GPS Photo - P3600 General

Did anyone get the GPS Photo running yet? I see "Initializing gps" and it keeps at that message. When I disable "Automatically manage gps applications" in control panel, Gps Photo reacts with "Unable to find gps", so when enabled it does find the gps. Maybe it's waiting for a certain number of satellites?

you have to wait untile the fix of the satellites. The first time it takes around 2-3 minutes

I had a fix because I used my navigaton software already. I think I found the reason: gps control panel was set to 38400 baud, changed it to 57600 and now it works. No idea if that is the real reason but that's the only thing that I've changed.
I know that the baudrate is enough at 4800 for gps though, but maybe the photo application is hardcoded for 57600?
Thanks

iGO8 gps connection doesn't stay alive

Hi,
I have some problems with iGO8 and my Blackstone. Currently I am using 8.0.0.x with the iGO8 Ultra skin (modified by kikker). However it looks and works just great, beside the fact that the gps connection doesn't stay alive.
So, after five minutes of navigation it drops the gps connection for a few seconds. Sometimes even the display turns off, and turns back on after a few seconds. In these situations I can find a indicator in the upper corner, which shows that there is no gps signal. After a few seconds the whole nonsense is over and it works great again, until the next gps "drop".
I have changed the polling interval up- and downwards and I don't think its a matter of the polling interval. I have flashed the latest radio, which doesn't work either .
I haven't noticed such problems with any other gps program I am using (BeeLineGPS, gMeter, GoogleMaps), so maybe it is something specific to iGO8 and the gps hardware.
It really annoys me and makes sure that I can't use my Blackstone for serious navigating, since it collapses in important situations.
Is there anything I can do about this?
Best regards
johnpatcher
I am not experiencing such problems on my end so I can't say it is a problem with iGo8.
However, I did encounter the symptom you mentioned when I was testing out TomTom and it was because aGPS was turned on. Once turned off, it works like a charm.
As for the turning on/off, that looks more like and iGo settings. Go to Settings > Device in iGo to make the change and it should not power off.
Hi,
A-GPS is disabled already, so this can't be the issue.
I don't think that the settings of iGO8 are wrong, because the display stays on while I have a gps, but after the gps signal gets lost (for a few seconds) the display is turned off.
Hi, At first sorry for my english. I have the same problem than you, but by the moment I resolved it executing first HTC GPS Tool or other similar programs as VisualGPSce, GPS Utilities and later close those programs and start iGO.
I Have iGO 8.3.2 on COM4 at 9600 Baud, with other speeds fail always.

The strange thing is that I can connect with any speed, just as I want to.
I should also say that I am using GpsGate, maybe its something up to GpsGate, will check it later.

GPS

I cant seem to get my GPS working all the time. I've got some Freecaddie software but the GPS seems to work when it wants. What do I need to do to get it to work everytime I use the software?????
It should work out of the box, and works very well.
For the first fix though, stand under open sky for a while.
Are you using the GPS indoor? Getting a fix indoor is quite difficult and not possible in most cases until you are not standing next to a window.
i have a similar problem, i´m using igo on my hd and it worked very good in the beginning, but since a while when i start it, it gets a normal gps fix but then the gps connection only lasts a few seconds (5-6) and then looses connection for about 30 secs and when it finally finds it again it lasts again only 5-6secs...
can anyone help me? it´s very annoiying when i´m in a foreign town where i don´t have a good orientation and my navi system won´t help me at all
Hmmmmm - this should work "out of the box" whenever you use a GPS application.
Try this free app: Chartcross GPS Test 1.04 http://www.chartcross.co.uk
It will scan for a GPS device if you have one (as HD does).
that´s not my problem, igo finds my gps receiver...
GPS signal dissapears for 30 seconds then re-appears.
This is resolved by a soft reset, although in one case (When I actually was lost) it took 6 consecutive soft resets to finally start working whereas normally it only takes one or two...
I would be very interested to hear if anyone has a resolution to this issue?? or any idea's what may cause it not to work properly before one or two soft resets??
mine kept stopping for 30 seconds while I was driving, soft reset is a bit of a pain.. does QuickGPS help ?

