but with no luck. I am trying to work out what is different with this installation tot he previous that worked.
I have found that I need to dissable the Sync of my contacts and it works with the Caldener etc. I have no idea why this is, but its the only solution I can find anywhere and its very frustrating.
That's a weird one, not be able to sync contacts but can do calendar events.
Have you tried a reinstall of outlook?
If so then, and this is just a guess, it could be that there is something wrong with a particular contact entry that's causing things to go wrong. Perhaps some invalid characters in any one of the many available fields (name, num, email address, website, notes etc).
Some solutions that worked for me
I had the problem with contacts not syncing when everything else would. My solution, which worked for me, was to:
1. disable 'contacts' in ActivSync options
2. sync as normal
3. disconnect device, reconnect device, sync again
4. re-enable 'contacts' in ActivSync options
5. contacts should now re-sync
Incidentally I found many problems with the ActiveSync partnership after restoring the device from a backup. The solution is to delete everything in the \Windows\ActiveSync folder on the pocket PC, go into ActiveSync options on the pocket pc and remove the partnership there. Finally delete the partnership on your PC.
I am running V-Com systemsuite on my PC (which I think uses the Sygate firewall) this firewall never interferes with my XDA Exec but oddly enough does so with my XDA mini S. If I disable the firewall - problem still exists. If I shut down the firewall completely (keeping Windows XP firewall running for security) the problem goes away.
Maybe some of this will help

I had moved the Outlook.pst file to a location other than the default. When I moved it back and created a new profile the error had gone. thanks for the help everyone.
Sounds like it was a corrupt pst file causing the problem then. I'm glad you got it all working now

First of all you have to open some ports in the sygate firewall: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/sygate.mspx
In my experience it's necessary to change the RNDIS driver settings in the mobile phones registry as well!
Use a regedit tool like PHM Registry Editor.
Here are the settings to be added (or to be changed respectively):
Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\RNDIS
Name of the Value to add: MTU
Type : DWORD
Data: 1514 (Value is Decimal)
Name of Value to add: MaxOutTransfer
Type: DWORD
Data: 1642 (Value is Decimal)
After a reset my Prophet (XDA Neo) synchronized well with active sygate firewall!
Hi All,
Same ole Active Sync Error message problems that others have complained about:
"Support Code 85010014"
I am using Active Sync 4.1 and Outlook 2003. I am using my company's laptop so uninstalling/installing Outlook was not an option. I do think the error is appearing b/c I am trying to sync while Outlook is off-line. Common sense says just put it on-line. Tried that! My Outlook will only work online when our VPN is connected but is appears that Active Sync and our VPN are not compatable. Connect device - VPN gets disconnected. Connect VPN - then device is no longer connected. Our VPN is by Nortel. Any suggestions??
HELP!!!!!
edit: added Active Sync version
bump....I really need help with this one. Without being able to sync with my Outlook it almost makes the device useles.... Thanks.
Hi,
Have you tried moving your storage to your computer? I did it on my corp laptop and I think it was part of the fix for me. I believe it is called remote store if you do a search in help you should find the directions. If not then post back and I will post the ones our it folks set out.
Or perhaps you need the usbswitch.exe program to change the connection to usb serial then it might not knock off your vpn connection.
Where else to try???
Ok...so I got it that no one can figure out a solution to this problem. Can someone please suggest some place for me to go? I tried searching Microsofts website for a forum/newsgroup I can post this question to but I came up with nothing. Any suggestions would be really beneficial!!!!

How are you connecting your device? Bluetooth,USB, WiFi...? Maybe some more details.
You shouldn't need to reinstall Outlook. Try the following:
Right Click on "Mailbox - Person Name".
Choose Properties.
Click on Advanced.
Click on Advanced.
Tick "Use Cached Exchange Mode" (make a note of the old setting).
Click on General.
Select "Manually control connection state" (make a note of the old setting).
Tick "Choose the connection type when starting" (make a note of the old setting).
Tick "Connect with the network" (make a note...).
Close the dialogue with "OK", then all other dialogues.
Close Outlook.
Re-open Outlook.
Choose "Connect".
Allow Outlook to synchronise.
Close Outlook.
Re-open Outlook.
Choose "Work Offline".
Disconnect your VPN.
Plug in your phone.
Regards,
Jon "The Nice Guy".
Another tip???
Jon,
Thanks. I just tried that and still got the error message. I followed every strep you wrote, one-by-one!! But the error message still came back up. :?
Also, I am trying to do this via USB. The laptop is not BT capable and I broke the IR window during one of the many drops it suffered from.
Thanks.
SOLUTION FOUND!!!!
ALAS!!! A solution has been found. I found the link to the site below in the Microsoft ActiveSync newsgroup.
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync/msg/7c134690e78923cb
Basically they suggest removing a script blocking of an antivirus program via the Windows Registry Editor.
It worked like a charm. It took a few minutes and I still haven't tested to see if it can be done while Outlook is on-line but I can deal with syncing while it is off-line.
Okay - I was having no end of problems connecting to Activesync and syncing to Exchange (local desktop would work ok), sometimes activesync on the desktop pc would stay at 'connecting' other times it would try to connect, but fail with error code 80072efd or 0x85002003. I also kept getting the error message on the PDA - unable to connect with your network settings (or something like it...).
After a couple of days trying to get it working (and occasionally succeeding after hard resets etc) I started investigating...
So, I checked a few things... Activesync 4.X uses a Remote-NDIS host on the PDA to make an IP based lan-type connection to your pc. Check your settings in
Settings > Connections > Network Cards > Network Adapters
for the 'Remote-NDIS Host'.
Mine had been set on 'Use Specific IP Address'. Change this to 'Use Server-Assigned IP Address'
Now check that it says ' My network card connects to' and that work is selected.
Now check Settings > Connections > Network Cards > Connections'
and check that the proxy server states - This network connects to the Internet' and that there is no proxy server specified.
I don't know if this will sort any issues out for anyone else - but it worked a treat with mine, so having spend days trying to get it working I thought I would share my horribly annonying experiences!!!
Hope it helps,
Liamo
on secoind thoughts - this has caused me more problems... grr I hate activesync - ignore my babbeling....
If I sort it properly I will post again..
i'm off to eat some apple-humble pie.

