Netfront 3.3 Cingular Video Fix - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

WHOOOHOOOO I got CV back on 2.06.... (after REreading all of the posts)
I did not think of this, I simply read all of the post and got it to work, BUT I thought it would be better if I wrote out how to get it to work clearly.
Connection Settings
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks
1) I selected "My ISP" because my yahoo e-mail account cannot connect through "MEdia Net" proxy.
2) Select "OK" twice
Netfront 3.3 Settings:
Menu > Tools > Browser Setting > NETWORK
This step allows the use of still being able to use "My ISP" connection for e-mailing, while allowing Netfront to use Cingular's "Media Net" proxy for Cingular Video.
Proxy
[ ] Auto-retrieve......[x] Use proxy
Address:.........................Port:
wireless.cingular.com......80
Menu > Tools > Browser Setting > MISC > User-Agent
This step allow Netfront to appear to be a "supported 3G phone"
1) Scroll down and select the first of the blank [----] choices.
2) Select "Edit"
3) Fill the new user agent out as follows
Title:...............................Cingular Video
User Agent:....................LG-CU500
appName:......................ACCESS Netfront
appVersion:...................3.3
appCodeName:..............Mozilla
language/platform:........en / LG-CU500
Menu > Tools > Browser Setting > Helper > External application/Plug-in
This step allows Netfront to automatically offer to start downloaded video file s in RealPlayer.
1) In "Switch to:" select "External application"
2) Select "Add"
3) In "Extension:" select ".ram" : "Application:" should show "realplayer.exe"
4) Select OK
Hope this helps others.
Ron
PS. I will double post this as a new thread and as a reply to the original thread.

Cingular Video Using Pocket Internet Explorer on the 8525
Cingular Video on the Cingular 8525
Cingular Video clips are in the Real Video .ram format (the format of Real Player)
Step 1, Install Real Video
You can download it directly here:
Download: http://www.gadgetech.info/treo/hacks/cingularvideo/realplayer.cab
Step 2, Enable the Media Net proxy
Go to Start > Settings > Connctions > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks
Change the "My ISP" network setting to "MEdia Net"
Now all of your internet traffic will go through the cingular proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Test it by opening http://device.home/ in Pocket Internet Explorer
Step 3, Modify the Pocket Internet Explorer description in the registry:
Chnage the Internet Explorer User Agent description to the Cingular (Samsung) Blackjack. With this change IE will identify your handheld as a Blackjack and allow you access to the Cingular Video site
The registry setting:
Change it to:
(Default) = "SAMSUNG-SGH-I607/I607FG1 Mozilla/4.0"
In order to edit the system registry, you must use a registry editor such as Resco Explorer with Editor or others.
Or the easier way is to install the following .CAB file. The following link (User Agent Blackjack.cab) allows access to the .CAB file which makes the registry change.
Download (to enable access to CingularVideo):
http://www.gadgetech.info/treo/hacks/cingularvideo/UserAgent_BlackJack.cab
Step 4, Change the network setting on RealOne Player
1. Run RealOne Player
2. Select Option
3. Select "Network"
4. Change the setting to the following:
· Network = 802.11b
· Bandwidth = 11Mbps (or 2Mbps)
Step 5, Watch Cingular Video:
1. Run Pocket Internet Explorer
2. Go to http://cingularvideo.cingular.com/
3. Select a video to play
4. Select "YES" to save video.ram and check "Open file after download:
5. RealOne Player will launch and play the video.
Explanation:
1. Step 1: Installs the RealVideo player to play the videos
2. Step 2: Sets up the proxy setting required to access Media Net and Cingular Video WAP sites.
3. Step 3: Changes the reported browser version (to the web site) otherwise it tries to download a wap file instead of the HTML page.
4. Step 4: Changes the network bandwidth setting on Real Video, otherwise Real Video will report that it can't play the video (because you don't have enough bandwidth.)
5. Step 5: Is how you watch Cingular Video.
6. When you select a video to play, it downloads a video.ram file, which contains nothing but a URL. Real Video opens this video.ram file, reads the internet URL, and then plays the video from that URL.
Note: Each time you select a video from the web site, it'll download and overwrite the last video.ram file you downloaded/saved.

