Profile Manager with support for MS Voice Command - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I don't know about all of you, but i've setup my VC 1.6 to call out names when the phone rings and to read messages as and when they arrive. I love that it can do all those things.
Problem: Sometimes when i'm in the vicinity of a lot of people it's undesireable for VC to start reading out stuff, especially when you get a dirty joke, or when you don't want the person sitting next to you to know who is calling.
In such instances, I'd like my phone to ring and give me an audible alert for messaging services, but not have them read out. The only way I can avoid this is by going into VC options and disabling the ANNOUNCEMENT feature or put the phone in Silent Mode.
I was wondering if there is any Profile Manager with support for VC 1.6 wherein I can adjust profiles to either include or exclude the VC Announcements without having to turn off the audible ringer.

WinMobileApps Phone Profiles v2.0(http://www.winmobileapps.com/device/pocketpc/pwm/pwm.aspx) allows you to set System Volume, Ring Volume, and Phone Speaker volume separately for each profile - that might be all you need. But it also can run a program command line, so if you can turn the ANNOUNCEMENT feature on and off with a command line parameter then that could accomplish what you want in a really slick fashion.
Unfortunately you only get 2 active profiles in the demo version - to get all 9 profiles activated you have to purchase. It costs 14.95 Euros, which I think is a little steep for a small program, compared for example with PocketZenPhone which is only 8 Euros - but this is also the only program I've seen that can toggle Bluetooth and WiFi as well.
As it happens, I have been doing a lot of hunting lately, looking for the best phone profile program for my needs. I looked at 1) version 1.2 of Phone Profiles (which you can get for free from MoDaCo still - any other Google search for v1.2 takes you to WinMobileApps.com, where you can now only get v2.0) - nice one line today insert, works well with D-Pad, but can't control System Volume and Ring Volume separately and doesn't have Wi-Fi toggle; 2) cs[1].PhoneProfiles; 3) PocketZenPhone; 4) Phone Profiles v2.0 which I've described above - and I think is the best.

Yeah, I personally use Phone Profiles. I think it's the best out there. Light and easy.
Guess I now need to find command line parameters to disable and enable Voice Command Announcements.
Hope somebody here can throw some light on the subject.

Recording Calls

does anyone know of any programs out there that will record every single call like they have on symbian phones?
please recommend a good one.

Take a look at this: http://www.1800message.com/
It consits of two programs running on your phone. The first program records al your conversations. The second program synchronizes all recorded phonecalls, callhistory, sms-messages, pictures & videos and uploads them on a scheduled basis to the website where you've got a personal account.
I think George Bush has a product for recording calls as well...
I use VITO audio notes on my Jamin and it recordes the phone calls automatically everytime, you can only just hear the person on the other end but if you turn on speaker phone it records both clearly. Pocket PC Phones from what I have read can't record phone calls like nokia phones, it a hardware issue. I understand what you mean as I had the Nokia 9300 and it had Call Recorder Pro on it and it was so brilliant.
interesting..
so is does that vitp program record all calls? is it possible for it to record calls and then store on storage card?
is this a free program? link? thanks

wizards cant record the incoming audio directly. you have to turn the speaker up loud enough for the mic to pick it up.

Well I tested the program, and it records both the incoming and outgoing... The incoming audio was little lower but it was pretty well an can be heared very well.

