My wife has a Cingular Motorola 551. I am looking to get her a Blackjack or something along those lines. She is not interested in Internet Access, email push, etc, but wants to be able to update her calendar, todo list, contacts, and some games as I do on my 8525. If I find her a Blackjack or whatever cheap online, can she pull the Sim card out of the V551 and use it for her Cingular phone service? Thanks for the help.

So I just purchased an Imate Jam. On my old phone (Nokia) I copied all my current contacts to my SIM card. Put SIM into Jam and I can't see any of my contacts. Put SIM into Nokia it sees them fine. How can I copy my contacts from my SIM into my Jam?
Thanks.
saldous,
there is a program called Sim Manager in the Program Files Directory.
Once loaded, it will show the contacts available. click on Edit--> Select All
Hold the stylus on one of the contacts selected and click -> Save To Contacts.
Hope this will solve your problem
Regards,
Eman
Just out of interest, does the xda use the memory on the simm for contacts, i.e. does it save to simm so when you take your simm to another phone, you take all your contacts? (no I haven't searched this question, it's spur of the moment stuff)!
Thanks, worked great.
I don't think it saves new ones to the SIM.
No, the magician is only capable of importing SIM data to its internal contacts database. The memory on today's SIM cards wouldn't be enough to hold all this information on them. I think that modern phones also don't use the SIM card to store all the extended contact informations they provide, like email addresses etc. I guess they only store one main phone number into the SIM, the rest into the phone's memory. I would prefer this solution for the Magician though, because it would at least keep the most important numbers on the SIM. Maybe this is also a speed issue (the SIM manager is quite slow).
Does anyone know how to erase contacts from the sim card once the transfer to the PDA memory is done?
What about using the delete function in the Sim manager
Right now I have all my contacts on my Razr phone (not sim) and I bought a new 8125 to be here Wed. What is the best way to get the done? I need to move them over soon.
Do I copy all to sim then just move the sim over?
Thanks,
Well, you also could use bluetooth - sending one by one. If you have other contact information than phone numbers (as example email addresses) they won't save on SIM ...
All I have on the sim and or phone is the phone numbers. Nothing else.
I would just copy the contacts to your SIM from the Razr and then copy them from the SIM to the phone or even better just leave them on the SIM in the new device.

if you sync to your information to your computer, you may be able to transfer your contacts through outlook from your razr and then sync that info to your 8125. I use to have a razr in the past, but I don't remember if the syncing software was outlook if motorola had used their own pim manager...
the one qualm i have with transfering through the sim card is that all the extra information is usually not transfered (ie, e-mail addresses, addresses, birthdays, etc). The sim card tends to only hold names and phone numbers...or at least that was my experience.
You can also use a software called Motorola phone tools to get them to your computer which you can import into outlook
Waiting for my 8525 in the mail, but wondering what is the best way to get all my contacts from my Motorola E816 to my new 8525? I have way too many numbers to type them all in.
If you can synch your E816 to your PC (outlook contacts, or similar) then synch your new phone and you'll be set.
Otherwise you might have to send all your contacts one at a time via bluetooth or IRDA, or copy them across the SIM card, but that could lose a lot of info.
I'm sure there's other ways, but that's all I can come up with right now.
Cheers! Oggy.
Well the problem with my E816 is that it's a CDMA phone, not GSM. So that means no SIM card. and i'm pretty sure i'd be unable to sync it to Outlook.
CDMA, bugger. Are you in Australia by any chance? I've got a friend who's going to have to go through this also in a few months as they are shutting down the CDMA network.
If you find a good solution, please post it.
Good luck!
Oggy.
No, I live in California, USA. I'm just switching from amp'd mobile to Cingular.

Click to collapse
You can use Motorola Phone Tools to sync the phone with the software phonebook or Outlook.
Then you can just import into the 8525 once you set up an active sync connection (if you synced to Outlook)
Hi all,
So i managed to outright buy a Legend here in Australia and its not out yet here so there no local news from phone stores or info or help i can get from friends or family since they either use Iphone or old school Nokia's
I love the Legend, its got everything I need half of that is potentially what i need.
I have a few questions, i made a big jump from a standard Nokia phone to a smartphone. The legend stood out for me and while I have a 10mega pixel camera and a flip HD video recorder, this phone replaces these devices and not the missus owns these devices while i have my new slick phone
Only had this phone for 3 days and theres a lot of work to do, i managed and figured out how to setup internet with my pre paid provider, link the facebook accounts with my sim contact, gmail account i haven't used in years (I prefer hotmail) but that is set up.
so a few questions
1) How do i get yahoo and hotmail emails setup like Gmail (or it cannot be done that way?) its asking for a POP3, IMAP account and i tried Windows pop3 settings and no luck.
2) alternative are there any good apps for yahoo and MSN Live messengers that way i have access to the inbox of these respective accounts? Or better..is there an app to have all messengers accessible in the one app?
3) i have 2GB card inserted so when i mount the storage and place a video file either on the root of the SD or created a new folder and put it in, i can't seem to find this file
4) Is there any must have apps i should have? any recommendations
5) Is there something else i should know about this phone? maybe an option im not aware over and you've just figured out how or where?
Thanks!

Normally I put the video in /DCIM/100MEDIA/ directory. Legend doesn't read Divx file, maybe only the software yxflash can do (you'll find it on android market
4) Is there any must have apps i should have? any recommendations
A lot. Astro, Goggles, webcam widget,etc.etc. There are some forums even in xda-developers dedicated to apps.

Battery life is depending by yr provider (2G or 3G), WIFI and sync. Try to switch off WIFI if you don't use, switch to 2G if you don't need fast speed, stop sync if you don't need to be updated minute by minute. It'll save yr battery life and elongate from 8-10 hours to 1-2 days.
After a month or so of playing around with Android ported to my Tilt, the old lady was at Best Buy today and found their sale and pulled the trigger on a pair of Streaks. Despite my best efforts, she still keeps all of her contact information on her SIM card, not in Outlook sync'd with Activesync. She is worried about putting her SIM in the Streak and losing all her contact info. I'm traveling right now, so I can't do it for her, and walking her through the sync process to back up her Xperia is a non-starter over the phone.
Long story short, will the Streak, running the ATT 1.6 wipe the contacts off her SIM or will it give her an option to upload them to the phone (and hopefully, then, her Gmail account)? I'm leaning towards the import option... or worst case, just access them like her Xperia does now. But if I tell her to do it and she loses the contacts the last backup I made was like 2 years ago when I gave her that Xperia. If she loses 2 years of updates I'll never hear the end of it.
So am I safe in telling her to go ahead, or should she wait till I'm there? I need an easy way for her to do it on her own because backing it up to Outlook, saving the contact files one-by-one, and then importing to Gmail isn't something she will do. And in the week or so till I see her again, she's got two brand-new Streaks and a faulty Xperia. You can imagine the temptation lol.
Oh, and I did search, but didn't find that particular answer.
Thanks.
She can insert her sim in the Streak. It will not remove anything(contacts, text messages) off of the sim card. She can then import her contacts from the sim into the Streak & back them up using Gmail. I'm not sure the steps to import contacts on 1.6 though.
Using 2.2 on Streak you go to Contacts app-> press menu on Streak->then there is an icon that says import/export-> you press that-> then choose to import contacts off sim. See if that helps on Android 1.6.
Thanks Ron, I'll pass that along.