Have you tested this out on WM6?

sound like old Wm5 fix only unless the UA Blackjack CaB does something.
Pappl completed the change to the browser.dll and it works now. I am making the CV specific one now.

I figured it was a fix for WM5..
Hey, here's a question that is OT.... Is anyone able to get that version of RealPlayer that was in the 2.06 OS ... it was different than the realplayer that I came with Shogun's Realplayer ... Much nicer (didn't have the 802.11b option but the it ran in fullscreen)

I too, would like to have this version of Realplayer. It was simpler and easier to use.
I am not very good at cooking. I tried extracting the realplayer.exe file from the 2.06 ROM, but I could not figure out the .dll's necessary to get it to work properly.
Anyone else want to give it a crack?
Ron

anyone have any luck installing the new version of Realplayer?...i can not install it thru active sync. A lot of people have the same issue. The new version allows you to go to full screen landscape.

Where is the new version that you are referring to? Can you provide a URL?

Does anyone know where that Realplayer that was in the 2.06 ROM is? Oh, how I would like to watch in fullscreen landscape.

As far as I know youtube works if u have flash player 7 installed on main memory for the roms: Black 2.0 and LSVW 3-26. I have black 2.0 on my machine and youtube works fine, a bit choppy though but good enuf to get the point on 3g.

Just load WM6 black and netfront...with the setting recomend by "lokmeup". I get this error message when accessing cingularvideo.cingular.com...
Cannot load page.
Type: DNS no server is specified.
Anyone has a solution?

Play movies from network

wow.. i just found out that you can connect direct to network shares and play divx movies without having to stream or convert.
Just go into TCPMP and do file open and put in the UNC of a network share such as \\server\video and then browse to the file you want
Now I am sorry if a lot of you are saying... well... duh... but I didnt even think of trying it and maybe there is at least someone else out there in the same boat.
Thanks for that mate. Many know, including myself, that this is possible but it is something which I am glad you made a point of. We were all once new to this type of thing and anything which can be of help to others is not a waste of time.

Plese let me know in more details how to do it.
Thanks.
k..
first thing you need is tcpmp. Current release is 0.71 and you should be able to get it from http://www.tcpmp.com
This is a media player. Its small in size, supports a number of different formats and allows video full screen. So well worth looking at as an alternative to media player
Next you need you device connected to your network wirelessly.
Once you got all that load up tcpmp
then do file....open file from the menu
This will take you to a file open dialogue where you can naviagate around your pda. At the top of the screen is a space that shows you the current directory you are in. If you click on this bar you can overtype what is in there.
This allows you to use a unc style name to connect to a windows machine on your network.
So for example you have a movie you want to watch on a machine called server and you have created a windows file share called movies.
In the bar at the top you would type \\server\movies and hit the GO button
First time you try it will ask you for authentication details username, password and domain.
Enter that information and you will be browsing your file share. You can then select the movie that you want to watch and press OK
Thank for the very detailed instructions!!! I tried it and everything work fine!!!
hey I'm a n00b when it comes to network stuff, I've done it all up to where it ask for username and password and domain. I dont undertsand what u add there any help would b great!
does it mean when i boot into pc username and password? if so how about the domain?
It's ok sorted my self, If anyone else ever wonders the same yes it was the user name and password that you use to boot into xp, I left the domain clear and it worked!
its soo cool only thing bad is every few mins it stops the movie for the buffer to catch up, which I could live with but if there is a setting to down sample the video so less buffering please let me know =)
The other way is to install Resco Explorer and Map PC shared folder, then every time the PDA connects to the LAN the folder will appear like a Storage Card in your File Explorer or any other applications.

Browsing certain website s with Internet Explorer 6.0

So I have the tweaks2k2 and I changed the browser to IE 6.0 so that websites will think I am browsing with IE 6. This has worked great with my banking sites that will not allow PIE.
I have a certain website I need to access and can not. Either with IE 6 glitch or with PIE. Is there anything I can do, or any program that I can use to access the website in question?
The website is www.ringcentral.com which is where I receive my faxes, so it would be great to access my faxes on the go. FISH
Today I have installed the final purchase version of Netfront 3.3 browser. I clicked on the link you mentioned and was able to fully open it. However going further required a log-in. Since I am not a registered user could not move further.
Why don't you give Netfront 3.3 a try. There is a free trial version available.
Hope this helpes
Regards
I tried the site in Opera (set as handheld and set as desktop computer, same as the IE6 trick) and in PIE, all work.
NetFront 3.3 for WM5.0 Viewed as IE 6.0
I have tweaks2tweaks set to make NetFront 3.3 show us as IE 6.0 and it is not working. When I go to Yahoo.com it is asking me to move to a higher browser namely IE6.0.
Can anybody please help with this - it is driving me batty!!!
THANKS...

