a program that could dial #whatever to check minutes left, read the incoming msg for minutes left and display on today screen
this would be neato
There's a FREE app called Smaato Cost that does pretty much what you're wanting. Although it doesn't "dial" a number to check the minutes you have left, it keeps track of your minutes used/remaining right on the device.
It takes some time to set it up initially, but once it's set up it's extremely accurate in keeping track of your voice minutes, text messages, and data useage -- GPRS, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.
Wouldn't hurt to try it and see what you think. . .

I have outlook setup to check every minute for email which works fine for me yet the 1 niggle I have is I would like the device to switch on and alert when there is a new email like when you receive an SMS
When I send a test message and then switch device on its flashing that there is an email waiting so it obviously downloaded it while the device was off
Email Alert WhenSwitched Off
Yes, it will warn you of an incoming email, even when switched off. You will have to ensure that you have attached a noise to the 'Incoming Email' under "Notifications".
The really neat thing is, if you are driving along using TomTom, you still get the audio alert, and a small preview pane pops up giving you the title and sender of the email. If you ignore it, it fades away after a few seconds.
Brilliant
Just gave it a quick test, killed everything under task manager (e.g. mailbox) so nothing running, disconnected GPRS & turned off phone... sent a message and a few mins later up it comes
Have to admit that I am getting more & more impressed with the Universal and with unlimited data its a perfect device just hope HTC dont bring out anything better soon as i'm on 18 month contract

You got FLEXT'd!
Just got a Mogul a few days ago...the problem is my text messaging program opens up randomly for no reason, when I don't have any new text messages.
It's annoying because it'll awake from sleep mode even though there's nothing to check.
A hard reset didn't take care of this.
Any ideas?
Is the messaging screen that appears the last thing that was on the screen before you shut it off?
It might be turning on because of other reasons, and just happens to always be on the messaging app.
Never thought of that...I'm currently on hold with Spring customer service. Been on hold for about 30 minutes, so I'm guessing it'll be another 3 hours before someone answers.
They said it's not a known problem, so they're just sending me a new one. Gay.
Do you have add the Threaded SMS application to your phone? Because my messaging used to pop up randomly too but after I got rid of the application, it stopped.
Just put your phone upside down next to you while you're sleeping avoids getting woken up when the phone wakes up.
Most cdma windows mobile phones wake up when switching tower too.. So if you're in a fringe area with bad reception, it may frequently wake up when it hops from one tower to the next.-mark
My phone will jump into analog every now and then and the backlight will come on for a few secs when that happens. But my messaging window doesn't pop up. My only problem with that is my texts that come in will not be in order recieved, even when that option is checked.
I am having the exact problem, I am using Shogunmarks threaded SMS program and every few minutes or so the mogul wakes up off batt power and the only app running is messaging. Going to uninstall and try another version.
If you settle on a version you like, let us know. I have uninstalled that one too.
I also have the Shogunmarks threaded SMS program installed. I don't have any problems with it now after running it for a few wks. My texts are in order and my backlight only comes on when it's in and out of analog.
I have had a wizard for about a month now with few issues. After the first couple days I settled on Jaguar 4.0 ROM, and it has been working great except for a few times when it freezes / won't let me unlock the screen to use it.
However, the past few days a big issue has come about. I can make calls easily, but I cannot receive them. People say it goes straight to my voicemail. My phone doesn't ring, doesn't tell me I have missed calls, doesn't tell me I have voicemail.
Last night I found one thing that may be part of the problem. On the top, it shows the network strength - this is always strong. To the left of that, it SHOULD show an 'E' symbol, possibly for the edge network (at&t) ? Anyways, I know the E is there when it works. I can also connect to internet via GPRS when this is there. Lately, that E symbol no longer shows up. Intead, it has a different symbol with an 'x' on it (two arrows in opposite directions with a small x). At first I thought this just meant I wasn't connected to the internet for data usage at that time, but I've learned that I cannot receive calls either. If I try to connect to the internet, it says connecting but never connects.
If I click around in the menus and connection menus, or reset the phone (sometimes), eventually I can get the 'E' to show again and the phone is working like it should (not sure how to actually get it back, but after clicking around in menus I can). However, it doesn't stay. It seems to stay on a few minutes, I think everything is ok, and then I look at my phone 30 minutes later and that symbol is gone, thus I am no longer receiving calls.
It's weird, because I can make calls easily regardless of the symbol there. I'm clearly connected to the network, have a signal, etc. I've checked flight mode, which is always off. I've checked settings and everything looks ok.
Any ideas on what is going on or how to fix this?
Edit: Note - Turning flight mode ON and then OFF seems to get the E back and the connection restored properly. I think the same happens by turning the phone OFF then ON. However, it only stays fixed temporarily (less than 30 minutes) and gives no notice the proper connection is lost. I just find out next time I look at the phone and see it's not working and find out I've missed important phone calls.
Hi all,
every our my wifi turns on automatically and downloads my emails... nice one, but i don't know why and actually would like to stop it to save the battery...
I think it's something with the schedule option from activesync...
anyone have the same problem?
Well I was playing with the phone yesterday setting up emails. In your settings for email, there should be one that dictates how often the phone picks up email. Now, mine does it through the GPRS data plan, and I'm not sure why yours does it through wifi.
But there is an option for getting emails every few mins to every hour to every 4 hours to once a day.
So dig a bit in the email accounts and click things that look like 'settings' or 'options' or 'advanced' and you'll find the drop down box that have these options.
Me and my girlfriend both got a Nexus 4 a month ago and that was when the problems started:
Google talk shows a greyed out contact list a lot of the times, and other times it works as it should. I also see that when Google talk is working fine on my phone that sometimes my girlfriend goes offline, while she is in the same room as me and nothing has changed. Clearing the app's data, rebooting the phone, toggling airplane mode and signing in and out from google talk don't fix the problem. And even when we both are showing as online, sometimes when a message is sent, it gets delivered after a few minutes instead of right away.
Strange thing is that on other moments it justs works nice and fast.
An extra thing to mention is that in Whatsapp during that same time that Google Talk fails to work, messages get delivered really slow. I see my phone sends them to the Whatsapp server succesfully, but the delivery on the other phone can take 5 minutes or more.
Does this sound familiar?

Sounds like you're randomly losing data connection. Are your signal bars blue or grey during this issue?

The signal bars are blue and my internet connection seems to work at those times. That's the strange thing
I've done some more investigation when Google talk showed my girlfriend as offline a few minutes ago. The signal bars where fully blue and other applications that required an internet connection worked as the should. When I called my girlfriend the phone ringed immediately and it all worked good.