Definitely, having QuickGPS updated won't hurt. Some people says it doesn't help much, but it should. It downloads updated data from satellites so that the internal GPS does not need to wait for that info. Anyway, GPS worked for me out of the box, without QuickGPS; it does the work very well and is quick fixing the position. Try GPS Test, as said above.
I have Duffy's 1.7 ROM (and admittidly this issue has only started since I loaded this ROM, Quick GPS is on, but shouldn't affect anything ONCE the satalites are locked... what happens is the satalites pick up for 30 seconds then off for 30 seconds then on then off ad infinitum. I use Tom Tom 7 and CheckPOInt, other than that fairly standard apps... core player etc. At the mo I'm just in the habit of soft reseting before starting GPS, from a soft reset button in touchflo programs its not so bad. Anyone else experiencing this exact thing of 30 on and 30 off??
The problem of losing GPS regularly happens if you have assisted GPS active. Uncheck this and all will work fine.
Does it still lock on fairly quick without Agps? I must admit I have not tried yet.
I have a problem where I've tried TomTom7 and in the GPS status screen it shows up to 7 or 8 satellites really quickly (maybe 10 seconds) then they all disappear a few seconds later, and it says something like "Are you sure you aren't inside a building?" (yes, I just didn't notice obviously!), then a few seconds later they all appear again & then off & on etc.
It's annoying but when they are showing they give a relevant position and speed.
Is this the same problem? No-one knows what is causing it I assume?
Crett, ( and a bunch of you above) sounds like you have AGPS enabled. AGPS (assisted GPS) must be disabled or it will do exactly what you are describing.
Cheers, and yes, I have got Agps activated. But it doesn't explain why it happens though.
Does the gps still work well without the download assistance?
It works flawlessly without AGPS and from what I remember (not 100% on this) , the AGPS is a bug through all HDs (drivers prolly) might even be throughout other htc phones

as i understood it, if your cellphone provider does not submit a proper agps signal, the htc always resets the gps with the faulty data. so switch of agps.
how do I disable agps??
cheers
Start, Settings, System, AGPS Settings, Disable.
And yes, it's working fine with it disabled.
Thanks

hmm haven't heard that but good to know. Now is the problem that htc coded it wrong (waiting for a wrong signal that doesn't come?)? That would be my take on it, since i haven't heard of anyone having the agps working (otherwise I'd think it would be the cell companies fault).
not sure if this helps, but i was just pratting around with settings in tomtom as mine was loosing signal every 30secondstoo. changed to max baud rate on com 4 and its now working sweet as

GPS

Has anyone gotten the GPS picture capability functioning? I tried just setting the enable key for it in the registry but it just sits there saying GPS initializing.
Yup, no problem with this.
But, when I'm inside (so no GPS) the camera switches back to 'nomal mode' but won't remember that I was using GPS photo mode. (So, next time I have to choose GPS mode again)
I have A-GPS enabled. But also GPS is always on (using GpsGate)
I have the same problem. Haven't made any tweaks on A-GPS in the registry though.

You have to wait until the GPS hardware gets a fix. The hardware needs some time to determine your position after being turned on.
do a "quick gps" download, go outside turn on the camera in gps mode.
then after ~30secs the initializing message should disappear and you can make position tagged photos.
Also, if you've changed the COM port that your phone uses for the GPS, then many programs will have problems using it.

GPS not locking satelites

Hello. I own a HTC HD 2 and my GPS seems to be malfunctioning.
I am trying to search for sattelites and it doesn't find anything.
I tried GPS test and Igo, nothing works.
Tested outside.
What should i do ?

