hi everyone. i am wondering how many of you are able to view
http://www.youtube.com
content on your athena using opera or t'internet explorer?
I am presuming that most people at the moment are using t-mobile
devices and roms which come with bult in opera like mine. I saw a post for a new version of flash player for ppc so i updated expecting to be
able to view youtube movies.......
I have tried to update opera as well to 8.65b but this hasnt helped me.
Does anyone else have any luck?

Based on my research...there are mixed results - some can play YouTube while others can't. Someone reported that there seems to be a compatibility issue between the Flash available for PocketPC's and the Flash used to encode the video on YouTube. Another article above mentions installing the latest Opera AND Flash Player 7 for PPC. Apparently YouTube uses the latest Flash while the latest version of PocketPC Flash is equivalent to 7.x. Since 7.x isn't forward compatible then you can't watch the video's on your PPC until they come out with an updated version. This is what i found based on my Google searches. There is also a report that YouTube is making their site PocketPC compatible in May. If I find otherwise, I'll post it for you guys.
well you can play youtube vids with the new opera beta and latest flash player...at least on the jasjar
the only prob being that it is way to choppy at the moment

When you said it is choppy, could you also clarify what network were you using? Is is UMTS or HSDPA? What download speed was it when you made that observation?
Thanks for the info.

it was wifi...
the problem is that even after being completely downloaded the vids are choppy (as in 1-2 fps) during playback

how did u get to view you tube on your 8125? i have orb 2.0 and it keeps asking me for some codecs.
You have to download certain codecs and install them from there website. The codec that i installed to get the youtube videos to play was the ffdshow codec.
what do you guys mean? go to tinytube.net on your phone and you can download any video from 6 different sources, including, google, myspace, and break just to name a few.
its awesome

I second that. Nothing to install, just download away.

You CANNOT view youtube videos with tinytube.net. Plus it seems im always being queued to view a damn video. Orb is faster compared to the quality...only downside is you have to have your computer running. Which I dont find to be a problem personally
but most youtube videos are on google and myspace anyway
It seems that none of the offered solutions properly play streaming video. Anyone found any other way to do so?

I followed these instructions and the work very very well on my WM6 Kaiser.
http://www.allshadow.com/2007/11/28/how-to-watch-online-video/
Kind of off topic, but a little similar... Is anyone having problems downloading streaming media from these sites? I have an AT&T Tilt and whenever I click on a streaming link that is flashed based, Realplayer will come up and tell me this file format is not supported. But, there is no option anywhere to uninstall this thing! I also tried adding all associations /w TCPMP but still no luck. Anyone else running into this?
Youtube is working in my PIE.. I have Flash 7 and the videos are showing in the browser? Anyone else want to try?
thnx 4 the heads up
Do you have WM6. Because on my Imate Jasjam with WM5 I get the message that the browser does not support Javascript. I can run youtube on Opera Mobile 8.65 Beta on the same device.

Are you referring to the mobile version of youtube? If so, yes - I'm able to get it to stream using streaming video on my 8525. Haven't tried the standard youtube site though.
The performance of Flash 7 and Standard YouTube is terrible on my Tytn/VarioII/Hermes.
Very choppy and CPU hungry....

Yeah.. only a few videos work but it is streaming in internet explorer which is nice. I'm not talking about m.youtube.com im talking about the standard youtube.
I do have WM6 also.. vp3g's rom.
Wait until video fully loads and IE stops downloading, then video works great..
is there a way to get flash on the device without using a desktop computer. I was looking at the site using pie and I can't find it. I could use my desktop but it seems that a mobile app should be able to get a mobile version minus the midle man.
Any links?

IT'S BEEN WORKING LIKE A CHARM FOR ME.
Sorry if this is old news but I've been looking for something to play flash on my XDA for a while but I couldn't find a mention in any forums, so I tracked this down on the adobe site
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer_pocketpc/downloads/player.html
again sorry if it's old news but you never know someone else may have been looking for the same thing
Edit reason - realised people may skip this if they thought I was looking for a copy rather than I'd found one, also attached the file just in case it disappears from the adobe site
won't play
i've downloaded the flash player and installed it..but i still can't watch videos from youtube??? any suggestions on how i might fix this???

You're right! I was looking for this. Many thanks.
Actually for watching youtube videos flashplayer 7 is not enough, because, if I am right, the video streaming feature (which is used by every video site) has been introduced only in flashplayer 9.
Hi,
This tool will help you to enable flash support into your Opera browser: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4255967&postcount=21

Good luck!!! untill WP7 and then the adobe flash release for it your going to struggle. Did i say struggle?! i meant suffer.
But at least it's better than what the iPhone has, which is no flash at all. There is a reason for it but i'm on the beer tonight and i can;t remeber the exact details but it has something to do with most sites running flash 10.1 and WM can't thanks to MS missing out a couple of API's in WM 6.5 that were planned to be there.
With IE mobile you can play flash. Only if it is on youtube.
Surf with IE mobile to www.pocketnow.com or wmpoweruser.com and click on one of the vids (linked to youtube). And volia it plays in HTC player.
I have not had any issues with flash sites in skyfire, what sites in particular where you having trouble with? the youtube app is best too browser youtube with but i havent found any site that dont work which require flash when viewed in skyfire :S
Hi,
I've just installed uZard web browser and it's played everything I've thrown at it - it even plays flash games, not just videos.
Cheers,
Inclement

Oh dear, looks as though the spin doctors at Adobe have got to you. Have seen flash 10.1 running on the hd2 and it looks great (have a look around the devs section on adobe website for video). Adobe binned it because there was no point in spending any more time, effort and money in releasing it for "a dead os", and came up with that excuse which, rightly so, points the finger at M$.
Hi everybody,
Has anyone try to view flash video on the streak; has anyone issues with it and how did you resolve this? I am on a site which is broadcasting flash videos; my streak is charging them but nothing happens, any ideas? How can I resolve it? Do I have to download something? (I am running the official dell froyo update)
Thanks for answering
It SHOULD play the vids. I've tried iplayer on Wifi and it worked really well indeed (I'm using Steve's custom 2.2 build 1.4.1)
....thinks....ooh yeah - have you downloaded the flash 10.1 player from the market?

Yes I did but on some sites it's charging without playing...
hmm. any sites in particular? I'll try them on mine and see what happens (assuming they're respectable of course... )
Its a belgian news site : "rtl info.be"; the video's are charging but not playing.
well I've had a quick look and it's certainly downloading the vids BUT at work I just don't have a fast enough connection - a couple of bars of Edge is the best I get.
I'll try again at home, on Wifi. They seem to be quite big files.....
Ah just noticed - they're mp4 not flash! Hth?
