MDA Vario II & 3G Connection

Hi guys
It's been a while since I posted to the forum and I apologise if this question has already been asked.
I have an MDA Vario II with a T Mobile web&walk 3G internet connection.
My question:
My notebook PC has wireless networking, is it possible for me to wirelessly connect my notebook to the internet using the 3G connection on my MDA Vario II?

you need to turn off the active sync on your laptop tho, well i had too!

Many of us have wnw pro and are allowed to stream and use voip and connect over modem etc.

Or Like me i have WnW Max 10gb a month and i can do with it whatever i want with no restrictions, btw i got a very good deal with flext 35 only 42.50 per month

I joined as a business user when I bought my MDAIII and when I upgraded to the MDA Vario 2 I managed to get the flext 20 package (£34 allowance for calls and texts) with unlimited usage and web n walk pro enabling me to use anything I want as much as I want for as long as I want and I pay £25.49 per month. I can use skype (although I rarely use the chat and never use it for actual calls as no one I know uses it anyway).
I found the rick was that they mucked things up for me so many times when I switched contracts that each time they gave me a discount. I dont think I am getting that good a deal now but at the time it wasnt bad.
I do use my MDA as a mode for my very small JVC laptop quite reguarly and its very good. I have only been unable to do it once and that was near wrexam

Um, isn't the answer to this that you can't do it using the Wifi, but you can using Bluetooth or USB.
With BT is was reasonably easy in WM5, in WM6 you need a laptop BT stack which implements BT PAN properly (mine doesn't) so I just wire them together.
USB is considerably faster - I get 850kbs in London.
As for it being against the T&Cs of basic WnW, a lot of people seem to get away with it once in a while, but hammering it with big downloads is bound to get you a slap.

Does your JVC connect to the modem in the MDAIII wirelessly?
Can you briefly explain what I need to achieve this?

If you have flashed a WM6 rom it's a doddle, you just run Intenet Sharing on the handset and tell it to use USB, hit connect and it disconnects Activesync automatically and sets up a network access point on the laptop. For a minute I thought I'd accidently picked up a mac, it "just works".
In WM5 it's a right old pain, you have to set up a dial-up account for the handset, tell it to dial something (?) and run the modem program on the handset. I'd upgrade if you haven't done so already, it's one of the big pluses of WM6.

No I keep a mini usb retractable cable with me for when I need it (doubles as charger in car or home etc). Wonderful as my laptop is it doesn't have bluetooth connectivity and its as easy to wire as it would be to get a bluetooth dongle. I just found the instructions here and it works fine.

Ugh...wi-fi connection issues with Wing driving me crazy.

I just moved into this new place, just got the Cox Cable internet installed yesterday, picked up a new "Belkin N Wireless Router" model # F5D8233-4. Works fine with the laptop- I've had it setup using unsecured, WEP, & WPA/WPA2 Personal. No problems on the laptop. Inexpensive Dell Inspiron with Vista Home Basic.
However, the Wing will not cooperate at all. It only wants to connect to unsecured networks. It will connect to mine and others it detects in the appt complex. But as soon as any type of security is enabled it just tries to connect for a few seconds, then the network becomes unavailable. I'm soo tired of clicking around in the Wing with this stylus, I'm about to throw it out the window.
I've set up a static IP on the laptop so to better work with port forwarding & Azureus. Will this have an effect on what I'm trying to do? I can't see how it would, but I'm no expert.....
So here's what I've done. In the routers setup page, I've selected 64bit wep, typed in a passkey and hit generate. Wrote down the 4 keys it generated, saved the changes and exited the router setup. I think where I'm messing up is what I should be doing next with the Wing. Can anyone walk me through this?
About the only thing of note that I've done to the Wing as far as tweaking is concerned is to install Home Screen/Battery Status, overclocked to 260, and tweaked the registry to allow ring tones from the sd card.

maybe your wing uses the same ports as the ones you've forwarded to connect to your router. You should always make it really obscure (something like 65530-65534) to make sure that there are no conflicts between other apps and any port related protections your ISP may have implemented.
You are setting up your wing with the key, right? It might just be that the wing is incompatible with 64bit wep.

Let me clarify- the port forwarding was set up for the Azureus bit torrent client. Way obscure ports-in the 49,xxx-50,xxx range.
Yeah, setting up the wing with the key. The only choices are 64 and 128bit wep. And the WPA/PSK. Neither work. When the little window pops up asking for the net work key, I enter one of the ones I wrote down. The thing doesn't seem to be compatible with any type of security. Which kinda sucks....To use the wi-fi at home, I have to leave my router open to "signal thieves".

I have my linksys wrt54g set to 64 bit 10 hex security and it works just fine. Maybe your problem has something to do with the wireless n part of your router? The wing is not compatible with draft-n. Does your router also broadcast with wireless-g or b?

It does...I just switched it over. Waiting for the Wing to reboot then I'll try again. Good thinking.

Ok, that didn't work either. The selections in the router are
1- Off
2- 802.11g,
3- 802.11g, 802.11b, 802.11n
4- 802.11n
It was on #3, I changed to #2 and no luck. Grrr...

Have a look on your wireless lan power settings, my Wing also had huge wifi problems all fixed when I changed the power to better performance.

I think I found a thread that mentioned that while researching this problem. Anyways, I've already made that change.