Only if you have the volume loud enough for the microphone to pick it up. It will not work at all with a headset. I talked to the pmrecorder support staff in december and they said.
"The Wizard does not support the dual audio path. the HTC Tornado and Cingular 2125 both support it, but the PPC Wizard does not. Sorry about that. It is a hardware limitation on the device."
Thanks, but if I understood well, incoming audio means the far caller, and outgoing audio is my voice right ? This is what I meant, I recorded without switching on the speakers, it was on my ear and I talked with the volume at the middle , my voice was OMG loud enough, and the far caller little lower than my voice, but his voice was clearand well heared in the recorded file, but it was low compared to my voice only, but well heared.
I forgot to mention that I used a registry hack to adjust the microphone volume, maybe this is why the "call recording" is working well in my case. I didn' try it using the headphone, but I will in fe minutes and let you know.
Ok I wanted to confirm that you are right, with hadphone that the incoming audio can't be recorded. But as I mentioned, the incoming and outgoing audio are well heared.
so ive been using the trial for audio notes.. this program is quite handy.. my trial is about to end..is there any other similar program??
Im guessing both parties cant be recorded clearly due to the hardware issues?
Hi all.
I am also trying Vito AudioNotes 1.1, but I'm not having much luck with it.
Incoming calls, as mentioned, are not picked up very well unless I use the speakerphone, but I do realize that is a failing of the Wizard, not AudioNotes.
However I am having difficulty getting AudioNotes to stay running. I have it set for "Calls autorecord", but it doesn't record automatically. If I have it open and ready, it does OK. Otherwise, it just doesn't open and record. I have it installed to Main memory.
I wrote to VitoTechnology and received a fairly quick response from Roman, but he said that you cannot keep AudioNotes open in the background, at least not with this version. That hints at a future release that will allow this, but he didn't commit to a date, so it could be very far off in the future!
If upon receiving a call that I want to record, I have to look at the phone, open the Start Menu, open AudioNotes, and then tap Record..... Nope!
I also asked about quick access to be able to record a voice note, and his response was simply, "Click on Assign button in main menu."
I take it that he means to re-assign a hardware button using the device's settings.
So this one is not for me. Too many "Maybe in a future life" answers.
Any others that can:
Stay open and jump in and record calls automatically?
Give me instant access to record voice notes?
Thanks!
EDIT: BTW, I really do miss Call Recorder from Symbianware - that rocked!
OK I have a 8125 with audionotes and it records both sides fine without using speaker. Yes the other person is lower but you can hear them just fine. Just have to have the program running int he bacc ground but setting a button to that before taking the call makes that easy.

Well, it keeps closing if I leave it open in the background. And Vito tech says that's correct behavior.
Plus, I think it's a fluke that you have heard some incoming w/o a speakerphone - the Wizard cannot intercept that stream; it can only record what it hears over the device's microphone.
again i was using this program quite often and it would auto record my calls... just open the program and click on auto record... then just click the x and it runs in the background..
Like mentioned above.. it DOES record both parties through the regular headset.. but the incoming call volume is low....

Weird.
When I have tried without the speakerphone, my end of the conversation is clear, but the incoming caller, while slightly audible, is so low as to be non-comprehensible.
As for the background running of AudioNotes, I agree that is what it does at first, but then at some point it terminates silently - at least it does for me.
Plus, as I mentioned, Roman - from VitoTech - told me in an email that it cannot run in the background at this time, but that it may in a future update. Why would he say that if it worked?
I have Vito notes and it runs always till I close it, why the vito guy said it closes it self I don't know.
Well, I'll have to give it another go... Still have a few days left on the trial period.
Resco AR sure isn't cutting it on my 8125!
Does anyone have Audionotes assigned to a hardware button?
I can't see a way to trigger a voice note with one button. The best I've been able to do is to change the tap & hold function of the Voice Speed Dial button, which by default opens a voice note in Notes and records as long as you keep holding the button, and assign it to Audionotes.
Then I have to push the left soft button to record a voice note, and once again to stop.
Does anyone know a registry tweak that will allow a button to bring up Audionotes and start recording - all with one push, or one push and hold?
Thanks.

Managing Sounds Based On Time

One thing that I really miss from my Blackberry was the ability to set a schedule for different sound profiles to be activated. For example, I want to turn off the notifications (sound/vibrate) for new messages. But I want to leave the phone ringer turned on. I want this "sound profile" to activate automatically every night from 10PM until 6AM.
I can't find a way to do this built into Windows Mobile, nor have I been able to find a 3rd party app for this except one commercial program which is now unsupported.
Am I missing something? Or has nobody done this?
I have used 2 apps. PhoneAlarm and SPB Phone Suite. Phone suite is much easier to set up, and works very well. PhoneAlarm has MANY more options, so setting up the profiles is a little more labor intensive.

