After a short search, I found enough info to allow me to edit the registry to get my trin to show the US date format (MM/dd/yy) instead of the Asian format (dd/MM/yy).
I'm sure this is old hat to many of you out there, but for those of you who would like this "fix", here it is (credit to mikechannon for the pieces of the puzzle):
Go to HKLM\nls\overrides
create a string called SSDte
give that string the value MM/dd/yy (or anything else you want from the legend provided here )
Then hold the power button down until you get the message that data may be lost. Tap yes and then long press the power button to restart.
If you don't do it this way, your changes may be lost and you will have to repeat the process.
I hope this helps someone who, like me (a silly American), may have been getting continually confused by things like how I got to the 28th month on 28/2/07!!!

WOW. I even saw that when I was looking for the answer - I just must have looked right over it! <Red face of embarrasment> Well at least it got me some more reg editing experience!
I'll see you all later when I post some more pointless info.
There is one thing I'd like a reg hack for... and that's to change the word 'mobile' in contacts to 'cell'.
Actually, make that two things, the keyboard is the wrong format or something, the enter key and backslash keys need fixin' -- but I guess it won't be a quick reg hack either.

Is there any way to set the default method for entering text? I want to set my Jam up so that whenever I open the messaging program it goes straight to the T9 input method, regardless of what has been used for entering text in the past
Ta!
I think tweaks2k and possibly cetuner allow you to change the default SIP.
You can also try my program SipSwitch.

Wow! Quick reply!
Thanks for that. I'm interested in your idea on one of your numerous other threads regarding mapping a hardware button that will cycle between the various methods. Thats exactly what I'm after so I'll wait and see how that pans out.
Keep up the good work buddy, more and more of your software appears on my Jam by the day!

Thanks burnso
I've got an idea for a major PPC mod, but that's going to take some hacking. But I quite like the idea of the rolling sip menu, so I'll try to get it out first.

I'm intrigued! I'll watch with interest
So glad I found this site!!!
In the mean time, congrats on the aforementioned jail sentence *ahem* I mean nuptials ;-)
Hello all,
I would like to introduce a software which using CTRL/ALT key on your Universal.
Here is a link to download.
http://1942.rocketspace.net/PQz/PQz20051119_0015.zip
Espcially, It has been designed for Japanese.(IME Atok)
(I'm not sure it works or not in other languages.)
Thanks.
OK, I'm not brave enough...

Tom's other 2 posts are innocuous enough, and started over a month ago, so it doesn't look like someone who registered just to post a trojan.
Tom, can you tell us if you've tried this, how it works, and where we can find a URL that lends it some cred?
Here's what I could find that might help (Jap translated page). Looks like a competition to write such a proggie:
http://216.239.39.104/translate_c?h...=50&hl=en&hs=vfu&lr=&client=opera&rls=en&sa=G
Woohoo! I found a few more Jap/Chinese pages, and developed a level of comfort that this was a competition, and that the app exists and does what Tom suggests. It's AWESOME! U get a little icon on the title bar (would like to get rid of this some time), and it changes to show ctrl and alt mode. You can set different keyboard keys to be ctrl and alt, and when u press them u can now move backwards and forwards 1-word at a time and all the other things u would expect.
Nice going Tom - sorry to have been so circumspect. We would love for you to tell us more about what those darned clever Japanese dudes are doing for the Universal.
PS: For n00bies, put this exe file in your \windows\startup folder. Right-click icon for settings. Set ctrl to be your WIN key, and Alt to be your SYM key and you're a-for-away! Uuh, on second thoughts, I've no idea what the alt key does for me, so until I figure that out I'll keep my sym key as is
PPS: Sorry VJ - you were beaten to it! No worries tho, you can focus on some of the other stuff we're all dying to see...
Woohoo! Ctrl-Q,Del,A,C,X,V I expected - but Ctrl-Z is just a big fat bonus!
Most excellent! Any chance for an "ESC" key?
Wow, that's nice!
V
Hi all,
and thank you for your interest.
Last few weeks, I've been developing this app and not finished yet.
I will write a user's guide as soon as possible.
PS.heidy
I think it not hard to implement 'ESC'.
cheers

what do the 2 IME list do?
thank you
Hi francorg,
>In the setup page:
>what do the 2 IME list do?
You might be using single byte charactor like English if you don't use IME.
We japanese have to convert from single byte charactor(alphabet) to Japanese. (Chinese/Koria are same)
Alphabet <----(IME OFF/ON)---->Japanese
The settings are used for Japanese Input.
If you don't use IME. You can choose IME [none][N O].
that the best way to you.
thank you.
brilliant - thanks!
is tough choosing which key to lose though for Ctrl.... think i'll start with CAP LOCK - i've kinda got used to using Fn, Windows, Sym etc.
but finally - i can use command-line stuff like putty properly!

