two dif 8125s? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

hello, im researching to get a 8125 and ive come across two diffrent types of 8125s. i dont know the dif other than they have dif types of keyboards. i thought maybe it was the 8100 w/o camera, but then i saw both keyboards and both were discribed with cameras... so what is the dif? i would like to get the newest version. or is it just that maybe one is a tmobile style and the other is the cingular style? one keyboard has rounded keys, and the other has a keyboard that looks like the tytn. please help!

There are two different versions, the T-Mobile MDA and the Cingular 8125. The 8125 has the Hermes-style keyboard, and the MDA has the small round keys. Same crap, different package

I'm surprised more People don't ask that. it seems like a dumb question but it really isn't . it really makes no sense as to why there would be two of the same exact product that look very different.

preciate it... what about the i-jam version?

so is there any dif in performance or reliability or anything? other than the button layout... also, is the cingular version the same size as the 8525? cause i know thats one bulky mofo... thanks for the answer btw.
i know im asking alot, but its a bit of money. i didnt do much research before buying a bb 7290 and just went off of word of mouth and ive ended up with a phone i absolutely hate. i mean, in general im a happy person. i dont really hate something inanimate. but this phone pisses me off 10-30 times daily. i hate it! so thats why im trying to find out what i can bout the 8125 and make sure i get the best one for me. seems like a qual phone, just need to know which version i should get. i have a cingular chip, but if the cingular version is as big as the 8525 then ill get an unlocked tmobile or whatever... anyway, i appreciate the feedback.

You can see all the differences; looks, keyboard and all that. I've never had an 8125 and 8525 side by side but it looks like they're REALLY close as far as size. The MDA version is smaller (I held mine next to a 8525). Mine has been totally reliable and the reception is insane, I can talk in elevators and in some underground buildings.

the mda might be a little smaller, but it's only because of the rounded corners. Also i perfer the look of the 8125, it looks a little more clean compared to the mda. These phones won't disapoint shady, they are know to be the best on the market. I have the mda, and not only is it a really nice phone, it provides me with hours of entertainment with rom flashing and trying to find cool new programs. its just a nice experience

the differences are the keyboard layout and one edition does not have a camera.
versions are wiza 100, 110 and 200
go to start/settings/system/device information/identity to find out which yours is. most will be wiza 200

How does the wizard compare to Xda EXEC ?

Hi all,
I have an XDA exec, and am looking to change it for a Wizard. How much difference (if any) is there in the speed of these devices, as I understand the Wizard doesn't use an Intel processor it uses Texas Instruments.
Does this mean having to get different binaries ? or do ARM ones still work ?
How do these devices compare... any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers
Well i had an exec and made the exact same decision as you are thinking of making. I have no regrets believe me. First and foremost the phone part works brilliantly, secondly it seems faster to me than the exec, you dont look like a tit when you answer it and it doesnt weigh a ton.
Things i miss:-
VGA Screen
3g Data speed
Nicer keyboard
Things i dont miss:-
Useless phone
Slow speed
Weighty
Large and hard to use
Any more questions just ask

Phew, glad it's working out for you Chris!
I switched too...
I had an exec and now I HAVE A WIZARD... I will never look back. I miss the VGA screen but that's about it.
Cyb
Have both but going to sell my exec.
Again will only miss the beautiful VGA screen.
Would O2 do a straight swap for the wizard (xda mini) or did you guys buy and sell yours privately ?
EDIT: Only within the first 14 days
Anyone wanna swap a XDA exec, bought in october 2005 for a xda mini (wizard) in black.
PM me if interested
Thanks for the responses gents, seems like a unanimous decision all round to me
Just to uphold the concensus ...
I got the Exec first , then an MDA Vario
I must say I agree with all that is said so far , the only downside is the size of the screen and the lack of 3G (no big deal IMO ) But in it's (the vario's) favour , it is a much better PHONE than the Exec , and I do need my device to be able to function as a phone as well as making the tea etc.
I am a bit gutted , as I loved the Exec , and feel sad that the Vario has rendered it almost obsolete (for my needs , at least)
Tried to sell the Exec on Ebay , but had a bit of trouble - and to be honest I was quite pleased , as I don't REALLY want to sell it :? , but can't really justify keeping it either !
I could have written that post!
I have the O2 mini and Exec. Why? Well I got the Exec through my work when upgrading and I got the mini for myself as it looked agreat bit of kit. Have had both for about three weeks.
Guess what is sitting there not getting used - the Exec!!! Sure it has a great screen and the keyboard is a flashback to the Psion 5 but for sheer convenience it has to the the mini - excellent (not fantastic a an actual phone but a great all rounder).
It will be inetresting what will be out this time next year!
Anyone want an Exec?
I have to agree with everything above. I had an Universal for about 6 weeks and loved it, however, I did find it totally unpractical as an everyday phone and ended up diverting calls to an old Nokia, which sort of defeated the object!! I then saw a K-Jam in PC World and it was love at first sight Got a fantastic deal from T-Mob (Vario) and have never looked back. I think the Universal is a great bit of kit but the Wizard does it for me every time

