Trinity=Dopod D810??? - P3600 General

G'Day Crew,
First post, sorry for the newbie question.
I assume they are one in the same?
I am looking at getting the Dopod D810 from Optus (Australia) to replace my N73. I want to use the GPS side of things.
Will the Optus batch of D810's have the GPS chipset in them?
Am I able to update the rom to use the GPS?
Where can I purchase the correct version of TomTom to use with the Dopod D810? (if I cant get it I will probably not get the Dopod).
I look forward to your replies. Please help, I have tried the GSM forums and Whirlpool and so far no help has been forthcoming.
I do have the TomTom for Symbian S60 V3 though....................
Kind regards,
BIQ

First of all, the dopod 810 is the same as the P3600 or trinity, and therefor all operator version will have the GPS chipset. I don't know if it is allready activated if you buy the device, but the chip is there

Yes, but you probably have to remove the CID lock, there are two ways to do this, both to be found on this forum
Where can I "purchase" the correct version of TomTom to use with the Dopod D810? (if I cant get it I will probably not get the Dopod).

That version will not work on a WM2005 device I think, but since I don't have that version, I really don't know....

1) You might not need CID unlock if the version that is coming soon is already for your device.
(Stranger where are the two methods? I only saw one)
2) I am not sure I like "purchase" in quotes.
3) Symbian tomtom is COMPLETELY a different version and no S60 software will ever work on your future PocketPC. (ah... the effects of bringing telephony to PDA... you bring the whole mass of consumers that don't really know what PocketPC is all about)

isn't there a free unlocker on these forums now? since I used imei-check, I haven't read that post yet, but if that works, that would be method number 2

no it doesn't work yet

Sorry NLS about "purchase" have edited the post.
I have found the tomtom site very confusing. I am hoping to get the Dopod D810 from Optus tommorow. I am unsure what the operating system is and therefore not sure which version of tomtom to get.
I was hoping that someone with a trinity using tomtom could tell me which version of tomtom they are using. The Dopod 810 is not listed under the tomtom web site.
Any further help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
BIQ

The operating system is Windows Mobile 5, or you may find it (although older versions, still compatible) as PocketPC (2003/2003SE).
Also do much more research because a PocketPC phone is a phone but also 1000 more things than a phone (or even a smartphone). It will be a pity to miss this.

HTC P3600 (also known as Trinity/Dopod 810) is listed as compatible with TOMTOM ver. 6 :
http://www.tomtom.com/products/features.php?ID=260&Category=2&Lid=1

I'm using TomTom 6 PPC version on my HTC P3600, and it works great...

GPS Users

Hi Folks
Well, I'm looking at taking the GPS route soon, but I've a few queries about SatNav software.
I'm UK based and will be looking for some software to go on my M3100.
I don't like TomTom. I have tried it in the past and it is not to my liking. Sorry.
I've tried Navigon Mobile Navigator but I don't know if that is compatible with WM5 and I've got Memory Map to try soon enough. However, I'm also interested in what other people have got to suggest?
Thanks all in advance

Wayfinder's demos look pretty nice. Any idea how it compares to Telenav?
http://www.telenav.com
for uk based you try copilot, or navman, destinator, infomap pocket navigator dont bother with aa it runs way to slowly, the same goes for igo it will run fine but you need a tf card which i dont thnk its available on have a look at tomtom again things have changed since v2 and 3 not all for the better have a look at new go the app is the same
what about i-go?

I like igo for it's coverage of some eastern european countries (like Croatia) which I visit, but the others don't cover. I prefer tomtom for interface and features.
Best of all I'd like tomtom with full country coverage.
As it is, I use igo and forgo the speed camera notification.
Navigon works on WM5
Hi,
I am using my copy of Navigon V5.0 on both a T Mobile MDA Vario II (Hermes) and o2 XDA Exec, both running WM5. Works fine and looks lovely in VGa on exec.
Good luck

Thanks Richard There is an upgrade I can, er, download too that I think I'll give it a go.
Just need a bigger than 128mb microSD now But Yaay! This is good!!!
Thanks All

win mobile 6 on herald?

many roms of wm6 are around on known sites for specific models.is anything for our herald too?ive read that there is going to be an official update to wm6 of this model so there must be something around, even beta.
Mhhm, i couldn´t find anything by now....
Lets wait a little, i think HTC is going to release something for us, soon
No one cooking any roms for the Herald tho?
doesn't look like it, i looked into porting one of the wizard roms but i didnt get very far! its definately possible to flash your own roms though. Also its worth remembering that HTC have promised us wm6 roms before June. I would much rather have that than a pre-release wm6 rom as the ones that are avaliable for the wizard, hermes etc.
As far as i know, everyone is content with AKU 3.2

well i have used crossbow on my wizard and the only difference i see are pretty icons and html mail. i dont really care about either, and more importantly my herald is very stable, cant remember the last time i had to soft reset never mind hard reset. so thats why i can wait until htc do their thang!
I hear one handed uses on WM6 is way better and that windows update feature looks very promissing.
O2 may be releasing an HTC Herald as O2 XDA Terra, with WM6 on it.

