Okay, any help on this would be massively appreciated!
I have an XDA IIs, and a Belkin Wireless Pre-N Router. After some initial farting around the two now talk happily to one another and I can browse the web on my lovely black brick.
So far so good.
Now for the bad part. My girlfriend just got an XDA Mini S.
Using the exact same settings as the IIs, the phone won't connect. It finds my wireless network, and I chose connect to The Internet (same as on the IIs). No joy. In wireless settings the status of the connection simply says Availalbe. Then I hit connect, it says connecting, then it goes right back to available.
Here's what I've tried with no joy...
* Phoning O2. They have no idea, say there's no official ROM update either and it ain't their problem. Grrr.
* Tried disabled all security and firewall.
* Tried WEP and WPA security with the right keys entered in the Mini S. (Can get the IIs to work on all of these)
* Turned of MAC filtering.
* Turned on MAC filtering with the Mini S MAC address on the allow list.
* Updated the firmware on the router to the very latest (December 05) version
* Hard reset the phone, reinstalling in 'personal' mode, then in 'basic' mode.
* Tried connecting to Work instead of the Internet. (Obviously not going to work but I'm getting desparate by this point)
* Turned the routers protected mode to Off and to On
* Set up the router as a basic access point with no security or firewall at all.
* Tried manually assigning an IP address to the phone.
All to no avail. I've seen others with similar problems elsewhere here and on the web with no joy. Its a real pain as she only got the phone for the wireless capabilities and my flipping PSP is better at the job than her brand new PDA!
She's threatening to break something (possibly parts of the chief exec of O2s anatomy) unless I can fix it. As I don't want to have to visit her in Durham prison for the next few years does anyone have any suggestions!
Please!
PS noted that aside from the obvious differences in Windows Mobile versions between my IIs and her Mini S; my wireless network adapter is listed as "tiacxwln Compatible Wireless Ethernet" and her's is listed as "SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter". Its the only setup difference I can find.
Try changing wireless settings from best battery to best performance
Forgot to mention - I've already tried that one. Thanks for the suggestion though!
I found a registry hack elsewhere here to make the wizard connect in G-Mode. If i tried it, it wouldn't connect to all accesspoints i tried.
Perhaps this helps you, try to change between b/g mode.
Thanks for that. I have tried the router in both b and g mode as well as mixed with no luck.
Will have a look for the reg hack and see if that makes any differerece.
You genius steewb!
Installed the cab file with the reg hacks for g mode, reset and it worked. Hurrah!
Thank you so much.
(Incidentally I also turned ACK on the router off - though I doubt this made a difference. Just thought I'd mention it if anyone else was having problems and wanted to try it).
Incidentally the Mini S seems to get better wireless reception than my IIs. Might have to convince my girlfriend to swap phone with me now.
wifi problem
Actually, I had the same wifi problem with my Wizard connecting to Belkin pre-N router. Turning off QoS and Ack solved the issue. So I suspect you might have solved this by turning QoS/Ack off. Try turning it back on and see if the problem comes back.

as is mentioned many time in this forum, i decided to READ anything remotely similar to my problem and found a few references to the (o2) wizard having problems with wpa security. so i turned that off! and then my pc wouldn't connect! after a quick heart attack i solved that and now i am connected on both. Many thanks to all who posted in the networking forum.

Hi,
is there any solution for getting LEAP working on Wizard. It seems that I-mate AKU 2 ROM has software for it since I can start LEAP program and add new entries, but it's not working - I can't connect to my corporate WLAN.
Is there any solution for this problem. Will this be at least in some new ROM, etc?
I'm in the same boat.
I've done countless searches and hours of investigation. Some have reported success, but I have contacted them and done exactly as they did and still no joy.
My network administrator claims that we are not using any restrictive protocols and/or options on our network and is also puzzled as to why it will not connect. It does attempt to connect to the AP, but authorization fails everytime.
I have official given up. If anyone can provide insight I believe that many would be indebited.
Perhaps you and the admin should take a look at the logs and figure out where it's stopping exactly? I haven't had the need to use LEAP yet so I can't really comment but a little sniffing around will probably tell you what's going on.
My main question is: Is LEAP working at all on Wizard? My previous device was iPAQ 4150 and it was working perfect using LEAP in my corporate WLAN - so I don't think that the problem is in some restrictions.
With the new AKU2 ROM came an add on for LEAP - the software is there, but is Wizard actually using entries that I enter there? It seems that it doesn't.
Well I have some encouraging news for you ...
My last PDA was also the 4150, and I could not get that working on our corporate WLAN either ... therefore ... you may have better luck than I.
Best of luck ... if you get it working, could PM me please.
Thanks, Greg
it's amazing why enterprises are still using the LEAP when its proprietary to cisco when many non proprietary types of EAP are easily available and better support..
PEAP for one is totallly free, offers similar if not stronger authentication and works with most recent windows operating systems
I have gotten it to work. The last version of Funk Odyssey works. You can download a trial from Juniper's website.
I used to be able to tether using my old ROM as well as the "un-official" new ROM versions prior to the recently released ROM update dated 4/09/07.
I use Missing Sync (ver 3.0.2) on OS X, and it would allow me to tether the 8525 using internet sharing set to USB. Now the only way I am able to tether is via the Bluetooth PAN, and even then the connection is spotty at best.
Did the official ROM change the way Internet Sharing works? This is very annoying and any assistance or ideas would be welcome.
I downgraded from the CUSTEL 2.5 WM6 ROM due to Missing sync's inability to sync with it as well as an inability to tether my Mac. Vista using Bootcamp works but Vista isn't my cup of tea...
Soon...
In a couple of weeks time you will have a solution to your problems with Apple OS X and Microsoft Windows Mobile. (Hint: it's not free.)
I am assuming that this would the much anticipated Missing sync update. If only I could shorten the wait... oh well.
Thanks.
Not really. Trade your 8525 for the iPhone!
bluetooth pan
something must be wrong with your phone because I use Bluetooth pan with internet sharing at work, in my car, at home and it works just fine. I even thought about ditching the Internet at home

