Thank you for that, but it is not what i asked about!!! I can write cab files and install them with out my mum and dad, but i can not find the correct reg keys the the things, so can any one help me to look at the right place.
But thank you for your reply!
Please can anyone help here? I am still having problems find a couple things!
You could just use taskmanager from dotfred to extract complete registry :
I know that take a shot before and after installation and then use a tool like winmerge on your pc, will allow you to detect changed keys...
It's probably not the most efficient way (probably araxis merge is better comparator app) but it's free and it does work...

Has anyone else tried to run OzVGA with the new O2 Exec ROM recently released?
I've now tried twice and both times after rebooting into VGA mode it locks on the image with what looks like the sun. I can see the Select and Exit today buttons across the bottom but thats it.
Oh and the signal LED is flashing so at least something is working.
No response from the device at all.
Please tell me someone has seen this and has a fix - I dont think I could handle another hard rest again.
Didn't have these problems with the iMate ROM.
TIA
Jason
ozVGA does not work on the new EXEC/Dopod ROM.
Try another one as attached. I have tested it and it works great!
Bought my XDA Exec a week ago and had been struggling to install OzVGA via downloads from other threads here. Saw your posts here, gave it a go, worked first time. Thanks for the pointer.
Only a small number of font issues with the built-in monitor programs, but the main apps seem to display well. Only unexpected quirk for me is that I can no longer get a fingernail to the Close (red cross) button in the top-right-hand corner - the bezel gets in the way! Still, I'm prepared to sharpen my nails as per a recent thread!
Any clues as to the source - is it a variant of OzVGA, or a different product?
Will this work with the QTEK ROM or is this just specific for O2?

2. Before replacing the files in \windows with the ones contained in "vgasystemfiles" make sure you backup the originals.
3. WM5 do not allow overwriting ROM files from your PC. You can however move the files to your SD and do it from there.
4. You will get a new icon on the bottom right hand corner, for VJBigPhoneRes. If for any reason the phone app does not appear correctly just tap on it and "Load and fix phone".
5. The only phone buttons that do not appear correctly are on the PIN input screen but that's not really an issues since you can type the pin and hit enter.
Hope this helps.

i've tried this on my O2 exec with what so far seems to be a large ammount of success here. (following the instructions in the last post).
I have reco explorer installed so it makes overwriting the rom based files (power.exe etc).
I recommend that you use something like spb backup to back the device up in its entirity before you do this!
Also it would be good if we had a revert application for the phone vbj stuff but for now , hey , it works if you have a spare 10 minutes to set it up.
I surfed to one of my regular sites via opera and it looks excellent on par with the Zaurus SL-3200 runing firefox.
Previously when i tried this alot of the GFX were mangled. so far i've only found a little bit of mangled GFX.
Hudsons IP Dashboard ends up getting a bit squished but its nothing that ruins the uses of the app. Also looks like the bottom right hand corner of active sync has a little bit of corruption. but its not as if it makes the device un-usable.
I'm looking at it now and it looks EXCELLENT! The one thing that concerns me is battery drain, i would have thought this will effect the battery with it having to draw more of a screen now but i'll keep a check on it.
I'm running the latest 02 rom so I can confirm a large ammount of success and if you use spb backup you can easily restore the device should you need to..
to be fair though, you need good eye sight, i've turned the font up to biggest and it still looks good (also helps a little with spacing).
have a bash, don't be scared!

i tried that, but it wone lest em copythe backlight files etc as the files are read only etc? hoe can i replace them?
anyone? i cant figure it out, or if the worst comes to the worst, how do you remove it? or is that hard reset time?
You can copy the files from the SD into the main memory with Resco Explorer. It will allow you to overwrite ROM files.
The file download now seems to be 404 for me. Please could someone else kindly upload the files so I can have some fun too :]
-EDIT-
Managed to find what was needed. Thanks
Greetings,
I had some strange behaviour recently on my Wizard which after much analysis decided to try a hard reset. It worked like a charm and all is well now.
I had to re-install my programs and settings and I also understand that the registry gets returned to factory defaults.
This leads me to something I remember seeing for Windows XP which was a utility that compared reg keys, either using an original and current copy of the registry as a basis for comparison or a real-time utility that informed the user each time a key got changed.
I don't think the Wizard CPU could cope with the latter but a reg compare utility might be useful for future. Does anyone know of such a beast ? I did do some searching and checked the Wiki but couldn't find anything.
TIA,
Tony
I'm looking for the exact same thing. Certain apps change some settings after an install and I want to go into the registry and delete them.
Does anyone know of a good FREE app on the PC side to compare the contents of 2 txt files??
I found SPB Backup backs up the registry into a few text files (this is after you extract them from the backup).
I'm looking for something like this, but free : www.grigsoft.com/wincmp.htm
Personally, I use an XML query of he Reg CSP and then use an XML comparison tool (XML Notepad 2007) to look at whats changed.
I think you have a couple of decent options here... firstly, you could install PHM Registry Editor on the PPC, export the registry both before and after any changes you make. Then copy the exported files to the PC and check for changes using Windiff. This will tell u what has been added, changed or removed between the two files.
Alternatively, take a look at SKTracker (Google) - this app lets you take snapshots before and after, then compare (registry and file changes).
I've used both methods with success, see what you think.

