dns settings - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

i am using open dns and i connect between
800 kbit/sec-980 kbit/sec dsl reports this is the 3g speed in ny
open dns settings
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
cingular is just a bit slower
does anyone have any faster dns settings they can share

I'm using those DNS settings and they're doing the job for me.

Media Net, Myy ISP, Wap and isp

Okay, I am trying to figure out what the best settings are to maximize internet speed.
I am in Washington DC on Cingular, with Summitters 2.26 and the 2.47 radio.
IN connections I have two options, MEdia Net and My ISP in the tasks tab.
In the advanced tab, under select networks it is set to have programs connecting to the internet use MEdia Net and programs connecting to a private network using My ISP.
WHen I go to manage existing connections under MEdianet it is using wap.cingular and I input the OpenDNS setting and verified that they work.
When I go to managing existing connections under my ISP it is using isp.cingular, again with the Open DNS settings.
From you guys experience is there a magic combo? Could I use any of the 4 potential combinations?
Thanks!

Here is what i found... MEdia net provides me better speeds w/out open dns, but uses cingular's proxy server. However certain programs like IM+ and other apps wont connect through the proxy(and neither does wifi)**(also note that if you actually use the media net home page for some cingular stuff then the opendns settings will not direct you to those pages).... Now My Isp may look like the same connection, but its not, it dont use the proxy settings... and is slower than **** without the opendns settings.. i ran speedtests in my 2.47.11 radio thread, you might want to check them out
Here is my final take.. if i can figure out how to get my other apps to run through the proxy i would switch to media net without open dns

Default Gateway

I am able to connect via Wifi and getting IP address but the default gateway is sometime set and sometime not. When it is not set i can not surf the internet. Is there a way to set the default gateway in HEMRES ?
Someone , please help
All I need to know is how to set the deafult gateway to 192.168.0.1 same as DHCP Server.
DHCP should give it all the settings
might be worth looking to why your DHCP server isnt giving out the correct settings, but any way
Settings > Connections > Network cards > Network Adapters
you will have a list of the Adapters
at a guess it would be the IEE 802.11b/g Compatable wifi
tap on that
and it should give you some options tick Use Specific IP Address, put in the details
please note this will set the details for all wireless connections, so if only use wireless at home, then it will be no problem, but say you use it at home, at work and out and about at Hotspots, you may need to go in and change it back to using DHCP for it to work

can you give some hints how to do that ?
I did what you said , in VxIPConfig it said DHCP Disabled, and got the deafult gateway as 192.168.0.1 . I couldn't surf the internet.
Please that from time to time I am able to surf the internet when everything is set to auto. When it happens I get the deafult gateway set (and not blank) and the DHCP is enbale

did you give it an ip addresss and subnet mask ?
eg for ip
192.168.0.10
subnet
255.255.255.0
is your DHCP server on a router or is it like a PC with WiFi running Internet connection sharing
I did what you say , this is what VxIPConfig said:
adapter address : 00-09-2d-b4-91-43
IP address : 169.254.210.158 (which is what i set)
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Deafult gateway : 192.168.0.1 (which is what i set)
DHCP server : 192.168.0.1
Primary WINS : empty
Secondary WINS : empty
Lease obtained : DHCP Disabled
Lease expaired : DHCP Disabled
still can not surf the internet , what is wrong.

where did you get 169.254.210.158 from?
try 192.168.0.100
as i dont think you will have anything on that ip
with a 192.168.0.1 gateway and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
your ip needs to be within 192.168.0.* range ( * = 1 to 255)
yeah a class c ip range is what one should use in ones internal lan
192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255

I see now, the ip 169.254.210.158 would be when the ppc couldn't get an IP from the DHCP Server
just a thought
Have you input in some dns servers, should be on the next tab
these dns servers will do
dns 1: 4.2.2.1
dns 2: 4.2.2.2
how did you setup internet connection sharing on you pc ?
via network setup wizard ?

I added the DNS adresses settings in the PPC , still can not surf the internet.

It is checked !! I remove the check in Allow other users to control or disable the shared Internet connection.
I've noticed that in success connection that allowing me to surf, the beacon icon in PPC is changing for 2 seconds to beacon without the circles and than return to its previous picture beacon with two circles. In a failed connection I always see the beacon with the two circles icon that never change.
Still no surfing is available. Any more ideas ?
SOLVED !!!
Thanks for the helpers. My problem is now solved. I've just read in D-Link site regarding configuring Static IP in here
After performing the recommended settings, everything is working always.
THIS THREAD CAN BE CLOSED
Glad its working
so did you need to setup a static ip for your pc, or did you use the guide and put the details in to your ppc ?
The static IP was set in the PC according to D-Link instructions . Hope this tread helped someone .

[Q] VPN DNS Resolution

L2TP VPN connects fine from Galaxy Tab 10.1 with built-in Settings>Wireless & networks>VPN Settings. I can RDP by IP and hit my router's config page in the browser by IP, however no DNS resolution is occurring. using adb, "getprop net.dns1" reports 192.168.1.1 which is correct (my router's ip) but no domain names are loading in browser. Same VPN connection on iPhone works across the board and resolves names. What's the deal with DNS and Android's VPN implementation? The only difference in settings is the iPhone's "Send All Traffic" checkbox.