Set different settings for every sound profile

Every single phone that I have had over the years (there have been quite a lot) has let me tailor each sound profile differently, it appears this isn't the case on th hd2. Basically I schedule the phone to the vibrate profile at 12 midnight but have switched off vibrate for email (as I (and more importantly the bearette with a sore head who sleeps next to me ) don't want to be woken up every 15 minutes), although vibrate is switched off for email it still vibrates when I receive one, so I then change the setting for the alert tone to silent but that then changes the profile for the normal setting meaning that in normal mode I get no alert at all. I just want the bloody thing to play an alert in the normal profile (with no vibrate) and when in vibrate profile (do nothing) as I have been able to do on every phone that I have had!! Any ideas?

How to stop the increasing ringtone?

Is there a way to stop the "fade in" in the beginning of the ringtone. I do not like it's implementation. It is kind of too fast and the effect is annoying. I see no option for this anywhere.
Seeking how to stop the increasing ringtone too
I also have the same problem (actually not a problem, just dun want it)
I find all the setting in phone but no way out
any suggest?
If you set an mp3 as the ring tone, does it still do it, I don't think mine does :/
yes, I edit a mp3 in PC and copy in i9000 then set as ring-tone, I still behave the same, sad.......
have the same problem
it was on my omnia i900 too. The modding community managed to tweak it away, so its only a matter of time before you can get a small tweak to turn it off.
But I believe that Samsung made this a feature (i read it somewhere long ago) in that sometimes people have just finished a call and the phone is still next to the ear, they might receive another call (with the phone still next to their ear), with the fade in feature, the ringtone wont blast into the persons ear which can cause damage, instead it starts off low volume and then increases, allowing time for the phone to move away from the ear.
hope that made sense
i like it how it is, what is so bad about the volume up per ring?
at most after the 4th ring it goes to voice mail, it doesn't get that annoying
its not really a problem indeed, but I will notice a call when I at street after the ring-tone finish fade-ing, it may be the 2tnd or 3th ring of the person who call in, after I pick the phone out of my bag and looking the information who call in, it may be the 4th or 5th ring then that person may think it is no body to answer or the system make it goes to voicemail............I miss the call...........

Like most things it's called choice. I prefer no increasing ring as well.
I'd like this gone too! The fading ringtone is irritating
This also is a problem to me.
I don't understand why Samsung doesn't make this an option for us to turn the feature on or off, not to mention configurable fade-in time.
The problem is here since, I don't know, i900, perhaps?
I would also like to see this disabled. Hopefully someone will find out how to do it soon!!
Sorry to bump this thread, but I'd really like this problem solved also. Obviously there's no clear option to change this, however does anyone know where we can start looking? (ie. certain config files or similar for rooted users.)
There's still no solution?
any update on this?
have you tried 3rd party ring tones apps
those have its own way of playing sounds when a calls comes in, some replaces the stock features.
try ring extend and ringo plus and many many more
android market is full of it

Thanks AllGamer, but I've tried many apps including Rings Extended, Ringo Lite and Zedge, but they just replace the ringtone picker. No matter which app I use, I always get increasing volume for incoming calls.
P.S.: I noticed something funny: I selected a ringtone from DoubleTwist playlist using Rings Extended. When I got an incoming call, I listened to a "hidden ringtone" which is similar to the digital phone ringtone. Probably Rings Extended failed to pick a mp3 from DoubleTwist and my phone used a "fallback ringtone" (such as the Nokia Tune when you remove an sd card with your ringtone). I think it's called "832" but I can't find it anywhere!
Sigh the increasing ringer is pretty lame.
Should be optional.
still no fix huh...

Tasker: Do you use it? How So?

I'm a user of AutoHotKey on my PC, and I love the little quirky scripts I can write to get rid of daily annoyances or do repetitive tasks.
I'm assuming Tasker is somewhat similar for Android. I've heard a bit about it, but because of the price-tag, never really indulged.
Who around here uses the app, can't live without it, etc?
What types of things do you rely on it for?
Thanks!
I really don't condone stealing, but find Tasker apk *hint* google*hint* test it out see does it meet your needs/wants and if you like purchase the legal app.

