Does anyone know what the difference between the Standard and Professional SDK's is?
The WM6 platforms has been renamed...
Pocket PC >> WM6 Classic
Pocket PC Phone Edition >> WM6 Professional
SmartPhone >> WM6 Standard
Don't ask me why... because don't really understand it

Am getting ready to start a couple of test development projects on my
Windows Mobile 5.0 device.
First question - is there support anywhere for additional language packs?
This is a WM5.0 ROM 1.6.7.1 WWE device (Qtek 9100 - HTC - Wizard).
Or does WM5 require regional versions to be installed for language support in that region?
Would also be greatful for a brief explanation of the WM5.0 lineage.
Is Windows Mobile 5.0 - really a Pocket PC Phone edition?
What flavor of Windows do Smart Phones use?
Does Windows CE still exist?
Any help or info greatly appreciated.
Hi, Waters.
Here are some brief answers in order, hope they help:
1. On WM systems installing support for other languages is tricky so if you don't have a device with local ROM you will have to pay for and install special software. One company I know that does a lot of localization is Paragon ( www.penreader.com )
2. WM5 – Windows Mobile 2005 the latest version of OS for PPC platform, preceded by WM 2003 (4.2, 4.21 second edition – VGA support) and WM 2002 (3.0) etc.
3. All WM versions come in both regular and phone edition, WM5 is no different. The phone edition simply has the extra support for phone integrated devices, like drivers, dialer programs, etc.
4. Smart phones use WM for smart phones which differs form the PPC version by its shell (no touch screen) and tougher security.
5. Win CE most definitely exists, in fact Windows Mobile 5 is a derivative of CE 5 designed for PPC devices. There are other devices like nav consoles for cars that use win CE in either pure or custom tailored form.
Good luck with your projects! 8)
Thanks for the reply. Very helpful indeed.

Hi,
I was using wm6 sdk with Visual Studio 2005 to develop small apps for my needs.
I just want to try my chance with VS 2008 so I uninstalled VS 2005 and installed VS 2008
However, now if I try to install WM6 sdk, it requires VS 2005.
What is the solution for this ?
Is there a seperate WM6 sdk for VS 2008 ?
Btw, do I need to install any other SDKs (.NET Compact framework 3.5 ?) to work with VS 2008 ?
Thanks.
Isn't it part of 2008? Maybe need only the refresh?
what is refresh ?

(refresh download)
It says:
System Requirements
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, Standard Edition or above (Express Editions are not supported). SP1 and SP1 Update for Windows Vista required.
Simple Fix?
For the WM6 SDK, you need VS 2005 or better yet VS 2008, the reason it' not working for you is probably because you've installed the Express Edition of VS. You need either Standard or Professional edition of VS to use WM6 SDK. It took me forever to figure out this little snag of a detail. Hope this is your fix!

P.S. You also need to install .net framework 3.5.
there are only Windows Mobile 2003
i need to upgrade and write programs for 6.1
Microsoft already released WM6 SDK

Hello everybody,
Can anybody tell me if it's possible to flash the HTC Advantage X7500
with a very old version of Windows Mobile - like Pocket PC 2002 / Windows
Mobile 2003 instead of the original Windows Mobile 6 Pro.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Well, i can't see the benefits in it,
but you would have to cook your own ROM.
If you're able to do so it may work.
