Hello all.
I just got my 8525 from Cingular yesterday. I love it. installed a bunch of programs already.

Try these keywords in google:
THREADED, SMS
It's hard but it should do the trick

Threaded SMS
This is a common complaint for 8525 users.
You have three choices: 2 legal and one not.
1 and 2: apps called TXTMan and "SMS Threader". Neither integrate well with the phone, most people remove soon after installing.
Option 3: install the app which Palm wrote for the Treo 700W, which has been hacked for use on any WM5 phone. Requires some tweaking, and you're on your own in terms of FINDING the app (Palm is apparently pretty aggressive about getting it taken down from most forums).
Here's how I got mine working on my 8525, here in Austin TX:
1) run the .cab, Soft Reset.
2) edit the registry to rename HKLM/Software/MS/Inbox/SVC/MMS1 to MMS1OLD, Soft Reset. Otherwise you still see MMS if you click your email hard button a second time.
3) Go into new SMS app, Menu, Options, Advanced:
Msg Center#: +12099042020
Email Center#: 121 <--this lets you send sms's to email addresses
MMS gateway address: 66.209.11.32
MMS URL: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Network Profile: MEdia Net
4. Delete Start Menu/Programs/Inbox(1) folder.
That's it - works GREAT. Hope this helps!

Palm Messaging app

The Palm Messaging app from the Treo 750v is cool.
It's even cooler on the TyTN.
EDIT: This file has been removed from the FTP site, Please do not upload it again.
Palm claims this is in conflict with their Intellectual Property rights.
Thanks,
Flar (the admin)
Is this the threaded SMS app? That'll be cool if it is. Any screenshots yet? Thanks again
*edit*
HAHAHA it is the threaded sms app!!! Awesome find
very nice... it would be even better if we could maintain the messaging app's hard button functionality (i.e. be able to push it repeatably to toggle between this app and the standard inbox app).
thanks for sharing!!
Does this play well with Push Email feature? Second the motion for PICS
Thanks!
Thanks for the APP..
Ok...yes I am a loser....!
Any chance the cab can incorporate the registry changes, (MMS1 to MMS1old)...or was it left out b/c people may wish to leave the message there as well?
I get nervous on the regedit side...
Thanks, and if not...no problem.
All the changes are already in the cab as far as I can tell. I'm not in front of a PDA...

Wow! Is this done independently of hannip's ROM dump? Cool! Thanx theloanranger!
I'm looking forward to use this on my Pocket Loox T830 (when I get it).
Screenshots from those who already installed it please?
Wow, I look away for 2 seconds and someone already did it!
Awesome!
ahhhh! thank you! I knew it would only be a matter of time til someone got this...I'm using it on my 700wx and it is the shiz-nit!
pretty friggin' awesome! Works great!
i tried it on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone, and not surprisingly, it doesn't work too well. it installs fine, but when running keeps generating exceptions in device.exe and gwes.exe. also, the UI does not work well because it's designed for Pocket PC. again, no surprise, but in case any smartphone users are tempted to try it, consider yourself warned.
kudos to whoever got it to work on a Pocket PC though!
MMS gateway and such for verizon
Any one have the settings to get mms working for verizon on this? Thanks in advance
Mmmmm, the lovely Treo 650 messaging is back.
Everything works fine on my TyTN. There is only two minor issues. First one is about desconnecting after sending a MMS. I have to do it manually. Any idea?
The other one has been posted before: I cannot set the Palm messaging to the hard button... although I've sourrounded this using SBSH iLauncher. I've assigned PalmMSG to one of the iLauncher's QuickLaunch icons and this one to the hard button.
Sprint PCS MMS settings also..
I tried putting in the settings I did to originally get the MMS working on my sprint ppc6700, but the settings are not working here. Any ideas?
Some help please..
I tried to look for the following using resco and phm and i can't seem to find the following that was included with the instructions
- Now you've done that, navigate using the registry editor to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc and rename the MMS1 key to MMS1.old, and the SMS key to SMS.old. This will prevent the standard app displaying SMS and MMS.
Any help is appreciated! and btw this on a treo 700wx
lol I don't have anyone who can send me a MMS So I don't know if it works or not, lol. But I love this app
this app works beautifully on my MDA! I love it! I have been waiting for this app. I used a program similar to this on the RAZR. I loved it.

