Phonepad - Not the T9 one... - P3600 General

Does anyone know if i can replace my dial pad that comes up when you hit the call button? The keys in the windows one are too small! I want something nice and big that's easy to use. ... maybe something that looks along the line of the iphone one. Reckon it must be a software update as opposed to skin!

Remapping D-Pad while on Phone screens

I've been searching for a while for a re-mapper/utility that will remap the d-pad to move around the numbers while on the Phone screen. Currently the D-pad does nothing while you're in the Phone dialing or call screen. It would make the Wiz into a great one-handed device if I can get the D-pad to move around the on-screen numbers pad. The center button can emulate pressing of the on-screen numbers. This way I can use one hand to enter the phone number and not having to use use my hands or the stylus while on-the-go.
I know I can slide out the keyboard but are you able to slide the KB out with 1 hand and use the number keys? I tried and it's VERY awkward and you'll have to remember to press the dot twice to enable the numbers. I'd rather not do that in a time of emergency.
Any one has tried to make this happen? Is there an app out there which will do this? This plus smartkeys/smallmenu will make the Wiz the ultimate one-handed device.
Anyone? am I the only one with a Wiz wishing for this function? I guess people like touching the screen with their hands more than I thought...
I would really be interested in something that could achieve this. I have my K-JAM in a PDAir case and being able to simply dial numbers with the keypad would be great. Rather than scroll through the contact list or opening the cover to access the keypad.
On Himalaya the D-pad had function in the dialer to get to call history and speed dial. That would help too.

I want that too!! Like was in my Magician...
hi all,
A cool Japanese Freeware called FakeCursor does this. It doesn't tab between fields, but emulates a Dpad controlled 'mouse'.
There is a program called AEKmap that allows you to remap the keyboard.
I have attached several layouts I made for the Phone and Calculator for use with AEKmap. (2 of the layouts work in AEKmap free mode, the other 6 require $20 activation to avoid NAG screen.)
Joeman
btw on my qtek9100 the keyboard is automatically in number mode while in the phone application. I don't need to push the blue dot twice.
I'd just as soon se a remapper that brought back the WM 2003SE phone functionality (right - Call Histtoey, left - Speed dial, etc.)
It's a shame M$ took that out in WM5

*Everyone else there*
"BRILLIANT!!!"
Did anyone create an aek file for mapping the alfa keys of the hardware k/b to the phonepad values.
ie: pressing a, b or c generates the code that is recognized by smartdialer (and interpreted as a, b or c respectively)
This way we can use the h/w keyboard letter-keys in the smartdialer!
This is especially handy when youre using the Wizard in your car in the landscape brodit holder (on-screen 'keys' are simply too small to be used safely)
it would be very cool.
wonder if Water can extend SmartyKeys for that - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060

keyboard (keycaps) program?

Could someone write (or has someone written) a program for the wizard that is like keycaps for the treo (http://www.geekandproud.net/software/keycaps650.php)
Simply, its a program that lets you hold down a key to type a CAP, or double tap a key to type an ALT character. It really makes typing faster, and actually possible to type one handed. Also, its adjustable so that it will sense a double tap, but not a double letter, or you can switch funcitons if you would rather have the double tap type the CAP.
Any interest? I love this program on my treo, and feel it would make the wizard that much more one-handed friendly. (I miss it!!)
That's not exactly what you are looking for but take a look at PQz : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33343
Yeah, not quite what I was looking for, but thank you for the heads-up.
Anyone else??
I don't recall from any of my SIP tests, but you could try asking PDAMill if they could add that functionality to TopKey; http://www.pdamill.com/prod_tk.shtml
any update on this situation.. the only thing i really miss about my treo650 is keycaps. =)
any luck with this? i have been searching for a frix for this since i got my tilt... someone on another board said there was something exactly like keycaps for tilt called mobiKB but i cant find it.
can anyone help?

Looking for Iphone key board !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am looking to see if there is a cab file that will put the iphone key board..
I all ready have the touch pal and dont really like it i want the one that one letter per key on screen..
anyone there have it????
I think the main problem is that the iphone screen is slightly bigger, so you're less likely to hit the wrong key.
You can get one using a pocketcm keyboard skin though (check their forums)

[Req/Idea/App/FingerKeyb Solution] Dpad rediculous problem

Ok, i was looking for a simple and function dpad application to install on my diamond 2.
i already looked in the blackstone thread for a solution, but it seems like only virtual d-pad is an option at the moment, which i find kinda lame because it uses gsensor. after searching all over the place for a solution, i figured out that someone had a pretty good idea adding a new skin on finger keyboard with only the last row of the keys, but it didn't work for version 2.1 so ...
i tried to create a new skin for finger keyboard 2.1, i added only the last row, and it kinda worked, the problem is that it is not functional, since i need to change the language button to get to that skin. the other problem is that finger keyboard has a global parameter to all skins for the height of its panel. (335 i think). i changed that to something smaller, it worked for the dpad skin but it [email protected] up the rest of the skins (english, greek, etc), so i have given up with that for a lot of other reasons too.
after that i tried to create a custom application using vb.net in order to create a dpad app, but that failed too because compact framework sucks when it comes to things like that.
what i suggest is this as a perfect dpad solution (at least for me). the guy who created finger keyboard (sorry for not knowing u ) can create a special skin like the picture below but in a seperate program, so we can assign it to a button, and not destroy our software keyboard at the same time.
so if i need to open finger keyboard, i will open it normally as i am doing right now, but if i want to use the dpad keyboard i will call the seperated exe file by holding my call button. this will display the following keyboard like the image below, and that will be the end of the dpad problem.
i propably got a little crazy in that text sorry for that, but i am furious that vb.net couldn't create something simple like that. (i even googled it)

Just me or is the keyboard too small ?

Hi Guys,
Got myself a magic a few days ago, love it to bits but really struggling with the OSK.. the keys are just too small to type quickly/easily.
Is it just me and my big hands ? lol
Are there any alternatives for OSK out there ? (maybe like the phonepad style that comes in HTC EZInput for WinMo?)
Not sure how the keyboard could be much bigger than it already is. The screen is 3.2 inches across (diagonal) and that's all you have to work with. All that can be done is to make the buttons on the bottom row bigger (wider) by omitting the Shift and the Del button, but that would make the qwerty layout kinda funky.
Turn it on its side (landscape mode) -- the keyboard will be bigger that way than in portrait mode.
You can install the app "big keys" in the market and see how you like that. Or you can install the htc keyboard found in the Dream forums. HTC_Chime.apk is what you are looking for.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll have a play with the HTC keyboard and see what it's like.
Does the Magic have the option of the T9 Dialpad keyboard? Or is it just a plain full QWERTY keyboard that auto-corrects?
I haven't seen a T9 option, but it's easy to turn the auto-correcting off, although it will still offer you suggestions, but won't mess with what you're writing.
...double post...
That reminds me, I must add "org" and "uk" to my dictionary so I don't keep entering my email address as [email protected]e
I do not know what video i was watching, but I saw that there was a dialer keyboard available on the HTC magic. Now, I do not know if it was a rooted phone (which it probably was) or if it was an application that was added to the phone. If I am correct, they were showing haykuro's work and it showed in the text input a dialer keyboard. If this is true, would one have to root their G2 phone for it to work? The thought of possibly bricking the phone, sort of...well...makes me feel uneasy lol.