I know this different from the topic a bit, but I was curious if you guys knew of a free registry cleanup app.
Ok, most of you may find this totally useless as a plugin, but it was a combination of a request by user Treo_newb and a desire to create a sample plugin project that could be used as a base / example for plugin writers (I plan on doing an article on codeproject.com and this will be the source for it).
What does it do?
This plugin displays a string stored in registry.
The path is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RegDispPlugin
Value name: DisplayString
It checks if this string has changed several times per second when today screen is shown (as the system sends refresh message to all plugins) and displays the updated message if a change occurred.
What is it good for?
First, if you write apps using mortscript or similar like the user who requested this it will let your script display stuff on today screen.
Alternatively it could be used to mark your device today with a string that isn't as easily changed as user info.
The source is basically a skeleton plugin you can use to build your own plugin on (no license / copyright to limit you) and it already has several tricks needed for the plugin to display correctly:
VGA compatibility
Text size matching system settings
Proper header in settings dialog (like on system plugins)
Proper text color when selected (according to theme)
No blinking all today screen on change
Proper resize when switching between landscape and portrait
When I was writing my first plugin I could not find all these little fixes concentrated in a single article so I had to fish for each one as the bug reports came in.
Hope you will find this little project useful.

Thanks for this!
Thank You Lev.
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks,
You are a legend.
I was almost through with my today plugin and was trying to figure out reading registry values and all of a sudden I get a PM from u about the plugin !!!
Very Cool !!!
OK a few questions,
1. I know that WM_TODAYCUSTOM_QUERYREFRESHCACHE is called for refreshing the today plugin, any ideas about when is it called.
I read somewhere that it was 2 seconds. Is it true?
2. I saw ur code and u have exposed CustomItemOptionsDlgProc in RegDisplay.def, but when I installed the cab file the 'options' is not enabled.
I manually changed the resistry and changed options to dword = 1 and saw ur name and email address.
u might want to enable that by default so that people can notice ur work.
I am planing a commercial release of a new project on basis of this.
Thanks again,
Shailesh
First, you're welcome.
shaileshashar:
1) I ran a debug print on this message once on an iPaq 1710 and it seems to be sent several times per second. This could differ from OS to OS or even from device to device, I am not sure.
If you need specifically timed refresh, or you have an event triggered on new data, I suggest using a timer or maybe a thread that will wait on an event. You can refresh your plugin from anywhere in code by calling InvalidateRect with your window handle.
2) I messed up the cab at first, forgetting to add the Options reg value. Then when I went to upload the fix, I couldn't access the site for about an hour (no idea why, I even rebooted the PC to Ubuntu). Should be fixed now, but I will check it later again (I have to go back to XP for that).
Good luck with your program.

Thanks for the help, will check the fixed cab.
Also a suggestion:
A custom icon could also be incorporated. You can give a option to load a custom icon next to the text in the today plugin.
I know anybody can modify ur code and do it but still.
Actually, I probably should have mentioned this in the original post but I have no intention of adding options to this thing.
This would only complicate the code and turn it in to an actual app instead of a sample project.
But by all means feel free to make suggestions. If this thing does become popular, when I am done with my other projects (like LVMTopBat) which won't be any time soon (unfortunately) I will release a separate version of this plugin with all kinds of options that can be controlled both by user (form the options dialog) and by other apps through registry.
Maybe things like text alignment, size, bold / Italic / underlined.
P.S.
The reason I put the string this plugin loads under HKEY_CURRENT_USER instead of the HKLM where the rest of the plugin registry resides is because by default the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on WM 5 and higher has a security restriction. For example you can not write to it using RAPI, only by authorized (or signed) app on the device. The HKEY_CURRENT_USER on the other hand is open for all.

As a frequent mortscript user I think, this great app might be even more usefull, if the string was shown in an "allways on top" message box instead of the today screen. The Today screen might be obscured by other active windows during the scripts runtime and the plugin eats precious today screen estate also while being unused, doesn't it?
In that case (of a standalone application) I would furthermore introduce some kind of termination string (or reg. value) to end the display application.
Code:
- start mortscript
- writes first string to registry
- starts display application (run)
- updates string in registry whenever appropriate
- ...
- writes termination string to registry
-> display applications self-terminates
- ...
- end of mortscript
Honestly, I already do use something comparable with mortscript (employing a conditioned sleepmessage loop and reading from the registry too), but this could be much nicer and more elegant.
Just my 2 cents... What do you think?
I think something like that would be better implemented by the mortsrit program it self.
It could be a function like MessageBox API in windows which you could then command on and off. Having it built in would save precious resources on the device that would be wasted by having an extra app run constantly in background.
This is just my thought though.
I'd suggest contacting the developer of mortscript and discussing it with him.