[Q] Has Anyone Got a DNS Service Working Yet?

Hello,
I'm trying to set up USAccess on my Nexus Player. As there are no existing guides, I've just been using standard Android guides. So far, I am unable to connect to the internet after changing my DNS settings. I've been searching endlessly and have only found questions regarding this topic before the Nexus Player was released.
I
I tested on my NP both by changing the DNS settings on the device and at the router level and did not have any luck connecting to Netflix on either. With the DNS set on the device, the internet connection wouldn't work on any app but when I changed it on the router, apps worked (Play store for example) but Netflix wouldn't connect.
I wonder if it is similar to the Chromecast where the DNS settings are hardcoded and you need to set up some modifications on your router (or have root access to make the necessary changes).
My suggestion would be to open a ticket with USAccess and they may be able to assist/verify that everything is configured correctly.
Setting DNS on my router works for me for accessing Australian content from the states. So this seems to be a netflix specific thing.
Sent from my Nexus 5
I'm in Canada and Netflix usa works fine for me (go to settings in Netflix and under member if it says US then it should be working) I use unblockus I have my dns settings changed on the router. Now just need a way for the nexus player to load the usa play store, this has always been tricky on Android. Worst case I will sideload Hulu for the time being.
I'm also up in Canada, and I was able to use unotelly's DNS to access Netflix US. I did notice that after changing the DNS settings on the player itself, I couldn't connect to anything until I changed the language setting in the settings app to us English (instead of Canadian), and although everything is connecting now, I've lost the recommendations bar (it just says recommendations are not available right now)
So far USAccess.ca is not working here either. Going to need to do more digging and see what the device is actually trying to do!
I am also up in Canada and I use AdFreeTime DNS service, however I cannot get Netflix to work. When I change the DNS addresses on my router to AdFreeTime, Netflix throws an -100 connection error, but everything else connects fine. I am re-routing google's dns services 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to AdFreeTime DNS servers through iptables on my Asus router. Maybe that's an issue?
Can someone from Canada who has Netflix US working post exactly how they got Netflix to connect properly? Thank you.
I just got usaccess.ca working... It turns out I think my version of DD-WRT had some dnsmasq issues (even with strict-order enabled). I flashed a newer release of DD-WRT so i could get tcpdump working and when i finally went to capture the traffic, low and behold netflix was working with the US DNS servers set in dnsmasq. I could even watch US content
Now i just need to find that Hulu Plus .apk!!!

As a followup: I got Netflix US content working properly on the NP by setting my router to my US dsn services, but I had to disable routing the google dns servers to my AdFreeTime dns servers (which I was doing through an iptables script on my custom Asus AC68U router.) This kind of blows as routing google dns to US dns services such as AdFreeTime, Unblock US, etc was the only way to make the Chromecast work with US Netflix and other services from Canada.
There has to be a way to keep those pesky google dns services built in to Chromecast and the Nexus Player routed to unblocked US dns services without messing up Netflix on the NP.
Any ideas would be greatly welcomed.
The Nexus Player doesn't have hard coded DNS servers. I was able to change my WIFI connection from DNS to STATIC; enter in static, gateway, and DNS (USAccess) IPs and a day later, the settings took and my Netflix region change to US EN.

+1 for this problem, I get the error -100, using USAccess. Have tried setting a static profile with USAccess DNS and with the IP's on my router. Works fine on my Amazon Fire TV but not the Nexus Player.
I had the same problem with usaccess, so I used the trial of unotelly to compare. unotelly works perfectly including displaying the US play store. Could be worth the extra expense, i have 7 days left to decide .
So following this:

USAccess is still not working for you?
I'm using 107.20.195.51 not their new region switching DNS IP.

Everyone has a different home network setup. So, I'll try to help you out.
Go to:
Settings
Network
Wi-Fi Connected
Pick your current Wi-Fi connection
Status info
Write down the IP address
e.g 192.168.2.23
When you go back to your Advanced settings, use the following:
IP address = IP address you wrote down from above (e.g. 192.168.2.23)
Gateway = You will have to figure out. It is usually the first three sets of numbers from your IP address and .1
So, from my example, Gateway = 192.168.2.1
Network prefix length = 24
DNS 1 = Enter in your DNS IP
DNS 2 = Use your secondary DNS IP
I use USAccess so my numbers are
Primary DNS: 107.20.195.51 Secondary DNS: 107.20.190.171
Hit next and you should see settings saved message.

I have done this, tried three different wifi networks, both with and without USAccess. I'm starting to think there is something with Netflix that it just won't work in Sweden.
Hasn't anyone who previously had the -100 error been able to resolve it?
Does anyone know what the netflix app is trying to do when we get the -100 error? I would like to find this out so I can tell my ISP about it as they offer their own DNS redirection service so we can get access to things like netflix in the USA.
I have 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 redirected to a fake IP so that those addresses timeout at the router, but netflix will still not load unless I put unotelly's DNS directly on the NP. My roku on the other hand works without putting unotelly's DNS settings.
