Crossbow - Lack of sounds - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have instaleld crossbow and love the new OS. However this early version comes with very few sounds. The ringtones are rubbish and the notifications are all very quiet.
Can someone post
Old phone / ring ring - ring tone
A decent incoming message sound - something simple, but loud.
Many thanks
Ashby

Did you just put in on an miniSD card and run the exe? I'll post oldphone later today.

You have to run it through Active sync.
After the install, you need to install activesync 4.5 (currently beta) from M$

I've posted what should be the stock WM5 sounds at this URL:
http://bryanbilocura.com/wm_sounds
(I just uploaded all audio files in the \Windows\ and \Windows\Rings directories that had the system flag set. Let me know if I missed any or if something isn't stock.)

Many thanks NetHead.
I kept missing calls with the default WM6 sounds. I now feel like I have my baby back.

Set ring tone [PhonExt on 4.00 ROMs]

On PPC2003 4.00.10 I have set a ring tone for a contact. However when the person rings I hear the default ring instead of the specific ring tone. With version 4.00.05 this option worked well.
Does anyone have the same problem and have perhaps a solution?
Did you do this using PhonExt, or how?
PhonExt, at least to my knowledge, only worked on 3.17.03, and not on 4.00.05.
To my knowledge I did not use phonext (ring tone to a group) for this. In the contacts app I choose for the option "set ring tone" so I can set a ring tone on an individual person.

That is a PhonExt feature. But PhonExt ringtones already didn't work in 4.00.05, so you must have had it work in 3.17.03 or some other 3.x ROM, right?
Oeps I thouth it was a PPC2003 feature. Í am sure btw that is worked in 3.17.03 and 4.00.05 (cooked by Jeff). It's odd, but I noticed more bugs in PPC2003. I.e. in the today's screen not my all day events are displayed.
But overall I am happy with PPC2003. Hope that we have a Developers version (like v 1.2 SE) soon.
Strange it is working for me very well, I am using Qtek with 4.00.05 from Jeff's Kitchen.
PhonExt does work with 4.00.05
Just confirmed that PhonExt's distinctive ring feature does indeed work on 4.00.05. So there must have been something else wrong when I tested before.
Could someone confirm whether or not it's working on 4.00.10 ?
Amazing. Verified here as well. If you recall we discussed this a month or so ago and it was not working. My .05 ROM does not have it installed so I installed it in RAM and it works! If we can only figure out how to get the "G" notification active in .10 we'd be set. I checked most of the registry without luck.
Hey guys,
I must be shouting my face blue now. I couldn't get the darn ringtone to work in 3.17 rom cooked from Jeff's kitchen and it seemed that there are a couple of guys out there who bothered to respond in my other threads also having the same problem. Somehow it is not working at all -- can anyone reading this post who find that phonext 1.2 doesn't work at all even with 3.17 rom please confirm by tying a simple reply in this forum as well? Thanks.
Cheers
Vic
Try installing it to RAM, not ROM and let us know.
phone ext wont work
ive installed it to both ram and rom...used ser 1.2...now using one off jeffs excellent recipes.....3.17.3......phoneext ringtones wont work!..i did notice a misspelt setting in the registry.....command is spelt commnad[search for phonext]...but that didnt sort it out!...any ideas?
Strange. It did not work for me before either and upon seeing it working in this forum I tried it again and it worked. I know that MUTX RingeToneX works with ppc2002 and it only runs $6.
MUTX RingeToneX works with PPC2003
I just tried MUTX RingeToneX and it works wel with PPC2003 4.00.10
Hi guys,
Just an update- already re downloaded the latest 1.2 phonext and reinstalled it via Active Sync (presumbably means into ram) and still no sign of the darned ringtone working normally. I could dial OK but could not assign any ringtone at all. I also noticed that in the registry Ringtone0, the SavedSound entry doesn't change at all and is fixed at OldPhone which I used as my default previously. I have since changed the default and it still remained the same. The Sound entry is the one which changes whenever one switches the default ringtone. Can anyone throw any light on how to use the software?
Cheers
Vic
PhoneExt
I've not had any luck getting it to work either on my XDA with any version 4 of the rom. I can get it to assign the tones but it just doesn't play them when the person calls.
I think it is the luck of the draw for I tried it with many many reinstallations of all of the 4x roms and NADA. I gave up and then two days ago I saw here that is was working so I downloaded it again, installed it and VOILA! Weird but it works perfectly. It didn't even work on my old ppc2002 install.
Using the 4.00.11 Cooked ROM - Phone Ext does not work for me either despite an exhaustive pount around registry settings - Contacted the Developer - He is looking into it - Will advise when I have news
Hi,
It didn't work for me also with version 3.17 and 4.00.11.
But I'd like to ask you an off-topic question. I see that plenty of you maintain PPC 2003 on your XDA. Doesn't it erase your SD? Because that's the reason I downgraded from PPC2003 to PPC2002 again. :?
I didn't want to say this for fear of jinxing myself but .11 has not erased my sd card once! Knock on wood 3 times! However, I will say I believe the erasures are due to:
-using explorer or other program that accesses files or resides on the sd card and not CLOSING the program when not using it and make sure it is pointing to RAM when closed.
So, try our 2003 and make sure when you use a program that accesses your sd card, close it when done and make sure the program in question is pointing to RAM when you close it. Just my .02.
im having the same preoblems as well guys, have installed phonext on all roms and rams ive had and i can set ring tones, but it will only play the default when someone rings. any one shed some light yet?