In order to allow netfront 3.3 to behave as a real IE 6 you can write your own user-agent as follows:
1: Go to menu / tools / browser settings and the misc tab.
2: The user agent drop down list will be showing "Netfront v3.3 Standard"
3: From the drop down list select the --- and press edit
4: Under Title enter any name say Real PC
5: In the user agent field very carefully write the following keeping very special care of spaces and colons:
Mozilla/4.0 (Compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0/5.0) Opera 8.60
6: In appName write Internet Explorer
7: In appVersion write 6.0
8: in appCodeName write Mozilla
9: in Language / platform write en and pc respectively and press the ok soft key
Now make sure by navigating to tools / browser settings / misc tab that the user agent you have just written is selected in the drop down list.
You should now be able to access almost any website that the real IE can do. I have had quite a bit of success with this user agent and hope this helps you as well.
Regards
I have always used MultieIE and Opera Browser,
Multie IE takes over the pointless included PIE browser and adds tabs etc,
Opera a seperate program, although a little Large in Size its fine when installed to mem card.
effectively and this is active for my Nationwide Tinternet Banking, if a site cant be accessed by Multi then Opera will get it,
At work so cant test it on Multi at the moment, but i will update this post when i get chance,
**edit**
OK Using MultiIE I have been able to get to the homepage without problem but also i have no login details so cant really test it fully

Well, it doesn't need to be THAT complicated. Please read the NetFront 3.3 section in my article "TUTORIAL: Change the User Agent your Pocket PC browser uses to make Web servers think you’re a fully-fledged desktop browser!" at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=796&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 . It's full of screenshots.

MultiIE 4.0 is pretty OK, albeit, now, I'd recommend PIEPlus over it.
where can i get Multi IE or PIE plus ?

Cingular Video (CV) on a Wizard.

I did a search on this forum and found some information, but it wasn't enough (mainly I didn't feel like weeding through every thread that had the word "video" in it, just in case)... I did some searching on other sites, and I believe I have finally found a solution everyone can utilize! You don't have to download some fancy app (save for RealPlayer, but I'll get to that in a moment).
Step 1:
Make sure you have your MEdia Net proxy activated, you can only access CV through the proxy. If you need directions, this link should suffice.
Step 2:
CV doesn't work because when you visit http://cingularvideo.cingular.com, your Browser's UserAgent string tells Cingular (AT&T ?) that you are not using one of their 3 or 4 supported phones. Lets fix that...
Open your favorite registry editor (I like using Total Commander's but whatever) and lets navigate. Today you will find out what the UserAgent string of the 8525 (a 3G supported phone) looks like.
For WM5:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent]
(Default)="HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0"
For WM6:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
"CustomBase"="HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0"
When you are done with this, shove your stylus into that hole under the IR port, you know what to do.
Step 3:
CV uses silly .ram files which are hotlinks to RTSP streaming media, and as far as I know only RealOne Player can be used to read these .ram files (I tried looking at the source, copy/pasting the RTSP URL into WM's Streaming Media player, it didn't fly) SO you now need RealOne Player. If you travel to http://www.real.com/player/mobile and go through all the ropes to find the PPC version, you find out the exe they give you doesn't work with the newest version of ActiveSync. So, here's a CAB file for you to enjoy.
Step 4:
After you install that and restart your phone, head to http://cingularvideo.cingular.com and see what happens. This site is pretty much the same layout as http://device.home/ so you might be alright, but it really takes less than 5 mins to figure out how to navigate the thing.
It should be working now...if not, are you SURE you changed the UserAgent strings like mentioned above? WM5 and WM6 use different reg entries, so you should too
Please tell me I wasn't the only one wondering how to do this without installing a cab file that changed these settings for me. You honestly prefer to do that than learn how to do it yourself, in this "knowledge is power" society? Besides, I prefer a bookmark to a cab file!
*gives a big SouthPark Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks!*