MDA or WING

HELLO!!! I'm about to buy a new PPC so I need an advice! Which one? Is the winner T-mobile MDA or T-mobile Wing? Some say Wing is too slow? Is that truth because they have almost the same hardware (OMAP850...)? Please HELP!!!
I had an MDA before and I prefer my Herald over it any day. The specifications might be the same but there are many small differences that make the Herald the favourable device.. If the Herald and Wing are the same then things such as the Wing being SDHC compatible, spring keyboard, stylus actually stays in the phone (one thing that pissed me off the most about the MDA, stylus got so loose after a while) are a few reasons why I prefer it. Thats just to name a few, also difference in size, Herald is much slimmer.
As for the speed, in my opinion modifying the page pool takes care of that.
Hope that helps in your decision.
I too had the MDA before the wing. I like the full length styls, spring keyboard, smaller size, and actual windows/ok keys/
get the wing, forget the mda, wing is better in every way, after you apply the 6mb pagepool patch and install battery status the wing will FLY !!!!! i love my wing... now if only they can fix the battery drain when radio off glitch...
Gotta agree with these guys. I went from an MDA, to a Pearl, to a Wing. And with the new RUU floating around for the wing, we're bound to see as much customization as we have with the wizard. I mean, take a look at viet's roms for example. And those are even without the ruu.
I went from an MDA to a Wing. It was an excellent upgrade. I love the MDA but the Wing is better in some aspects. Like Mi|enko said, customizations are bound to make an appearance. The wizard has more hacks and cracks than any other phone I've ever seen. The Wing will get it's time soon.
I just got my Wing from having a MDA. And I am very please with it. Even though the initial internal memory is lower, overall the pro's of the Wing win BIG TIME!!! Plus, native WM6.
I had the mda vario (wizard) and made some benchmark tests - and the XDA terra is even faster without overclocking than the mda.
AND it is much thinner - better for your pocket. and with the change of pagepool it is really a good device.
I love it.
Something else to consider
I got my wing in the U.S.
It has no IR!!!
And I am in serious need of hacks. T-Mobile has customized their version of WM6 so much that memory is at a real premium.
Except for WM6, I prefer my Wizard.

Is the Mogul a good unit?