Great software, great guide. Thanks!
Working while keeping the ctrl-key pressed?
Great software! Thank you for that.
To make it perfect in my eyes, it would be great, if it would work as well, as long as you keep the key pressed. I would need it to jump word by word keeping the ctrl-key pressed and moving by hitting the arrow-keys. Would that be possible?
Regards,
Jogi

I agree - this is how I would want it to work.
I haven't tried this software yet but I want to. Can anybody answer this question please? The user guide didn't seem to give me the answer:
Can I program the software to give me <FN> + <SHIFT> = <CTRL> ?
I.e. can I hold down FN and SHIFT to get the Ctrl function? Is that a combination of keys that's supported in the dropdown selectors? I don't want to lose an existing key to get the Ctrl function if I can avoid it.
And yes, I want everything!
Superb. Makes my Exec a whole lot more useful.
Has anyone figured out how to copy some text as any highlighted text gets wiped out when you enter 'C'
Mike
ctrl+c it just works. Doesn't clear the text at all.
is there a way to use the button mapped to Ctrl solely for Ctrl?
I use "CAP LOCK" as Ctrl, and although it works fine as Ctrl, when I start typing again, my writing is all in caps :-(
Hi,
I am interested to know if anyone is aware of the right Reg key on a PocketPC and Smartphone device (5.0 and 6.0) that is used to store the email signature of a user?
Many thanks,

1. I just asked this very same Q in Hermes upgrading forum about 2 days ago.
2. No one answered, so I guess no one knows.
Signature
I know this sounds like the lazy way to do things, but if you make a signature and then go through each reg key, you may find it. I just did that the other day and found all the call forwarding numbers.

I did and used a reg editor search function and nothing. It is probably not plain text as some of the owner info is not plain text either, but some was so that is how I found that one.
Nope
I've tried exactly that - in fact that was my first thought - but didn't find as much as a dead fly. So I was hoping the gurus on this site might be able to point me in the right direction.
If I press wlan button in Comm Manager than WiFi should be ON but it is not. I did use some different roms but still nothing. Somebody know what to do ?
settings-connections-wireless lan - there is only message:
Wireless LAN is OFF.Turn on Wireless LAN.
It does not work. Please help me.
Go back to wm5. If your lucky it might come back. The more I dig through here the more I see people with wifi problems after flashing. You might be out of luck
HOWEVER
I noticed under WM6 the bubble that pops up when you click on the wifi tower ALWAYS says 'turn on wifi'
Good luck!
Same problem with my WI-FI, Not working please help!!!!
Hi All. I am facing the same problem with my WI-FI as Vomithaus is having. Whenever I try to to connect to WIFI from Commmanager, it tries to and then to show disconnected. When i go to settings> Wireless LAN, it asks me to "Configure Network Adaptors", and lists all the adaptors and going into them asks about the ip settings and stuff like that. By the Way I Bricked my phone once and then i flashed with T-Mobile Ship WM6.0 RUU for the WING. And I strongly suspect that the registry setting are not right or the Radio ROM is F***ed up. Can any knowledgeable person help me please? I would greatly appreciated any help.
Same problem with my WI-FI, Not working please help!!!!
This is the addeneum to the last post. The last remaining screenshot for the above post. The last screen shot of the "Wi-Fi Status" in the "Settings > Connection", gives me an option to "Turn on Wi-Fi" but toggeling it results in nothing. Thank You everybody for your time and consideration.
It might help us to figure out how this happened too. I bought the EXEC off of ebay and it was like this from the get go. The previous owner flashed it to wm6 about 1 month ago, but said it was working fine... all he did was hard reset to get rid of the personal information. I want to believe him, but there are a few people on here complaining of flashing the exec and losing wifi. (even the official rom from O2).
Flashing COULD have damaged the transmitter, but it seems more likely that a setting is wrong somewhere (especially since there is a slider bar for WIFI battery vs performance).
This is good news (somewhat), but the bad news is that if there is one, no one knows about it. I have messed around in the registry (there were some promising entries related to POWER), but nothing that even showed a response. I found the entry that connects to the slider bar, but PERFORMANCE = zero, so there is nowhere to go there but WORSE.
This really sucks, is all I can say. I blew $500 on something that is useless (well... not useless, but no WIFI? WHY COULD IT HAVE NOT BEEN BLUETOOTH!)
Another step I have taken is contacting PPC Tech's via email and asking them if they have any idea how to repair it, and how much $$$
I'll keep you informed.
Can you tell me if yours EVER worked, and if so, when it stopped?
I just looked closer at your screenshots.... Do you have a WIFI card? (it say's 'adapter').
No, I dont have a WIFI card but this is way how windows handles all is peripherals (services), as an add-on card. just like you laptop.
Guys, There is a registry fix for this problem.
Please take look here :

