Hi,
Running messenger live on wm5 as other people have mentioned it add all your contacts on msn to your contacts address book.
I went through and deleted all of these and now it has just deleted all my contacts from MSN.
Just logged in on my home computer and watched MSN horrified as it slowly removed them one by one.
Is there any way of retrieiving them?
Thanks,
Dave.

I hope someone can help me out. I've been using live messenger on my trinity for a while, merged all my outlook contacts and everything.. Today, i got online with my trinity, and live messenger only showed a handful of contacts (maybe 10?). Lo and behold, it's synchronized and now live messenger on my pc only has 10 contacts instead of over a hundred.
The contacts still exist in outlook and on my trinity with the "IM" field filled in. Has this happened to anyone else? Any way to get them back, or i have to manually add everyone in messenger again?
Hi,same thing for me,you can find your contacts in wlm on your computeur : tools/options/Confidentiality.Make a backup after to save all the contacts on your pc.
you are a GENIUS!!!
thank you... you saved the day. I still don't understand why it happened though..
Same happened to me today, but with my touch hd. I signed in and changed the settings of showing the contacts to grouped and then i noticed thay there are onli9 contacts overall. I hope i can fix it on my computer
just wondering if anybody could shed any light on why when after a rom change i connect to msn messenger and it puts all my msn contacts in my phone contacts list?
presumably this is wasteing space on my phone?
thanks
Only Windows Live Messenger syncs your MSN contact list with your phones contact list, MSN messenger does not. Currently there is not way to stop it from doing this.
The first time I used live messenger (as an experiment by the way), it synchronized all my messenger contacts to my jade's contact list. So now, i have about 250 contacts, 90% without telephone numbers, which kinda... sucks .
Is there a way to delete these contacts with one handling, so i don't have do delete all of them one by one, also without deleting my outlook contacts?
Hi Rubain,
I got the same disappointment. I once logged into messenger and the whole list popped up in my contacts list. I discovered the reason. If you login to messenger before setting up the synch options by Windows Live, this happens. Just go to START-PROGRAMS-WINDOWS LIVE and choose the option to sig in with a different acct. Once you make it the you lose the automatic set up WINDOWS LIVE made. Now sign in to WINDOWS LIVE first, before signing into messenger. Follow the steps described in the User Manual under the capitel WINDOWS LIVE and uncheck the box "SYNCH MY LIVE CONTACT WITH MY ADDRESS BOOK".There you go. You once again have your live messenger and hotmail account on your device but this time without the contacts in your address book. Hope it helps.
If i login on msn messenger on my phone it is deciding to delete some of my contacts... (so they come off my msn on the pc too)
I have no idea why it is doing this as i copied my msn contacts to the relevant contacts in my phone book and selected the option in messenger to combine contacts with messenger...
Its really starting to hack me off as I'm having to re-add contacts all the time
Nice to hear
Actually... same here... wtf

its really weird that its deciding to do it though, i can't understand why it does it
Title pretty much explains!
With facebook and secondary email accounts, under settings you can disable them from importing contacts into WP7's contact area... but with the main Windows Live ID you use to activate the phone, there's no tick box to disable the importing of messenger contacts.
Now my phonebook has like 300 entries of people who don't even have phone numbers... help?! Please!
Yeah! I've got the solution for you, i run into this problem as soon as i got my activation code and got my hotmail account up and running, all you got to do is go to your mail account and delete all the contacts in the contacts page then re-sync your live account from your phone and *bam* unwanted contacts are gone!

Then all your contacts store in Hotmail are gone?
I have just posted this against another similar post, would it work?
I posted this elsewhere and didnt get any real work arounds.....
(I returned my OE WP7 and returned to HD2 on WM6.5).
However, just a thought.....
MyPhone is only for WM6.5 but using ActiveSync you can sync mail, contacts, calendar & tasks with Outlook. I read on the Microsoft forum that you can download Hotmail Contacts to Outlook, and export from Outlook to Hotmail.
If I were to return to WP7, which no doubt I will do:
Contacts:
I would Sync WM6.5 with Outlook, then upload them to the Hotmail account I would be using on WP7. I remember (and may stand corrected) that when you register the Hotmail account on the device, the Contacts are automatically downloaded.
WM6.5 using Windows Live allows you to download Hotmail contacts to my phone, so I guess they would also sync.
Doesnt cure my original issue that I wanted my Phone and Hotmail contacts seperate. I may have to create an additional Hotmail account for that?
Calendar:
On my version of Outlook, I can have two calendars showing - one for the PC which is synced to my phone and one which is my Hotmail. I havent found a way to automatically sync them, but its easy tp drag an appointment from say my PC calendar to Hotmail and therefor on to WP7.
Regarding texts, theres no way like MyPhopne, just copy what you can to your sim card I am afraid.
Does that sound like it might work?