I do it too. All the time. Is AWESOME from the car, especially in a a 3G area. (Parked, not driving.)
i can't even connect my 8525 to my mac via bluetooth. it worked once and now the phone won't open up the passcode screen to connect.
edit: my rom is version 1.34.502.3. should i update to a newer one?
I think its the location that I am at that may be to blame. I have a really slow connection via Bluetooth PAN. The same isn't true when using Vista and Internet sharing via USB - that connection is much faster (though it too blanks out at times).
As for connecting to OS X: simply start the Bluetooth setup assistant on the mac and search for "any device". Then select the phone and pair the two. At the very end of the process the Mac will list the services that are available via the phone. One of them will be the shared network.

yeah, it stalls after i select it from the device list. the screen where it gives me the passcode to connect it, it seems like my phone doesn't receive it. not sure. but you think i should upgrade the rom? looks like mine is kinda old.
I'm posting with OSX using my phone right now
delete the bluetooth pairing on the osx machine and on the phone
from osx bluetooth assistant and select any device
if it asks about using the phone as a headset disselect that
if the phone once pairs asks about a serial device do not select that
verify if bluetooth still is on on the phone
goto internet sharing
bluetooth pan
connect
make sure its actually connected to the internet
on the osx machine click the bluetooth icon again and select "join network on ___your phones name____ "
thats it!
sometimes give it a second
if it still doesn't work make sure you don't have some kind of crazy firewall setup
using Custel's 2.5 rom (windows mobile6)

Hi,
Some weeks ago I tryed to use MissingSync for internet sharing with different WM6 versions without success. With official AKU3.3.1 version it works with the USB cable. But battery life is very short with this version.
Regards.
Yes, missing sync does not yet support WM6. Try the "normal" bluetooth pan method described above.
Anyone tried doing OS X tethering with newer versions of the WM6 roms?
I'm currently running vp3G 2.0 (WM6), rom date 5/15/07, radio 1.40.30.00, protocol ver. 32.73.7020.16H
Because I'm working offsite tomorrow, I was hoping to use my phone to tether my laptop to work with VPN on the laptop... and then I can login and out of the timeclock, etc. But trying it from work tonight before I leave, I can't get the bluetooth on my 8525 to connect to the PC.
Followed Neomuzic's instructions to the letter, but Safari isn't getting things working. Any assistance would be appreciated!!!
Nevermind... I'm a dork! Figured out where Internet Sharing was on the phone, and all is well. Having a little trouble connecting to my work proxy server... but messing with that now.

As of August2007, Missing Sync 4 supports WM6.
I'm also using bluetooth pan right now to post
Hello all,
I usually dont post much since i rarely have anything to contribute, but this time I do. I am running a macbook connected to my cingular 8525 thru the bluetooth pan and have zero problems. I upgraded my rom to the new vp one with all the latest settings and love it. No more looking for a hotspot for me. I dont use safari broswer on my mac, i use firefox. Thanks to everyone on this forum with the knowledge and time for helping the rest of us.
What i do is connect my JasJam to xp running through parallels, start internet sharing and it installs the drivers(first time of connecting it) and then it works perfectly everytime. Only in xp though.
I have installed the latest missing sync but havent tried internet sharing on mac osx but now that u guys say it works thats awesome! Will mess with it later (knowing me i won't attempt to get it to work until i'm off in some foriegn area with no internet connection and will need to download drivers that i'll struggle to get through pie/opera on my jasjam...) i fail to plan ahead with things like this! lol

Tethering 8525 to MACBOOK. HELP.
I tried several different approaches to tether my 8525 to my MACBOOK, with no success.
I have specific scripts from the web installed into the modem scripts folder. No luck with any of them. I believe the scripts aren't the problem but the COM ports are the culprit.
I recieve an error message that says," Failed to open RFCOMM serial channel. Check if authentication needs to be enabled in your device"
This is after pairing the 8525 to the MACBOOK and completing the blue tooth setting in the Network folder in the System Preference folder.
The pairing is successful because I can "send files" to the 8525 via blue tooth icon.
I read somewhere that the MACBOOK should allow me to set and choose COM ports but I haven't found the option.
My question is where do I find the COM port option in the MACBOOK because I believe that is where my problem is.
MACBOOK C2D, OS 10.4.10.