NOTE: Some of us are having issues. We CANNOT send an SMS to an email address. We get an error message:
"Could not send message. The message center number or the email center number is invalid. Please contact the wireless operator."
Now, in the SMS app, if you go to Menu --> Options --> Advanced tab
Network Configuration/Manual/Edit...
You'll see spots for "message center number" and "email center number" and both are blank. When you put in a number (such as found here: http://www.smsfre.com/SMS-Mesaging-Centers.htm ) they do not stick after hitting "OK".
Any help/ideas?
Guys, I've written a new app, VJSlippyPalm, to toggle between the Palm Messaging App and the normal Inbox.

Have you tried entering this mcn / ecn at the registry?

HTC Home plugin + MMS

I wasn't sure if there was something covering a fix for this issue...
If you install the 5 tab HTC Home and you have the MMS app installed, the email button on the Home sends you the MMS regardless of what you do.
If you have the 3 tab version however, it will bring you to the selection screen of messaging (if you have it set to Display account picker).
If anyone knows of a fix or has a fix for this issue, I would love to find out I would like to use the 5 tab version, but this annoys me too much to keep it. I have looked around in the HTC Home section of the registry and didn't see anything that stood out for that option.
Does anyone know where I can get ArcSoft's MMS Composer v. 4.0 cab file? It is really much improved. I've tried it on my TyTN. It combines SMS and MMS in one and checks one's address book for the appropriate phone numbers when MMSing.
I check ArcSoft's site and could not find it.
At one point it was floating around at ppcgeeks, but it would not work. It was sending additional information when trying to send a message. The Sprint server was rejecting everything that was coming from the v.4 app. None of the registry settings that were modified seemed to of fixed it.
I've just seen that the 6 tab is finally out, so we'll have to throw that one in as well.
I haven't tried the 6-tab version... does it have the same results as the 5-tab?

I'd sure like to try it anyway. I have tried a v 3.0+ which was made for the Apache. It worked well but it wasn't perfect. It would give you the option of sending some kind of pic message that Verizon uses but Sprint doesn't. When the MMS option was chosen, it worked great. I tried to post this .cab file, but this site wouldn't let me.
Adding another email account worked for me
I just added my yahoo email account, and when I tap on the mail icon, it now brings me to the screen giving me the choice to choose Text Message, MMS, Outlook Email, & now my Yahoo email (not exactly in that order).
Thanks for the fix as this was killing me.
Still a problem?
I have the 6-tab version and have this same issue. One icon opens text messages and the other MMS messages. Is there any way to change these to open the email? MMS is useless to me.

MMS menu missing

Hi
I'm new to this forum and not that technically savvy so apologies if this is a daft post.
I have a problem with my (UK) T-Mobile MDA Vario in that the MMS menu item is missing from the Start -> Messaging -> Menu -> Switch Accounts menu (I'm told it should be there).
I've followed the T-Mobile instructions for setting up the MMS server configuration and that all looks fine but I just don't see the MMS menu item to enable me to send a picture message.
Details when I start up the phone are as follows:
IPL 2.21
SPL 2.21
GSM 02.19.11
OS 2.21.2.6
Can anyone tell me how I can get the menu item onto my phone?
Many thanks
mms
why did you not look into the message folder?
it should be there
Thanks for the reply.
The only folders I see under the Start -> Messaging -> Inbox dropdown are:
Outlook E-mail
Text Messages
Is that the Message folder you mean?
Thanks
Claire

Some official T-Mo roms disable MMS settings editing. I believe T-Mo 2.26 rom does this.
Missing MMS folder
Hi
I had the same problem with my Cingular 8125. After many discussions with Cingular support and no success, I stumbled upon this cab. file, copied and opened the file to my device. I now have the MMS folders.
Have attached the ZIP file for Extended_ROM2.
Below is the cab file that worked for me.
MP-Shorcut-MMS1-Java5xx-CyberonVoice-CV-051220.CAB
I know how U feel. I am also new to these smart phones and only yesterday have I been able to configure MMS, Email and Internet.

Yes this is the folder where MMS would be along with Text and Outlook. Sounds like MMS was accidentally deleted as a new email account was being entered. You may have to hard re-set your device to get it back' or hit NEW at the bottom left, and enter MMS as the new account.

Does your camera have MMS option?
fixed! (well pretty much)
Hi All
Many thanks for your responses!
I tried installing your CAB file Rod and it seems to work a treat - the MMS menus and folder are there now and I can send and receive picture messages - result! When I restarted I lost them again though but I can live with that, I'll just install the CAB after each restart.
hotdog53, yes the camera had the option of sending via MMS but when I chose that absolutely nothing happened. Seems to be alright after the CAB install though.
Thanks again for your help!!