Ron
I am afraid Ron that this is not a case as suggested in Beowulf6's solution. If it is the solution I dont know how to exactly implement it. But I am posting here the exact registry key screenshot for you guys to take a look also. I can't see and TNETWLN1 or TNET12345 key here in my device. I still think it has to something with the registry. Can any one here with a T-Mobile WING verify and post their screen shot? or maybe send me a registry backup to compare with? It would be really grateful it some does that. Thanks everybody for a few seconds to read this.
In my herald i can't see TNETWLN1 or TNETWLN12345 too.
I did use Mobile Registry Editor for that , what you guys are useing?
(sorry for my English, if you dont understand me just tell me please)
Look at the screenshots, there a Reg Folder with the name WLAN, open it, and then open the key with all the numbers and letters. At the end of that line is a code. TNETWLAN1 is what it should be for the Herald.

It is like Bio88 says.
You are already on the right track... click on WLAN and you will find the key.
Change the value of the key into TNETWLAN1
Done

Hi Please look at my screen shot again clearly. I did post what is inside the WLAN folder. There are only two keys :
1) (Default) \Windows\ctlpnl.exe
2) CmdLine cplmain17
I still can't figure where is the key with numbers and letters. Sorry If I am a bit dumb or wrong. Thanks.
it is possible if you use the default Commanager that you dont have this registry key.
I dont know if it helps if you create it on your own.
but for me where i installed a different commanager, the Key was there and i edited it for the wlan button.
My Tmo Wing has "TIACXWLN1" in that registry key.
Do those changes apply to the herald and the Wing interchangeably?
I use to know where the config file that held all the auto corrections for the keyboard, but now I can't find it. I mistakenly typed in "thatd" so now every time I want to say "that's", I get the wrong word by default.
Does anyone know where the config file is so that I can delete the "thatd" entry?
Thanks
Joe, the file is named eT9MyWords, and it's in the Windows folder. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Hmmm, I ran the program and there was no thatd... This happens mainly in the HTC Messaging if that makes a difference
try soft reset. I've often found that some words that come up as options when typing are lost when soft reset.

I just Task29 and flashed a new ROM and the mistake persisted
hehe, handy.
The next thing then is that the word generator throws up words based on your useage, , so type 'thats' again, but press the small symbol to the right of the words when they come up, and you should see 'that's' as one of the options. Choose it, and then type it again, and you should see it now comes up as the first option.
(Also, its worth making sure you are being very very accurate with the S and D keys, maybe your touch alignment is off a few milimeters, in which case it WILL offer you thatd, because thats what you typed, , , i do that myself practically daily with some words.)
edit - just double checked, and when i type thatd it doesnt offer me that's, and when i type thats it doesnt offer me thatd.
boo... That's so lame! I just typed 400+ chars worth of "thats" which I pressed the "that's" suggestion that came up every time, and i still get thatd... I even get thatd as the default suggestion for tjats, yhats and thatd... I did a search on my phone for thatd, and I got nothing (wasn't expecting to either)
I've Task29'd and flashed a new ROM and I still get THATD!!!! Really, I think I'm going to have to move away from the HTC Messaging....
So funny update. I typed "thatd" and thats was the first option to come up and I thought Yay! it's fixed! Then I tried typing thats and thatd came up
Does anyone know of a registry or config file somewhere that I need to edit to get rid of thatd?!
Thanks for any help!