I just moved into this new place, just got the Cox Cable internet installed yesterday, picked up a new "Belkin N Wireless Router" model # F5D8233-4. Works fine with the laptop- I've had it setup using unsecured, WEP, & WPA/WPA2 Personal. No problems on the laptop. Inexpensive Dell Inspiron with Vista Home Basic.
However, the Wing will not cooperate at all. It only wants to connect to unsecured networks. It will connect to mine and others it detects in the appt complex. But as soon as any type of security is enabled it just tries to connect for a few seconds, then the network becomes unavailable. I'm soo tired of clicking around in the Wing with this stylus, I'm about to throw it out the window.
I've set up a static IP on the laptop so to better work with port forwarding & Azureus. Will this have an effect on what I'm trying to do? I can't see how it would, but I'm no expert.....
So here's what I've done. In the routers setup page, I've selected 64bit wep, typed in a passkey and hit generate. Wrote down the 4 keys it generated, saved the changes and exited the router setup. I think where I'm messing up is what I should be doing next with the Wing. Can anyone walk me through this?
About the only thing of note that I've done to the Wing as far as tweaking is concerned is to install Home Screen/Battery Status, overclocked to 260, and tweaked the registry to allow ring tones from the sd card.
HELP!!
maybe your wing uses the same ports as the ones you've forwarded to connect to your router. You should always make it really obscure (something like 65530-65534) to make sure that there are no conflicts between other apps and any port related protections your ISP may have implemented.
You are setting up your wing with the key, right? It might just be that the wing is incompatible with 64bit wep.
Let me clarify- the port forwarding was set up for the Azureus bit torrent client. Way obscure ports-in the 49,xxx-50,xxx range.
Yeah, setting up the wing with the key. The only choices are 64 and 128bit wep. And the WPA/PSK. Neither work. When the little window pops up asking for the net work key, I enter one of the ones I wrote down. The thing doesn't seem to be compatible with any type of security. Which kinda sucks....To use the wi-fi at home, I have to leave my router open to "signal thieves".
thats funny, actually.
I have my linksys wrt54g set to 64 bit 10 hex security and it works just fine. Maybe your problem has something to do with the wireless n part of your router? The wing is not compatible with draft-n. Does your router also broadcast with wireless-g or b?
It does...I just switched it over. Waiting for the Wing to reboot then I'll try again. Good thinking.
Ok, that didn't work either. The selections in the router are
1- Off
2- 802.11g,
3- 802.11g, 802.11b, 802.11n
4- 802.11n
It was on #3, I changed to #2 and no luck. Grrr...
Have a look on your wireless lan power settings, my Wing also had huge wifi problems all fixed when I changed the power to better performance.
I think I found a thread that mentioned that while researching this problem. Anyways, I've already made that change.
Which network adapter is the wi-fi one? Is it this- "SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter"?
oh by the way just remembered something from my noob years.
make sure that your wing's adapter connects to "the internet" not "work"

lol, Already made sure of that. Thanks tho.
I've had the exact same issue with my MDA and originally with my Wing. It works fine now, I'm not sure why.
I just flashed to Open Touch 6.5. Still a no-go.

The wifi is just like a laptop's wifi, it connects to a wireless router and since it's not going through the cell phone towers, it will not charge you.

OMG....I'm getting soooooooooooooo tired of dickin around with this thing. Now it won't connect to any network, secured or not.
I tried importing a certificate from IE on my laptop, because I got an error message on the wing saying the net work needed a personal certificate to identify me. Didn't work.
I tried a hard rest. Didn't work.
I've tried about 56,345 soft resets. Didn't work.
If there were any trees in the state of Kansas, I'd go bang my head on one of them. :

It works fine with my current ROM. (JustMe by... Me. lol)
I'm pretty sure it's not a ROM issue...I just flashed this thing late last night. It started not connecting to anything late afternoon yesterday, while the stock T-Mobile ROM was installed.
The stock ROM never worked properly for me...
Try another ROM.
I'm using a PDA which bundled a WM6.1, I'm trying to connect my wireless which using Cisco LEAP but failed, I can do that using my previous WM5, anyone tried that successfully? Any comments are appreciated.
Anyone encountered the same problem?
many routers require firmware updates once in awhile to work with newer handheld wifi devices
but it's easy to update them and the manufactors got firmware updates one can dl
otherwise one can often fix issue just by restarting the router as in unpluggin it for 10sec and connect it again
think it's a dhcp issue
I used to have Cisco LEAP as an option with my previous WM5 device (Wizard) and it did work, however we quickly migrated away from LEAP once the WPA standard was adopted and integrated into the WiFi AP's we used (Cisco). I haven't used it for ages, nor have I seem any customers in the last 18-months or so with it still being used on their WiFi infrastructure.
I still have the LEAP option in the 'Wireless LAN' settings on my Kaiser so in theory it should still work, unfortunately I no longer have any WiFi networks I connect to that use LEAP where I could test it....
Implement WPA or WPA2 it's much more secure and you will likely get more support from other users.
