Hello
I have an O2 XDA2 but I think that O2 are rubbish. I was happier on Orange before. I have unlocked my XDA2 and could change to Orange later this year when my year with O2 finishes. But I have a question -
When you have an answerphone message on Orange, your phone shows a little tape symbol (different from the SMS envelope symbol). How does this work with the XDA2? Does it show the SMS envelope instead?
It seems from these forums that people have got GPRS and MMS working with Orange from O2 machines, so does anyone else know of any problems in switching to Orange from O2?
TIA
Hi Silicon5,
My device isn't an O2 XDAII, but a simfree I-mate, but I've had absolutely no problems with it on Orange.
* Orange GPRS is fine. Dead easy to set up.
* Answerphone does indeed display a "tape" icon (and a balloon saying you have an answerphone message with a "Play" button).
* Other people have posted how to set up WAP/MMS.
Phil
Thank you for your reply Phil. Sounds good. I guess I could try a friend's SIM card on my XDA2 and see what happens.

Works completely perfectly.
Had mine nearly four months now (an O2 XDA2 that's only ever been used with an Orange SIM, that is!).

Thank you shadamehr. Is this guide available on this site? I searched but can't find it. It would be useful when I finally get rid of o2.

Duh - thanks loads for that. It is exactly what i will need. For some reason I was looking through your post history for a PDF document or something. Didn't go back far enough.
Shademehr do you also get the tape reel symbol when you have an answerphone message waiting? The O2 system of sending one sms (which I often find myself deleting but forgetting to listen the message) is a pain. I used to love the tape reel symbol thing when I was with orange before. Interesting if the XDA2 does come with this in the OS even though it was an o2 machine.

Miss a call, and I get a notification.
If the caller leaves a voicemail, I get the tape icon, as long as its not set to send me a text to notify - not even sure if you can with orange...
So, YUP - I get the tape reel icon, as notification of left voicemail.
BUT, if you get ANOTHER notification of another type, the XDA2 can only show one icon, so you THEN get the standard "notifications" alert icon instead.
Good news. Thanks for your help. I'll be switching to orange just as soon as i can...
Can anyone configure the below app to work with WM5? below is the version for the older handsets.
even better, this one works on my Jasjar.
I tried this one; it works.
Just tried it on my mda pro, doesn't seem to work?
Why on earth would you possibly want to put this cab file onto the phone?
If you go into the Options for Text messages on the phone you tick the box that says request delivery notifications and you will get your delivery reports. Have you not had a look through the options or the manual yet?
yes but the i-mate handsets have never had the option to permenantly keep the Delivery report options on as with other normal handsets, and the above cab files resolve this issue so for every txt msg you send you dont ahve to go to options and select the check box.
For some reason, with the O2 xda Exec, even using the built-in delivery notification option, I don't receive delivery notification even when the text is delivered to another O2 phone. Any ideas?
Did this ever work before on any other handset?
As from what i know o2 dont support delivery reports, for some reason if your on o2 then you need to type *#0 and then your msg, then you will recieve a deliver report, well thats what i have to do on my o2 line.
That's terrible! I'm new to O2, and before on T-Mobile and Orange I could just tick the box. Any other way round it that changing the phone number?
You dont need to change the phone number, in your main msg you need to add the above as text in the beggining. Or you can quicken things up by adding it as a 'My text' feature within the phone.
I understand now, thanks, however if I send a message and the text is, for example:
*#0Hello
The other person receives a text message with "*#0Hello" in it and I get no report back :?
CJS try *0#<space> then your message
Nope, no good already tried it
CJS I've just sent a message using "*0#" and it works no problem mate
Oh! ump001 said "*#0" and then when you said try it with a space I didn't notice you'd corrected it to "*0#". That works just fine, even without a space. Cheers!
Ouch though, all those tests with the wrong code really hit my credit

Does it work on O2, bypassing the need for *0#?
O2 simply don't have delivery reports as per standard on their network. The only way to do it is with the *0# option in the Subject title (thereby ensuring you have the "space"...
Cheers

PS - ordering my Exec on Wed / Thursday...

CJSnet; sorry, I'm on T-mobile. Delivery reports working fine for me, but I know that KPN NL doesn't support them. I always get a message back that sending was succesfull, even when I know that the phone I'm sending the message is turned off...
Anyway, to go short: I don't have experience with O2
I've never really understood why o2 have to be different and be the only network not to have delivery reports. Could it be cost???? come on o2 stop being cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand that with Qtek 9100 you cannot copy ALL contact to the SIM card all in once, but there is a way to get round that and get it done. Now, I have the same problem with my Qtek 9600 and I really want to copy ALL contact details to my SIM card without the need of copying one contact at a time.
BTW, I have no problem copying all contact details from my computer to the PPC via Active Sync.
Can anyone out there be kind enough to guide me through this, if this can be done at all?
Thanks.
Check out the SIM Manager utility. It has a "contacts to SIM" menu option...
Keep in mind that SIMs have limited space. Depending on how many contacts you have, you may not be able to get them all loaded...