Message sounds?

My first post in this incredible forum, I have all ready found so much help here and are most thankful, please keep it up.
Is it possible to make your own message sounds and use them when recieving text messages etc.
If possible at all what format should the file be in (mp3 wav)?
Tried with an mp3 placed in the windows folder it seems it cant find it.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm not an expert so hopefully one will reply, but I think they have to be .wav and I think they have to go in the \windows\rings folder.
cheers

Actually, you are 1/2 right, they need to be wavs, but they go directly into windows, not in the rings folder.
Steve
Yep steve is correct the sound file will need to be a .wav and place into the windows folder, ring tones can be mid,wav and so on and they are placed into the rings folder within windows.
Sound file converter???
Morning all,
My first posting also and yes this has to be the mecca for knwledge of all Wizard related things. My question:
Does anyone know of any software downloads which can convert .wma, mp3 or similar files into .wav??? I'm a complete novice at this sort of stuff but the array of ringtones and message alert tones is rubbish on my K-jam. Thanks for any replies.

You might try Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
It's a free download. I use Sound Editor in Roxio's Media Creator 8 -- one of the MANY useful tools in that program.

YW -- (but I'm a GAL -- not a guy)!! LOL!! But, that's ok -- none of my friends can believe how "techy" I am, either. But, I'm the first one they come running to with a problem. Go Figger!!
Cheers all,
You keep refering to ring sounds, I am looking for Sounds for alarms and recieved messages, and alerts in general.
But I will try it now with wav files in stead of mp3.
Manindesert,
I'm using Sound Forge 7, but then again I really need it for all my music stuff, so give Audacity a shot.
Update Works fine with alarm and message sounds, thank you all.
Is there any way, hack or otherwise, that will allow you to point your rings/sounds to your SD card? Thought it would be nice to free some space and stop having to move files on and off the card. I change my ring tone with my mood
Javahater,
I've been loking for a hack/program/setting that will do that, but no luck so far.
Unfortunately, all SMS & ring tones must be located in main memory!
But there's a possibility to create a program that will browse a folder of ring tones on SD card & once u select a tone, it will be copied to main memory (and of course erase the old default tone from main memory) & will set this new file as the default ring tone for the phone.
Javahater and Ezzkht,
Maybe you should look here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard_Tweaks scroll down to this "ANY FOLDER RING TONES"
You will need a Registry Editor like Total Commander 2 or PHM Regedit
Hope this helps
Javahater,
Have been trying above solution for about an hour, seems that this solution doesn't work under WM5, or at least it doesn't make any difference if you change the folder or not (it only points to windows not windows\rings)
Will have to keep looking.

AGREED !! I've got WM2003SE tried the steps mentioned http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard_Tweaks no use.......it still picks up the default folder from \windows\rings, where as I am pointing it towards \Storage Card\Sound\ not working
ok just double checked.....in sounds and notifications options it goes to \windows\rings folder.....but I have o2 plus installed as well...and in o2 plus sounds and notifications options it points me to \Storage Card\Sound any ideas ?
Ezzkht,
Happy t worked for you, can't say the same for me.
Well it is getting more and more weird, when I look in my registry it only points to \windows\ not even \windows\rings\, despite this it still manages to pick up ringtones/sounds in the rings directory, and all sound files placed in the root of the SD Card(go figure).
I'm out of ideas right now, but am still looking for a solution and will be back if I find one.
I just used Resco Explorer with the registry editor add-in.
It worked with me without a soft-reset!
What device do you have, Mike?
Maybe some nice sounds
Hello everyone!
It's a little bit off topic, a little bit not
My advice: SD card is not really a good place for sounds, at least in my case. Why? Sometimes it happened that when I got a phone call, instead of my nice ringtone I've heard the standard one. I think it has sth to do with powering up SD card while changing from standby mode. It's just my impression.
Secondly: I'm looking for some nice SMS ringtones, not the funky ones... I'm getting a lot of messages and it's really boring if you hear "Heeeeellooooo! Your message is coooooomingggg!" every now and then. I will appreciate if you could share your ringtone with me

MP3 Ringtones in your SDCard!