I had a similar problem with my HTC Diamond. Try Turning off, take the battery out for 5 mins then turn back on. It worked for me.
It is not working for me
Try to get out of the house

right .. hd2 have one of the best gps receiver... igo8 for me is working faster than my ex-tomtom 520.. i think kpyhere needs to change his sys.txt and delete the content of the save folder ... do a search, under the thread of apps will find some good sys
PS - i never used QuickGPS, not even after a flash of a new rom
I got outside, staid there for a couple of cigarettes, but the gps was not locking to the satelites.
Tried GPS test. This doesn't want to work either...
Maybe a Fix for GPS not finding Satelites
I had the same problem, I tried all the suggestions in this thread and even from the entire forum.
I finally decided to turn AGPS off and amazingly, IGO8 and TOMTOM now find Satelites within 10 seconds. My thinking about this, is that AGPS is trying to find a lock using Cell towers first and this is causing the delay.
Anyway, my two cents worth and maybe it will help.
I'm just using the stock ROM on TMOUSA, but I get a lock on a cold start in about 10 seconds. It is so much better than the Touch Pro 1 or 2.

where do you turn off the AGPS? Thanks a lot!
I would like an answer to that question too.
Seems to be working with this one

So, no solution to this.
Still waiting for ideas.

If you go to Settings, then to Location, it should be there or you could use the tweaks program in the previous post.
Update
I have just arrived in New Zealand (Auckland), started up iGO8 and within 10 seconds I have a lock on 5 satelites. Still have AGPS turned off.
When I get back home (Melbourne), I will turn on AGPS and report back how long it takes to find lock.

I have no AGPS setting in Location from Settings.
Can it be found elsewhere without using a tweaking program?
Thanks
Here's how to get te best from this cute app
I found here http://htcpassion.wordpress.com/2008...indows-mobile/ a procedure that allows to get ULTRA FAST GPS FIX. I tried it and seems to work! I'm really astonished. Note: all benefits will be lost if device is switched off or battery is removed.
Let me translate the procedure and add some personal details for non italian mates:
1. Download and install .cab file.
2. Start application and set port (my Artemis default is COM4) and baud rate (my setting is 4800 but 56000 works too).
3. Place your device in a good position for gps fix (open air possibly, not under trees, not close to tall walls,buildings..).
4. Click Open and wait 10 sec.
5. Choose Clear Memory from the scroll-down menu.
6. Click Nav. Init.
7. Wait at least 5 min.
8. Click Close and wait 10 sec.
9. Close application, turn off the device and remove battery.
10. Wait 10 min.
11. Put battery back on, restart device, start HTC GPS TOOL.
12. Check the correct port and baud rate.
13. Click Open and wait 10 sec.
14. Choose Warm Start from the scroll-down menu.
15. Click Nav. Init.
16. Be patient (can take up to 10 min.), relax watching the Satellite Tab and wait for a fix (satellites will turn to green and you'll hear a beep).
17. Click Close and wait 10 sec.
18. Soft-reset your device.
19. Start your favourite GPS application and enjoy LIGHTSPEED FIX!!
Thanks&Greetings to fAnThaMaN.
Feedback will be appreciated aswell as an explanation of what really this procedure does to improve GPS performance so much..if anyone has suggestions..As far as i can understand it clears GPS memory and sets a Warm start..Anyway all the above mentionned waiting times of the procedure (except step 16...) can be drastically reduced if your time is gold

I've found this app over here and tried the gps again. Seems that this one senses some movement over the GPS. I am trying to follow the tutorial but i get this error. What should i do ?

I am now back home, turned on AGPS and iGO8 and all my other GPS related apps do not get any satellite locks, I left iGO8 running for 30 minutes and still no locks.
I turned off AGPS and iGO8 found them within 10 seconds.
For me this is working. It maybe worth a try.
Still having problems with the gps...
Seems that i can;t get it working
I had similar problem with Asus A696. One day, it saw satellites (red bars in iGo or proper GPS receiver on in GPSTest), but without positioning.
It was dead amplifier (unfortunately) so if nothing else will help, I'd send it to HTC back...

GPS FIX apps, what's the best?

I've just installed "faster gps" and "faster fix" do you know them?
what's the best? how can i reset to factory settings the gps server?
Thanks
i know a much better app. its called: "go outside"
seriously, i have big problem with the gps when i'm even "slightly" inside a building. even after 30 minutes it will not get a fix. but as soon as i'm outside (as in "when i look up i see the sky"), the device gets a fix literally withhin seconds.
you could try gps status https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5lY2xpcHNpbS5ncHNzdGF0dXMyIl0.
i'll try go outside. instead of gps status i'd rather prefet gps test
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
i've set italian gps server and now the fix comes in less than 20 secs. great!