My ATT Hermes broke and I have a chance to switch to any unit on any carrier in the US. I thought of the Mogul/Sprint because there is good rev A coverage where I live. I ask this because over at the Hermes threads there is allot of different roms and allot of activity going on versus here where it seems like hardly anyone posts here. Should I remain with ATT/Hermes or is the Mogul or possibly Touch a good choice?
I am really liking mine and I came from the hermes. Right now it doesnt have support for rev a evdo, but HTC is supposed to be releasing a new rom to enable it.
The titan doesn't have as much activity because there are only two version of the phone, verizon and sprint. Also, there really isnt a rom kitchen available yet (some are on the works) so thats why there isnt alot of action in that respect.
Over at ppcgeeks.com there is quite a bit more action going on about the mogul.
We are due for a sweet OS upgrade, EVDO update and phone update. This is the most customizable phone out. You can make it into anything. With a little bit of time in you can do alot with a Mogul. I use mine as a wifi hotspot, music center, tv, messenger of all sorts, phone/laptop every day. I dare an IPhone user to try and touch my functions. Almost all online vid is viewable on my Mogul and I have no problem surfing just about any site. As long as you dont anchor it down with an HTC Home mod it runs fast. Its worth every penny. I would stay far far away from any touch phone. At least with the mogul you have the best solid input with the keyboard. Its fast after you figure it out. F__k all other phones. Go Mogul or dont bother.
I've been using DCD 1.69 Kitchen on my Mogul and couldn't be more happy. I have even been working on making my own custom ROM's, so if you are worried about there not being enough ROMs out there, don't. And ture, Sprint and HTC are soon to release a new ROM that enabled GPS and Rev A.
Is the Mogul an upgrade or a downgrade from a Hermes?
My contract is up with ATT/Cingular and I am looking at switching to Alltel because their plans are cheaper (with data/tethering). I currently have a Hermes. However, I do not understand enough about the hardware specs to know if I would be getting a better (faster) processor or slower by switching to the Mogul. Can anyone point me to a side by side comparison between the Hermes and Mogul? Also, I have not yet searched all the posts, but is this "Rev A" referred to here out already? Thanks.
Better than the rest
I have looked into the other phones, and although there are benefits to each the mogul seems to be the best, most well rounded phone out there. Though there may be fewer ROMS available compared to other phones, that may be due to the customizations available through the ROMs that are out there. DCD and some of the others are really stable and have the ability to run almost everything that is out there. Buy an 8 gig card, download the sprint ROM and DCD Rom version based on your cellphone carrier, and have fun.
You may have more RAM on the touch and some others, but functionality due to keyboard and buttons are in the favor of the Tytn/Mogul/xv6800.
I'm on Alltel and I really like my 6800. Pretty much my only gripe about it is constantly checking my available memory, its pretty much always right around 16 megs or available ram.... which gets old sometimes.
but this will probably be my last HTC device I own due to the way they are dealing with all the driver issues ive been reading about. not really much in the way of customer service IMO.
Is there another phone out there with a 2.8 screen (or larger), slide out keyboard, and running Windows Mobile?
my mogul
I love my mogul.. I do..
However, consider a Nokia n800..
It's the best phone i've had, ever. And i've been through 7 or so - maybe more phones in the last 6 months.

Differences

So i have a big question! what is the difference between the htc herald and the wing? is that i had seen in some roms one file for the p3450 and one 4 the wing what is the difference? And another question! What i should upgrade 4 the wing or the cingular 8525 what do you reccomend me? Does the wing feel chunky like the cingular 8525? What do you reccomend for me to buy? I now have a htc s710 but i dnt like it anymore! Thanks and please help me!
Wing and Herald are the same phone, the Wing is just T-mobile branded.
i don't think the Wing is clunky, but then again i didn't think the Treo 700/700w was either and almost everyone complains about those being bulky.
if the cingular phone you mentioned is the Tilt, then get that, because it has more memory and a faster processor. also the screen tilts, which i've found a few occasions where that would be nice.
actually, i've read that the Tilt's processor, while higher in frequency, doesn't vary much from the Wing performance-wise
It's the extra ram in the tilt/kaiser that makes the difference
oh and i should mention that the herald is quite slim for a ppc. It was one of HTC's first "fashion phones", an effort to expand beyond the uber-business clientele
The keyboard arrangements for wing and herald are slightly different. You can use the roms for either device pretty much interchangeably except at the end you need to apply the keyboard fix by Duprade.

Longtime Kaiser user seeking opinions on Nike

I like my Kaiser but its a brick as far as size/weight.
Can someone who has used both tell me how they compare as far as speed, functionality, etc.?
What's the consensus on whether the Nike is a good device.
So you think the Kaiser is a brick! You want to try the Universal, now thats a brick!!!!
I like my Niki. It's small so doesn't trash my trouser or shirt pockets and it's functional (although I do miss not having a keyboard). If you are looking for a compact device this is a good one to go for, having said that, I'd probably wait for the Diamond 2
I have had windows mobiles since they first came out, through the original SPV, XDA, Universal and Vario II and others.
I got my nike as an upgrade from my vario II and I would give my left nut to go back.
It's crap - avoid like the plague.
Cheers,
Smiffy.
