Removing MSN - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Is there a reg hack, program, or ROM that enables you to uninstall MSN and other microsoft files i never use? they don't show on the add/remove programs setting. I've done some searching and found 1 or 2 posts that says it's imbedded in the ROM and can't be removed.. If this is 100% accurate, is there a custom ROM out that cooks out the embedded microsoft programs?
Thanks.

Hi...
anybody out there who can give any input..
I also would love to remove those pre installed programs which I NEVER use..

What is the problem with the AntiVirus software?!?!?

Hi guys,
I have just got my new K-JAM (ROM 1.1.9.3 - 9/16/05, Radio 01.01.10, extROM 1.1.9.104), and I am delighted so far.
I have also read a lot about how to remove the antivirus software from the extended rom, etc. On my device, I didn't have this problem at all. I simply used the "Remove Programs" function to remove the antivirus, Backgammon, and also Skype of I wish.
In any case, the Antivirus was not running on my device even before being uninstalled, because I replied "no" to the request for downloading virus signatures. This has made the antivirus software completely inactive. This sounds to me like an easier solution for removing the antivirus software.
On my device, ClearType works in Landscape too, out of the box, without touching the registry.
Have I got a newer sw version or what?
Hope this helps.
some of the early release did not show the uninstall for the antivirus,
there is a fix for this on the i-mate web site

The Ultimate Universal Setup...

Well having been a member of this forum now for a few months I have learned many valuable things. Extended Roms... new software... accessories... flashing... and the list goes on and on... I thank you all for the education. That being said the time has come to choose the Ultimate setup and flash/setup this device one last time (for a while anyway so I wanted to poll the community and see what others are running on their Universals...
1. What Carrier/Radio Version (QTEK, IMATE, O2, TMOBILE etc...)
2. What's in the Extended Rom...
3. What reg hacks...
4. What software is installed on the device... (today plugins etc...)
5. What software is installed on the SD Card...
If you all like I will post the results in a report and we can see what people are really using on their devices.
Again... I want to thank everybody on the forum who so freely shares his information and hard work. Let's keep donating to this site and keep it humming along.

for starters
Yeah this forum is great! From what I've picked up here, I decided to put smallmenu, total commander, and gsplayer in my Extended ROM.
I also like using OzVGA and the Opera browser.
I use Pocket Informant for the PIM stuff, and e-wallet for the more confidential stuff.
I'm in the medical field, and I like the Skyscape medical references.
I also have the core media player and pocket artist. Almost forgot, I use MS Voice Command with my bluetooth headset.
Besides the programs in Extended ROM, pretty much everything else except Voice Command is installed to the SD card.
For games, I mostly play bubble breaker, but I have Doom, Snails, Flux Challenge, and tried the demo for sealball. The Universal is not a great gaming machine IMO, but generally I am VERY happy with my setup.

1. Imate, standard rom available on the site
2. Dont care, I dont install any of it except the communication carrier (telstra) and the bluetooth patch. This gives me a 31 meg startup RAM excluding today and additional startups installed by choice.
3. Limited, MSVC hack for blue tooth (I have done lots in the past, but no real impact that I found beneficial so didnt bother on the last hard reset last week).
4. SPB Pocket Plus (beta 3.1), SPB Weather, SPB Diary, SPB Backup (beta 1.0), Resco Explorer/ftp/reg, MSVC, KSE True Fax
5. Total Commander, Oxios, FeederReeder, TCPMP, Resco Audio, Resco Radio, Resco Photos, Wisbar Advance and Wisbar Desktop (Wisbar is really just play and fun, I would never load today screen configurations from an SD card), Blue Point Earth and Blue Point World Info, Pocket RAR, Microsoft E Reader, Omega One 1 Calc, and Paint. Only game installed Resco Guardians.
Using the SPB backup beta, when I did a hard reset, I did a perfect backup using SPB for all device software with all my tweaks and adjustments, passwords, settings, configurations, wifi and bluetooth settings and passwords, hit most of my sites and put in my user names and passwords and auto login.
Now, when I restore, everything is perfect. I also then did a second with all my perfect apps installed to the SD card, and registered them all and setup all those tweaks, and did another backup. I now have my "virgin" machine, and my "custom" machine.
I also extracted all of the cab files for all of the software, including the entire extended rom and copied them to my SD card for easier and quicker installation and access without needing activesync.
I can now do a full hard reset and configure in about 5 minutes. Startup RAM is now 28meg, but with SPB PP, Weather, and Diary is about 22meg runs down to 12 meg then soft reset. Screen rotation first time is 3 seconds, then sub 1 second on subsequent rotations depending on the next reset.
So overall, and in essence, I am totally f..kin ecstatic with my setup (taken about 10 attempts to get to this)
great post...
Very Informative Simon. I believe that you have a great system for preserving your setup. I will defintely be incorporating it into my ultimate setup.
Good stuff here guys.. keep it coming.