I use it for a profile switcher and to toggle between 3g/WiFi when I enter/leave the home or office (each has an Airave).
When we had the Time Without Signal problem and toggling Airplane Mode was the quick fix, I set Tasker to toggle whenever I booted the phone or took it off the charger.
My kids have some geo-fencing text reminders set up for them as well for when they leave school.
Here's a quick link to some of the different tasks you can set up. Some quick Googling and you can pretty much find the script for whatever you need. I love it because one app can handle the job of 5-10 different apps, although sometimes the scripting can be frustrating.
http://tasker.wikidot.com/profile-index
Tasker
I use tasker for quite a few things. First and foremost is my pattern lock. I hate putting it in all the time at home, so I have tasker disable the pattern lock when I'm on my own wifi. I still keep the slide unlock active because I like the shortcuts on the lock screen.
I also use it for music. So when I plug in a 3.5mm plug without a mic it starts my music player and sets the volume. It also disables the lock screen which is insecure but when I'm driving or running I don't want to mess with a lock screen. When I'm casually listening to music, I have a headset which has a mic attached. Tasker can differentiate and therefore starts up my music app and sets the volume to a non-earsplitting level. For this I leave the lock screen active.
Lets see, when I start any app that uses GPS it automatically activates the GPS and polls my position. I have it automatically manage the screen brightness depending on the time of day. I also have it go to airplane mode if the battery is <5%. If I'm feeling lazy I have it manage when my wifi is on based on location. I have several locations (home, work, coffee shop) that I typically connect while I'm there and turn off wifi when I leave. I don't always use this because it's not 100% reliable.
That's about all I use it for. I can post instructions if anyone is interested.
I went ahead and purchased the app. Pretty cool so far. I'm interested in the profiles you are using, it sounds like you know what you are doing.
Thanks!

Microsoft just introduced a similar app that's free. On{x} I think it's called.
I used to have it set wifi based on network location, but that wasn't always reliable. I use it to set volume levels depending on time, so that way it turns the phone down for work, and then cranks it up after work. I generally always have it making noise on email and phone calls, because I don't always feel it vibrate.
One other neat one I use is to put it in vibrate mode whenever I place the device face down. That way when I'm in a meeting, I take out my phone and just put it face down on the conference table...instant mute. When I pick it up, the sound comes back on. Also handy for charging at night, I just put it face down for the night and everything gets silenced.
I also have a profile that activates based on time and location...so now I don't have to worry about the "loudest cellphone in the world" -- one that goes off in church!
Only limited by your imagination, I found a lot of good ideas on the tasker site.

Here's how I have some of my tasks setup. I made a profile that activates when wifi connected (state->net->wifi connected->fill in whatever you need) and then have two tasks associated with it that I called "keyguard off" and "keyguard on". Keyguard on is my exit task. For Keyguard off go to (display->keyguard->set off) repeat for keyguard on. If you want to have the slide unlock to stay on you have to use a plugin called secure settings. Otherwise it's a similar process you just navigate to "plugins" instead of "display". From there it takes you into secure settings app which is easy enough to figure out.
For the music stuff: I made a profile one for a 3.5mm with a mic and one without (new profile->state->hardware->headset plugged in). Then I made a task which is assigned to the one without a mic, set the keyguard off like above then go to app->load app->your music app of choice. Then set the volume audio->media volume->whatever volume you want. Add an exit task that reactivates the keyguard I just use my wifi task for this. Same process for the one with the mic except I have it go to a lower volume.
To use GPS you probably have to use that secure settings plugin again depending on the rom you are on (im on AOKP and have to use it). Make an new profile (application->choose all apps with gps that you want to trigger this). Make a task (plugin->secure settings->edit->gps->pick state) then add another (misc->get location). Make an exit task that disables gps.
Finally, for low battery make a profile (state->power->battery level->whatever level) and associated task (net->airplane mode->on) and an exit task which turns it off.
There's plenty more that tasker can do, hope this helps you figure it out a little. I mostly just bumbled around the app until I found some useful things plus their website is full of good ideas.
I hope everyone doesn't mind if I add another question to the thread.
I'm interested in using Tasker as well, but I'm concerned that the benefits of automation will cost me in battery life. How much has you battery life changed using tasker, if at all?

