Hi got a strange problem, whilst trying to overwrite my opera6.adr on my device.
Basically i'm trying to update my bookmarks after rom upgrade, everytime i overwrite the file either through activesync or resco explorer it just reverts to a smaller version with only three bookmark folders in it.
Driving me nuts anyone know of a solution, if you do top man

I upgraded to the T-mobile ROM 1.60WWE. Noticed that whenever i copy/cut/paste any file big/small to and fro from SD and PDA is hangs with the rotating circular thingy. Same goes for copy/cut/paste any file big/small onto the unit itself in different folders. Anyone has a solution to that? Or should i use back resco file explorer?
Although I have been able to copy this file in the past, recently I began getting a message that says it is locked because another process is using a portion of it. And this when there are no running processes on the device (according to Spb Pocket Plus). Anyone have an idea on what may be accessing the file?
Thanks!

Maybe a today calendar plugin like todayagenda, pocket breeze etc.. disable them thru today\options then try copying again.
My question to you would be are you using resco order the default file explorer. only the default explorer will let you copy this file. resco and other file explorer are guarded against this due to it being a
"safe " file . Good luck
...it must be something else because i can copy it with gsplayer while it isn't my default file-explorer. Even with pocketinformant opened it's not locked for me. Can you see with i.e. SK Tools processes if one of the program/system processes uses pim.vol?...
meschle,
I had thought of that and removed Calendar from my Today screen Items. I had no other plugins that would utilize PIM data. But thank you for the suggestion. BTW, I also want to thank you for some very good information I've learned from reading your posts. And I'm also running your Black Skins on my Today screen and dialer.
kinmont,
That was it, thank you! I had been using Resco. As soon as I switched to MS Explorer all was well again. And even though I'm backing up with Spb Backup I still like having the actual pim.vol file in a couple of places as backups.
Regards,
Tref
p.s. Thanks to you also Krinkiespijer for trying to help!
Try to DL a taskmanager program and cancel out anything that maybe running. OR try to clear out any currently running programs under start>setting>system>memory>running programs
Also, if you have a backup copy of the pim.vol file, rename the existing file to pimold.vol and copy the one you want into the "my device" directory
I try to keep an updated copy of the pim.vol file on my storage card.
Anytime before upgrading my phone, I copy the pim.vol file over to the storage card, upgrade the phone, rename the new file to pimold.vol and copy the one from the storage card back into the default directory.
Hope this helps.
It was Resco's refusal to copy the file that was the problem. Nothing was open or using it. MS File Explorer copied it fine. And yes, keeping a copy on the storage card is excellent advice. So is keeping a copy of the corresponding .pst file on the PC somewhere safe.
Cheers
i was deleting some apps and went to delete mini opera and somewhere along the lines my normall browser doesnt load, can i get it back without losing everything off my phone is there a .cab file please help.
Mmmm....
Hi. If Opera was pre-installed on your device (ie. in the ROM), there will be a .cab file for it in the root of \windows directory. You may need a third-party browser to find it, I'm not sure if the built-in file explorer lets you see all the hidden and system files, but it will be there... just tap on it to re-install
can i just say Grahamkdt thank you so much for helping a noob on WM. much appreciated.

You can't copy directly from your PC to the windows folder of your phone. You need to copy it somewhere else on the phone and then use something like Total Commander or Resco Explorer, on the phone, to copy if to the windows folder.
Both TC and RE are easily found on either these forums, or by googling.
ah thats where I'm going wrong thanks i'll give that a go
The most weird thing i ever encountered today with my HTC Pro2.
I renamed the folder "Beauties" to "Beauties." with Resco File explorer 2008 (note there is a dot after Beauties).
The Original path is" Storage card/Pictures/Personal pictures/secret/Beauties".
After existing Resco Explorer,I went back to see the folder again, jesus christ, the folder has gone! just disappeared without a trace.
I tried all means, soft reset,Resco Explorer, show all the files and folders, Resco photo viewer, connected with PC etc etc,all of them cannot find this "Beauties." folder.
Inside this Beauties folder, there are many pictures that I collected over years,no no I dont want to lose them.
Is this bug?
Am I being cursed? (lots of porn pictures in this folder as well)
How to get my folder back??? please help, help, help!!!!!!!!!
If there is a way to get the folder back, maybe we will have a best way to enscrypt folders?
Why don't you sync with your computer and use the MS ActiveSync to explore your phone? It is much easier on the eyes to look for a file on your computer screen than on your phone.

thanks for suggestion,As I said,I tried all means, including your suggestion. Got nothing.
no idea what could have happened.
folders with a period show up fine on my tp2, both in explorer and commander, never used resco though.
ne how, before you do anything else, do the following
remove the sd card,
plug it into a pc,
run a data recovery program on it.
tried everything,no cure for it.
My conclusion is that after you add period(dot) at the end of the name of the folder, this folder is deleted forever.
A bloody lesson.
Bye bye pictures,bye bye ladies.
Hmm . Files may be gone..
but I'd try another file explorer app if I was you
Total Commander --> http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
You sure you renamed it xxxxx. and it took? Perhaps you did a typo (accidentally touch the touchscreen thereafter and it's called something else your not expecting?)
this just happened to me today using resco file explorer!!! dot on the end of a folder bam!!! all folder is gone!
bring it back
if you ever do this again press ctrl+z to get back the folder, it happened with me so being a photoshop freak instantly went for the keys and thankfully got the folder back with the old name, still cant understand what's happens when you put a dot (.) at the end of a folder name.
Ps. this will only work for a few mins after the rename before any other changes are made after which it is useless