SafeMode: Which programs offer it & are WM5 compatible?

I require my VARIO to have the option to boot in SafeMode. So far I've done this with Spb Pocket Plus - but since it is such a memory hog I want to get rid of it.
So far I only found two tools that offer SafeMode:
Spb Pocket Plus ( which I want to get rid of )
mCubeSafeMode or SafeMode 1.02 ( not WM5 compatible, installed fine but did not work for me )
So what other choices do I have? What other ( hopefully tiny tool ) will let me enter safemode at boot time?
Help is appreciated. Best regards.
Slightly off topic, but do all of these programs provide the same form of "safe mode"? And if so, what does that consist of? Safe Mode is not an OS feature, so I'm curious what cross over there is.
V
Sometimes programs are unable to be un-installed because some parts are loaded, or maybe a newly installed program makes trouble.
So you simply enter SafeMode and are then able to un-install these "troublemakers". Since I try out alot of stuff I don't want to miss this great feature.
I'm not sure, but what I've noticed from Spb's safemode, it disables added today screen items and startup processes. There may be more that it does too.

Yep, thats what it does. So any chances that another program will do this?
There's a buzzdev thread about this. Someone posted a file in the last post. I didn't try it out because I have that feature with pocket plus, but you may want to try it.

If you use memmaid and look at services these 'programs' are moved to the top of the service order list, (therefore they are the first things the OS runs)... they basically have a small gui that says "you want to run safe mode" and if you say yes... they stop all the other services from starting, stop STARTUP items from running, and don't let any of the dlls load for today plugins.
The problem with mCubeSafeMode on WM5 is that services have to be certified signed to run in WM5, so even though it installs, its not allowed to run at boot time. I would have thought though that the un-certified builds on buzz/xda-dev would get around that?
I have a Jam now, no WM5 for me
Yep mCubeSafeMode would be great if it would only work with WM5 - but so far only Pocket Plus is able to do a SafeBoot on WM5 that I am aware of. I hoped I only missed another tool, but sad to say it seems to the only working version for WM5
SPB Pocket Plus
pocket plus has the option of booting in safe mode also

I know! Thats what I said in my first posting - but I want to get RID OF POCKET PLUS - that is the whole reason for this thread!
DreamBoxer: Are you running a certification-free WM5 ROM though? I actually talked to the mCubeSafe author about this, and the belief is services might actually need a Microsoft certificate, but he wasn't sure.... if it doesn't work with a cert-free ROM then I guess he was correct...
I had the same problem when I had a WM5 device I despirately wanted to NOT run SPB (too much bloat) but ultimately its the only one that had it...
You could install SPB and hunt around with memmaid and the registry to try and figure out how to just set the services only and remove everything else. You would have to install the service program, (maybe using memmaid) and move it up the service list to be first... in theory it should be do-able...

pontui ui on BA WM6 HELMI
Long process to get to installed programs or settings.Ocassionaly encountered problems with pockettv(blurred) and camera won't start.Soft reset is needed to overcome the problem. Installed Pontui using CAB file and after uninstalled using WM6 Remove programs, the software remained under /program files.Manually deleted pontuis folder, but the icons remained under programs.Unable to delete them. At bottom tray, can't delete Home(used to be tray for Phone).
Any advise to remove them?TQ

how to uninstall apps?

is there any fully uninstallation way?! or just delete the whole folders?
i wanna delete opera, and tomtom navigator
You can remove Tomtom from Start->Settings->System->Remove programs. Opera is not removable this way, because its integrated into the ROM, but you can install any other browser, and if you want to start it from M2D then you can change the icon's settings with M2DC.
Why do you want to remove them? There is a lot of free space on the device...
thanks for the help, in the meantime i found how to remove the tomtom by my own
just want to uninstall opera cause theres allready an explorer on it, and i just installed skyfire. and the skyfire is really good. its faster and in many ways better.
anyway thanks for the help!