Thanks for the prompt assistance.
Got it done. Thanks again.
Hi,
I've been searching the forums here trying to find these answers and have tried all different word configurations in search and still haven't found anything so I thought I would post and ask.
1. I moved my documents to the Storage Card is there anyway to get them to sync when I sync with my computer now? When I sync it still looks on the phone instead of the Storage Card. And I want the My Documents to sync with the folder on my desktop.
2. when sending a Text MSG a pop up comes up saying it was sent this drives me crazy... I just need it to tell me when I get a text MSG not when I sent it.
Thanks for the help... If this has been asked before please give me the Thread and I'll read it, but I've been searching and haven't found anything yet.
I'm on VP3G's V3.0 WM6 Rom on a Cingular Hermes 8525

I think that's for WM5 not WM6 because I don't have a Settings folder under Inbox in the registry.
Ive seen this question asked several times during my search for the answer, but no one ever replies to it....
Since the upgrade WM6, the Reciepients name in the "to:" field within any new message will not auto complete...
I always have to fill in the number, or their name and select 'Check Names' in the menu and then choose my selection.
PLEASE will SOMEONE tell me the reg entry i need to alter, or the cab i need to (re)install to fix this chink in my BA's armour....
Many thanks in advance.

No one has answered this question cause probably no one has faced this problem after upgrading to WM6. I just now checked by creating new Text Message and when I hit at "To:", it opens up my contact list and I can pickup any number.
I know others have faced this problem 'cos several other people are asking for soloutions to the exact same issue, they just never recieved replies...
Also, yes mine works when i click the 'to:' button aswell, but it should predict the recipients name as you type it.
there are users on several platforms, not just BA, running WM6 roms with this exact same issue...
C'mon guys, PLEASE HELP!
Dickie
May be I dont understand your question!!
When I type "a" in the space, list of all names starting with 'a' opens up and gets shorter and shorter as I type more letters. What else do you expect it to do?

This is EXACTLY whats not working! this 'auto complete' function has stopped since the WM6 upgrade...
hey, i got the same issue also..
when i typed "A" in the recipient it dont auto complete with "a" contacts.
my solution is :-> type "a+space" then delete the space, the auto complete will come out with the "a" contact listings. hope it helps.. =D
I have always found it faster just to click on the to button and let that do the auto complete. I seem to always select the wrong contact with the auto complete in the actual message.
do you have other then English language support on your device?
I have Hebrew support, I have to type the first two letters and delete the last one -> then it source according to the first letter
SMS works fine for me but MMS doesn't do the predictive contact call up and it is a pain in the arse.
Not a big problem but a pain in the arse nonetheless.
did you install "htc dual keyboard + keypad". I installed this app, and the predictive contact search stop working on sms. After uninstallation, its working again.
as with mms, i dont think it has ever worked since 2003SE. you have to click "to:" and search within the contact list.
the answer to your proplem is :
this is because the contact are not stored in your PIM database, but on the SIM card, that is why they are not predicable but they can be accessed by pressing on the "to" button.
solution: use sim manager to save contacts to the phonebook
hope u find it helpful
that is what i was gonna say "life owner" you are correct according to the problem i had

i will NOT do that if i were you...
that would only make the predictive list double the names you have...
(Or you could delete the contacts in your simcard after you copied)
if you played with the options
in the Settings->Input->Word Completion.
i would suggest a hard reset
if you did the above and no changes was reflected.

thank god, someone agreeing this issues does exist and its not something i'm doing...
Although, typing a space after the first character, then deleting it does not bring up the auto complete.
But.. i did install "htc dual keyboard + keypad", which i will remove now to see if functionality returns..
Also.. my contacts are stored on the Phone, not the sim.
Cheers for your suggestions guys, i'll keep u updated...
Dickie
UPDATE - Removed "htc dual keyboard + keypad" and functionality is restored.... what exactly does this program do? if its supposed to skin the touch screen keyboard, it never worked for me anyway...
Cheers Guys!

"htc dual keyboard + keypad" give you big numbers and letters button (the idea is to allow you not to use stylus and use your thumb to type) AND it also give predictive english words feature.. and i guess it cannot co exist with the predictive contact feature of sms... i guess this is the most logical explanation... for me anyway
actually it's not an issue regarding auto-complete...
htc dual keyboard+keypad is filtering your input and displays it's own "one-liner" prediction and thus the default system Auto Word Completion doesnt kick in.
and it doesnt matter to the default auto-complete if it's in the phone or in the sim card... if you have two copies of one item... it will list double.
it's not an SMS problem... it's a program glitch(feature?). haha...
Hi I have the same problem.
i removed htc dual keyboard and its still not working!
do i need to enable some options some wherE?
Thanks
try to do what silver samurai suggested, the setting may have been changed:
start > settings > personal > input > word completion > place a tick mark on "suggest words when entering text"
I tried that and it didn't work.
Thanks