As far as I can tell, they don't charge you for the service... but if you don't have an unlimited MEdia Net plan, you're kicking your own ass here. The FAQ suggests access comes with a MEdia Net package, but obviously you can go there without having one, the KBs will sure cost you.
Worked for me after I changed the network type in Real Player. While it was on GPRS, I kept getting an "Incorrect or malformed protocol error"
Launch Real Player and go to options-preferences-network and change type to 802.11b
yeah sorry, I forgot to mention that. You have to change the network preferences to 802.11b. Thanks thedscman
Today I'm trying and everything is giving me a whack "Error Clip Is Not Playable" message. I think ****ing Cingular is on to me, ****.

Vodafone Live! on HTC Touch HD ..

Actual article present on my blog here.
I posted earlier about how to access the Mobile TV on HTC Touch HD on my blog here. But later I found out that method as an inadequate one to continue in normal usage. So I did some more R&D at home around this and found the perfect method of doing so !
So here you go now.
My HTC Touch HD has, L26 v9.0 WWE ROM and you need following software before proceeding further.
* AdvancedConfig – for doing the configuration changes on Internet Explorer User agent
* PHM registry editor – for making the changes to rtsp default player
Vodafone Live! runs primarily on S60 based devices and I had an excellent experience of it running on my earlier Nokia N95. So you need to try and ‘fool’ the system at Vodafone to assume your phone as a N95 instead of Internet Explorer running on a Windows Mobile phone. To do so, you need to change the ‘mobile’ user agent string of your Internet Explore browser to the one used for N95. Use the following steps to change the user agent string.
1. Run AdvancedConfig
2. Expand Internet Explorer option
3. Click on User Agent custom base
4. Change the value as follows
Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95/11.0.026; Profile MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413
Once you are done with this, to ensure that the change has worked, Open the internet explorer browser and go to the website http://www.useragentstring.com. Your browser should recognize your device as N95 using Mozilla Safari browser.
If this happens, then you have passed the first step!
Now go to Start –> Settings –> Connections –> Connections –> Advanced –> Select networks
Select “Contract WAP” as the default network and you are good to go.
Just to test if this works.. try accessing http://live.vodafone.co.uk via your Internet Explorer browser (in a Mobile mode, not Desktop mode) and see if it works for you.
It worked for me and I hope it would work for you.
However, I had one issue with HTC Streaming Media that the rtsp link would not play. Hence I had to go and change the default RTSP player to WMPlayer.exe by modifying the registry.
If you too are having similar issue, then open PHM registry editor and access the key \HKCR\rtsp\Shell\Open\Command. Change the default value from StreamingPlayer.exe to WMPlayer.exe “%1” and you should be able to view the streaming from your Windows Media player.
Try the above steps and let me know how it goes…
What .. no reply? :-(
Hey!
So, I have done exactly as you said, but no luck... the User Agent does not change. To be mentioned: I am using Dutty's XTREME v2.1. Perhaps the User Agent Code is stored in another place, not where AdvancedConfig expects to find it...

Dunno much about Dutty's ROM. I had it earlier and the above process did not work for me there .. probably because the Internet Explorer browser in there has a hard coded useragentstring in browser.dll
I tried the above on L26 ROM and it worked .. in fact to my surprise ... !
Hello!
Just an update. Everything works fine with Opera Mobile 6.5; there it is easyer to change the User Agent String. I replaced it with the string you gave and ... everything is working fine. Couldn't convince IEM6 to work, though! Ah, well... the procedure how to change to a Custom Agent String in Opera is described here: "In opera:config, User Perfs there is a setting called “Custom User-Agent”.". Good luck!
One question: where can I find this browser.dll in my device? Oh, and the quality of the live stream from VodafoneLive is lousy!
Thanks ...
I dunno about the browser.dll, supposedly in the Windows folder somewhere. I suggest you not to try and play with that, otherwise you will corrupt your IE forever.
I tried on IE first and it worked, so never bothered to try on Opera. Kept opera separately and in tact for web browsing ..