Which network adapter is the wi-fi one? Is it this- "SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter"?

I've had the exact same issue with my MDA and originally with my Wing. It works fine now, I'm not sure why.

I just flashed to Open Touch 6.5. Still a no-go.

ok am new with this i got the tmobile wing and with the wifi i can use the internet right so that means that if i don't have a data plan i can still use the internet without getting charge for data can someone explained to me the wifi issued thanks i don't want to use the internet and later get a big bill cause i don't have data plan on my phone thanks...
so what's the wifi on the wing for???

The wifi is just like a laptop's wifi, it connects to a wireless router and since it's not going through the cell phone towers, it will not charge you.

OMG....I'm getting soooooooooooooo tired of dickin around with this thing. Now it won't connect to any network, secured or not.
I tried importing a certificate from IE on my laptop, because I got an error message on the wing saying the net work needed a personal certificate to identify me. Didn't work.
I tried a hard rest. Didn't work.
I've tried about 56,345 soft resets. Didn't work.
If there were any trees in the state of Kansas, I'd go bang my head on one of them. :

It works fine with my current ROM. (JustMe by... Me. lol)

I'm pretty sure it's not a ROM issue...I just flashed this thing late last night. It started not connecting to anything late afternoon yesterday, while the stock T-Mobile ROM was installed.

The stock ROM never worked properly for me...
Try another ROM.

why is it when im on wifi i cant connect to the market browser and all data usage app??? n when i am over edge everything works

I think the market can only be accessed through tmobiles network... I may be wrong but that is what it seems.

I connect to the market all the time via WiFi (non-TMo WiFi). There has to be some other reason. (Could be the market is down, or something like that also...)

Working good for me

market with wifi working for me, BUT this happend with yahoo mail account. from tmobil network yahoo work and when i am connected to wifi the yahoo mail give me connection error.

an easy fix is to restart your router and that will fix it, dont ask me why but it works

Can I use Wifi to browse on the internet

so going to alaska to work for 3 months with my dad and brother. Brother says he cannot use his HTC HD2 up there with T-mobiles network so they will allow us to get unlock codes for them and then we will use AT&T's Unlimited talk and text but we would like to see if there is a way to use the Wifi on our phones to surf the web on either browsers. We would be doing small things like checking our email and bank accounts.
Any help would be appricatied

Absolutely, as long as you're within range of a wifi network that you have access to (i.e. one at your home/office or a public access point like starbucks, stc). You don't have to have a data plan to use the wifi, if that's what you're wondering

Another thing to remember if you have a nationwide plan with TMO using other towers is usually not a problem.
At home I use an AT&T tower about 30% of the time, I live in the boonies , so a nationwide plan has no roaming charges no matter who's tower you are using ...

haha I wish that it would even get a bit of service. Brother is already there and he says he can't even make a call without losing service. T-Mobile said they will suspend service for 3 months or how ever long it takes and will add it to our 2 year contract.
And so he trys using Wifi which the building he stays in has and when he goes into opera or internet explorer he gets an error, trying to find the error from him and will post. Does anybody know if their is settings that need to be changed. He is checking this by turning off the phone radio and only connecting to wifi. He does not want to be charged extra by AT&T, thanks for your help.
we do have custom roms on our HD2's. FYI

Sounds like the phone is not getting everything it needs from the access point, some type of misconfiguration, needs to make sure he is getting and IP address , gateway and DNS servers .... should browse over wifi without using the phone radio with no problem, do it all the time at home ...
But if you are just going to be web browsing, turning off the phone radio does save some battery ...

So I basically found out that the network adapters were set to manual config and I should set them to automatic. Which I did and was able to connect to recieve my mail and go on the web via wifi with radio turned off but this is at my home which is my belkin.
I then tried calling him and having him set it up (he's not so tech savy) and he was connected to linksys and it still gave him the errors, He is going to the office of the company he works for to see if he can get the password for the other wifi network that is on the list. He sees people on their laptops browsing internet. So maybe i'll just buy a little Netbook for going up there.

WiFi problem, dissconects all the time...

Bought a Tattoo for my kid and now we got a huge bill because the wifi seems to dissconects itself all the time and she is not that good checking the wifi state.
Is this a known problem or what can i do about it?
Using a Netgear N router and WEP (must use WEP because of my stupid XBox that can't handle any other security).
Please let me know how to fix this so she can use the phone!

I'm using wifi fixer, which running as a service and reconnect everytime the connection drops. It's not a solution, but make things better.

I've struggled with this phone a couple of hours now but i can't get the wifi to work now.
I press connect to my network, i have entered the wep password but a couple of secs later it says disconnected...
What can i do about this?

I have the same problem - Is it best to configure the Wi Fi settings like IP address etc ? And if so whats the best settings for it?

I've managed to get it to connect now, removed an app that kept track of wifi traffic. But it seems to me that Tattoo does not use wifi when i use YouTube for example. Checked my providers homepage for traffic that we pay for and they had traffic for today. And the phone has not been used all day until my test this evening.
Is there a way to tell the phone to use just the wifi connection when using youtube app or explorer...?

install apn on-off when you use wifi, just disable APN connection.
then if you need umts/gprs is 1click enabled

Thanks, this sounds easy enough for my kid to handle when she wants to use the wifi and to be sure that it uses the wifi and not the expensive data from our phone company.