Hello levenum,
I just joined the community. Reason being, I found your RegDisplay plug-in
You call it a sample project, but the impact is that of an awesome solution.
Great for MortScript, but equally useful in BASIC applications that write
messages to the registry which is show upon screen minimization.
I regret not being a C programmer (mainly BASIC), else I'd love to further
develop this jewel.
Your plug-in runs flawlessly in an iPAQ 210 under WM6 Classic.
Cheers and Respectful Greetings

CLSID for registry display plugin
What is the CLSID for the Registry Display Plugin? I am going to have to edit the XML file that defines my home screen in order to get the plugin to show up. I am using Facade to control my home screen, and the only plugins that it will show in its list are those currently in use in one of the XML files in the Application Data\Home folder. All other new plugins require editing the XML. Thanks for your help.

This is great! I was asked if I could write a today screen plug-in for my weather application (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445576) - I couldn't since I don't have the skills and I'm writing .NET code - but this is exactly what I needed.
I'm adding support for this plug-in and will of course give credits to you.
there are too many statup programs in my ppc, i wanna use mortscript to manage the starup time.
example:
when i reset my ppc,
program 1 starts after 5 seconds
program 2 starts after 10 seconds
program 3...
THX
there is already a thread for mortscripts....please search on "mortscript examples".
i searched, but i did not find what i wanna
example:
---- snip --
Run ("\Programme\CallFirewall\CallFirewall.exe")
WaitForActive ("Call Firewall", 5000)
Minimize ("Call Firewall")
Sleep(5000)
Run ("\Windows\SAPSettings.exe"
WaitForActive ("BT Remote SIM Access", 5000)
Minimize ("BT Remote SIM Access")
Sleep(5000)
...
Exit
---- snap --
Run - runs the specified app
WaitForActive searches for windowtitle, but max 5000ms
Minimize minimizes specified app
Sleep always waits for specified time (5000ms)
... thats just about how my mortrun in autostart looks like

My point was two-fold:
1. Maybe they had something similar (which you looked and did not find)
2. That "existing" thread was the appropriate place to post this question.
Using existing threads is preferable to creating new ones (actually part of the XDA preferred guidelines).
Looks like someone helped you though!
Hi! I just checked out HD2's Remote Desktop client and it works perfectly on my Win7 box. Actually, it's the best mobile remote desktop client I've ever used!
There is only one minor flaw; is there no landscape mode, or am I just not seeing the option?
Give Gyrator a try. You can set which apps to allow auto-rotate or not.

Thanks for the tip. Although I Google'd a little and read that it doesn't work very well with the HD2.
Shouldn't this be as simple as a small registry tweak? I'm sure there is a value somewhere in the registry that makes Remote Desktop Mobile start in landscape mode.

I'm not certain why you are "sure there is a value somewhere in the registry that makes Remote Desktop [...]" because I know there IS NO such reg-value to make your app start in one orientation or another .
However, there is a registry entry to make it respond to orientation changes as perceived by the G-Sensor, then you can simply turn your device to sideways to switch your program between portrait/landscape/etc...
The easiest way is to use G-Config. The full manual procedure is to make new entries for your program as follows:
1. Navigate to reg key: "HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\Module"
2. Create a new string reg-value with name of program, and its path for the value.
3. Navigate to reg key: "HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList"
4. Create a new string reg-value with the name of program, and its class name for the value.
5. RESET your device (turn off then on).
Hope this helps,
Cheers...

My dear friend, there are SO many apps that do automatic orientation: the most versatile, easiest, and customizable is Change Screen. Get it off of the diamond/raphael forums. Otherwise look for:
Zensor2 (easier), Gsens(lighest), or gyrator (heaviest).

Hi
download app "Change Screen 2.78".
once you install it set default rottation as portrait.it is important cos you don't want any other apps to rottate.(if you do want others, just set the exeptions)
Then go to exeptions and and create new with name "wpctsc" and set it only for landscape.now every time you start Remote Desktop it will be opened only in landscape mode.i use this app since i had my old Touch Pro and now i am using it on LEO and it always 100% worked for me.tried more of them but this one is far the best.
adding some pictures for you to help with settings.
hope that this will help you a bit.
Well, if anybody still needs it...
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\ModuleName]
"Remote Desktop Mobile"="\\Windows\\wpctsc.exe"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList]
"Remote Desktop Mobile"="TSSHELLWND"
how do i find out class names for other programs?
Until we get another solution like Gyrator's neat stylus-out/stylus-in, you can check on the net or use a task manager. I personally use Dotfred's task manager, which shows window classes opened by a program (Applications tab/long tap on applications/Details button/Windows tab).
Now you need to find the right one (Usually the one with the window title, but not necessarily), and type it away.
Real quick example attached.

Tnx man, works great.
Can someone put this into a cab, for non technical users?

I too recommend BsB Tweaks, but here's a CAB file anyway. Just run it and then reset for the changes to take effect
Great. It's was I needed.
I've just a problem with the keyboard language.
I'm French and Leo keyboard is in french. but when I connect to my Windows Server 2008 (also with a french version), the keyboard is detect as english and it's a big problem for key entry.
and changing Leo keyboard to english don't resolve the problem.
any idea?
