Mini SD cards - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Has anyone tried to use one of these in an Exec using an adapter?

Me, 2gb, runs well. It´s have to be the same as an sd

Universal and SD / mini SD

Hi
does the universal use SD or mini SD cards?
can i use my old SD card in it?
what the difference? are they compatible?
universal accepts SD as standard. My old 2gb sandisk SD works perfectly.
you can use mini-SD if you use the adaptor that is supplied with most. I have a 1gb mini-SD for my K-Jam and that works perfectly with the JasJar when the adaptor is used
Great !!
I just read a review that clamed that i could only use mini sd card, was affraid that old 1 gb. card would not fit in it.
just to be sure, when using SD card the card actuallly fits in the device, not like it is only half way in or anything?
stil waiting for my universal to arrive shortly after 7th of november where it is released here in denmark.
I assure you the full size SD card fits fully into into the device so no worries there!

Mini SD Card with Adaptor in Jam

Hi...I'm one of the ones that has suffered from 2gb cards not working in my Tmobile MDA Compact.
I'm likely to upgrade in the next 6 months to the Wizard and was going to buy a 1gb mini sd with adaptor.
Has anyone used these with the magician, and if so, do they all work or do I have to stick with sandisk ultra II's?
Yes, I have a 256mb mini sd card in my magician (with adapter) the phone doesn't see it any different.
Thanks Furby....anyone else had any problems...anyone used a 1gb mini sd in particular, and if so, which brand?
I am using a Sandisc 1 gb minisd on my magician, and it all works fine! Hopefully the 2gb minisd work also (heard theye where hispeed ones )
I'm using a generic 512MB card I bought originally for my C500.
min sd card
I am using a mini sd 1gb scan disk in my m500 and mda vario. No issues so far.
T-Mobile supplies a 256MB Mini-SD with their branded version of the HTC Magician, called the MDA Compact....
It works perfectly, although i find it strange they provided a Mini-SD rather then cheaper SD's.
Can't be T-mobile UK supplying the SD cards, as they never supplied one with any of the 6 we bought here at work!
neither have they supplied any Mini-SD's for the Varios that have been bought!
Using Apacer SD 1gig, minor problem sometimes could not detect the card. need to reinsert once a while.

O2 mini support Mini SD?

can o2 mini support 1gb mini sd + adapter?
Well i have a 2GB miniSD from mobymemory and it works fine on my magician.
I just got a 2G A-Data mini SD from neweggs.com and it works too
i'm using a 1gb transcend 80x mini sd with adaptor on my magician. no problem encounter

8 GB on Universal

There are now SDHC cards of 8 GB.
Universal does not support SDHC cards.
BUT... there are many adapters that transform SDHC card into a SD card.
Those are cards of SD size. You insert SDHC cards into them.
Did someone try to use 8 GB sdhc cards on Universal with such an adapter?

I read somewhere in the Qtek Manual that the MAXIMUM Storage Card size the Universal will support is 6GB. I am unsure what will happen if you squeeze an 8GB card into it. Maybe it would:
1. Not detect any card at all
or
2. Will only indicate a 6GB card, despite the fact that you plugged an 8GB one
Whatever the case, I am pretty sure that there is an OS workaround to this issue (if it really is an issue). Maybe WM6 has already addressed this limitation, you never know. Maybe all that you need to do is format the Storage Card to a FAT32 media format, instead of the default FAT16 most cards come in.
Given that SDHC cards are the same size as SD cards, how exactly would it fit into an adapter, and then into the uni?!?!?
There are mini SDHC cards which fit the 2.0 standard but with such adapter I think you'll just get a normal SDHC card..

Yes I am interested in this as well, how can a card that is the same size as the convertor card fit!!!
I have a 4 GB SDHC card (DANE-ELEC) that I bought from Expansys and it works in nothing, no computers, cameras PDA or anything......... What are they supposed to work in?
And if there is and adapter that works please provide a link!!!!

This is always the problem with new technologies in which the Buyer Beware principle applies. The SDHC cards are out there, but the readers for those cards are not yet as pervasive and mainstream as the previous generation ones.
This is a critical flaw in the SDHC technological evolution. They basically produced a half-solution (for me its a half-assed solution) which should have never been implemented. Here is the half-assed solution:
- SDHC readers are backwards compatible and can read traditional SD as well as SDHC cards.
- SDHC cards ARE NOT backwards compatibe with traditional SD readers and will only wrk with SDHC readers.
It is the above problem that has got consumers at large, you included, absolutely furious for not making things clearer. So - if you are an SDHC card holder, and are desperate to use it, well .... there is no choice for you to wait for the SDHC readers to be present in the devices you wish to use SDHC cards in.