Hi Claire
Great to hear U has some measure of success. I can't remember offhand exactly which folder I installed the cab in, not sure if that would make a difference. Maybe U could try it in different folders. I have restarted my phone numerous times since and have had no problem. Maybe someone else could help out.I am now offshore India and had to leave my phone onshore, so no access to it for a few days.
Good luck

Are there any other mms hacks than the one over at ppcgeeks?

I was wondering if there were any other mms hacks that work on the mogul other than the widely known one at ppcgeeks, cause it only works when it wants to and I would like to try a different one.
Lately there have been server issues where it just doesn't want to send any picturemails... heh, seems like Sprint is try to crack down on it
yea, and that sucks cause I tend to send alot of pics to other peoples cell phones that dont have email on their phones, or dont know how to use it.
well I figured something out!, I turned off my data conection and turned on my wifi(thanks to my wireless antenna) and triend sending again and it went off without a hitch! Damn Sprint!
Hmm, I don't even have MMS in my Mogul Inbox apps, only Text Message, Outlook, and my email account. How do you guys send MMS then?
IN my Cingular 8525, I have MMS in the Inbox apps.

I found a workaround/fix that has it working.
Change you DNS from Sprint's to Open DNS.
see : http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...et-access.html
Then it should work every time.
here use this thread, it works.

mms works fine for me, had to softboot twice but always had to softboot twice with wisebar on my 6700, out of curiosity why would sprint want to prevent you from sending picmail when you are paying for power vision? "seems like Sprint is try to crack down on it"

What about Alltel's ROM... they offer picture/video mail on their 6800s... can anyone extract the cabs out of it??
I don't know about anyone else, but the MMS app seemed to really slow down my phone... sometimes the messaging application would freeze up entirely when it was installed!
So, I found that at least for Sprint users, you can send an email to <phone number>@pm.sprint.com, and it will show up as an MMS message on that user's phone!
This is a much more robust way to send pic mms, and my phone is much happier now without the MMS app.

they are not cabs to extract, it is not installed from the extended_rom but instead part of the ROM.
if someone else knows what files and regs are needed i could extract them and build a cab. i had considered trying to track them down and/or pulling out files/regs used in the mms cab from ppcgeeks. i could try this but i have a feeling the mms builtin to alltels has stuff all over that would be hard to track down.
it is arcsoft mms though just looks like a diff version. installing the ppcgeeks arcsoft mms cab on alltel does not produce working mms and this is part of my feeling that this version is layed out quite differently.

This is the exact same thing I experienced with the mms cab from arcsoft. My phone was sluggish and whenever I tried to go into my text message shortcut it would take up to a minute to load up.
I'll go without for now too, until we can find a way around this.
This is the OLD WAY
I use the old MMS Cab file from Verizon 6700. It's very simple to make it work. First install the Cab , then the cab text menu. after the soft reset, just go into the Arcsoft files registry and change the Enableserveredit ot 1 , default is 0. Once that is done, go to the MMS config and change to sprintpcs and the address also to sprintpcs. then thats it. This is just a brieft description if anyone wants to try it.
If anyone want me to attached the file and go step by step, just post the reply here and i'll get to it. Reason is because i don't know if everyone knows about it or not, so i won't waste time posting the files.
You will have an MMS in Messaging, YOU can send it from there, but when you received MMS pix/video it is received in the Text Message account. Basically this MMS account enable you to send MMS pix/video and receiveds then in your Text Messaging account. When receiving MMS, it will send you a link to the pix/video directly. I know on the Alltel, it takes you to the sprint messaging website and you have to log in to see pix/video. The setup above as i described, takes you directly to the pix/video and do not need to log in.
FYI:....send MMS using phone numbers not e-mail addy
Right now after doing the resolution hack, my MMS won't send out, giving me an error that says my image size of 16k or whatever is over the 0k limit? I can change my resolution to the lowest setting and it's still giving me the same error.

Text Messaging / MMS Wipe OUT?

Hey yall,
I'm trying to figure out what happen here. I believe on most pocket pc phones - when you press messaging you are brought to a screen that shows the options
----------------
TEXT MESSAGES
----------------
MMS
----------------
SET UP EMAIL
----------------
What I would like to know is on my phone I had all those things however just recently all I would see after pressing the messaging shortcut is
--------------
SET UP EMAIL
--------------
Where did the text messaging and mms option go? Are there ways to fix this without hard resetting? I sure hope so - it'll save me a lot of time. Thanks a bunch guys.

SMS and MMS are not there to choose from. Originally when I click on messaging I would get 3 options to choose from. Now I would only get 1. Does that make any sense?
