Hi all,
There is probably something stupid I'm doing but I can't send email from my TyTN.
I have a sky email account with my broadband. The outlook settings are pop.sky.com, smtp.sky.com, server requires authentication has to be ticked.
I can receive email on the pda but when i try to send it says: messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device.
Yet I get new messages downloaded ok.
Please, any ideas?

When I try to send a document by email I find that the message is sent to the sms outbox and NOT the email outbox. I have tried to move the message but this does not appear to be allowed. I have tried to find a setting that controls how messages are dealt with but have had no success.
I should be grateful if someone could help me overcome this problem.
Please note that I do not send emails via an account set up on my xda 11. I send emails via outlook when I synchronize.
Thanks

Have you gone to inbox and clicked "services" if you have set up your email it should appear there, if it appear then click so a dot appears next to it, if not then you need click "new service" and set up an email account with your pop3 etc.
Thanks for your advice, which would be fine if I sent emails from my PDA via a pop3 account, but I don't.
I send emails via Outlook which I connect to when I ActiveSync - and before anyone asks this is because I use my PDA for work and I am not allowed to log on to our exchange server other than through our network.
Consequently I do not have a pop3 account to connect to.
Does anyone have an idea how I can force the xda to send documents via the ActiveSync outbox rather than sms?
In Mobile 2003 etc when composing an email you could select the mail account that you were sending it from and alter it to any of the SMTP accounts you had set up, text message or Outlook to synch with your desktop or server account.
You selected it using an ‘accounts’ drop down in the message itself.
I have noticed that this feature does not seem to exist in Mobile 5.0…is this something else that has been removed from this ‘improved’ OS?
Is there any way to get this functionality back?
Cheers
Stef
Looks like you have to do it by choosing the account first, then composing a new message.
They might have done this to stop people accidentally sending messages from the wrong email address
yes but no but
fair but the issue I have is all my email from 3 accounts all go into my 'outlook' account on my home PC but hold the account details within them.
I then synch against this account but if I want to reply to them I have to wait to do it from home to get my sending details right...
This is different to the previous version of PPC and a step back for me!
thats totally right.
why should one accidentally change the smtp server?
I think its very inconvenient if you cant change the sender once you have started to compose the message...
microsoft pls change that...
thx
Hi
am running a charmer with WM5 (obviously).
I have set up pop3 accounts with both yahoo and tiscali and have been using these successfully, if minimally for a while. Recently I have not been able to use my PC and have been hoping to use my device to send and receive email. This has not been the case. For the past week the device will receive full emails from both yahoo and tiscali. When I try to send email via the yahoo account I get a message telling me that my device can't download email and to check my connection and settings and try again. My connection and settings are fine. I have not tried with the tiscali account as yet as I don't really use it anyway.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
The link bellow will take you to a Modaco forum thread that I think is discussing the same thing.

I was able to send emails a few days ago and now i cant? when i hook up to active sync it sends???
am i missing a setting somewhere? I ahv elooked and matched up my phone with my pc outlook
I just deleted my account and then went through the automatic setup thing to set it up again and I get the same message "The outgoing mail server cannot send or recieve messages at theis time. try again later."
maybe your mail server is down? who are you using? is it a free service like gmail or a personal web hosting solution?
I use charter and when theyre down its only for a minute, maybe i should use Gmail?
In my settings on the phone....should they match EXACTLY as they are in my outlook on my pc?
Is there anyone using Charter pop3 email with their mogul that can help me with this prob?
Any reason for this? Each time it says message not sent, error in synch or not connected to the network etc...yet I can download and view messages fine. I am trying to email someone a photo stored on my phone but it just won't send.

You need to enter the smtp address for your network not who your email is with. So for me I'm with o2, so I use smtp.o2.co.uk
Solved, you need to tick the outgoing mail requires authentification box for Yahoo Mail to work.