This may just be the greatest find ever !
Please excuse me if Im the only one who does'nt know.....
Place you MP3 ringtones or music in SDCard/My Documents folder and then select them in Sounds and Notifications! no tweaks, no third party apps!
After yrs I just discovered this!

So? You not share the information..
Homer is the first one who post this information here..
And for me that's what I call fantastic and I must say thanks for his sharing..
No hurt feeling dude..
Yup, so simple.
On my previous handset (iPAQ 6365), i have to put mp3 ringtone files in Storage Card \Rings then change the string value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ControlPanel \SoundCategories \Rings to \Storage Card\Rings\
On atom it's so easy, just put mp3 files in the ROOT of Memory Card (you don't have to create My Documents folder if you don't want to), and voila! The files are automatically shown in sound setting.
What I do is create folder \My Ringtones and put every mp3 that I what to set to ring tones and works like wonder =)
No third party apps or tweaks needed aswell...

Well, a week is too soon for me, I'm thinking of a month, hahaha...
Still adjusting myself, cause I'm used to WM2003 on large screen. I even have to install 3rd party keyboard software to cope with unfamiliar (and such small buttons ) keyboard.
Anyway, back to topic, does anyone ever have problem with delayed reaction? On my previous PPC, sometimes the memory card is too slow to load. When that happens, on incoming call instead of custom mp3 ringtone (which I put on memory card), sometimes the ringtone is back to Windows Default

hehehehehe same here.... after using WM2003 for almost 6 months in my xda mini (which is sooo sad no updates for WM5!) I upgraded to atom.... it's impresive! have just used it for a week then upgrade to WM6. I can say it's much better than WM5. (Sorry OT again)
Anyweiz, I would encounter delay(slugish) in opening memory card contents in my mini before when there are too many apps loaded. In Atom (using WM5 1G miniSD) I never encountered that prob same goes now, wherein im using WM6 AKU 0.7a 6PP @ 2Gb mini sd. free storage is only 600MB left, RAM is around 20-25 free.
Regarding change in ringtone, yes I did encountered that when I tried installing 3rd party apps like phone alarm. It messed up all my configuration when I uninstall it. I need to make a hard reset coz tones(ringtone/sms/alarms et. al) where greyed out is unchangeable.

Alarm tones with Open Touch 3.0

The stock rom from T-mobile had the ability to use my MP3's from my sd card but the new OT prog doesn't have the ability. There's a couple tones on there but nothing that can wake me up. What and where can I put my MP3's to get the alarm to use them? I've tried searching but nothing.
Also, does anyone have any obnoxious and alarming tones to recommend?
usually under /Windows folder. just paste it there and see if it show up. i am having problem with doing this with Ranju 7.7 ROM on my Unversal device
tried that and under the Sounds folder under Windows. Neither. Anyone else?
Yet another thread I can't get help with. lol This forum doesn't like my questions.
You can take any mp3 or whatever and clip it or use the whole thing and just convert it to a .wav file and put it in the window folder. As long as its .wav it'll show up.
actually i tried it and it didnt work maybe to big? 8mb.. but there is some software out there that allows you to use mp3 and from sd, search for Gentimer or spb timer, that wha i have used .... btw O.T. 3.0 has nothing to do with your tones OT is a ROM
I know OT is a Rom but why is it on the stock Tmobile Rom the mp3's worked as alarm tones but now that I've switched to OT, denied?

Custom Sounds for Text Messages etc.

Guys,
My apologies if this has been covered before.... Only I've had a really bad day in Theatre (I lost a loving, warm and friendly aged Lady earlier) and all I want to do now is pack up for today and go home.
So.... I have a few custom sounds in .wma format that I've placed into Windows/Rings and would like to use these for my Text Messages, Email Alerts etc.
Trouble is the Sounds & Notifications list does not show these in the drop down list of available sounds.
If I select Phone they do show but any of the others and they are not displayed.
Therefore, the question being ~ Is there any way to have these custom sounds displayed and readily available for my Phone?
Thanks in advance.
Ringtones need to be be in the Rings folder.
Don't know why but anything else needs to be in the Windows folder to appear.
Here is one from Python Holy Grail that I find good.

That is quite strange...... All my Ringtones are located in Windows/Rings.
I don't have a folder named Rings in the root.
Thanks for the Monty Python... appreciated.
Apologies, let me clarify.
Ringtones in Windows\Rings
All others Windows\
Hope thats clearer.
My Sounds and Notifications show all the wav files in the windows directory, plus any wav/mp3/wma in My Documents (device or storage card).

Yes thanks... Got it now.
I've moved them into the Windows folder and they now work.
It's quite confusing when we mention ring tones and basically the ones I will be using are a ring tone.
But now I can see what you mean.... The default ring tones are in the Windows/Rings.
All other ring tones are in the Windows main folder.
Thanks.

Carrying this forward, is there any way we can change the 'tap' sound?
The iPhone sound is very nice when you tap the screen but the custom HTC one is awful