HTC Herald (aka Tmo Wing)
I bought a T-Mobile Wing 2 days ago (obviously it has WM6 on it) Where-as it is stable - I am rather disappointed that they removed the native VoIP support - thus I am waiting for someone to cook a ROM and put it back in so I can do the Hybrid Cell/VoIP thing that I was Previously doing on my Wizard (MDA) - I still have my Wizard which I use strictly for VoIP at home.

Windows Mobile 6.0?

Hello all,
is it possible to upgrade to WM6?
Thanks.
apparently no WM6 ROM and i doubt there ever will be one. There isnt a WM5 for it anywayz so how could there be a WM6 ?!?!
I rather buy a proper WM6 HTC device than waiting for someone to get a wm6 rom for it.
Well... there was WM5 for the XDA.
Anyways, I'm happy with my phone, but I would like them big graphics from WM6 .
Well, if any body hears of anything, please give us a shout.
Ta.
no there was never a real wm5 for wallaby

You are right there was never a WM5 for the Alpine. I had downloaded and installed WM5 on my Hymalya (at that time). My bad.
And of course, I trust that there are people out there working on a compatible WM6 version (right Indra?) and I would be happy to try it if it becomes a reality.
Cheers.
i dont want to have WM6.0,but lookforward to WM5.0 haha,
Well, did anyone managed to get WM5 working?
HTC P6300 is similar to Alpine and it has WM5. Anybody has the HTC P6300 software to try out. I've been lookin' but no luck so far...
Alright, forget the above question, I should be reading the other discussions...
"HTC P6300 is similar to Alpine and it has WM5"
well looking alot like it will not make them that similar
it all comes down to cpu and the whole hardware setup

I just read the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326077. It seems Helmi was able to create a WM6 for the Himalaya (QTEK 2020). It also seems to be quite stable, so let's hope that this guy will help us Alpine users too...
I for one would be eternally grateful!!!!
I have been waiting for it to be WM6.0 till i sold off and get atom
I wish someone would do WM5 for my Alpine

TomTom 7 out for WM 6.1

After over six weeks finally an answer from TomTom - could not be worse, it reads:
"Navigator 7 is a software product that is only available as an exclusive offering that comes preloaded on specific handsets that are available only in Europe. As such, unfortunately we do not have a Navigator 7 solution for your handsets. Outside of TomTom’s policy, our exclusivity with the handset manufactures prevents us from complying with your request. We do apologize for any inconvenience."
Is that no the best way to loose customers....
Although there are other ways to get TomTom 7 on your Xperia, that sucks indeed.
Looks like you won't get an official one. That sucks of them to be honest. I'm not an 'honorable' customer myself as I use a cracked one. But this is a fail-safe way of making paying customers go away.
If they won't sell it, that's their fault...
There are plenty of places to get TT7 on the net and it works a treat on the X1.
IGO8 is so much better than Tomtom anyway. I love igo8.
TomTom 7 - v7.910.9185 is the latest version available to download, works great on x1 but I agree igo 8 is better.

Not really.
IGO has no automatic intelligent traffic rerouting based on real world traffic jams. No automatic updating of speed camera's (fixed & mobile). Igo does have a clickable navigation screen though. I.e. you can click on something your passing and see what it is. Tomtom 6 misses that, don't know about 7.
for me, tomtom 7.910 works like a charm
Did you have to do anything special to get 7.910 installed on yor X1. Everytime i try it comes up with device not supported.
Do you need to be connected to the internet to use tomtom7?

Search for TomTom 7 Repack VGA Black
( TT_Nav_7.910.9185_vga_black.cab )
The unmodified version wont work because the X1 is not a "real" HTC -Device.
I have all the files and maps if anyone wants.

You are NOT allowed to link to these files here because it's illegal to share instead of buying!
I can't seem to find a GPS signal for some reason...I have the latest maps and all...Does tomtom work by itself on the phone, or does it need an external antenna?

There is however a workaround. Download Resource Hacker, open a copy of TomTom Navigator.exe and remove the resource under HI_RES_AWARE. Save the file and replace on device.
Then I would recommend to install the navigation panel to easily run tomtom in landscape without having the keyboard out. If you use panels, that is ..
The text in the statusline is getting bigger as well, and portrait navigation is a bit narrow.

is it possible to install windows mobile 5?

Hi,
sorry if this has been asked before, i searched but found nothing specific so here goes.
i have been asked by my bro-in-law to downgrade his t-mobile mda compact v to wm5 so he can use the apps he needs to use for his job as a sky satellite engineer.
apart from ruining a perfectly good phone, i'm afraid that it will run like poo and crash often.
so, is there a way to install a wm5 rom to this handset and where do i find a compatible rom?
any help is greatly appreciated
thanks
ave'
i dont think thats possible, but the apps he use should work in wm6 too.
i use apps from wm2003 and wm5 in wm6 so that wouldn't be a problem i think
cheers mate,
i will try that route and see how it goes.
ever tried looking for an old phone that still running wm5 at ebay?
