I have an VODAFONE VPA COMPACT III (v1605), which I am trying to use with a Bmobile SIMM card in Barbados.
When I first tried the SIMM card I never got a signal, the phone just kept searching despite the fact that I have good covereage. When I insert a pre-paid Vodaphone SIMM card the phone works perfectly.
Incase the phone wasn't unlocked when purchased it I have ran HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe on the phone to unlock it. The PDA now shows an ! after the signal symbol and when opened the message says No Service. Both the Network selection and Network bands are set to Auto.

I just got my new M5000 yesterday, bought off Ebay.
It was sold as unlocked - but the phone refuses to accept my sim card for some reason - tells me invalid or missing sim. And yes, my sim works fine on another telefone. I have tried another sim from a friend in my M5000, and that works fine. Does anybody know if the M5000 has some limitation as to what sim cards it accepts?
Thanks, Paul

If you have Sim card very old - I always happens - change it for free at your operator for 3G ( UMTS) services.

Not tried it, but UK O2 Orbits are not network locked, you can put any SIM in - although with it not being a 3G device, there seems little point in putting a Three SIM in as it will just drop back to whichever GSM network Three piggybacks on (O2 I think). I'v just bought a three sim for £1.25 on ebay, so I'll load it up and see what the coverage is like near me - I only get intermittent t-mobile in my place...
it used to be possible but then 3 started to locking their sims so they only worked in 3g phones
aha!
im not so fussed about the 3g coverage its more being able to use that sim card in the phone, whethe rit roams off of o2 or etc. i got my phoen unlocked (originally t-mobile compact 3) and its the only simcard that doessnt work - thats why im suspicios of this shop[ who says they can doo it for £50
please keep me updated as to how your simcard goes, and if anyone knows a way of doing this im all ears!
I purchased a 2nd hand o2 xda exec on ebay, and put my old o2 SIM in it but it constantly says searching. At first I thought this may be because the SIM was an old 2G not 3G sim, so I purchased an o2 3G PAYGO sim and tried again.
CE 1.30.107, Extended 1.30.162, Radio 1.0.9
Still no luck....
I've tried Buzz's Unlocking utility just in case it was locked to a different network, but this being an o2 device I would expect it to be locked to o2 if anything. The unlock utility said it succeeded in unlocking. But still no service.
After a while I get a box appearing with:
Select a network:
O2-UK
@ VF-UK
@ Orange
@ 23420
T-Mobile UK
I've even seen a 'G' icon & and while at work a 'U' icon, so I would guess the radio does work.
I've even checked out the imei to make sure it wasn't blocked on the network (lost/stolen).
I'm a little stuck now what to do, other to use it as a PDA without phone functionality. I might see if i can borrow a Vodafone or Orange SIM to try out.
Anyone seen anything similar, or have any ideas?
Vodafone works
I just tried a vodafone SIM, it worked fine.
I'm having the same problem with an old O2 genie sim it cant find the network any ideas as to why?
If you have seen a G and a U symbol then it HAS actually registered on the network, else you'd have seen an X there. so that rules it out as an IMEI lock out.
Ok as a long shot upgrade your radio to 1.15 and give that a whirl.

Travelled from UK to USA and using my HTC TyTN II changed UK O2 SIM card for an AT&T SIM card. Used loads of KOA Kamp sites wireless and once AT&T 3G SMS and voice services in USA and all worked fine.
Returned to UK removed AT&T SIM card inserted UK O2 SIM card and of course sods law my O2 SIM card will not register or connect to UK O2 Network.
HTC TyTN II dialogue box displays a message "Smart chip not provisioned MM 2" and that a data connection, that I cannot find, needs changing.
I Phoned the UK O2 customer services and very helpful a call centre operator says your phone needs replacing (like hell it does)
I suspect that registering the AT&T SIM card a registry setting is changed and that it is an altered that is causing the UK O2 network connection failure.
Is it possible that someone will tell me what has occurred and/or a solution?
PS Enjoyed the two white knuckle car rides Highway One South Big Sur to LA and Westport CA to Bodega Bay!
if it's a reg then a hardreset should set it straight
When a SIM Card not working "Think Simple"
Thank you
17 July 2007 called HTC technical support staff Edyta, reference 080717 UK 08315084 replaced O2 SIM card that will not connect to Network.
Retest using T-Mobile SIM TyTN II works just fine. Insert an O2 XDA other O2 SIM Card and TyTN II works just fine. Contacting O2 for a replacement SIM. O2 sending replacement SIM card with failed SIM card existing mobile number and carried forward credit.
Moral here is think simple
my HTC P3600 was purchased in the UK and was locked on the Orange network. I got it unlocked before moving to Canada to study. I purchased a sim card from one of the GSM mobile operators (Fido). But when I insert the sim card into my phone it shows me as roaming and the network also charges me roaming service rates even though I am not in a roaming area.
I upgraded the ROM from WM5 to WM6.1 and still the the problem is not fixed.
I also used the sim and CID unlocker (http://pof.eslack.org/trinity-unlocker/) to "reunlock" it but that also didn't work.
Can anyone help me out here. I love my phone and would like to use it instead of getting another one.
So please whatever suggestions you have would be welcomed.
thanks in advance