Okay,
so I uninstalled version 4.1 of activestink and installed the latest version 4.2. I created the pairing and hey presto - it's synching again.
Yup - it's great fun.
ohh, I also hard-reset in between 'cause I was annoyed!!!
;-)
liam
this worked for me.
i too faced the 'spinning wheel' problem with active sync.
i figured out that it was the configuration of the desktop or laptop and not the wizard as such.
1. after connecting the USB, i cud see messages like RNDIS device ready and all.
2. after this click on the lan icon in the taskbar of desktop. it displays all the lan connections. select the one that is for windows based mobile device.
3. in the properties for this lan connection, in general tab, check the box for Internet protocol.
4. In the advanced tab, click on settings for windows firewall.
5. check if activesync is added to the exceptions list. if not, check the box for activesync. click ok.
this should solve the problem. i sometimes have to do each time i connect thru usb.
hope this works.
hey guy i also had the same problem and although the first post was somewhat helpful, i still had to take an extra step in order for activesync to connect properly.
1. after changing to " Use Server-Assigned IP Address" in the connections tab i then had to:
2.go to the "usb to pc" interface and uncheck "enable advanced network funciotnality"
thanks for this post - i couldnt get my activesync to woork for the past 5 days
Activestink 4.2 won't even start on my computer
I don't really need it anyway

This is the trick I found out:
Connect your phone, wait till activesync starts.
Run taskmanager on your pc and kill:
WCESMgr.exe and wcescomm.exe
Go to your explorer (again PC) and doubleclick:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcescomm.exe
Activesync will run now without errors (but doesn't sync!).
click on explore, copy the cab to the phone.
Disconnect the usb-cable, start the cab on the phone.

ActiveSync must be one of the most frustrating applications out there. I have tried all recommended fixes and still cannot get ActiveSync to recognize my MDA. The last time I did a sync was 9/06. Too much BS using this application. I have searched all over the web and cannot find any application that will allow me to update my PIM file without ActiveSync. So, I guess I will finally give up on this. Thanks to all of you who have tried to help me. Thank You!!
I've been trying for days to connect to my laptop and the file above 'rndis to serial' finally did the trick... I'd read elsewhere about turning off your firewall etc, in the end I'd uninstalled all my firewall, anti spyware and antivirus programs...
Thank god for everyone here at XDA-developers... there wasn't anything useful on the Microsoft site.
Eureka,Answer to Activesync popup"Unable to obtain server assigned IP" while syncing
Well, I am pretty sure that I had seen most posts/threads involving people having the same problem, having a popup during Activesync with USB, with header "Pocket PC NEtworking " and the body saying "Unable to obtain Server assigned IP Address. Try again later or enter an IP Address in Networking settings". I had tried the off fix, not including registry fix, and then I ran across this. I think this link will help everyones problem that use Activesync (and believe me, seems like a virtual ton of people ). I include the link . I tried the same fix, and everything works perfectly now.By the way, I reinstated all my devices on Bluetooth, and Com connections. I just felt that it was worthy of posting it here, and hopefully , if you agree, you can help by telling others. I include the link where I found it, and copy of the post . Hopefully I did do a good enough search, and there was no answer similar to this on XDA.

I bought my first Pocket PC HTC HERMES(or TyTN?) 3 days ago and I had this problem of "Failed to Disable RNDIS" from the beginning. I tried to solve it by changing the registery but I couldn't locate the exact registery keys(Wittcomm or etc.) so given up.
Lately, I discovered that while I was pairing my device with Pc through bluetooth accidentaly I have created new COM entries. (look in settings-connections->bluetooth->com ports)
After deleting these COM entries as well as my device itself from bluetooth settings, I tried to disable RNDIS and voila! After unchecking advanced USB to PC connection box, now I have my first connection with ActiveSync.
I hope this helps.
