Carcomm cradle and GPS - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi All, just got the carcom cradle for my tytn, its the one thats just a charger rather than full hands free. I also got the carcomm ENAV-400 gps reciever thats plugs into the cradle. So far i cant get tomtom 6 to talk to the gps on any of the com ports! Anyone shed any lights on this? No Idea what port its meant to be on, am i missing something?
Cheers!

Well, for anyone having this problem in the future, here is the reply i got from Carcomm about this.
Dear James,
Thank you for your interest in our products.
The TyTN and a lot of new phone models unfortunately do not work with a wired GPS receiver,
they can only work with a Bluetooth GPS receiver.
I hope this answered your questions.
Best regards,

So, dont buy a carcomm wired GPS, even though you can plug it into a carcomm cradle coz it wont work. Ive now got to return mine and get a bluetooth one :/

Mine works fine.
Only over Bluetooth though,
AFAIK it definitely wont work as a wired device using the Carcomm kit
We support these at work and have installed 10-20 devices installed and all work fine.

o2 XDA EXEC - Anyone set up with Tomtom 5 and wired GPS yet?

Yo,
Anyone got a new exec yet, and got tomtom 5 with a tomtom wired GPS receiver plugged into it? If so can you describe what you did, so i can prepare my gear for when it lands! Looks like I might need a USB to MINI USB lead to be compatable with my Arkon car cradle...............
Cheers all,
Bryson
Search the forum, loads of posts on this.
I haven't seen any posts on this. Plenty on BLUETOOTH tomtom but not WIRED.
As far as I know there isn't any type of adaptor like that on the market - unless anyone knows different? So its Bluetooth only.
Sorry, my bad, I miss-read the post. Thought it was BT.
Yeah, I trawled the forums, didnt see anything re a wired GPS receiver, so hoping someone can advise how i can connect my tomtom wired GPS into the exec.............dont want to have to buy a new BT receiver as well!
just got my exec today ,which I must admit was quick comming only ordered it yesterday ive got gps for my xda 2 but wont fit my exec
It wouldn't be as simple as a Serial to Mini USB adaptor because the serial bit would need to be a specific Xda serial fitting. I can't see the economical sense in them being developed.
Best bet is to flog your wired receiver on ebay and buy a b/t receiver. I'm using a co-pilot b/t receiver and the phone connecter that comes with it is mini usb. Charges the Exec and b/t receiver at the same time.
I Don't work
doesn't look good ....................
sh1t, really! why? let me guess, after 3 succesful incarnations of the xda..........HTC decided that it would be to easy co let the comm port style continue, and usb land awaits........

Am I being dim or wouldn't this sit at the bottom of the device when using the exec in portrait mode? I'm assuming that the Brodit holder can cater for this?
Yes it would sit at the bottom. The Brodit has no problem with this.
Can anyone confirm that this works on the exec and wm5 as neither are listed as supported/compatable.
If you look here: http://www.usglobalsat.com/item.asp?itemid=17&catid you will find you can download the NEW driver with WM5 support.
Take a look at the picture. Sweet! I know the GPS isn't plugged in, but it soon will be.
Looks good..
They were quick with the new driver!!
Let us know how it works with the Exec as my money is burning a hole in my pocket!
what about haicom-405 BT?
Alanplum - I have just brought a SD-502 to go with my O2-Exec - can you tell me what settings you used in GPS Info to get it working...or if you did anything else because i am struggling!
Thanks!
GAAAAAAHHH! Just received my SD-502 today and it does NOT work with the JASJAR. It is a driver problem. Lets hope they bring out a new one soon. It works with my PDA2k.
Received this from US Globalsat:
In reply to your original inquiry... We do have a plan to have sd-502 support PDAs manufactured by HTC( High Tech Corp.)In which, i-Mate Jasjar is part of.
Unfortunately, we do not produce the Sd-502 drivers. These drivers are developed by a third party software company. In result, we can't control the development schedule. Therefore, its difficult to predict driver releases

Which Bluetooth GPS receivers work flawlessly with Wizard?