How support for Universal ?
Guys, received a review sample of a Transcend 8GB SDHC card today and it doesn't work. The Universal just won't detect a Storage Card.
The same goes for ALL other Windows Mobile devices with SD slot at this moment.
Even readers must be special SDHC ones. I have one of those and the PC can work with the card.
This is not going to help, but I have a Transcend 4GB SDHC card, and it's hopeless too, doesn't work in the Universal.

For that you'll need Transcend's NORMAL 4GB SD card. They have a regular one and a 150x (access speed) one.
I have the latter and it works great for almost a year now.
great~~~~ i like this~
RE
Yes, TRANSCEND 4GB SD card 150x works great on my set too
Pretec 133x Cheetah 4 GB card works on my Universal, too:
http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Pretec-SHM04G
I was using it in my MDA Compact (HTC Magician) and it was working ok, too. I had to use cNET Flash format to access 4GB, though.
It would be cool if anyone could come up with a solution that would enable the Universal to read SDHC cards. I'm sure a new driver would solve this as the hardware is exactly the same.
Michal
what if you use a micro to SD adaptor with an 8 gig micro SD??
anyone ever try this?
my buddies 2 gig works in the adaptor.

Must reiterate this point... I have one too, and it works great, no problems at all, and fast!
Hopefully this page will answer these neverending SDHC questions... "the SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing[9]). 4GB SDHC cards can only work with SDHC compatible host devices."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card (Scroll down to SDHC).
As far as I can tell, SDHC requires different HARDWARE to run, think it's down to the motherboard level and maybe even the slot itself.
yeah, interestingly my buddies 2 gig micro sd card is sdhc.
and it worked.. i don't actually know if there are 8 gig micro sd.. and MAN those cards are small!

It's San Disk

4GB SD card in XDA exec

Hi there. Bought 4GB Kingston Elite Pro SD card. Formatted FAT32, and 3.0GB of files on it. XDA exec will neither read, nor format it. (NB, works perfectly with identical card, but in 2GB capacity. Card is standard SD, not SDHC.
Any thoughts
Thanks
I have a 4gb card aswell for my spv 5000 and it won't read it. it only sees 1.71gb of it but won't format it
I recall that this has been dealt with on the Uni-Accessories area. Have a search there. 4Gb cards definitely work. Maybe it has to be FAT not FAT32?
Also wondering if you flashed with the SD card inserted? I think this will consider the SD card as part of the ROM and basically uses some of the card (although what for I don't know).
Mine is FAT32 (4GB Transcend 150x) works fine.
Have you tried the card in a card reader? What are the results there?

No, haven't flashed ROM for many months.
Card shows up fine when inserted into the reader slot on my Dell Inspiron 9400. I can open files on it, and copy files to it, but when put in XDA EXEC, always get 'Would you like to format this disc to make it readable?', and if you click yes, the XDA EXEC freezes.
Hello All
I too hav a Orange SPV m5000 and im using a PQI 4GB Sd card.
Its working fie here.
Formated: FAT32
I guess its a kompatibility thing?
@kennethsross... have you ever been able to read the card from the phone?
I know there are lots of problems with imitation cards on the market that aren't quite as reliable and fast as they're supposed to be. It's worth buying one of the more expensive ones just to avoid this problem (not saying this is the problem, just bit of info).
It does seem strange that it reads fine out of the unit though... maybe like SPVlover says, it could simply be a little compatibility issue (which would be annoying as hell!).
Just wondering what your OS version is? Maybe it's a slightly corrupt install? That's clutching at straws I know...
Might be worth checking the following settings in your registry...
hklm\drivers\sdcard\clientdrivers\class\mmc_class
hklm\drivers\sdcard\clientdrivers\class\SDMemory_c lass
The value in each should be set at 64 as standard unless you've tweaked it. Just wondering if those values are present at all? If not, it sounds like a corrupt driver install.

Looking more and more like this is a counterfeit card. Wondering if it is an SD-HC after all - Kingston claim they do not make 4GB standard SD cards.
I guess that would explain why my laptop can read it (SD-HC capable), but the XDA-EXEC can't.
Thanks again for all your advice on this. Maybe shouldn't have bought on eBay!!!