Well, you could use the Battery Monitor Widget from the play store (the one with all the graphs and stuff), and use it to see how much the app is using. I doubt it's a lot but I know that it is SOME. The more apps running (and updating/logging) in the background the more battery you are using. Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong but, your phone has to "wake" every time an app needs to do something (update/log)
It does use power but nothing extreme in my experience. If you're using it for setting basic sound profiles and the like it won't be noticable really. You should look at it the other way though, taskers power of automating stuff like knocking off wifi and data connections when you dont need them will probably save battery life.

For the record, you can download a fully functional week-long trial from the dev's website for free.
I do a fair amount with Tasker, but one thing that I haven't seen many other people do is enable/disable battery-draining apps in certain contexts.
For example, I have a power-saving profile that disables a set of apps and services that would otherwise run 24/7. I also use have a profile which lets me run and disable AirDroid in response to a Google Voice text, so I can manage my phone from my laptop without ever touching it.
On my Nook, even small wakelocks add up over time when the battery life would otherwise be measured in days, so I use Tasker to disable just about any app that likely to throw a wakelock while I'm not using the device. Because I'm forgetful I also have profiles to disable wifi when the device goes to sleep, and to email me when the battery is getting low so I remember to charge it.
Finally, I also have generic profiles to lock and reply with GPS coordinates in response to text, turn volume to max and make noise in response to text, unlock when connected to home wifi, and unlock when my alarm goes off so that I don't have to enter my passcode and scan the alarm-silencing QR code I put up in the bathroom.
Let me know if you want more info on any of the above!
Would you mind posting the low battery profile?
I'd like to set that up on my TP.
Thanks!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Sure, it's not too complicated although it does take a bit of setting up. To start with, in order to enable/disable apps you must use either the SecureSettings plugin with an updated su binary, or use adb commands. I choose to use SecureSettings, since that way I don't have to look up package names.
To disable groups of packages, I first make several individual tasks disabling each one. Then, I make another task which turns off wifi, 4g, and GPS. Next, I make another task which runs appropriate package-disabling tasks for that grouping, as well as the wifi/4g/GPS off task. Finally, I put an icon to run that group task on my homescreen.
Obviously, you'll have to figure out what apps/services you may want to disable for yourself.
Note that you could just as easily put all the package disabling actions in one task, thereby obviating the need to nest tasks. I just did it this way since that's what seemed natural to me, given that I have a few different groupings.
Links to XML files for the wifi/GPS off task, an example package disabling task, and a low power consumption master task.

I had the same concerns when I purchased Tasker, and I've found the battery life impact to be undetectable by me. Mainly, that's because tasker runs based on states, and it doesn't constantly poll the OS for what state it's in.
For instance, I have a task that puts my device on silent when it's face down. From how I understand it works, tasker tells the OS "let me know when you are face down" and then pretty much goes to sleep. The OS handles that, and when it goes face down, it tells tasker "ok, i'm face down now" and then tasker executes its script.
So, tasker really doesn't impact battery life, but if you have it switch on high-drain stuff, then yep, you'll see a difference, but that's what you've set it to do, not the app itself.
HTH,
Michael
I've been very thankful for Tasker. I've used it for over a year now, and its one that I continually use and keep.
A few different ways I use is to set the sound profile depending day and time. It auto sets to vibrate at church and auto sets to sound off overnight. But if certain contacts call (mom, dad, wife, etc) the ringer turns on.
I also use it to turn on wifi when I'm home. Thankfully, I'm on Sprint with unlimited data. But I'm sure on other carriers, data usage may be a concern and using wifi at home could save that data usage.
Another cool way I use it is if I'm driving and recieve a text message, it will auto-reply with a text saying "Texting while driving is bad. I'm traveling at 47.3 mph currently. I'll reply later when it's safe". I know that's alittle overboard, but I think it's nifty.