First time buyer of GPS unit and I need help choosing the right one. Thanks.
Btw, has to work in the UK.
I wouldn't dare say flawless , but the last 2 times i went to GB i didnt experience any problems with my current GPS receiver which is the
Rikaline Bluetooth GPS receiver 6033
this model is generally 20-30euros more expensive than the standard ones but it uses an advanced chipset to even get fixes in buildings and tunnels and can maintain more connections at once.
Manufacturers Site
Cheap one from www.mobilefun.co.uk
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/8590.htm
£40! and works a treat.
Probably not as good as the Rikaline or the Holux 236 which is by far the best i've tried but for they are nearly double the price
Even uses the same kind of charger as the Wizard so effectively you get a free in-car charger for you PPC thrown in.
I successfully use a generic Nemerix based GPS mouse from adapt. You can find these rather cheap GPS device in many varities (lots of OEM manufacturers) on eBay.
In conjunction with TT5.2 it works like a charm.
Any suggestions for a good light GPS to fasten in the helmet. I have plans to track my routes during mountainbike tours.
GPS...
What a topic...
I have spent some time investigating the options for me...
I am a newbie on the PPC front and I am after my first GPS set up too...
OK everyone points at TomTom as the best option...is this so?
Any feedback will be greatly received and if I do go for it, I will probably go for their bundle...
For those running TTN5 on thier Wizards, please advise the speed and any issues...many thanks...

TomTom is also my #1 for road navigation.
What are the best choices for free-time navigation? Some candidates:
Pathaway, http://www.pathaway.com/pathaway3wm.htm, WM5 compatible?
OziExplorer, http://www.oziexplorer.com/
cant fault the holux 236
Nemerix
Hi,
I am using this GPS mouse (NEMERIX V3.0 Ultra Low Power Chipset). Simple installation, simple use, long battery life, cute size - my favourite!
U can get it e.g. here:

Im using a BT77 Bluetooth GPS. It provides a really great signal even inside, however I have had problems with the wizard, in that I have to drop and then re-partner the device in bluetooth, everytime I want to use it, but Im currently thinking its the MS Bluetooth stack at fault and not the Device, anyone have a similar experience ?
Hi,
I already have the tomtom wired gps receiver which i use with my ipaq 2210. I know the receiver connector wont fit onto my wizard but is there any kind of adapter that will change it from ipaq to wizard (min usb i think).
cheers

Afraid not. Wired receivers will not work on Wizard/K-Jam etc.. full stop. you need to get a BT GPS receiver.
I picked a cheap one up from www.mobilefun.co.uk for £40 and works a treat. 5 fixes even in car glove box
The Tomtom Bt Gps is the easiest one to connect to the wizard, other brands u may need to set comm ports in Tomtom navigator.
So far I tested Holux SIRF3, Tomtom MK2, Leadtek sirf3, all were working fine.
my Tomtom MKIII works perfectly with Wiz.
I'm using a BT880 picked up on ebay (new) for £30.
Works fine with my qtek (imate rom) and tomtom5.

XDA Mini S tio wired GPS

Help Help Help.
Recently I had to claim on my O2 insurance to replace my XDA IIi which I was more than happy with. It was running TTN 5 through a TomTom diamond shaped wired receiver and I had the phone going through the Pioneer DEH 70BT raido.
So guess what... O2 will not support or replace for an XDA IIi that went up the swanny and would only offer a XDA Mini S or some other poxy phone. So I take the XDA Mini S set it up with all the brilliant guidance from the threads that I had read. I then obviously have to change the cradle at my cost as O2 wont cover it.
So here is the problem, I have heard that the only GPS reciever you can use on a Mini S in a cradle is a Bluetooth one but as I use the Bluetooth connect to my phone I cannot use both TTN 5,21 and the pioneer at the same time.
So the help that I need if anyone out there has an answer it.......... Does anyone know of a cradle that has serial GPS support for the Mini S in a cradle so that I can still use the bluetooth on the Pioneer or am I stuffed. I have looked at loads of cradle selling sites but they are not very helpful and I am sure one of you top chappies can point me in the right direction. I did purchase a Mini S cradle only to find out that the cradle RJ11 port was to charge bluetooth GPS recievers which is no good for me..... Insurance who needs it huh.
Yours hopefully,, no desperately

THB Bury Car Adapter

Any news on when an adapter will be available? I had this one for my tytn and it is well integrated in my truck.
http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=141685
What is great about this is when you change devices all that is needed is a new cradle, the rest stays.
I have had contact with someone from THB, he told me last wednesday that there are still tests running.
It shows these are now in stock.

yes but this is for tytn and not for kaiser, is't it?
I bought a cradle for the Kaiser, but won't advice anyone to buy it if you want to use TomTom. The instructions are not audible when the phone is in the cradle :-(
